Okay, so the UW thing didn't go that well, so instead how about this:
We make a modcomp that uses all the building art we can find, to diversify the experience of playing each civ. I thought this would be easier than units since buildings aren't coded in python (to my knowledge). I've got a list so far, wonders in bold, (all of these proposals have graphics):

England:
Amphitheatre -> Jousting Arena (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=4384)
??? -> Houses of Parliament (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2442)

America:
??? -> Casino (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3860)
?Bank -> Wild West Bank (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2522)? (Could look a bit silly in the modern era)
Palace -> The White House (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=966)
??? -> Washington Monument (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=4275)

Germany:
Christian Temple -> Marktkirche (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3725)
Palace -> Reichstag (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2880)
??? -> Volkshalle (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3041)

Greece:
Walls -> Fortress (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2927)

Aztec:
??? -> Aztec Temple (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2690)

Egypt:
Stonehenge -> Sphinx (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=967)

China:
Palace -> Asian Palace (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3660)

Inca:
??? -> Incan Temple (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=4390)

Please, submit ideas, or artwork you've found in other mods, or things that the ones listed there with no building to replace (??? -> building) could replace. Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you can suggest different attributes that the buildings can have, but I don't know how to XML them, so I'll need help on those ;)

I'm not too sure about this as a whole, but it would be great to have unique palaces.

??? -> Houses of Parliament

Palace might be good.

Egypt:
Stonehenge -> Sphinx

You'd be more likely to find a Babylonian sphinx than a Babylonian Stonehenge. ;)

love the idea but i don't see it happening, same reason as UWWs. too much work, and game balancing.

I can see this happening for the national wonders, but not for every single building in the game. There is one other option: we can break it down by culture, not individual civs. That would cut down on the art required tremendously.

Too much work in my opinion. Just the National Wonders generics names and the different art for cities houses is good imo...

That's what I was implying. :groucho:

I'm not suggesting that we replace every building in the game, just include all the art available as and when it is available. The buildings needn't even have different effects, if you think that would require too much balancing, just purely cosmetic ones to stop oddities like English amphitheatres, Egyptian stonehenges etc.

I believe Rhye made the National Wonders' names generic for a reason. ;)

Anyway, as a fan of history, I think making each building unique isn't a good thing - small details affect the larger way of things. For example, if the American government had a thing for Gothic architecture or Renaissance Romanesque (more likely than Gothic) instead of Masonic Temple-ish (more so if the founding fathers of America weren't Freemasons), then the Whitehouse just wouldn't be the Whitehouse.

It's not each building.

You talk about small details and little changes and yet you play a game where you follow a designated tech tree and every game someone builds the Internet, or Mount Rushmore? ;)

Yes, you have a point there. Sigh.

Is there a daring modder out there who will make a super-large tech-tree that encompasses all possible moves of mankind? Like, say, there would have been a big difference in FIRE. FIRE could split into many branches, like FIRE-COOKING, FIRE-WEAPONS, FIRE-RELIGION, etcetera - each branch having a different set of possibilities. It would be way cool. :)

I mean, if you pick FIRE-RELIGION, there would be many different kinds of FIRE-RELIGION. There's one that forbids the cooking of animals, so no FIRE-COOKING until you hit certain technologies, like PREHISTORIC RADICAL THINKERS. Depending on the Tech choices you make, it could either end up like the mundane world, or a world where INDUSTRIAL STEEL came about from either MASONRY or VOLCANIC ERUPTION.

I think we would need a super-computer roughly the size of Sweden to run that mod.:lol:

Nice idea though. Maybe in CivX?

When the supercomputers of today are the size of a single key on a keyboard.

By the way, the standard palace looks Chinese to me. (Asian is such a broad term - for example: the Arabs are Asians, geographically speaking).

Yeah, I know that, but I was just paraphrasing the original name.

Oh, I'd think you do, and it does get your message through. Anyway, the Asian Style Palace looks funny because of the tower thing, IMHO. But then it looks kinda like the Spiral Minaret of Western Asia, so the name is fitting.

OK, so instead of an Asian palace, maybe we could use one of the castles to make a European palace?

For the middle ages, that'll be fine, I guess. But a palace is a luxury-home (should look something like Versailles) while a castle is a fortress-home (like the Citadels of Spain - those things totally rock art-wise!).

Hmmm, what about this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2864)for modern?

Someone's done a mod for this already :p

It just needs to be merged.

I am actually in the process of trying to merge these.

Great minds think alike, I s'pose.

OR RATHER (EDIT), many people want ethnic divisions as well.
