View Full Version : lengthy pauses during auto-play, expected?
tgs Mar 31, 2007, 08:01 PM Hi, just installed the mod for vanilla civ 4. Latest patch 1.61. Otherwise the install is clean and untouched... aside from a handful of games I played on the medieval scenario that comes with.
I'm started my first game as the Arabians and sat down to wait out the auto-play. With 104 turns to go things pause.. the game had been moving along quite rapidly I doubt I waited a minute to this point. I wait 5ish minutes and nothing is happening. Busy cursor is still spinning I can browse all the sub-menus. Though I touched nothing while it auto-played.
Tried again and the same thing happens with 113 turns to go. Tried again as the Americans and this happens with 260-240 turns to go.. I forget exactly.
Is this expected behavior? I was moving along at a turn per second so this seems unusual. My system is a Pentium 4 3.0ghz w/ 2gig of ram, an ATI 9800xt 512 mb video card, and running on win XP home.
Im also curious if anyone has modded the civ switch feature? I think it would be wonderful to jump civs as often as you like.
Lone Wolf Mar 31, 2007, 10:24 PM Try to download the previous version... there were similiar complaints about the last one. I 'll load the latest version myself someday and report, will I "meet" that nasty problem too...
dl123654 Apr 01, 2007, 02:24 PM I had that for the v195 also, v193 works fine though
The pause happens at turn 50, when the Greeks start. I entered the editor after waiting a few minutes and Greece still didn't start up yet.
Rhye Apr 01, 2007, 07:29 PM If that is true, I need a save, possibly of the turn before
tgs Apr 02, 2007, 07:12 PM Ok, here is a saved game made after things paused on turn 43 as the Arabians.
Where might I find previous versions?
Rhye Apr 02, 2007, 07:56 PM got it, I'll take a look as soon as i can.
the old download is currently unavailable
dl123654 Apr 02, 2007, 10:18 PM I got one too as Cyrus. Make a save at turn 43 at the pause and turn 35 before the pause, both v195.

Hope these help.
Rhye Apr 03, 2007, 03:57 AM Replace StoredData.py with the file inside the archive.
Then restart the game and tell me if it happens again
dl123654 Apr 03, 2007, 04:26 AM Your fix created a few problem. When I start a new game now I am defeated and lose.
Auto save from the beginning (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/53396/AutoSave_Initial_Stone_Age_Turn_0.Civ4SavedGame)

Well, but the AutoSave doesn't pause... problem solved
Rhye Apr 03, 2007, 08:51 AM looks like i forgot a comma
dl123654 Apr 03, 2007, 02:28 PM Still no good. Paused at Turn 47 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/53396/Cyrus_Stone_Age_Turn_47.Civ4SavedGame).
Here is Turn 33 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/53396/Cyrus_Stone_Age_Turn_33.Civ4SavedGame).

Are you running any modpacks or modcomps? If so, you need to remove them for RFC to run properly. It sounds like you're having a consistent issue with the Greece spawn, which happens when the mod's files are altered.

With the exception of applying Rhye's fix I have not touched these files or installed anything above these. The only added component I have is the Blue Marble terrain. I have also tried a fresh download and install of v195 to no prevail.
Whitefire Apr 03, 2007, 10:57 PM Try it without Blue Marble. I know it sounds silly, but any change could prevent the python from executing properly.
dl123654 Apr 04, 2007, 05:18 AM No Blue Marble now, same pause around when Greece enters.
Edungeon Apr 04, 2007, 05:30 AM Do you have any file in the CustomAssets folder? =p
. . .
dl123654 Apr 04, 2007, 06:35 AM A bunch of empty folders
dc82 Apr 04, 2007, 10:33 AM I don't know if this is connected but playing as China since the beginning, I'll get an indefinite pause (the cursor keeps rotating but nothing happens, can't switch out or Ctrl-Alt-Delete) right after the Carth's appear.
Whitefire Apr 04, 2007, 10:47 AM I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.
Again, the "bug" you are reporting is usually because you have custom assets of some sort. I would suggest uninstalling Civ4, reinstalling, and only adding the RFC196 mod. It should run fine.
Lone Wolf Apr 04, 2007, 11:47 AM I wonder, will this bug show up in the previous version of the mod for you?

v193 worked fine. Unfortanally its gone.

Where is this v196?

193 was for Vanilla, so you should download that file.
Rhye Apr 04, 2007, 07:46 PM it's a bug indeed. I'm trying to fix it
Rhye Apr 04, 2007, 08:01 PM http://rhye.civfanatics.net/civ4/files/DLL195B.rar
use this file and tell me if it worked
dl123654 Apr 04, 2007, 11:12 PM It worked :goodjob:
Worked with Persia at least. The only strange thing was I had contact with China when I started with no sight of a chinese unit (opened the worldbuilder to make sure).
Thank you for all your help everyone, especially you Rhye
sdLeo Apr 06, 2007, 02:01 AM v193 worked fine. Unfortanally its gone.
I've kept most of the old versions, just in case. I assume I'm not the only one?
I could upload some if somebody wants one of them

This happened to me exactly like this, but playing with Egyptians. With Greece, about turn 30-40 of auto-play, it pauses. I didn't reported until now because I'm working on a modcomp and I thought it was my fault. But after re-installing everything it happened again. No save, though.

bigk89m Apr 07, 2007, 09:43 PM rhye i have a question, im having the same problem and i want to try your solution.I dl'ed that file u posted, but what do i do with that? Thanks
Rhye Apr 08, 2007, 06:25 AM you replace the file with the same name with it
fearuin Apr 08, 2007, 06:54 AM have you tried the dll i posted?
I have tried your first one (the StoredData.dll) but didn't worked. Now I will try the second fix (the RAR file with weird name).
EDIT: It works! Thanks Rhye! :goodjob:
CornMaster Apr 13, 2007, 06:46 AM Seems to have fixed my problem with the Arabs too.
GoodGame Apr 15, 2007, 04:28 PM The new .DLL fixed my installation as well. The Romans would get caught in hanging pause at the end of turn, at about turn 35-37. Now it's fixed.
TreeCounter Apr 17, 2007, 07:55 AM I'm trying to use the same fix, but I'm having trouble locating the .rar file in my downloaded copy of the mod. Could anyone give me some help?
Edit: Okay, got it! For other lost souls out there - .rar is a type of compressed file. A free decompressor is RarZilla - [URL="http://www.philipp-winterberg.de/software/rarzilla_free_unrar.php"]. It managed to overwrite the correct dll file, even though I couldn't find it by hunt and peek.
