View Full Version : More diff levels

I strongly think that we need one additional diff level. Monarcy level is far to easy and on some civīs emperor is way to hard*. Then again Empreror level is to easy when playing Rome and going for a domination victory.

Monarcy is such a breeze that there is no challenge at all. (when going for domination victories ateleast, dunno UHV)

*For example I tried 5 games (latest build) as china trying to get confuciasm first with no luck. Tried the Animal husbandry - Writing - Math and the Oracle track but both failed all the time. In my mind this completly ruins the game as I cant follow the historical path.

Try playing civs that match your skills...

lol. that is just wait I say! Monarchy is way to easy to be challenging (not talking UHV games now) and Emperor diff is mostly ok but has some historical history flaws. If all the civs are to easy on monarchy the option leads to play on emperor, right? So adressing balancing problems there might be in order, right?

Let me explain, as china for one example, I have no problem getting a domination vic (ok I lie but i can get it most of the times) on the hardest setting, my problem is that on my latest testgames on the latest verions I could´nt get to math first to found chinas religion, This is wrong IMO since I went by the 2 straight forward options to attain math first and should be abel to get it first even on emperor diff (this is always been the case in earlier builds).

On the otherhand playing Rome for a domination vic on emperor isnt really that hard. So a balance here and additional skill levels fould be nice.

But since I figured that some ppl might not care for historical accuracy it could be nice with additional diff levels.

BTW I found a solution for my problem. Since I really wanted to play one more full game as china but could´nt get math first i went and did i big nono in my book, i... cheated... goddammit I never thought It come to this. I used the worldbuilder and gave me the slight edge to make my game a little more historicly accurate. Now my game is fun as hell but I cant shake the feeling of guilt, now im off to the shower to try wash of the shame. ;)

Oh? Could you post that domination win and how you went about it? Victory by Domination is probably the hardest VC in RFC.

With the way I play, India, Egypt, Greece are all pretty easy, but I have problems with China, Persia, Rome, Carthage... I'm no good with the wars... :( I blame lousy combat roles, but I know that it's really my lack of an ability to build a decent army... Anyway, my point is that the difficulty levels aren't as important as what civ you choose... Some civs are MUCH harder than others, and that's not just dependant on your play style... Getting a domination victory with Babylonia would be tough or a space race with Egypt... Just as conquering the entire world as America, with such a short amount of time, would be just as difficult... Play with some different civs and see how is goes. I've found that going after the UHV's, even without trying too hard, really helps... Even if you don't make the UHV's, following the path of history tends to make your game a little easier.

The -50% corruption decrease is really nice and the extra movement makes for a very mobil force. Before my legionaries goes obsolite I have conquerd (in order), Cartage, Greece, Egypt, Spain, France, Germany and Vikings.

At that point Rome is one hell of a economical/tech powerhouse if you built smart and keept cities to a minimum, only keeping "super" cities. I found it very helpfull having at christian holy citiy with curch of nativity for all those extra gold. Last game byzantin had the spot and it helped alot not having to take/keep the crappy citie of jerusalem (in-game wise)

Later Babylon, Arab and Mali fall without real opposition but Russia seems to cause me some big trouble at time to time (damn cossacks).

At this point the games gets booring but a mega war versus the the eastasian powerhouse might spice things up (India, Persia or China)
But then game gets so very very very slow so it hurts to keep playing

BTW sorry for spelling, english aint my first or second language and my brain hurts from recent muaythai lesson...

BTW trying to dominate the world as china and its not looking great... Having build up my factories now im ready to start spawning infantry to overrun the world. This will be one hell of a task cuz im sure Ill be facing tanks, marines and artillery, but with some diplomacy and genius warmaking it might work.

Ok, so you haven't won a domination victory. I'll be damned if someone beats me to it ;). And what do you mean the -50% corruption? Are you talking about courthouses?

Few versions ago I conquered Carthage, Greece, Egypt, France, Spain, Germany, Arabia, Babylon, Turkey, England, Persia and Russia, but it was before science penalties for huge empires so conquering the rest of the world seemed too easy.

New game. Trying to finish a game as Rome on the latest version, earlier I quite the game when I was sure of a win, this was due to the slow turns but Ill try play it trough now.

The science penalty realy hurts now! :(

Mid 17th cent, Cartage, Greece, Egypt, Spain, France, Germany, England and Vikings are out +Arab that is my vassale = early warning system for suprise attackning civs from the east. Mali, Persia is out by the AI.

Next move might be tricky, I really would like to knock out the ruskies but those cossacks and the damage penalty scare me. My current invasion army concist of well promoted ca 10-15 Grenadiers (3 Generals attatchments), ca 10 Cannons (1 General attatchment) and some new and few cavalry. Since I lack riflemens the cossacks could hurt real bad.

For some tips on how to manage the tech penalty, check out my thread on the topic (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=209801). Basically, you need to raze every city in Europe and start from the ground up. 12 cities can claim the land held by the Greeks, Romans, French, English, Vikings, Spanish and most of Germany.
