Are you guys aware of the Middle Earth scenario for Civ 2? It was a great scenario and would be a good source of ideas.

No, I never played Civ2... Do you have a link to the development thread or something like this?

No I don't and I was never aware of one. I'll try and track down the file though...

I think you guys will find it useful as it dealt with the same time frame I believe you are contemplating.

I think I found it. It is called Dagor Bragollach and you can download it here: http://spanish.apolyton.net/civ2/bestonet/scenfant.html

I will play it tonight and confirm this is the scenario I was talking about.

Elda, when are you sending me the files with your update?

Last weekend I added some buildings and corrected the new techs, but couldn't send the files. I'm correcting some pedia entries and other texts, will also change a bit the units and send it to you.

It may still be worth a download to read through the events file. Hurin did a great drop putting the events of the books into the scenario.

I'll download it tomorrow and take a look.

If that's the Civ2 mod I'm thinking of, I'd just like to say that it is awesome. I liked that mod more than I liked the actual game (unmodded civ2).
Actually, I kind of assumed that this Civ3 mod was inspired by the Civ2 mod. You really should try to get a copy of Civ2 so that you can see this mod.

--edit--
I suspect that my imagination started taking over from my memory a bit while I was writing this... I got a bit carried away. But it really was a good mod.

I just stumbled across this subforum, and I wonder if anybody has seen my Civ 2 Tolkien modpack (http://www.civfanatics.net/downloads/civ2/modpacks/Tolkien_Modpack_v2.zip). I hope that's what you're refering to as preferable to the unmodded game, Karadoc!
I'd like to think my art &/or ideas could be of some use in this new endeavour.

Well, these are good (thought the game is pretty old), but how exactly could we use those (or any art other than concept art), in a civ 4 mod?

As buttons...

I'd like to think my old unit icons could serve as a starting point for designing the 3-D Civ 4 versions. Buttons would be nice though.
I believe that some appropriate fantasy city graphics are already available.

I'm aware this is a bit of thread bumping, but I thought it necessary.

Have any of you seen this? (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=22142)
Haven't tried it yet, but will as soon as I can.

Perhaps we could try to recycle some graphics, if doable.

That'd be great though, would save us a bunch of work. Thanks T_F

Actually, that mod uses almost normal Civ3 graphics, it just uses Tolkien civs and UUs.

If you guys haven't played 'The lord of the rings' scenario for civ2 fantastic worlds by Harlan Thompson, you're really missing a trick.

Had my old computer not been nicked I'd point you to the "improvement" I made to his wonderful scenario that was available online for a while.

Really would love to do that for Civ4, probably possible.
