View Full Version : Dropship - 3/24/2007
NavyDawg Mar 24, 2007, 03:15 PM This is a future era Dropship from Aliens. Missile bombing animation also included. Not much to say, other than it rendered fast and I like how it turned out.:)

d.highland Mar 24, 2007, 03:16 PM Hey, I remember that ship!
That is very detailed, what else is next on your list :p
Yoda Power Mar 24, 2007, 03:33 PM Nice animation :)
How is it supposed to work? Like the Helicopter, or just as a normal unit?
NavyDawg Mar 24, 2007, 03:38 PM Yoda, the ini is set up as an air unit right now (airdrop and bomb capable). This should work as a naval/land unit as well if anyone wants to use it as that.
@ D, I need to make another robot and then I'll probably release a beta version of my mod. It will include a few unreleased units as well as lots of new pcx's.
Keroro Mar 24, 2007, 04:11 PM Very nice, but I seem to remember seeing it somewhere else (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=28539)...

Yes, but I needed a version without the APC rolling out. Use whichever you prefer...
Bluemofia Mar 24, 2007, 05:38 PM Sweet. Nicely textured!
justingreenwell Mar 24, 2007, 06:33 PM Great unit!!
LizardmenRule! Mar 24, 2007, 08:16 PM Looks great! Are they missile pods that pop out up the top?
and have you ever thought about making some WH40K units? ;)

The wings do have missiles stored in the ends, but I didn't use any in the attack.
I took a look at the WH 40K subforum. I think it's interesting, but I know very little about WH storylines, and unit styles (mostly from Aaglo's and Muffin's units here). I guess I've developed my own style, and I don't know how well it fits in with WH. I might be open to helping out though (just promise me you won't assign ranks in the WH40K group). I am still working hard on my own project, so I don't want to promise much just yet.
I do have a few WH props for humans as well as a few spaceship/aircraft props. Let me know if you guys need anything specific, and I'll consider it.
COAtlantis1745 Mar 24, 2007, 10:38 PM Very nice indeed!
Now..could we persuade you to generate a Pelican Dropship from Halo? I am very surprised that a Halo Mod has not been put into action.
Wyrmshadow Mar 24, 2007, 11:09 PM I like it, although some of the movements seem really quick.
Vuldacon Mar 25, 2007, 12:41 AM Farout Ship NavyDawg...that is one Great pilot flying it but he may get into trouble with his superiors flying a Dropship like that :D :goodjob:
odintheking Mar 25, 2007, 11:39 AM Really nice, man! Care to explain how you make your explosions?
W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 25, 2007, 08:23 PM What can I say - Thank you for this new version of one of the coolest units ever!!!

http://aliens.humlak.cz/aliens/Aliens_papirove_modely/papercraft/drop.gif
Notes: A variation of the UD-4 dropship, this large cargo-carrying vessel is in use by the USCM. The current model used is the UD-4L "Cheyenne" dropship. The UD-4L has VTOL capability, as well as play a closecombat gunship role. It has a 103.6 cubic meter paylod bay, and has a tri-skid undercarriage landing assembly. The principle framework is made from superlplastic-formed diffusion-bonded metal matrix composites (MMC). The payload bay is 9.5m long by 4.5m wide by 2.4m high, with a 3.92m wide loading ramp which extends from the back of the bay. The loading ramp can easily accomodate a M577 APC (with turret stowed). The spacious pressurized cockpit features two crew positions, one for the pilot, the other for the weapons officer. Both crew sit in ejection seats, certified for use at any altitude below 10,000 meters and speeds below Mach 1. The main fuselage of the UD-4L also features mounting points for the main weapons pods and the secondary weapons bay. The main weapons pods are attached to cross-folded pylons mounted just in front of the ramrocket intake. The UD-4L runs off of two types of powerplants. The main engines are a pair of TF-900 turbines. High-speed high-altitude flight is andled by the other set of engines, which are aft-mounted TF-220/A-14 ramrockets. Top speed of the ramrockets is upward of Mach 12.".

NavyDawg Mar 25, 2007, 08:56 PM Wow, thanks for all the background info, WINTER. Where did all of the color schemes and squadrons come from?
Weasel Op Mar 25, 2007, 08:57 PM Very nice, but I seem to remember seeing it somewhere else (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=28539)...
My first thought when I opened this thread: He's one-upped Kinboat. The end is near.
:goodjob:
NavyDawg Mar 25, 2007, 09:06 PM Keep in mind, though, that Kinboat made his in 2002. If he made a new one now, I'm sure it would look a million times better than mine, and I'd be the first to use it.

The animations are better than Kinboat's, it's more dynamic. :goodjob: In fact, like you say, it's five years better than Kinboat's.
BTW, perhaps Ares could perform some colour conversions of this unit so that those alternate schemes are not wasted. :mischief:
WilliamOfOrange Mar 26, 2007, 08:28 PM Very sweet. Anyone interested in doing an Aliens scenario? There is an xenomorph unit out there too. Interesting.
If only there were a way to increase the enslavement ability up to 100% probability
