View Full Version : News: SGOTM 3 - Results and Congratulations

OK. Own up! There was clearly a conspiracy! How else did we end up with 11 out of 22 teams getting awards? That's 50% !

In this game, the diplomats were dominant overall, winning all the laurels. The two Russian teams again showed how it should be done. CFR-V and CFR-W took the Gold Laurels with unmatched finish dates in both the Vanilla and Warlords divisions.

[Yeees, I know you all pretended to be Russians in this game, but the winners really were players from Russia :) ]

In the Vanilla division, the Silver Laurels were won by Murky Waters, beating a TWO-WAY TIE between Gypsy Kings and Memphis Blues for Bronze.

The Warlords competition produced a THREE-WAY TIE for the Silver Laurels between Short Straw, Peanut and Team One, with Fistful of Dynamite coming up behind for Bronze.

Chokonuts and Fifth Element were the gallant Wooden Spooners this time around, and they were among the six teams who saw spaceships take off, though not always from their own launch pads. There were three non-finishers.

I was seriously tempted to award one medal of each colour in each division, using score as a tie-breaker - particularly when I saw the cost of minting so many awards for this game :p However, I decided that finish date is far more important than score in SGOTMs, so it would be cruel to do that.

So, the next two posts show the Roll of Honour for the two divisions of this game. You can see many more details on the Results page ( http://gotm.civfanatics.net/submit/civ4sgotm_submission_list.php?game=50003&displayteams=displayteams), and of course you are free to visit all the team threads to see how it was done.

Please post your congratulations here for all who took part in this closely contested game and entertained us so well, and give your special plaudits to the teams listed in the next two posts.

@AlanH: the results and congratulations thread is closed ... is that intentional? :crazyeye:

Good thing you did not invoke a tiebreaker, as then you would have had to answer to ... yourself!

From the reference thread:

"The Gold, Silver and Bronze Laurels are awarded to the members of the three teams that abide by the variant rules and achieve the prescribed victory condition in the fewest turns. In the event of a tie then the award will go to the members of all the teams involved in the tie."

And at least one of the "too many" awards you complain about is due to your own generosity ... normally a tie for silver would eliminate the awarding of a bronze. But in this case it is fitting for Fistful to have a bronze, as their date is earlier than the Vanilla silver date, which should get some recognition in this split competition. All in all, every team that won before 1800 got recognition, which I think is appropriate! :goodjob:

Now, how about adding a laurels page to the Civ 4 Pantheon of Heroes?

dV

PS if you open the R&C thread, feel free to move this there, where it belongs. ;)

I wondered why there was so little response :)

:( I'm starting to get the sinking feeling that the announcement is not an April Fool although I hope I'm wrong.

:( I'm starting to get the sinking feeling that the announcement is not an April Fool although I hope I'm wrong. Anyone remember "New Coke"? Brought out to replace original Coke to sweeten it up more like Pepsi. Backlash -> Coke Classic comes back with New Coke, and now New Coke is extinct.

Maybe this will end with a big "never mind" (excuse the off-topic).

congrats to everyone! Especially the CFR teams!

I just hope Alanh is part of the April Fools joke...I don't want to see Apolyton and CFC merge...I went to Apolyton first...it is DEAD over there in terms of GOTM type stuff! I don't want that to happen over here OR for it to become pay to play

And back to the original question ... how about a page for the laurels in the pantheon of heroes? (I can't believe you dreamed up this whole charade just to dodge my question! :nono:  )

It is possible that some of us are a bit drowsy. I'm not at all sure that dV is the entire cause though. It is proving to be much more difficult than assumed, to lose gracefully to the skinny one.;)

Inspecting the page, a few folks have had quite the propensity for wood.

And then there are the gold and wood combinations? :crazyeye:

I would also like to thank NeverMind :king: for his incredible work on SDK and XML which made our teams able to forecast more efficiently the diplomatic effects of our moves, formulate our strategies - and win. He is always a honorary member of any CFR team!
