View Full Version : Runtime Error when loading a mod
Apollon Mar 20, 2007, 08:22 AM I have seen many people having this problem. They were asking for solutions, but I never saw a satisfying answer. I have the problem myself. Some mods load very nice, some others, though, cause the game to crash with a Runtime Error the very moment you load them. CCCP or Amra would be examples of this, while others, such as the Enhanced Military Advisor, cause no trouble at all.
I thought, maybe, if I open a dedicated thread for that problem, someone with enough knowledge to provide a solution would notice it... please...
You would make many people happy. :)
Paasky Mar 20, 2007, 08:33 AM Some of the mod components might not be done to work independently, and thus cause crashes.
Also, you might have the wrong version of the game, or haven't installed them properly. But without telling us what the error is exactly, there's no way anyone can really help.
Apollon Mar 20, 2007, 08:45 AM Hi Paasky,
Some of the mod components might not be done to work independently, and thus cause crashes.
This possibility is right out because CCCP and Amra are elaborate and widely used compendiums.
Also, you might have the wrong version of the game,
I play Warlords, and I try to make sure to only download Warlords-compatible mods.
or haven't installed them properly.
I'm fairly certain this is not the case.
But without telling us what the error is exactly, there's no way anyone can really help.
Alas, Runtime Errors don't give any information at all. It just says C++ Runtime Error, no further options, no details, no log.
Anyway, I just found out that all the problematic mods have one thing in common: they all have a .dll file. When I remove the .dll the mod loads just fine, though I suspect that removing the .dll merely solves the problem by creating a host of other problems...
My suspicion is that my system lacks certain files or applications that enable it to correctly process C++ or somesuch.
EDIT: I should add that the .dll in question is the CvGameCoreDLL.dll.
Amra Mar 20, 2007, 12:23 PM Apollon,
What version of Warlords are you running? 2.00 (straight out of the box) or has it been patched to 2.08? I know that my modpack will definitely cause the error you are describing if you are trying to run it on a Warlords v2.00 installation.
Check the "About this build" section under "Advanced". I'm not in front of Warlords right now but I think that is where it will tell you what version you are using.
If it says 2.0.0.0 then you will need to update warlords before you can play Amra's Modpack v2.08 or any other mod that says it is for Warlords version 2.08 and has "SDK" changes. The SDK changes are included in the CvGameCoreDLL.dll file that you have mentioned and they will crash the game (with no real explanation) if you try to run it on a different version than what it was based on.
Apollon Mar 20, 2007, 01:28 PM Thank you Amra, that was the solution! :high5:
And now I'm off to enjoy your awesome mod. :)
Great job, and thanks again!
Amra Mar 20, 2007, 01:40 PM Thank you Amra, that was the solution! :high5:

Great job, and thanks again! No problem, glad I could help. Make sure that you get the patch for my modpack (Patch "A") that I posted last night. It fixes a few errors/oversights. Check my forum thread for the link if you don't have it.
SuperSpy Oct 18, 2007, 01:55 AM I'm getting the same problem but this is with the mods/scenarios that came with Warlords. Everything was fine until I patched to the current version of both Civ4 and Warlords. Any advice?
marx&engles Oct 18, 2007, 05:24 PM I'm pretty sure that the changes in a patch can break mods that came with the game too. You should probably check for an updated version of the mod.
