[UPDATE: 26 May 2008] New version of Warlords HoF Mod released for version 2.13. HOF-Mac-2.13.001 (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/HOF-Mac-2.13.001.zip). This version will be REQUIRED for WOTM 18, opening 27 May 2008.

[UPDATE: 27 October 2007] New version of Civ4 HoF Mod released for version 1.74. HOF-Mac-1.74.002 (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/HOF-Mac-1.74.002.zip). This version will be REQUIRED for GOTM 24, opening 1 November 2007.

We have released new versions of the HoF Mod for Mac. They include lots of features and bug fixes ported across from the latest Windows versions of the mod.

The new versions will be required if you wish to play all future GOTM/WOTM/SGOTM competition games, including WOTM 18. NOTE: They will still not permit you to submit Hall of Fame entries.

Mod Feature Set
The mods provide a suite of enhancements, in the same way as the Windows HoF Mod, with three extra Options screens to allow you to enable, disable and configure them. They include most of the usability features of the Windows HoF Mod, omitting a few which are HoF-specific and/or dependent on the Windows DLL.

Included:
Autolog
CIV4lerts
Specialist Stacker (vanilla only, as Warlords has stacked specialists as standard)
Exotic Foreign Adviser
Modified Special Domestic Adviser
NEW Enhanced Unit Icons
Clock Turn Text
Reminders
Flashing End-of-Turn Text

Excluded:
HoF MapFinder (irrelevant)
HOF Settings options and warnings (irrrelevant)
Main screen options (need the DLL)
Map rescaling (needs the DLL)
Lots of bugs

Vanilla Version - HOF-Mac-1.74.002

Download it HERE (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/HOF-Mac-1.74.002.zip)

Installation
The mod is a simple ZIP file. Expand it (or let Safari expand it) to produce a folder, and put this folder in the /Civilization IV/Mods/ folder. This Mods folder is in the same directory as your Civilization IV application.

Loading
You have two options to load the mod:

1. Launch Civ4, click Advanced, click Load A Mod, select 'HOF-Mac-1.74.002'. Civ4 will tell you it has to restart to load the mod. Let it do so and then start a game in the usual way.

2. Set it as your default mod by editing your ~/Documents/Civilization IV/CivilizationIV.ini file in TextEdit.
Find the comment line:
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none

Change the line below it from:
Mod=0

to:
Mod=HOF-Mac-1.74.002

Save the edited file. Civ4 will then load the mod at startup, avoiding the need for the double start.

Warlords Version - HOF-Mac-2.13.001

Download it HERE (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/HOF-Mac-2.13.001.zip)

Installation
The mod is a simple ZIP file. Expand it (or let Safari expand it) to produce a folder, and put this folder in the /Civilization IV/Warlords/Mods/ folder. This Mods folder is in the same directory as your Civilization IV Warlords application.

Loading
You have two options to load the mod:

1. Launch Warlords, click Advanced, click Load A Mod, select 'HOF-Mac-2.13.001'. Warlords will tell you it has to restart to load the mod. Let it do so and then start a game in the usual way.

2. Set it as your default mod by editing your ~/Documents/Civilization IV Warlords/CivilizationIV.ini file in TextEdit.
Find the comment line:
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none

Change the line below it from:
Mod=0

to:
Mod=HOF-Mac-2.13.001

Save the edited file. Civ4 will then load the mod at startup, avoiding the need for the double start.

Configuration for both versions
When the mod is loaded, you can configure it. Click Advanced at the first menu, and Options to open the Options screen before you start a game. Or select Options in the in-game menu to change its configuration. It initially has all the enhancements disabled. Use the checkboxes on the HOF1 to HOF3 tabs to try out the extra goodies. Please check out the details and the links in the Credits section on this HoF site page (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php) for details of what the various enhancements do.

Please let me know if you have any issues with these mods. Remember that they are REQUIRED if you want to play the GOTM/WOTM/SGOTM competition games.

Hey Alan... looks really cool...

A few questions...

- If you load the mod in the /Civ4 game directory, does the game still load what's in CustomAssets in ~/Documents?
- At first, I placed the mod in the ~/Documents/Civ directory and couldn't call up Civlopedia or Options... moved it to where you said it needs to be... was able to get them from the main screen but can't call up from in-game... that or any of the advisors?

Thanks!

What are you trying to load from CustomAssets? I think you can use graphics like BlueMarble with the HoF Mod, but nothing that changes the game logic.

I had

BlueMarble
EDU
XML that adds a 3rd trait to all leaders...

EDU and the XML mods will not load when you have a mod loaded from Mods.

Thanks Alan! I've installed the new version. Hopefully will have time to test it out with GOTM 17.

Is any one else having trouble connecting to the HOF site? I've tried on multiple computers at different locations and it times out. No firewall or proxy settings enabled.

I've been thinking about trying to build a MapFinder program for the Mac
version of Civ, but I'm not sure if it is feasible. Does anyone know if the
HOF MapFinder feature relies on the DLL?

AlanH
Aug 20, 2007, 05:42 PM
Hello, welcome :wavey:

Yes, the HOF MapFinder does rely on a DLL. However, that's not to say that a MapFinder without a DLL is impossible - I have no idea whether it could be done using Python.

When I try to use this HOF mod on the Mac version of Warlords, it doesn't seem to work. For either the saved GOTM or starting a new game while the mod is loaded, I get no interface, no options menu, etc. I suspect that I am missing match 2.13, but I can't seem to find it to download. Can somebody point me to this patch?

AlanH
Sep 16, 2007, 04:37 PM
Hello, welcome :wavey:

Version 2.13 of Warlords is not yet available for the Mac. You should be able to use the Warlords version of the HoF Mod with version 2.08.

If you are seeing no interface then the mod is not loading. I suggest you enable Python error logging in the ~/Documents/Civilization IV Warlords/CivilizationIV.ini file by changing LoggingEnabled from 0 to 1. Then start up a game, and post the ~/Documents/Civilization IV Warlords/Logs/PythonErr.log text file contents here.

It looks as though you may have put the mod in the wrong /Mods/ directory, since the game can't find the Settings file.

The installation instructions in the first post state that it must go in " .... the /Civilization IV/Warlords/Mods/ folder. This Mods folder is in the same directory as your Civilization IV Warlords application."

Note that you need to find the /Mods/ folder in the same directory as your Warlords application, NOT the one where the alias to Warlords lives.

Yea, that would help.
It's working now.

Thanks the previous response. I did have the HOF mod in the wrong folder, and moving it fixed the problem.

Now, when trying to load the save game for the GOTM, I get this message:
"The save folder you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not changed." Clicking OK closes Civ. The message implies that I changed something, but I don't think I have -- I'm new to mods & stuff. How do I find out what changed or what the problem is?

(When loading the save file, I get the "save file requires mod" message, it loads OK, and them gives me the message above. I tried loading the HOF mod separately, and playing a couple of turns in a new game, and that worked fine. It's only the GOTM save file that doesn't load.)

The error means the game has added up the check sums for your software installation, and one or more of them isn't the same as the check sums that were calculated on my Mac, when the save was created.

I haven't knowingly changed anything in my Warlords set-up for some time, and the WOTM 10 and 11 start files I created were loaded and played OK by at least one independent Mac player. Since I can still load up the WOTM 10 start file without error, this confirms that my installation has not changed since then.

As we haven't had this issue before, I don't have a utility for comparing your Assets folders against mine, so I can't offer any quick solution. I'm afraid the usual advice in this situation is "reinstall"! However, please confirm the following first:

1. Are you playing version 2.08, not the unpatched version 2.00 from the original CD ?

2. Are you sure you haven't changed anything in /Applications/Civilization IV/Assets/ or in /Applications/Civilization IV/Warlords/Assets/ or their sub-folders ?

3. Do you have any other mods installed ?

I have updated he first post in this thread with a link to the new HOF-Mac-1.74.002 (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/HOF-Mac-1.74.002.zip) version of the HoF Mod. If you plan to play GOTM 24 please ensure that you have a copy of Civ4 patched to version 1.74 and that you install this version of the HoF Mod.

As always, please let me know if you have any problems with it.

I started using it last night. I love it! So far so good, but I didn't play that far into a game... now if only I could play with 24 civs instead of just 18.

Problem using HOF with warlords 2.08 and I can't access the options… nor can I see the HUD. All i see is map…

NVM I put the mod in the wrong place (I put it in documents warlords mod folder rather than the applications warlords mod folder…)

Alan, I was hoping you might have an answer for me. I'm playing in SGOTM7, and I can't locate the autolog. The only autolog.txt file is located in user/documents/civilizationIV/autolog/autolog.txt. However, that file hasn't been modified since last October. I used spotlight to look for sgotm.txt, and iWarbadly.txt, with no success.

Also, I thought that this mod incorporated some user-friendly enhancements, like a better f1 screen, more event notifications, etc. I'm not getting any of that stuff.

Any thoughts?

pg, make sure you've got it toggled through the menu. When I was beginning the sgotm, I noticed nothing was activated in the HoF mod.

I have produced HOF-Mac-2.13.001, and it is linked in the first post of this thread. This version of the mod will be required if you wish to play WOTM 18, which starts in about 24 hours and also requires version 2.13 of Warlords.

Please let me know if you have any problems with this new version.
