OK, sit down and prepare youself for a nice little rant.;) We all have our moments of bad temper, don't we?

The AI in Vanilla does not know how to handle Barbarian cities properly. They are afraid of their precious workers being killed by these terrible Barabarian units, but it does not occur to them to wage WAR against some properly defended Barbarian cities - for, as I have read somewhere, the AI is programmed not to treat Barbarians as aggressively as another Civ they are at war with.

Look at South Africa in Vanilla. When English/British settle it, they do not build ANY terrain improvements there. I do not know, whether they do not build workers at all, or the workers they build get killed by Barbs from Zimbabwe and Mombasa, but I sometimes have seen no terrain inprovements in South Africa in the 1900's.

In one of my games, I decided to try an experiment. I purchased World Map from Victoria. Three cities in South Africa, no terrain improvements. I was playing Spain, so I with a bunch of Conquistadors and one Cannon took Zimbabwe and gifted it to Vicky. A short time afterwards, I again purchased Vicky's World Map and I saw some improvements there! Werid: :crazyeye:

THE ENGLISH IMPERIALIST AGGRESSION IN SOUTH AFRICA:

Victoria: Now, Mr. Rhodes, Governor of South Africa, any reports on the situation in your region?

Rhodes: Everything is fine, my Queen. However, we have a small nuisanse. These damned Zulus keep killing our workers. So we can't build any roads, mines, etc. We are thinking to stop sendind our population in the open as Workers.

Victoria: But this is terrible! We have no Gold and Sugar connected! We must protect these workers!

Rhodes: Our militiary in South Africa is guarding our cities - it is much more important them guarding some Workers.

Victoria: Then conquer these Zulus! Let them feel the wrath of our mighty Empire!

Rhodes: (peacefully) My dear Queen, why we should conquer them? They are only some barbarians, not a true civilization. They hardly deserve our attention. Besides, our militiary in this region is guarding our cities, as I have already told you. And sending troops in South Africa from England - why should we bother?

Victoria: Really. Never mind Gold, Gems and Sugar, these Zulu Skirmishers are not worthy of our Redcoats paying them a visit. Yes, you are quite right.

This does not sound like an imperialist aggression, does it? It is kinda irritating.

RANT ENDED :) .

As Vanilla player for many time until last week, I just have to agree you! And haven't you noticed that huge barbarian empire that usually covers all the Eastern mediterranean? Or have you seen China collapsing and staying barbarian until late 1900, when Japanese start thinking: hey! let's conquer all that empty lands protected by archers and axeman with our riflemen? And they just settle on puny islands in Indonesia? The situation will be like this:

HIROHITO: Admiral, what are our plans? What new lands will be added to our mighty empire?
ADMIRAL YAMAMOTO: we have discovered another new island on the south, oh, mighty Son of the Heavens.
HIROHITO: and what does have it? Gold? Silver? Oil? We need more oil!
ADMIRAL YAMAMOTO: humm... only small fishes, my lord.
HIROHITO: fishes? We already capture millions of tons of fishes and whales, and with that stupid American embargo, we don't have where to sell them. Forget the fishes. What about invading Manchuria? I heard there's lot of oil there. We need oil, not fishes. Unless you know some way to operate our armada with fishes.
ADMIRAL YAMAMOTO: True, mighty lord and Son of the Stars, the Moon, the Sun, and the Seas. We need oil, and Manchuria is filled with it, but...
HIROHITO: But.. what?
ADMIRAL YAMAMOTO: There are some tribal warriors out there. It will be unfair to combat with our armada, our planes and cannons against their bows and sharp stones.
HIROHITO: Oh! I like those Chinese traditional bowmen! It reminds me when I was a kid, and my daddy...erm... the former Emperor and Son of the Heavens gave me one. It was an original Chinese craft. They only requested some sheeps for it. OK, Forget about Manchuria. Where do you say that island is?

Yeah. So I just looked in the Python files :scan: and removed that nasty Zimbabwe. Now I consider adding Jakarta, but I do not know the coordinates of Jakarta in the map...:(
