Aspyr has hit a new low for me. Warlords B is hanging on launch half the time. The dock icon bounces and then--nothing. Activity Monitor shows that Civ 4 is running. I can't force quit it. I have to restart the machine.

I'd have never bought Civ 4 for the Mac if I had any idea the quality would be so low.

How come you can't force quit it? Force quit sometimes needs a couple of shots, but it always works eventually for me, though I've never had to use it on Civ4 or Warlords.

Oh, believe me I've tried. It's a single thread using a very small memory footprint. It's totally non-responsive. There's no pip on the dock to indicate that it's running, either.

When I say I have to restart, I mean I have to force the G5 to power down.

Weird! When testing and debugging the HoF mods I am relaunching multiple times and have never seen it hang.

I have my checkbox set to always show the startup dialog during launch. Maybe that stops mine from ever doing this.

Of course, the other factor is that I'm running the Intel code. My vague impression is that the PPC code seems to give rise to more complaints around here than the Intel code.

I've been using the startup dialog. I've never seen anything quite like this. The app doesn't show up in the Finder's force quit dialog box, though you can right click on the (apparently inactive) dock icon and select force quit. Not that doing that accomplishes anything. :)

I'll try Civ C vanilla tonight and see if it behaves the same way.

Does anyone know where I can get the earlier patches?

You can force quit a process from the Activity Monitor window. I assumed that was what you were trying to do, since that is where you can see it running.

Other posters have found earlier version patches and posted links around here. I usually keep everything I download, so PM me if you need a specific one and can't find it anywhere else, if you feel it is a legitimate file to share.

I've tried from AM, as well as tried killing the pid in a terminal window.
