First thing i've been thinking about is the ORKS!!

Gold in the other thread had seven Orks clans, so i was thinking...

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/grimpreviews2.jpg
Snakebitez (Feral Orkz) Grimgor era 1
Freebooterz (vanilla) Grimgor era 2
Goffz (lotsa 'Ard Stuff) Grimgor era 3

I found this while doing some research:
http://forums.relicnews.com/avatars/avatar16844_1.gif

I reckon something like this would be great for the Blood Axez, since they are hated by the other Orks for being too "un-Orky" and adopting human ideas like camoflage and medals.

I think the military cap and the Space Marine eye-piece thing would accentuate this.

I spoke to Grandraem a while back, and he said he might be able to make some more Ork heads for us after he's finished some of his own projects, so aaglo, you are off the hook ;)

I realize that this post is pretty ancient, but I was looking through the thread and got a little inspiration from LMR's post here. Not sure if you're interested still in something like this, but if you are, then please post any constructive criticism, but I can't promise alot of work on this, as my mod does come first, but I'll work on this when I get a chance if you still want it. I am going to look for a futuristic eyepiece when I get a chance, as that would really make this LH, but here's without the eyepiece for now.

Just for my information, is this guy called Nazdreg?

Jan 28, 2009, 06:03 PM
No problem, Virote.:) I guess that means that you still do need this LH.

I couldn't find an eyepiece prop, so I made one out of primitive shapes. I hope it's ok. Also, please let me know how skin colour is; should gums be more reddish like pic?; should teeth be more yellow?, or anything else, and what background would you be looking for?

Make his other eye more red and evil, like you did with the Warhammer Fantasy LH, and yeah, more yellow teeth would look better.. Some ruins would work best for the background, IMO..

Thanks for doing this, G, its great! :thanx:

Grandraem
Jan 29, 2009, 07:49 AM
Here's another preview. I made the eye red and evil, the teeth more yellow, and did put some ruins in the background. I used urban ruins because I assumed that was the type of ruins you were looking for.

Please let me know anything that you would like altering, and if any of the backgrounds are ok, or if I should alter them (darker, more blurred, etc.).

Also, as mentioned before, any name that I should give him? I looked up LMR's pic and it looks like he's called Nazdreg. Is this correct?

Stormrage
Jan 29, 2009, 09:15 AM
Much better! I like backround #1

Now if you can change the metal and his hat to look more dirty and used I`d say we have a winner :)

Nazdreg is from the Bad Moonz klan, I can`t find any info on Blood Axe characters.. Just name him Blood Axes Warboss :)

Grandraem
Jan 29, 2009, 10:29 AM
Ok, I'll try to make everything look more dirty and re-preview. Might not be till next week, as I've started on my foreign advisor for my mod now. Keep your Poser fingers crossed. What's great with it working on my new computer is that, with all the props on this LH, my old CPU would have probably taken about 5 minutes per frame to render. This guy's rendering at about 1 frame per minute on this CPU, so I can render all 121 frames in about 2 hours once he's done.

Blood Axes Warboss he will be called!

BTW, even though I most likely won't be doing any more LHs for a while, if there is any LHs you badly need, post some pics in this thread, and if I feel like a little break from working on my mod I might give one or two a shot from time to time.:)

Looks great. Personally I prefer the skin colour of the fantasy orc, a more yellowish green, but that's just my opinion.

The older and more powerful the Ork, the darker he gets. :D

Grandraem
Jan 31, 2009, 10:43 AM
Thanks for the positive comments.:)

Here's another preview. The metal on some of the props is acting really stupid, and won't allow for dirtying it up. It does some weird application of any bump or texture maps I apply, so I couldn't alter it. I just opted to darken the reflection map a bit so it doesn't look as shiny. I hope that's ok.

For the cap, rather than try to dirty it up, I tried adding a bump map to make it look more worn/crappy. Let me know what you think.

When everything else is ok'd, I'll preview two versions of him, one with this skin colour, and one with an altered skin colour, and get a vote on which looks best.:)

There might be a small delay in the LH, for good reasons. I'll explain when I get confirmation of something.:mischief:

The bump map on the hat looks better, but I wonder if it will show up when the image's size is reduced to the size of the Civ3 heads and the palette is reduced.

I tried a render with it at 50% size (the same as the civ scale) and it did show up alright. I figured if it doesn't look obvious enough I'll probably just be able to increase the bump effect a bit. It should be fine though.:)

utahjazz7

Good to hear.

Grandraem
Feb 01, 2009, 02:30 PM
Now that I have the ok, I'll explain the slight delay.:)

You've probably noticed that the metal jaw-armour under the ork's jaw is pretty thin. That's because I cut it out of another prop. I didn't have the ability to make a proper one. Well, the kind Mr. Utahjazz7 has offered to create a better, thicker jaw-armour prop. Perhaps I should call it a mouthguard. I just have to figure out how to find the missing file that I was going to send to him (a .3ds file I exported that, like some of my advisor files, is kind of hidden on my computer somewhere).

So the LH will have a slight delay, but should look better when it's done, thanks to utahjazz7.:)

Ok, here's another preview, with utahjazz7's excellent mouthpiece prop. I tried to give it a rough, dirty texture, but I'm not sure if it looks metallic enough now. Please let me know what you think. Also, please let me know if the narrower or wider mouthpiece look better (It's the same height and depth, just slightly reduced width for one of them). If you think the mouthpiece needs to be bigger or smaller/wider or taller/etc. also please comment.

Here's the preview at civscale:

utahjazz7
Feb 02, 2009, 04:42 PM
I really like the way that the texture looks on there. Nice work!

In my non-expert opinion, I think the size of the mouthguard could be reduced a bit. It looks a little too big in comparison to the head. But that's just me ...

Grandraem
Feb 05, 2009, 11:58 AM
Since the left pic seems to be the more popular of the two I went with that one. As promised, here's a colour comparison of the original on the left, and a more yellowy version of the orc on the right. I hope this is the approximate colour you had in mind, mrtn.

Everyone please let me know which looks best.

aaglo,
Nice to see you again.

Finally, in the pic that mouthguard looks attached to his armour and doesn't look that maneouverable. In the animation, should I move the mouthguard along with his chest and have his head move slightly within that, or should I have it move solely along with his head, independant of how the chest moves?

Stormrage
Feb 05, 2009, 12:01 PM
I prefer the dark one.. and the mouthguard should move with his chest, I think..

Virote_Considon
Feb 05, 2009, 12:11 PM
I like the dark one best, too.

aaglo
Feb 06, 2009, 05:17 AM
I like a bit more the yellowier version.

And I think that the mouth guard should move with the head & jaw of the ork. And I also think that the head could be a bit lower & foward compared to the shoulder line of that ork.

In this video (starting at 0:57) you can see an ork warboss with an iron gob :)

Grandraem
Feb 06, 2009, 08:33 AM
Thanks for that video, aaglo. Lowering the head on the shoulders shouldn't really be a problem. The only thing I can do with Poser (that I know of) to accomplish this is bend the body forward, then the head back, and it should look like his head is lower on his body, kind of like he's hunched.

I'll repost a preview sometime this week with it altered.:)

Stormrage
Feb 06, 2009, 09:51 AM
Well.. orks are hunched..

mrtn
Feb 07, 2009, 05:41 AM
I too prefer the lighter skin. :)

Grandraem
Feb 07, 2009, 01:51 PM
Because the skin colour is evenly split, I opted to choose the numerical halfway between the two shades. It's a little more yellow than the first one and a little less yellow than the second one. I hope this is acceptable to everyone.:)

I hunched him up. I also increased the bump on the hat's bump texture to make it a little more obvious. Here's another preview. Please let me know what you think.

With the Blood Axez Warboss done I was looking at the WH40k Mod and noticed that the leader of the Goffs was Ghazghkull Thraka .... so I looked at the Games Workshop website and found a pic of him (in the attachments). I thought that he'd be cool so I messed around with the Blood Axez LH and utahjazz7 was kind enough to modify his mouthguard for me (I asked him to extend a couple of the teeth).

So I came up with this:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=203627&stc=1&d=1234465022

I know the preview is bigger than ingame size, but I worked alot on textures and wanted them to show well, even though I know they won't show as well ingame.

Please let me know what you think.

Time to reveal the reason for the delay...

utahjazz7 has come through again, with an awesome new helmet/eyepiece prop for the leaderhead.

I've textured it and rendered it with two different colours. The first helmet is metallic like the original picture. The second is more of a bronze tone like I've seen his helmet painted in a few pics.

Please let me know which you like best. Thanks.

utahjazz7
Feb 21, 2009, 06:59 PM
The textures look great. I'm glad you were able to use the UV map effectively. I especially like the bolt. It looks like a couple of chunks have been knocked off of it. Good work.

I think I like the metallic finish better than the bronze finish, but it might be a tad too shiny for my tastes.

Virote_Considon
Feb 22, 2009, 06:33 AM
I prefer the one on the left :)

Grandraem
Feb 22, 2009, 08:54 AM
Yeah, I prefer the one on the left myself, but I thought I'd just give a choice.:) I'll probably animate and render it Monday depending on any further debate.

utahjazz7,
I wasn't sure if it was a tad too shiny. I had it more dull but it looked almost like stone rather than metal like that, because of the organic shape of it. To be honest I was worried that you wouldn't be happy with the way I'd textured it if it didn't look metallic enough. I can probably dull it a little bit though and compromise between the two looks.

utahjazz7
Feb 22, 2009, 10:00 AM
Don't worry about making me happy with it. Do whatever seems best to you.

I did go back and look at the original you had posted, though, and I really like the texture that you had given to that helmet. It looks really worn and tarnished.
