View Full Version : NES (Never-Ending Story)
das Apr 29, 2002, 11:17 AM As a new genre emerges, I decided to make my own topic.
NOTE: At first there are just the Civ III nations, and each one can take one. Later, new countries can appear. TO create a new country, some new member can either replace the old one, or take command of a rebel movement. It begins in Industrial Age, 1848 Oh yes, and make it realistic, pay respect to other writers, and before joining, read previous posts.
Don't begin yet, wait unti l I say it!

Question: Are America and India original Civilizations, or have they been ruled by England?
das Apr 29, 2002, 12:46 PM The India was great for centuries. It was leading the Far Eastern Economy. After 840-990 AD War against China, India has pushed China into anarchy, ruining the supremacy of this empire.
But in 1824, a challenge came. Russian expedition has established good relationship with Japan, a wealthy but backwards island, and managed to bring them up to date, as part of their imperialistic ambitions in China. Soon, India has understood that it lsot it's opportunity to quickly ocnquer Pacific. By the times Java was conquered, Japanese have already established a vast naval empire and built Manilya (Manila), as their Second Capital. Now India's new and energetic president, Gajarupta, has spaerheaded the Race for Pacific...
---------------------------------------
Shuivayka, Foreign Minister, Vaja Gurta, Defence Minister and Gajarupta, the President, were all from the Indian army, and they served in the same battalion, plus Vaja Gurta and Gajarupta were old school pals, and in the army they were in the same squad. They all served in Two Month War against Javan Rebels in 1832. Now, they all have agreed to attack China, to install a new republican government in South China (which they shall bring up to date to oppose Japan), where there were a lot of republican activists.
--------------------------------
General Mahubujra was commander of Indian 11th Army (in Hanoi). Five days earlier, he got a letter from high command: "TO Invade South China, and stop at Shanghai Line ("Shanghai Line" was a Parallel from Shanhai to Indian Border)" and to try to save as much of his soldiers and as much of Chinese citizenry survive.
das Apr 29, 2002, 12:52 PM This political map and this world's history here are all TOTALLY FICTIONAL.
Sixchan Apr 29, 2002, 01:08 PM Okay.
Prime Minister Johnathan Sanford Took his seat in Parliament.
"Honourable, and Right Honourable Gentlemen shall we get underway? My first proposal is of vital importance to the commercial prosperity of our great land. There are untold riches in the Pacific trading routes, and we, at the very end, are being exploited out of our money! The Far East offers untold treasures and riches! We have sent scouts and diplomats there, and I have come to an imoprtant conclusion. There is a giant continent, untouched by the Eastern Civilizations, and I believe that WE should set up colonies there!"
There was a cheer from the House.
"I believe we should vote on this right away!"
Half an hour later, the support had been great enough (due to a Liberal majority in Parliament) to pass the motion. That day, ships laden with settlers set out from Plymouth.
sealman Apr 29, 2002, 01:55 PM Gereral Zietsev fortifies his men in the mountains of Northern China. He looks over the land and knows that these mountains will provide a secure defense against any counterattack that the Chinese forces might make into the interior of Mother Russia.
As Zietsev settles in and consolidates his mountain holdings, General Korneko moves into Manchuria. Although Russia is allied with Japan, it is imperative that the Russian Military take control of the vast resources in the region. Kornerko knows that the Chinese Resistance will be fierce and he is expecting high casualties. But deep down, he knows that Mother Russia has thousands and thousands of young boys to throw into this meat grinder. He also knows that China has just as many, if not more.
__
Romanov looks at his ministers and says: "This 'Toulon Pact' is dangerous. Greece, France and Rome have nowhere to exert their influence except towards Mother Russia and Germany. Send envoys to the Germans and English to see about joining the 'Dual Alliance'. Tell Prime Minister Sanford that he can pass through Russia enroute to his newly discovered land - provided we are accepted into his alliance."
sealman Apr 29, 2002, 01:59 PM Russian ships set sail from Petropavlovsk and Karaga on the Eastern shores of Kamchatka and land on the Northwestern corner of the North American Continent. Their the intrepid Russian Explorers set up the colonies of Tadonia and Romanovograd.
Sixchan Apr 29, 2002, 02:34 PM Prime Minister Sanford, recieving the letter from Russia, returned word that even though the colonization expedition was by sea, a MPP and a ROP were acceptable, and Russia would be accepted into the alliance provided Germany also gave consent.
Bill_in_PDX Apr 29, 2002, 03:17 PM And Germany Speaks...
King Wilhelm surveyed his latest world cartography report in the war room of the Portlandia Palace in Berlin.
The German people had done well since their humble beginnings, and Wilhelm was entrusted with keeping them secure, a task he took on with a blood oath at his coronation in what seemed like thousands of years ago.
However, the map and diplomatic reports painted an ominous picture. Clearly this Toulon Pact foreshadowed a difficult path ahead for the German people.
While comforted by the knowledge of his long standing alliance with the faithful English, Wilhelm knew that while PM Sanford's army was well trained, modern, and valiant, it was also lacking in numbers sufficient to directly assist German ground troops should the Toulon Pact turn aggressive....
Yet, an intriguing possibility had come to Wilhelm's attention. Tzar Romanov is asking to join his alliance with England, and PM Sanford has already recommended acceptance.
Wilhelm begins to pace the Great Hall of Heros...something he always does when a matter of great import is to be decided. Here stood statues and paintings in commemeration of the great generals in Germany's past. Wilhelm thought deeply...let me do right by these great men...
"Elmo!" he shouts to his personal aide..."send word to Romanov and Sanford. We welcome our friends the Russians into our pact!"

wilboman Apr 29, 2002, 03:29 PM I'll speak for the Japanese. They look like they could be fun.
For the time being, I'm going to be deemed "The Dragon King", in respect to uknemesis's wonderful story.
Edit: This is, of course, a most humble request. I'll hold the reins of Japan with honour. If you'll let me.
Sixchan Apr 29, 2002, 03:31 PM By the looks of it, this could be the prequel to the original Never-Ending Story.
Also Note: What the English lack in an army, they more than make up for in Naval Power.

The German's know that their good friends the English rule the high seas. An attribute that will be highly valued should our new pact-mates the Russians drag us into a Pacific war.
Bill_in_PDX Apr 29, 2002, 04:15 PM The German Fleet Goes Forth
Wilhelm is pleased that soon the Russians will be joining his partnership with England. He is hopeful that great commerce and trade can be forged between these three powerful nations.
Wilhelm sends word to Romanov and Sanford that a summit should be held soon to discuss sphere's of influence and mutual defense. Wilhelm offers to hold this great meeting at his Portlandia Palace if the other leaders are so inclined. First order of business would be to rename the alliance and show the world their solidarity.
Meanwhile, he also notes that his friends are aggressively colonizing the world. Wilhelm, like many German rulers, has a special place in his heart for a land on the coast of South America near the Parana River and a small vacation village named Buenos Aries.
Wilhelm decides to settle this unclaimed land and sends for a small battlegroup under the command of Admiral Tirpitz.
In his flagship Graf Spee, Tripitz leaves Bremen with only two capital ships and escorts, but the real value of this mission are the three groups of settlers, and their galleons, who will establish three new towns of Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, and New Berlin in the name of King Wilhelm.
Tirpitz knows that time is of the essence, and the ships he has chosen for his battlegroup are the fastest available. The Hall of Heros in Portlandia Palace has no naval leaders enshired there...and Tirpitz aims to be the first Admiral there...
Jason The King Apr 29, 2002, 05:27 PM As Washington watched his mighty people finally rise the statue of himself, he laid back in his seat and observed the map of S. America.
"Hmm.. Slave, please send for my domestic advisor. Tell him I need to talk about some South American territory. It is urgent, so hurry."
"My wits tell me that the backwards people of natives will honor our civilized forces and people. Anyhow, if they don't, who cares..." Washington thought to himself. He then looked at his map on the wall. The map of north america, and the every increasing forces of the Iroquios...
sealman Apr 29, 2002, 05:42 PM "So Whilhem wishes for a summit, agreed! We shall arrive at the Portlandia Palace as soon as the date is set, providing the Chinese do not intervene."
Casualties continue to mount during the Manchurian Campaign. The Chinese army, as inadequate as it is, is making the Russian army pay in blood for each mile taken. Russian troops eagarly await the arrival of Japanese troops on the mainland.
Sixchan Apr 29, 2002, 05:49 PM As the English ships pass round South America with surprisingly little difficulty, Prime Minister Sanford packed his suitcase and got on his Personal Frigate, headed for the Portlandia Palace.
Jason The King Apr 29, 2002, 06:15 PM With word from the military advisor, Washington ordered for the assemblyment of settlers as well as artillary and troops.
"Your lord, I merely trying to explain to you the consequences of sending such a vast amount of military with the settlers. The colonies of Rome and England might take it the wrong way!" Explained the Military advisor. Washington, looking very frustrated ordered:
"Do as I say, twenty artilary cannons and one hundred men shall be dismarked to the new colony of Argentina. Along with the army, send twenty ironclads to accompany the frigates. I don't want to take a chance at anything. As for you, advisor," now directing his attention to the lonely domestic advisor huddled in the corner, " contact the Iroquios, I would like to speak with them, and know whose ruler it is. I suggest a pact or mutualism. Tell them of our plans, and invite them to have half of the Argentina colony, if need is great. Now go."
(I would like to know if America was once ruled by England, or if it is an original colony, please.)
Sixchan Apr 30, 2002, 09:02 AM I would guess from the fact I'm JUST colonising Australia, that America is a Civilization in it own right.
Sanford doesn't know about the colonisation yet, since Radio hasn't been invented, and Telegraph lines won't be under the Atlantic, but American colonisation won't bother him much, as long as they 'keep their greedy hands off our new continent!'
wilboman Apr 30, 2002, 09:03 AM The Shogun was listened pensively to what his foreign and war secretaries had to say.
"It looks like the Russians are having great trouble in China, and they need our help. Fact is, although their army is vast, they are hopeless tactically, and completely outclassed by the hordes of Chinese. Our army is short of men, but superior of equipment. If our glorious imperial navy blocks and bombards the most populous chinese cities, and our armies in Korea attempt to increase our holdings there, I feel we could be looking at a very beneficial situation." The SecWar bowed deeply in respect.
"Also," the foreign secretary piped in, "this may well increase goodwill among the other Great European nations, who, I have heard, are seeking to discover who their real friends are. A good footing with them may well gain us a boon in future..."
"Then so let it be done. And may God grant us victory over the heathen chinese!"
das Apr 30, 2002, 10:13 AM Mahubujra's 11th Army was advancing quickly. Much of the Chinese soldiers that hey swa were fighting with medieval swords and early muskets, and also, much of Chinese forces were in Manchuria, so Hong Kong soon fell, while Yunnan, populated mainly by mountain warlords in military democracy has rebelled and joined Japanese, as the capital of South China was established at Hong Kong...
--------
Mahubujra was proud of his men. But then... Suddenly, Imperial Guard, China's only up-to-date Cavalry unit, has arrived to front... Now, 11th Army had a true problem...
uknemesis Apr 30, 2002, 10:23 AM I shall speak for the great Greek people, and until others take France and Rome, for the entire Toulon Pact.
But Greece is mine :p , I need some pracitce with them since they will be the subject of my new story...
*******************************************
First Prince Alexander looked out of the window of his Palace. He was bored. He had carved himself an empire from the Ukraine into Turkey, earning himself the title Alexander the Great. He had changed his rank though, King made him sound too old. Prince sounded much better to his ears. But with his brother also being a Prince, he had decided to call himself the First Prince to show his importance, while not losing the youthful-sounding rank.
He was only 24, one of the youngest leaders in the world, and he liked to use it to his advantage. Many other national leaders underestimated him, to their cost.
He had just received news of the Trinity Alliance as his spies had reported it was now called.
It worried him, but not greatly. The Russian Army was tied up in China, the British were all sea and no land strength, and the Germans could be overwhelmed by the sheer force of Greece's huge and powerful army. Neither Germany or Greece had the numbers of the Chinese or the Russians, but they had large numbers, and technological advantages.
Greece and Germany's armies were equal in strength and technology, he accepted, but Germany didn't have the inspired leadership of Alexander.
Kaiser Wilhelm was good, and his damned Chancellor Bismarck was a genius, but they lacked knowledge of today's battlefields.
So this Trinity Alliance was not a threat, he decided. And began to plot his next expansion...
Russia.
He had been sponsoring rebels in the south of Russia for some time, and now their army was away, it was the perfect time to strike. Germany would have to react, and would be halted by Greece's allies, as Alexander marched all the way to the Urals, taking Moscow and St. Petersburg, and then hold the Urals against the expected Russian counterattack.
But they would be defeated in the mountains by the well trained Greeks, and especially their new Alpine troops. And then, he would march west to meet up with his allies, and crush Germany.
And if his allies tried to stop him claiming all of the land he took, he would crush them too.
Europe would be his. He was sure of it.

das Apr 30, 2002, 10:57 AM To UKNEMSIS: There are no rebels in South Russia right now, and have you read the Statistics Post? Germany's and Greece's army and navy are close to equal, while only HALF of Russian army is away in Manchuria (I think). but about the rest of it, you can launc h WWI, as soon as you want to (only please, make it REALISTIC)!
To SKILORD: Why sure. What's your ruler name?

Jason The King Apr 30, 2002, 12:33 PM The American colonization operation was now in place, since his people had reached the destination (in between Germany's and Romes colony, but extending more inland then the both with less coastline), and Washington set up plans for the telegraph line to be assembled to reach his colony.
"It will take at least two years, my lord." We may be able to cut that in half if the Iroquios agree to help" explained his domestic advisor. If it would take two years, he would need to assemble a fleet of fast moving ships to relay massages, thus the RMRS is created, the Rapid Message Relay System. A fleet consisting of five ships that could moneuver back and forth from his soon-to-be colony in south america simultaneasly, taking each ship only a week (is that believeable?) to reach it's destination. Washington prepared his highest general, John Adams, to accompany The first RMRS ship to be dispatched.
"But my lord, my place is here with our army, not at a puny colony!" argued Washingtons general.
"Do not argue with me, you will go!" Washington said. "Also, tell the Egyptians, Germany, France, and Rome of our arrival in South America, and make it known that we don't wish to engage in any combat."
Radramon Apr 30, 2002, 01:03 PM i will lead the Advanced Iroqious into battle.
With the time i have, i will put this:
As too response to Washington, Chairman Blower of the Wind, wishes to allie with the Americans.
"Counsilr, please inform the Americans of the Northern Alliance to be put in place for our two people, a pact of mutualism. Thank you."
"Yes sir."
Sixchan Apr 30, 2002, 01:45 PM The meal had alredy started. Wilhelm and Romanov were talking casually, and though they barely knew each other, they treated each other like old friends. They had just finished their appetisers when the door flew open, and there stood a solitary figure with good composure.
(If you want, you can picture him like this: http://users.belgacom.net/wilde/graphics/hatandcape.jpg I know its Oscar Wilde, but this is how I pictured Sanford since the first post was written after a trip to the University's English Department.)
"Prime Minister Sanford! I was worried you would not attend!" Wilhelm seemed full of cheer, and Sanford cursed in his head for missing the pre-dinner wine.
"I hope I did not offend, Kaiser!" As he walked towards the table, the other two stood and shook hands with him. They sat down. "How are affairs in the Kingdom of Deutchland, Wilhelm?" Sanford asked, conversationally.
Wilhelm grew happier by the moment. "Things are progressing magnificently! We are working hard to build many factories in all our cities, and we are doing well! Also, my workers are now building the new railway lines across our country. My people are calling it 'Wilhelm Rail', and I am of course very flattered that my people should honour me so!" Sanford reflected that Wilhelm had most likely drunk for the both of them in his absence.
Sanford turned to Romanov. "And in Russia? How is the war going?"
"Pretty ambiguously, sadly. We are making incursions into Chinese territory, but both our and their forces grow weaker with each confrontation." But then he leaned forward, and the other two followed suit. "However, we are going to employ a new tactic that will enable us to gain the upper hand. Our explorers are going to go into China ahead of our regular troops and cut the supply lines to the Saltpetre and Iron mines! With little supplies in reserve, the Chinese will soon fall pray to our attacks." A broad smile appeared on his face, and he sat back up again. He took a drink from his glass of red wine.
As Sanford began to butter a roll, Wilhelm asked what Sanford had been waiting for. "What about you?"
Sanford sat up. "Well, I have two achievements of my own to report! First, our ships have sailed halfway round the world in a time faster than anything previously recorded, and British colonisation of the island called Australia has now begun. Secondly, The island of Malta in the Medeterranian Sea has declared its indepedance and has asked for British troops to be stationed on the Island to help protect it's Sovereignty. So now the Trinity Alliance has a naval base in one of the most useful places, where we can strike at any nation bordering it, should we be attacked by any of them!" He stood and instinctively, so did the other two. Raising his glass, he Proclaimed "To the Trinity Alliance!"
"To the Trinity Alliance!" The other two chorused, and they clinked glasses and drank.
wilboman Apr 30, 2002, 01:48 PM Shogun Sony Nintendo hammered the table with his fist.
Things in China just could not have gone better!
Not only was he making much larger gains in Manchuria than expected, the warlords of Yunnan province had rebelled to join under his enlightened rule. Some careful wheeling and dealing now, and he would have his very own puppet state eating away at China like a cancer!
Smiling from ear to ear, he turned his attentions to his impending colonization effort. The SecFor and his newly appointed Secretary of Sharing (a very 1984-esque name for his chief Settler) had been patiently standing behind him as he pored over the maps and parlayed with SecDef Hideyo Kojima.
"So, the Southern continent is out of the question then?"
"Yes, sir, the English have made their plans for the place they call Australia VERY clear indeed. Unless you're feeling particularly daring and wish to take on the whole Royal Navy, I suggest we scrap that." The SecFor was completely unequivocal in his condemnation of any such plans.
"But," said the SecShare, Harate Game-Cube "Your plans for the Pacific Isles and New Guinea have proceeded excellently. On New Guinea the locals are treating us like gods, and..."
"Treat them with likewise respect," the Shogun shot in, "We don't want any form of native revolt spoiling everything!"
"Yes, sir. In the Pacific, sir, we have established a large colony on a group of Islands the inhabitants call Ha-Waii, or something like. We've named it the Harbor of Pearls."
"Nice name. What about the polynesian islands?"
"We're not quite sure yet, but the prospects are very good, sir."
The Shogun nodded satisfiedly. Things were continuing just as, nay, better than, planned. Shogun Nintendo, the first Christian Shogun of the proud people of Japan, thanked God for his benevolence...

An English man with partially Japanese blood was heading this operation to colonise Austalia, and you could recognise his ancestry by his name: Captain Rare Ware.
Captain Rare Ware, along with his brother and Cousin, Captain Com Ware (Capcom to his friends) and Commander Square Soft were very prominent figures in the Navy, and now, reaching Austrailia, decided that the ships should divide into three groups, and sail round the Island looking for hospitable terrain.
Soon the cities of Adelaide, Sydney, and Perth were set up.

"What were they rebelling about?" Washington asked
"Oh it's now important, my lord."
"Tell me."
"Yes, king. They were rebelling because of there jealusy of the Republic of Iroquios. They want the Republic, and for you to be the Chairman. Sir?"
"Begin assembling the government. We shall 'vote' on the rulers. For this, I give to my people."
"yes sir!" The military and cultural advisor left the room.
"What of my colonies?" Washington asked his d.a.
"Sir, our first ship has returned with a report. It reads:
My lord, We have set up numerous cities in our land. One, which is the only coastal city, is named Rio de Janeiro after the natives, but our people call it San Francisco. Also, the largest citie, is named Brasillia, along with the two other cities of New Chicago and New Concord located on the road to the most inland city of Brasillia. "
"Great, as soon as you can, please establish a govenor for each city. Divide my forces in fifths, 20 in each city with the exception of Rio de Janero whci should have 40 men. You may go tell my military advisor of this."
"ahh, my technology advisor, what have you for me today?" Washington looked straight at is T.a.
"Well, my lord, we have made several breakthroughs in the field of military warfar. We have discovered the use of rifles instead of muskets, and with your consent, would like to upgrade all of our military."
"Granted."

wilboman May 01, 2002, 04:43 AM "So, you're saying the Persians are looking for a piece of China, are you? They want friends, huh?"

"Are they rich?"
"The Persians, sir? We're not quite sure how rich, but they look to be pretty wealthy, all right. In addition, they're trying to create more jobs, and update their old technology..."
"Tell their ruler this: We are prepared to offer them transport on our fleet, and Japanese naval protection in any campaign against China. For a reasonable sum, of course. We may also be willing to trade them technologies and offer them naval materiel, ships and expertise. Once again, for a price." Nintendo could be accused of a lot of things, but he was always open to an opportunity to increase his wealth and influence through peaceful means.
He then turned his attention back to his various projects around the world. Most important, the Trans-Japanese railroad project, which was coming along very well. Several miles of new track were being laid every day.
Next up, the underseas telegraph to Korea, which, although it was encountering some technical hiccups, seemed to be in order. He saw that, and new that it was good. A response line that would take less than a day would allow for far more direct control of the Manchurian expansion.
In the Pacific, his Navy, together with the new island colonies, were hard at work securing safe trade routes where peaceful traders from all nations could feel relatively secure from pirates, brigands and corsairs, people that were becoming an increasing problem in the great ocean. This safety did not come for free, of course, but the Shogun's economists and analysts were already hard at work figuring out an acceptable percentage that could be taken as a protection fee.
Finally, Yunnan. Nintendo's SecFor was very optimistic. Already there were Japanese officials in every level of the Warlord's military democracy. If not yet a puppet state, they were at least by now a dependancy, and, it seemed, a very happy one too.

So, my friend, athough Yunnan is south of the Shanghai line, I feel this is a decision we must leave up to Yunnan's inhabitants. The moment there is a ruler ready to take up the leadership of the Southern Chinese democracy, we'll relinquish any control of the area, provided the people wish it."
The Indian ambassador looked mildly assuaged, but still skeptical.

Cinese lands were traveling quickly beneeth his holy warriors unapposed feet, although scouts said that The Chinese army was on it's way to deal with them and he was positioning his forces to allow them to sandwich the Imperial gaurd between them and the combined forces of India and Shanghi. thanks to technological contributions made by Japan his troops now carried Jihad Rifles, The Persian take on the japanese rifle, instead of Muskets and his small inexperienced navy was learning the art from masterful Japanese sailors. Darius was sure that all of this would help his nation grow in power, it was costing an arm and a leg though, although his economy was quicly throwing off it's ancient cobwebs as new Factories opened up throughout his nation. He hadn't gotten that technology from Japan but had rather..... borrowed it..... from Egypt.

Bill_in_PDX May 01, 2002, 03:00 PM The Kaiser Learns...
Kaiser Wilhelm received the weekly briefing from his cabinet in Portlandia Palace, and he was finding it hard to concentrate...
Things had gone exceedingly well during the recent summit. PM Sanford and he had always been friendly in demeanor with each other, and Sanford certainly could put away the wine with ease. What was refreshing was how impressive Tsar Romanov had been. Wilhelm was looking forward to seeing just how well these two partners and he could work toward security and profit.
His wandering thoughts were snapped back to attention by Admiral Donitz who was speaking to recent operations...
"Sir, the colonization project in Agentina has been partly successful".
Wilhelm smiled at the obvious political double speak..."Partly? How is a colonization partly successful? Did they make it?"
"Yes sir" replied the admiral, clearly nervous, "they have established a city called New Berlin near the mouth of the Parana river and the village you suggested, however the expansion into two other territories was halted when they encountered the American's to their north".
"Ah, so Washington saw the same opportnity. That would be just like him eh?" Replied Wilhelm. "Any hostile intent?"
"None so far" stepped in General Bismark, the most respected man, outside of Wilhelm himself, in all of Germania, and much of Europe.
"Very well, I will cable Washington personally, and emphasize that we too are there in peace...anything else gentlemen?"
Minster Kiel stepped forward and cleared his throat. "Yes sir, I have some potentially troubling news..."
Bismark looked directly at Kiel, the diminutive man in spectacles was head of German Intelligence, he was hardly the sterotypical spy type, but he was very dangerous in his own right, and rarely one to sound a false alarm. Bismark knew this information would not be making his day...
"Sir," Kiel continued, "I have received credible information that Prince Alexander has been funding resistance movements in Russian and other parts of Europe. Recently that funding has increased significantly, potentially indicating that an operation of some sort has gotten under way. I am working to find out more, but we have few assets in Greece, and we may have better luck working backwards through the groups in Russia. Given our new friendship with Tsar Romanov, perhaps we could work together on this one."
"I agree, I will cable Romanov today, and ask him to work together on this one."
Prince Alexander eh? Wilhelm's thoughts took over again. Now there is a man with potential to be a great leader. But he is young and foolish. I cannot believe he would be behind the violent Russian resistance movement....but then again, it would start to make sense out of a lot of partisan activity in Europe in the past few years...and Kiel is rarely wrong.
With that news, the meeting ended and Wilhelm sat down to draft notes:

Righello had recieved Alexander's message about being 'bored'. Rome was in no situation for a war. The Germans were situated right in the Adriatic, and the English were on Malta. The Roman army and navy could not handle one of them on it's own, and there was no way Righello would share a common border with that madman expansionist Alexander, unless he were moving up to it.
What really stung was that Alexander knew this all too well. The Toulon pact was the only thing that could oppose the newly founded Trinity alliance but Rome had no place in alliances.
Greece should have been Rome's enemy but the miserable acts of Righello IX set them back quite a bit.
Righello sat down at his desk and began writing a telegram to the Kaiser.

We'll mostly be setting up trading posts for whatever resources (hopefully rubber) we find there, but some permanent sentlement will definitely take place along the riverbanks and may spread out from there.
We have reported that in the last month over 20 new fishing, gold mining, and rubber camps were set up in an area about 300 sq. miles Northwest of our current colonies.
Happy Hunting,
King Righello.
Sixchan May 01, 2002, 05:07 PM Prime Minister Sanford looked at the projected reports for the next few years. The territorial one was most interesting. His Advisors had Predicted a colony in Papua New Guinea, a large strip of land in Chile, complete control of Australia, and the islands of New Zealand. Also, the map showed huge gains for the Nations involved in the war on China. The World is changing so very quickly in these ultra-modern times, he mused.
This was the map provided. It shows the predicted borders in 1853.
Bill_in_PDX May 01, 2002, 05:40 PM An unexpected communique...
Kaiser Wilhelm was lining up his putt on the 10th green at his private golf course in the Black Forest, when he was interrputed by Elmo. He had been addicted to the game ever since his friend Sanford had introduced it to him during a visit to Scotland some years ago.
Elmo knew better than to interrupt the King during his "quiet time" but this was a matter of urgency. A message had been received by his diplomats in Rome from the new King.
Wilhelm had known Benevolenza the Ninth quite well, and had little to say that was good about him. He still held him responsible for the formation of the Toulon Pact that divided Europe and seemed so threatening even today.
The message held promise, as it seemed the new King was being much more pragmatic. But, Wilhelm had some reservations. Given the knowledge of Alexander's treachery in the Crimea, could this be another ploy?
He carefully crafted his response

Hail friend!
Germany welcomes your accension to the throne. I am cautiously hopeful that your reasonable approach to global politics will help to defuse the current situation in Europe.
Germany, and her allies in the Trinity Alliance have no designs on European domination. We have merely banded together in defense from our overtly and covertly aggressive neighbors.
Should you be willing to denounce aggression, and join the ranks of those who believe in peaceful industrialization of Europe, then I would welcome full diplomatic relations with Rome, and encourage my partners to do the same. The benefits of trade to Rome could be quite lucerative, and as sign of friendship, I would be willing to forgo the usual tarrifs on pure Sweedish iron ore, something you might be in need of.
Further, we both have presence in South America, with the Americans between us. Good communications now will ensure that we are not drawn into needless blood shed over far flung possessions.
Best Regards

"John, I have some new ideas about the expansion of our glorius empires," Washington spoke to his MA, after relaxing in his oval office in Washington. Establish colonies, just for testing for now, as far inland as you can go. This also proves beneficial to our position against the Iroquios, in case the decide the Norther Alliance dosent do well for them. And wait, I havn't forgotten my southern people. Claim half of the mountain range horzontally, so that we may benifet from the recourses. Also, began recruiting colonists for a colonial army, if need arises. One last thing, begen the building of our superior Navy, that of which there will be no ending too. You may go now." After John's note taking was finished, he went to exile.

wilboman May 02, 2002, 09:15 AM The Shogun was back! But what a foolish time to fall ill.
The world had moved on fast without him, and he was watching his plans for the world be changed by the actions of others. Although he now had the most powerful navy in the Pacific, and controlled nigh on every island in the Micronesian, Melanesian and Polynesian island groups, save the Solomon islands, he found himself unable to expand inland and establish the colonies he wished to establish in South America. The English would not be pleased if he tried anything, so he decided to lay off.
He had however, sent troops to Canada. Directly north of the Iroqouis border, in a wonderfully sheltered bay behind an island the natives called Vancouver island, he set up his first trading port, and named it after the sheltering island. He had also established several more up along the coast to just south of A river now as the "Stikine". His explorers had also stretched inland, establishing colonies all through the Canadian Rockies and near some lakes in an area known as the Great Plains. Beyond that, it was Iroqouis land, and it had become the Japanese policy to step on as few toes as possible.
Meanwhile, the settlers on New Guinea had been working hard. All areas of the island, save the initial Persian and English colonies, now belonged in name to Japan, and the northern coast in particular was now heavily settled.
He was now ready to leave the path of the warrior that had been his nation's lot for so many generations. With the war in China successfully concluded, save for the small problem of Yunnan, his efforts could again be focused on building the trade routes he desired so much.
Dispatches were sent.
Dispatch to all nations with borders on the Pacific. (Russia, Australia/Chile, Iroqouis, India)
I, shogun Nintendo of the humble nation of Japan, have a request to make of you. As you are probably well aware, Japan controls the Pacific, and we are the ones guarding the trade routes that allow your nation's traders to cross the great sea unmolested by the Malay Pirates and other Brigands that until recently were such a scourge. Now, however, we see the increasing need for ports in which our ships can stock up and resupply, in addition to being Japanese ports of trade around the area. Therefore, we request humbly that we may be allowed one such "Free Port" in each of your territories (Chile, California, Australia, Indonesia, Alaska). You see, of course, the strategic potential of us having such ports in your areas. It would be terribly hard for us to conceal any buildup of military power in preparation for a hostile offensive on your holdings, in addition to the fact that should we go to war, easily-siezed Japanese towns would be within your reach. Finally, I might add, you will of course be compensated, and the traders of each nation that agrees to allow us one such port will be treated extra well by our navies.
I hope you may find it in your hearts to make fair offers, and that all of you may deliver positive replies.

SKILORD May 02, 2002, 10:01 AM The Unlikely has happened! (big surprise huh?) Persia has declared war on Babylon for their refusal to join in a unified Muslim state. Blitzkreg followed with Persian Cavalry and Riflemen marching through babylonian lands, crushing the opposition, The Siani penninsula has been heavily fortified and is surrounded by Persian Ironclads. However news of an Egyptian "Destroyer" named The Nile Queen moving up towards the Persian stronghold disheartens the troops. The Entire conquest was greatly assisted by the Persian "Redemption" gun, which is being demonstrated to other nations under the name: gatling. the Fortified troops in the Siani penninsula, which Persia plans to make a free state upon Egypt's surrender, along with any other part of Egypt that it captures, which is unlikely. All of the land offered to Greece, except for a small outlet to the Medditeranean is going to form a nation known as turkey, which has a small fleet and army and has signed a MPP and ROP with persia.
The Ironclads had dismantled the Babylonian Arabian Fleet, Egypt was another matter entirely. The Single destroyer in the fleet was steaming towards Sianiland (the name of the future free state, unless i get to the nile, which i doubt.) The Ironclads shot their cannons at it, maybe ny sheer force of numbers they could sink it. They didn't, the Nile queen ran over what remained of the ships after the battle on it's way to Siani.
On a Private Note: Whoopie i have a puppet state now! and oil, lots and lots of oil! :p lol j/k i hope i can stopp the Egyptian Advance, Rome: the offer is still there ;) think of theat beautiful S. American Land. Greece, you ran outta time sorry.

wilboman May 02, 2002, 11:05 AM Nintendo sighed in exasperation. That Gajarupta person seemed determined to take absolutely everything the wrong way. How the hell could he get aggressive on Indonesia? Why on earth would he even bother?! He didn't really need Indonesian ports anyway. He had the Philipines, and he had New Guinea. In fact, he regretted even sending that dispatch to the Indians. He knew they'd be unreasonable.
"Ah well. Let them rave about what they want. I just think they may have a bee in their bonnet about the whole Yunnan affair. Lord only knows why. We've promised to hand it back once a leader emerges to take the reins of South China, and besides, it was THE YUNNANESE THAT JOINED US! We didn't even invade them!" the SecFor was just a bit annoyed as well.
"It doesn't seem like anything I do will please them, so I may as well just forget about it. I sincerely hope the others are more reasonable."
The Domestic Advisor, Onumisha, was waiting with some important news. The results of the elections in the Japanese Phillipines had just arrived. It seemed he had won a landslide victory there too, and by now it seemed perfectly clear that the Shogun would rule as Japan's elected monarch for another ten years.
Dispatch to the Persian ruler, Daedlus
I wish to let you know that I do in no way see your colonisation as a threat, but I do have one favour to ask you. In the running of your colony on New Guinea, please treat the original inhabitants as well as I know you would treat any Japanese citizens living in your country. Maltreatment may spark rebellion, which may spread. And I'm sure you'll agree that that's in neither of our best interests.
Since we now seem to be so close to eachother in terms of colonies, it may be in our best interests to sign a right of passage with eachother. This would of course mean that your navy may use our safe routes in the Pacific at any time.

TOP SECRET
My friend Romanov,
Are you interested in signing a trade Embargo against Persia? If you are, then Germany might too. Also, perhaps you would consider encouraging your friends in the Pacific to do the same?
Bill_in_PDX May 02, 2002, 12:25 PM Wilhelm was caught by surprise at the rapid advance of Persian forces through what had been a well trained Babaloynian Army. Further, he was about to begin a new trading partnership with Daedlus when this sudden attack, previously described as unlikely began. This was quite troubling.
Wilhelm called Bismark to the room. He instructed the General to deploy his strategic reserve (20 elite rifle divisions and 15 Calvary divisions) in position to assist either Russia in the east or at Germany's border with Greece. The new railway system allowed Bismark exceptional mobility within Germany's interior.
The standard garrison fortifications already in place to Germany's south would receive additional Cannon regiments. Germany would be alert for any such blitz attacks from her neighbors,
Clearly the battles in the mid-east had hinged on the leadership vacuum that existed at the top of their government. No one had heard a peep out of old King Babalous in decades.
But now Wilhelm knew that the King's son had escaped to the Georgian provinces in Russia. A stable Europe was a principle that guided Wilhelm's thinking. Clearly he could not stand behind the establishment of a puppet state in Turkey. The affairs in the Mid-East itself were little of his concern, simply religious disputes that had raged for centuries, but Turkey was the door step to Europe, and a strategically vital one at that.
A interesting parallel was occuring in France even today. No one had seen Joan in public for two years....hmmm...perhaps Rome, England, Russia (who might like a warm water Atlantic port) and Germany could cement a friendship there someday...
Wilhelm knew what his position on Turkey would be though, and he sat down to write.

The instability caused by the current Turkish situation only threatens my allies further with an agressive neighbor in Greece.
I would like to continue our trade relationship that had started so promisingly. However, I must ask you to strongly consider supporting the son of King Babalous as the rightful ruler of Turkey with a peace agreement. Now that you have impressively gained control of the crossroads of the world, I hope that you will halt your expansion westward. Germany has little interest in your activities in other parts of the world, so long as they do not threaten our close friend Tsar Romanov.
Please do consider my request re: Turkey. This solution holds benefits for you as well, as having a buffer between you and the aggressive Alexander may not be a bad idea in these turbulent times. My first shipment of ore is ready to leave, but it is best if we wait on that until I hear your response.
Best regards,
Wilhelm

Recent events in the Middle East have resulted in a trade embargo against Persia. While the area of interest is not in Japan's sphere of influeve, I ask you to join with us and England in this embargo. Should the situation deteriorate, we may be forced to relocate some of our Asian Troops which may result in a renewed Chinese effort to re-take what was lost in the Chinese Wars.

After his inauguration (crowning), he has a strange dream.
A man attempte to fire a bow, and the string snaps. He searches for a new string, but finds none.
Then the same man stand there, wielding a pike. He wields it at an invisible foe, then watches as the end snaps. He cannot find a new end, and is demoted for loss of his pike.
The man stands there again, this time sitting on a horse. He wields a rifle, fires, and the trigger breaks off in his hand.
Then Erik wakes up. He realizes what the dream means. He decides to find a way of making all weapons have Replacable Parts. The research is begun.
Erik asks his advisor for a report on world diplomacy. The advisor cannot find it, so Erik orders him thrown to the sacred crocodiles. A second advisor informs him that there are no sacred crocodiles.
"Sir, the crocodiles died out 800 years ago! Besides, death penalty is also taken out of our laws," says the advisor.
Erik muttered a rude word, then ordered the second advisor to bring him a report on the world diplomacy.

Russia is content with her holdings in Western Alaska and fear that war may erupt between the Northern Alliance and Japan over the unclaimed lands in the wilds of Canada. Should such an event occur, Russian troops will assist in the DEFENSE of Japanese posessions.
Japan was the second power to estabish perminant settlements along the northwestern coast of North America, Russia being the first. Under long standing International Law, Japan has establish control of those coastal settlements. The current growing crisis regarding the un-settled interior can easily be settled similar to South America.
I will be touring my bases in Alaska in the following months and ask that we all met to discuss a peaceful division of this frozen wilderness. Wilhelm studied the latest version of Sanford's World Geopolitical Map. He was always amazed at the quality of Sanford's map making. His own commissioned cartographers paled by comparison.
He was also heartened by the news that his Prussian military designers were close to completing prototypes of two weapons. An improved cannon piece that had twice the range and better striking power, they called it artillery, but Wilhelm had seen advances in bombardment technology before, and while he welcomed the pending upgrade to his defense forces, the other development was even more eye opening. It seems his ever inventive scientists were working on something that appeared to be a mobile artillery piece on rolling tracks that allowed it to self propel over open terrain. Plus it was armored too.
Amazing stuff really, who knows, perhaps someday they will fly combat airships, and not just those crazy balloons that Sanford was always in.
While his researchers told him they were still several years from actual deployment of this thing they called a "panzer", they did recommend the immediate securing of oil supplies.
And thus on the ride back from the labs, Wilhelm pondered his map, and a stack of the latest telegraphs.
Daedlus seemed to be reasonable now, but why wouldn't he be? He had secured the land worth taking in Babalyon, and an unstable Turkey was no matter to him. It certainly was a problem for Romanov and Wilhelm though....
Sanford was recommending adding Japan and Emperor Nintendo to the Alliance. Romanov was also in favor. Their recommendations was all the Wilhelm needed, but he was a bit concerned with the tough talk coming out of North America. He was all in favor of joining his pact mates in defense. But did he want to be dragged into a global conflict over settlements in British Columbia?
Well, time to be a diplomat again, he thought to himself, and with that, out came the quill and paper...

Our Alliance
Hail Friends,
As always, I stand with you both. I am withholding the beginning of my trade agreement with Persia until both of you are satisfied with the outcome regarding the Babalyonian government. Perhaps you will see in my next communique a solution to this matter that is very acceptable to us.
Regarding the inclusion of Japan in our alliance. I agree if you both feel strongly about it. Having no outposts in the Pacific, I will heed your expert opinions. Were we to do so, we may want to meet as a group of four, and while we all vote equally on matters, it would be to our benefit to designate sphere's of influence around the world, so we do not step on each other's toes.
As a point of clarification, we all are engaged in a defense pact. I assume that if one of us were to take an offensive action, they would notify the others prior to the event, and allow them to stay neutral.

Proposed Peace
Friends,
The blood shed and growing ill will resulting from the Persian invasion of Babalyon has treatened all of our well being. I propose to broker a way out of this deadly maze for all of us.
I propose the following terms:
I. Immediate Peace Treaty between the rightful Bablyonian government in exile and Persia.
II. Installation of Prince Babalous as King in Ankara, with full control of the remaining Babalyonian military and governement, with the pledge that he will hold free and open elections within two years.
The infrastructure of the country is badly damaged. The new King will need time to restore basic services and end the famine plaquing the Kurds before the country is ready for democracy.
III. As a measure of good faith, Russian cossack forces should be allowed to escort the King, and provide basic security to the remaining Royal family until such time as elections are held. Further, Tsar Romanov will closely advise the new King, and be allowed to permanently close the stream of supplies and funding to rebel groups in southern Russia.
IV. Small, defensive only, detachments of Trinity Alliance forces will deploy near the frontiers of Free Turkey until such time as the infrastructure is restored.
All countries will know that an attack against these "peacekeeping" forces will be an attack against the Trinity Alliance itself.
With your acceptance of these terms, Friend Daedlus, I will recommend an immediate removal of any trade restrictions against you.
Keep in mind that I do not control the actions of my soveriegn allies, but my recommendation could be influential.
I await your response.

3) Regarding a RoP agreement. Turkey is free to make their own agreements as advised by their counsel. However, given the state of war, and general disdain within Turkey for Persian forces, I would advise you to remove your troops.

Xtreamskier27 May 03, 2002, 11:57 PM The nation of Zululand was in chaos last week after the former leader was killed by natural causes.
The government was in martial law until elections were held to figure out what kind of government Zululand would be and who the new leader would be. Admiral Fischer of the Zululand navy was elected the President of the United Zululand Rebublic. The people rejoiced over the election results. The first things the President would do was build up the navy to a operation steam powered navy of 12 divisions and build up the army also so that it had 20 divisions making Zululand one of the most powerful militaries in the world
The Zululand press asked the president why he built up the military he answered" I intend to back the United States of America in the japan crisis but I HOPE THAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE SOLVED DIPLOMATICALY I will even have the peace talks here in zululand if i have to. I have no intentions of joing the Northeren Aliance until the Aztecs are excluded from the N.A. because their leader is incompetent of controlling the great nation of Ateca.

Jason The King May 03, 2002, 11:57 PM NOTE: THIS IS BY XTREAMSKIER2005 (Or something like that). It was posted outside of our thread, but it belongs to this story. Make sure you know it is not by me!!!!!!!!
last week zululand erupted into caos after there beloved leader died of old age. The backup leader Adm. P. Fischer decided to hold an election to find out who is going to be the new leader of zululand.
Today the big election was held and Adm. P. Fischer was elected the new president of Zululand which is also a demacracy (decided in the election)
The first thing the Admiral decided to do is strenghten his army by developing cannons and mortars. He also improved the Navy by introducing the steam engine to all new and old ships.
The admiral also decided to improve living conditions and technology in Zululand so that his people may thrive in this technology filled world.
The admiral also was asked about the crisis between the US and Japan. He said"I will support the United States of America by sending reinforcements to the US but I will not join the Northern Aliance due the incompitent leader of the aztecs but I wish there would be no battles or war just a treaty between the US and Japan." --Zululand Times

wilboman May 04, 2002, 05:12 AM The Shogun smiled with pleasure as he saw his newest invention slide out of the drydocks. It was huge. Enormous. Amazing. And it gave him a naval edge noone else had.
As he watched, he new that almost twenty others of almost exactly the same specifications were nearly complete in his other ports. Finally the pirates would be eradicated once and for all.
He had noticed the obvious shortcomings of Ironclads as ocean-faring vessels, and so, he had commanded his reseachers to develop a better armored ship for seafaring activities.
Enormous, well armored, and equipped with breech-loading cannon and a new anti-ship weapon known as torpedoes, it was nigh on indestructible. It could also outrun the fastest sail-ship, and would easily leave the hopelessly slow Ironclads in it's wake.
His proud inventors had called it the Fearnothing.
But now for the diplomacy. He returned to his local residence, Kobe palace, and started writing.
To President Washington of America
I will very readily accept your offer, provided my Russian friends accept it too. I cannot express how glad I am that this did not end in the shedding of blood between our noble peoples.
To Conrad, Chieftain of the Peruvians
I grant recognition to your free state, but no more. For the time being, I shall have to see what develops. Hopefully, enough foreign recognition will be enough to keep the Peruvian state free.
To Gajarupta, President of the Honourable Nation of India
I'm afraid I'm not quite sure why we were fighting about Iwo Jima, as it happens to be in the middle of the Pacific, and far away from India's sphere of influence:p, but that was one of my father's wars. I hope we can forget that now, and move on together in peace.
P/S: In another note, the last Japanese troops and officials have been withdrawn from Yunnan, with the emergence of a provisionary government. We do, however, stand ready to help our South Chinese brethren fight off any Chinese assaults. I hope the Indian Army will bewilling to help us, should this happen.
To Sanford of the Glorious British
I cannot thank you enough for your support in the Canada matter. I would almost say that that alone was a major factor in what appears to be a peaceful resolution.
To the great Tsar of the exalted Russian people
Will you be accepting Wahington's proposal? I have notified him that I am more than willing to snip this foolish conflict in the bud, and will accept. Thank you again for your help in this matter. It was endlessly valuable.
Important: I'm now accepting America's proposal, not Das's, but am open for negotiation...

Although I do not really intend to pursue any colonization activity in the Americas any further, since I look set to get what is rightfully mine, and desire no more, I do see the prudence of a pact between our two peoples. Particularly as we do seem to be in much the same predicament, and we do share the same views on the Peuvian question...
Let it be so. But I warn you, this is a protection pact only. Any and all aggressive conduct on your part that may precipitate a war with any nation will leave the ensuing conflict squarely on your shoulders only. I would, of course, not expect you to treat me any differently.

Today the president of ZUR threw multiple plates at his map officers who couldent give him an acurate map of the world and he was charged with a mistermeaner and his response was im sorry but those stupid (the rest of the conversation could not be written because this a family news paper) basically he said the map makers are stupid and that he is asking any nation out there to send him a map of the world that is accurate.
das May 04, 2002, 11:50 AM You don't have Ironclads yet. And also, you can't change that quick! Look. everyone, when you want to take a nation, that already exists, first check info page (btw, Zulus were Despotism when you joined)!
uknemesis May 04, 2002, 11:55 AM I would have thought Zulus would have had a much stronger army than they would navy, although their army would be a bit out of date(spears etc), but it would be quite big because of their warrior traditions - most of their men were warriors if I remember correctly.
Anyway, can someone update me on Greece's position?! I've been busy, and haven't had time to post on this one. But I'd like to get back into the swing of things!
************************************************
Alexander woke up, his head sore. That damned cleaner had waxed the floor too much again! He'd fallen down the stairs, if he remembered correctly.
He massaged his temple. He must have banged his head hard enough to put him out cold.
He saw the cleaner looking pale at him.
"I'm so sorry my Prince! Please don't send me to the dungeon!"
"Dungeon?! It was an accident! They happen!" Alexander laughed. Then he was confused at her bewilderment.
Spartacus realised what had happened. The nasty b*stard had become nice! He just hoped it would last.
"Come sir, we must once again review the plans for the Russian invasion."
"Invade?! Russia?!" Alexander's amnesia confused him. "I have no intention of invading my neighbours! Was I trully that much of a moron?"
Spartacus nodded. "You concentrated on your military prowess at the expense of everything else."
"Well that will change now! I will be elected the first President of the new Greek Democracy! I will be loved by the people! I will keep our army and navy up to date, but only to protect our people, not to invade others!"
Alexander was speaking like his father, Spartacus reflected. Good.
"Sir, you need to give your opinion on some of the latest international and home events."
**********************************************
"Greece will forever support free democracies! Welcome the Peruvians with open arms, and try to get our Toulon Pact friends to join us in welcoming them!"
"What about military aid sir?"
"We will supply the Peruvians with arms and training, but will not fight for them, I must be seen as a peacemaking person. But we will support them in the political arena, and as I said, supply them. But of course, we would need something in return. Maybe some oil or other raw materials Greece needs at the moment."
"But we have all the oil and other raw materals that we need!"
"Not anymore. I want to begun a major industrial overhaul! I want us to compete with Great Britain and other major nations in the industrial race! Also, request that we be allowed to establish embassies in the UK, Russia and Germany. It seems that I neglected our friendship with them. Oh, and when our factories begin to pour out new goods, offer aid to our friends in the Toulon Pact to modernise their armies in alliance with us. We will work together to make our forces strong and well trained. But first, make sure the Greek Army and Navy get the latest technology."
"And what about the Canada situation?"
"Greece will support whoever our biggest trade partner is. Currently we trade with neither, so I don't give a damn! And put out the word, Greece is looking to increase its importing of oil, coal, saltpeter, wood, workers, iron, stone any any other resource, including new ones! And we will happily accept immigrants and buy any luxuries. Greece is prospering, and so we need more people to enjoy the prosperity and help Greece work for more, and we need to trade with the world to help our economy. Basically, I'm going to bring Greece bang up to date!"
"And finally sir, the colonies."
"What about them?"
"We don't have any!"
"Okay, set up a colony in the Falkland Islands if it is still free. And enquire with the Zulus how much of the latest technology we would have to trade with them to be given Madagascar. Tell them with Greece soon to prosper, we will be willing to pay a princely sum!"
President Alexander strolled from the room, a changed man.
********************************************
Can someone tell me if the Falklands have been taken? And plus, what is everyone's stance with Greece now we have changed?
Oh, and I did this because I've got a bad Alexander in Dangerous Games, I don't need another one in this!

Washington had his bag in his hands, and was on the way out of his oval office. He looked once more back, and let teh door shut his view. The elections of 1860 were finished, and Lincoln had one by a landslide.
And now, Lincoln takes power. He looked at his economic papers of his nation, and watched as the line on the graph grew higher and higher and higher. A smile spread accross his eyes, but then looked at the title of the graph. He had mistakenly pulled ou the unemployement rate. He new this was not good, and rose from his seat.
"DA! We must provide jobs for our people! And I have the greatest idea! We will construct a massive fleat of wargoing vessels, that which will outnumber our higher up, England. This Navy will consist of only the greatest of technology! Send ambassadors to Japan to bargain for ship technology, since we have reports of a new design they are working on. For my first term, I shall update all of American military strength to that of any nation in the world. Rase funding of 'Project Air-Denser' 70%! We will be dipping into our surpluss, but I believs it will have lasting affects. Also, what is this word Propellar that I here? Some myths about flying horses? Pump that research up too!"
Lincoln could already see it, his nation rising to a world power in fron of his eyes.

uknemesis May 04, 2002, 12:49 PM Das, I never said that the bump on the head really did change him... Read on...
********************************************
Spartacus grabbed the doctor, and hauled him into a side room.
"What the hell has happened to Prince Alexander?!"
"President Alexander, you mean. Well, the bump on the head could possibly have caused amnesia, as we know his plans to rule the world stemmed from his feeling of inferiority to the Double and now Trinity Alliance. Perhaps amnesia made him forget why he hates Russia, Germany and Britain, and so he looks at them in a new light, and maybe even the world. But another explanation is his conscience has caught up with him, maybe he faked this to allow him to change back into the image of his father rather than a tyrant without being humiliated. Another explanation is that he is faking it to lull others into a false sense of security so he can strike at his enemies when they least expect it, but this is unlikely as he would be unable to pass the mental examinations I just conducted while in that state of mind. The final explanation is that he got bored with being a tyrant, and wants to change. The first or second seem the most likely to me. But it seems for now at least, we have a great leader once more, the image of his father, not a tyrant."
Spartacus nodded, and then slipped back out of the room.
He found Alexander unable to comprehend why no other nation had acknowledged his change, and none had offered him any deals.
Finally he heard about a message from the Peruvian leader to the leader of Rome.
"I hope that Benevolenza will accept, the Toulon Pact needs to be strengthened, and then we can trade more with the new nation." Alexander glanced at Spartacus.
He's getting really upset that no one seems to be taking him seriously, Spartacus thought. Poor sod, he doesn't understand that generations of hatred can't be undone by one bump on the head, fake or otherwise.
"How is the modernisation programme going?" Alexander asked for the third time in an hour. He was excited about making Greece a world power by peace and trade rather than war.
"Okay, but no one seems to be offering the raw materials we would need." Spartacus realised that maybe it was because he was bored that Alexander did this, it seemed he enjoyed the new challenge of the political battlefield.
"Anyone welcomed Greece as a democracy or congratulated me on winning the election yet?" Alexander asked hopefully.
"None yet sir, but I'm sure there will be some." Spartacus now thought that it might be long term amnesia, Alexander was getting as excited as a child might at the prospect of being a world power.
But thank god he was an intelligent child, Spartacus thought. Cause I don't want an immature child in charge of the nation!

Sixchan May 04, 2002, 01:15 PM Sanford looked at the Greek intelligence reports on his desk. He too was wondering whether it was really a change, and he was very confident that it wasn't. However, because of the opportunity it presented by lulling Alex into a false sense of a false sense of security, he decided to play along
From: Prime Minister Sanford

I hope you are well, Alexander, and that the bump on your head is healing fast.

Next, he turned to his American Intelligence report.
"Hmm, I can't let British naval superiority be threatened." he thought. He called in his domestic advisor.
"Inform the shipyard workers that they will be getting more orders. Also, increase their wages sixpence for each completed ship."
"Yes, Prime Minister" Replied the Advisor before he walked out.
Sanford retired to his bedroom, very tired.

DISPATCH TO AMERICA: I suggest that you recognize creation of Peru - a new democracy out of territory reigned by Aztec absolutism which is direct opposit to your government.

uknemesis May 04, 2002, 01:41 PM Alexander woke up with the mother of all hangovers. And he hadn't even touched alcohol.
He walked to his study, then collapsed into the chair, calling for something to relieve his headache.
The doctor reported that still no decent headache medicines were available, but maybe a shot of vodka would help.
Alexander downed it, and began to feel the affects of it, deadening his sense of pain.
This new him had cost him a lot of pain to make, but he decided it had been worth it. He had been mortified when he had visited a nursery and a young child had asked him when he was going to kill the damned Russians. It had shaken him, and made him look at what he had become.
A tyrant persuading his people into hating other nations, and a warmongering general.
He knew he was skilled on the battlefield. Why did he need to prove it? Why start a global war because he wanted more power? His father's lessons had flooded back to him, and he had resolved to change.
But that meant the humiliation of admitting he was wrong. And no matter how much Alexander had decided to change, he wasn't going to be laughed at by his own people.
He had won the elections easily, as his tyranny had always been popular due to his media management, and the media treated him kindly now in reward for him letting them finally be free.
So now he was the President, and he felt good about that. But that fall had been more realistic that he had imagined it would be. Out cold for 5 minutes! He touched the bump on his head, recoiling at the pain that doing so caused.
He glanced at the report from England, and mentally thanked Sanford. It would make his new status more legitimate, and he looked forward to the challenge of the political arena. It would be hard to forget his old prejudices, but even this small note showed him that they weren't as bad as he thought.
He decided to exchange the new metal ore his scientists had discovered but couldn't work out how to extract from the ore. Aluminium, he thought it was called. With their factories, maybe the British could work out how the hell it could be used.
[aluminium is extracted from its ore by electrolysis, after being molten, so it is beyond Greek technology to extract it, and possibly Britain's, until electricity is discovered]
Alexander just hoped that Britain would accept the deal. If not, it would have to be the Athenian wines and the Spartan gold that would be exchanged for this tin.
He intended to have all of his ships painted with it, including the new ironclad that he had just authorised the production of, the only metal ship in the fleet. And his flagship.
He looked out the window, and for the first time since his father died, actually appreciated the birds singing.
**********************************************
Sixchan May 04, 2002, 01:48 PM Aluminium, eh?
Okay Alex, you've got yourself a deal!
uknemesis May 04, 2002, 01:48 PM Alexander had already ordered his chief architect to brighten up the palace by removing the old poor quality windows and to prepare them for new ones, if the British deal went through.
He read the Indian despatch, and welcomed it as yet another boost to his influence on the world stage.
"Send a reply thanking them, and ask whether they have anything to trade. We have some of the new rifles from the Spartan Military Works that they may be interested in, as that factory is known throughout the world for its quality products. Or maybe they would be more interested in this aluminium stuff, or some wine or gold? Or cash, if they require it. Just do anything to get them to trade with us!" Alexander told his Foreign Minister.

Mr. President, it's great to see you still in power, and wow, what a marvelous change, Alexander. Although I am not happy with your response to the S. American crises, I will let that detail slip due to all the bad publicity I am getting from it, due in part by my predisesor. As for trading, I heard you have a supply of Aluminum you are already splitting two ways, do you think it can go three? My scientists have already begun a small inspection of this element, but need more of it. I would be happy to trade either cotton of lumber for it. If not, I'm sure my nation could use some wine :). If you need any support on your recent revolution, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hello again Sanford! Thank you for the congratulations. Now, I want to start something Washington never did, a trade route with the UK. I understand you have surpluss of coal, as of I do too. What I could really use, though, is that tin. I would be happy to supply you with lumber, cotton, and/or dairy products. I'll be looking forward to your reply.
Lincoln observed the charts of his Imperial Navy budget and cost. The previous budget for peacetime building of the Navy was $1200 a week. Lincoln raised it to $200,000 a week, and teh charts showed it still wasn't enough. The cost was $250,000 a week for the size of Navy he wanted. He needed a way to boost income, and he hadn't a clue...Just then, his new DA walked in, named Roosevelt. he spoke:
"Mr. President, our colonies in the southare growing restless, the unemplyment rate in that region is drastcly high. We beeter create some jobs or -"
"O.k., heres the plan." lincoln interrupted, "Explored the Andes that is ours, and see what kind of minerals you can find. Create mines for workers. And in the Brasilia plane, start fariming and rasing cattle. This may help our economy just enough for us to build the Navy we want."
"Any word from Japan on the Navy technology?" Lincoln asked his secretary of state Colin Powell.
"No, Mr. President, no one has heard from the Shogun in a couple weeks."
"O.k,. Say, how would you like to go to Japan, to further negotiate trade routes and the technolgy. Offer anything we have. Just get that technology. I will schedule a frigate and three ironclads to accompany you tomorrow. Go get packed." Lincoln felt excited for the new peacetime efforst put forth by his government, He only hoped that this wasn't a temporary world peace time.
"MR. PRESIDENT! This just in. Our explorers in the Indian ocean have encountered an island, open for the taking! I suggest we dispatch Settlers to the island to make a naval base and a trading post!" Powell Yelled in excitement.
"Agreed. Dispatch tonight. What is the island called and where is it?"
"It's called Christmas Island, and is almost dead smack in the middle of the ocean!"
This was good, now he had a strong foot in Indian ocean for trading. This would help his trade with Persa, Greece, and India.

Since both of you plan on sending military aid to Peru I should warn you that any anti-Peruvian action committed by the soldiers of your government against Peru will in fact result in war between our nations. A war between our nations also means a war with Greece and France, and to a certain extent, Japan. I believe I can safely assume that neither of you want to be fighting 5 countries at once.
This is not a threat but an advisory and a promise. Should you choose to send in your troops and beat down Peru in the name of Aztec despotism our alliances will be forced to take action against such barbarism.
Take my advice: don't get involved.

King Righello beamed with pride. He had just recieved a dispatch from his Admiral Gadispucci, the head of the naval department, news of a part of Rome that had been neglected.
With the discoveries of other nations such as Replacable parts, Combustion, and Mass Production Rome was able to quickly cath up in technology immediately after a huge industrialization effort in the Taranto area. The Roman navy had launched 14 new ships, including 2 Righello class battleships, massive behemoths with several guns.
Rome was leading the naval wave and Righello was glad. The Atlantic fleet was based at Magnia, a city on the coast of Rome's South American colonies and the Mediterranean was based at Taranto.

It takes years for naval plans and technology to build such an enourmous fleet. You cant just say you have a huge fleet and top of the notch technology. I dont want to be a nag or anything, it's just that you have to spend money on research and time to build such ships. I've been working at it for a couple weeks now. "Yes sir, and some large breakthroughs in Flight!" His Science Advisor was ver excited.
"Well, what do they do?" Sanford had a little background knowledge, but he needed to know more.
"Well sir, Refrigeration will allow our ships to be at sea for up to a year by allowing us to freeze-dry foods and make them last indefinitely, and with Flight, we will be able to attack our enimies from the air!"
Amazing, thought Sanford. "Any civilian applications?"
"Of course, sir. Refrigeration will enable us to grow faster, because almost all food harvested can be frozen for use later!"
"What about flight?"
"We are someway off it, but one day, people will be able to fly all over the world for pleasue! A day at the beach for the average family will become two weeks in Florida!"

Absolutely. In the Italian Peninsula we have a severe deficiency of minerals and natural resources, so I would like to work out an exchange that would allow my government to set up some mining businesses, where about 40% of the minerals will go to Rome, while for the rest we can share the profits (70% for me, 30% for you). In exchange I will send some army generals to train your troops and some naval engineers to develop your naval prowess. Also, we would happily demonstrate the technologies of Steam Power, Nationalism, Medicine and Sanitation to the Peruvian government for the mines.
We have our coffee, cotton and sugar in our colonies as well as the cocaine which has been rather well developed for use in Roman medical science.
I hope you'll accept my mining proposal. Unfortunately this will all have to wait until the Peruvian Republic's independence is assured as it is quite possible our mines to be damaged in war.

wilboman May 04, 2002, 03:50 PM The Shogun hated this! Always he was otherwise detained when important things happened! But this time it was good. He had been exploring, and he had discovered many important things about his vast South Atlantic island colonies. They were teeming with resources of all descriptions. He had also gone North, to the new colonies, and overseen the consecration of the first church in Vancouver.
And finally, in the south Pacific, he had visited the port where his latest naval vessel was being built in the deepest of secrecy. With his Engineers having discovered a way of harnessing the natural forces contained within Electricity, he could now build ships that could move silently under water, powered by batteries. It was a very happy Shogun that returned to his Palace in Kyoto, and a very annoyed one that stormed out of his office a few seconds later.
"Can't the world PLEASE stand still for one BLOODY second?! " he roared to his secretary, who just sighed. This had happened before.

Congratulations on your elections, mr. President!
I hope you will be able to forget past tension between our two great nations, but I'm afraid I can't trade you my Fearnothing technology. It is only in the testing stages, and I'm not quite sure I wish to release it yet. Besides, we seem to be on two sides of the same problem: Peru.

I agree. We need a measure of time.
We also need a decision on how fast you can get up-to-date. For example, you can only haul yourself out of an age and into the next by trade, research, or theft of technology.
The Persians are a good example. They traded for tech from the Japanese.
Other nations, not mentioning names *coughZULU *, have taken rather fanciful leaps from late medieval to highly advanced tech for no apparent reason. This is just a little weird...
uknemesis May 04, 2002, 04:01 PM Alexander prepared his messages:
To: Lincoln
Due to no feedback from the Indians, we will gladly trade aluminium with you. But I cannot while you threaten my allies.
So I propose this:
You recognise Peru as an independent state, and supply Greece with lumber and cotton, in return for Greek aluminium and wine, plus gold to fund your naval expansion. How does this sound to you? I hope that a diplomatic solution can be found.
If however, you proceed with your invasion of a Toulon Pact member, you will cause a horrific war. I may have changed since my injury, but don't think I'm less of a man or less of a general because of it. I will not shrink from war, I will support my allies to the fullest.
I suggest you look to diplomatic means.

To: Conrad
I welcome you to the Toulon Pact, and hope that you will prosper. I can provide military aid for now, and will fully support you in any war. In return, I hope you have iron or other raw materials you can trade with us.
To: Righello
I welcome your decision to include Peru in the Toulon Pact, and now suggest it be renamed, possibly to the United Nations?

Subj: Renaming of Toulon Pact, Tech trading
I will have to say I disagree with the renaming of the Toulon Pact. There really is no need to as it is only 4 nations, but if it grows maybe the United Nations isn't so bad.
Unfortunately, Alexander, we already know the most up-to-date rifles avalialbe that came with Replacable Parts...if you have something that enhances them, I'd like to discuss it, but as of yet, I can't see how that would be a fair trade to Rome...
However, we are interested in securing the Adriatic for our own trade as many Roman people live on the Dalmatian islands and in Tyrolia (currently controlled by Germany). If you were to give us control of the Dalmatian islands and the Spartan rifle designs to sweeten the pot then we would give you our battleship technology.
The Toulon pact grows stronger as a name for self-determination and rightful peace. I would hope that all of the members of Greece would support my movement for a plebecite in Malta.
To: Members of the Toulon Pact
From: His Imperial Majesty, King Righello Benevolenza X
Subj: Bracing for war
With the planned American/Zulu/Iroquois invasion of our ally, the righteous Republic of Peru, I would suggest that all of us declare mobilization for war. Because of America's refusal to back down from the barbaric suppression of the Peruvian's right to self-determination we have, as I have said earlier, a "moral and written obligation" to defend the Peruvian people. I also ask our newfound freinds of the Trinity alliance to aid Peru, as there is no excuse for attempting to destroy a Republic with such good-natured roots.
The Toulon pact completely backs it's ally of Persia and no threats from the depraved North American alliance will defy them their right to govern themselves.

To the born-again President Alexander of the free and democratic nation of Greece
Have you thought any further about teaching us how to grow and make wines? A prompt response would be gratefully accepted.
I'm also intrigued by your new mineral, Aluminium. I believe we may have just the technique we need to extract it, and my researchers have already got some great ideas about utilization. If you have any left over for my research, would you please let me know?
I'm glad to see we're on the same side in Peru, and I wish you luck in your work on modernising your homeland.
In breathless expectation of your reply,
Shogun Sony Nintendo, Emperor of Japan
uknemesis May 04, 2002, 04:56 PM Alexander spoke quickly to the Japanese ambassador.
"We will gladly give you aluminium, I think we can exploit the mines to be split four ways, between Greece, Britain, Japan and possibly America or another nation if they go to war with us. It may make the mines exhaust faster, but by that time I am confident Greece will have found another deposit in that resource rich area. So here is my proposal about aluminium: you give us the technology so we can exploit our aluminium, and we will give you the aluminium ore so you can have alumium too. Then we will both be happy, as we will both have alumium, which studies show might be a light and durable alternative to steel."
The ambassador noted it down to be sent back to Japan for consideration.
"And as for your wines, we offer the technology and a crate of 1805 Athenian wine, one of the best ever years, gold and diamonds, in return for this new cool-box thing that keeps food fresh."
The ambassador looked shocked that Alexander should know about the new technology, but noted it down.
"Never underestimate the Hoplite's intelligence gathering." Alexander grinned at the ambassador. "But as long as you're on side, you have no need to fear them."
***********************************************
TO: Righello
We would welcome aid in our naval programme at the cost of the Dalmation Islands. I have realised that our Spartan rifles, while still being the deadliest sniper rifles in the world, are no longer the cutting edge of technology. But I consider those Islands alone worth enough for our proposal.
And if you were to help us upgrade our Spartan factories to produce these new "machine guns" that you have, by giving us the technology, I am sure Greece would back you in any land claims you have, such as Malta.
***********************************************
uknemesis May 04, 2002, 05:18 PM Das or someone, can you list what is required to make the latest weapons, such as battleships etc? Cause I need to know what resources I have to trade for!
***********************************************
Alexander looked at the Defence Minister with a smile.
"You mean these things are invulnerable to infantry?!"
"Not quite, they can be destroyed by rockets or artillery, or grenades down the hatch in our latest tests. And they are slow, unreliable and not too good at crossing most terrain. But with a few years research, it is possible we could be looking at a viable weapon."
"Increase funding immediately. And while the Spartan works is changing to produce the latest infantry and artillery weapons, also expand the factory under that guise. And then make the new area able to build these machines when they are finally produced."
"But sir, we don't know if the research will lead to a useful weapon! And it will take years to produce a decent prototype!"
"It's a risk I'm willing to take. I want a factory ready to produce them as soon as we are able to produce strong "tanks" as I shall call them."
"What about our naval power?" Spartacus intervened.
"We will increase the Athenian Naval Yard, ready to produce the battleships that Rome will hopefully help us build. Also, I want any battleships we make to be fitted with fridges if the Japanese accept our offer, and painted with the tin paint. Plus, if we can exploit this aluminium, I want a new destroyer class to be built out of them. We must not fall behind any nation! Defence Minister, I want plans to update the Greek Army and Navy with machine guns, artillery, battleships, destroyers and later, if we ever manage to make viable ones, those "tanks"! I plan to lead the most up to date forces I can if we end up in a war!"
"Sir, aren't you jumping the gun a bit? We haven't even got the technologies from Japan and Rome yet!" Spartacus reminded him.
"But I want plans for if we manage to!"

CONRAD May 04, 2002, 05:40 PM General Conrad would soon no longer be a general, but elected leader of the Peruvian people. He was certain he would win, for the people loved him and his efforts to make Peru free. More victories for the Peruvians would come, for he had sent people to the Aztec Province of Ecuador, and the area directly east of Peru to preach the ideals of a south american country free of Aztec rule. With the advance of nationalism from Rome, a Peruvian victory was even more certain. Aztland could never control Peru when the people were so filled with a desire for independance.

I am concerned about our stance in Peru. Have we even heard anything out of the Aztec government since the revolt? This all seems so fluid, and I recommend that we pursue a diplomatic solution if possible.
In Canada, Germany will make all of it's forces available to support the alliance should the Japanese colonies in British Columbia be attacked.

Hail King and President,
King Benevolenza, I have recently hosted your new ambassador at a state dinner here at Portlandia Palace. You are also invited to visit Berlin so that we might continue our friendship.
President Lincoln, congratulations on your recent election. My ambassador in Washington will be paying his regards to you within the next week. I hope that you will take a moment to see him.
I certainly understand both of your strong views regarding new democracies around the world. But in the case of Peru I hope that we all will show restraint, and allow for diplomacy to solve the problem.
There is a time and place for war, and Germany has never backed down from such events, but I feel that sparking a world war over an Aztec internal matter, when that government itself has not acted, would be an unfortunate event.

Hail ole' friend. I find myself in another crises. My Cuban islands are revolting due to terrorism. Is it too much to ask for assistance? If so, don't feel obligated to help.

Sbj: Cuba
See, this should be an example of continued terrorism. I knew the revolt in southern America would lead to others in the world. These Cuban terrorists have no right to revolt from our equal and free Democracy. Let this show everyone what misjudgment does.
Lincoln ordered for his last ironclad division (All others had been scrapped for steel and metal for the new fleet in the making) to be deployed to circle the eastern coast of Cuba to act as a blockade. He tolerated outside support in another country (Peru) but he would not tolerate it in his own nation. The 22nd and 41st rifle men were already in transports on thier way to Cuba. Lincoln also ordered for the bombardment of any terrorist facility in range of the ironclads and that is not risking any inocent people. The southern Florida had already encountered twenty frigates full of refugees that did not want to be in the battle ground and were loyal to America. The Transport would reach there in two days, and the ironclads in 1. This would be a quick and fast revolution.
"Sir, we have begun building the Battleships and Destroyers you ordered in all coastal harbors. We are rpoducing three battleships a week (OOC: IS THAT LOGICAL?) and they are of the highest technology, besides the refrigeration, which could be added on later." Lincoln thought for a while. With is factories not being in operational or have the equipment in them yet, how ould he power his cities in time? Companies take to long to finsih what they start. America will have to supply the factories and equipment before hand. The company owned-factories wouldn't be operational for another two years. Fuel combustion was a great asset, and should not be settled into the hands of small companies anyways. But, Lincoln had already promised them ,and would give them the technology within the next year, when they would need to start to make the necessary adjustments for the equipment.

I am neglected to here your decision of my offer. Would thy be interested in any other of American goods in exchange for the refrigeration technology? If so, please reply.

Subj: Battleship designs, user manuals, and the Roman Machine Gun.
I know it might seem strange for me to ask for such useless territory such as the Dalmatian islands in exchange for such valuable schematics, but let me clarify: The fact that the Adriatic is now completely controlled by the Roman Kingdom and Navy allows our Mediterranean fleet much, much more flexibility. Also, the battleship designs allow the Greek navy's efficiency to skyrocket and makes our combined Mediterranean fleets enough to dominate the entire sea.
I would like to hold a summit at Zara I., one of the largest islands in our new province of Dalmatia and it has the new capital of the province, Realizzazione. I will have a bottle of some of our finest wine, an 1826 Tuscanian red Chanti. Hopefully we may both enjoy it. I will carry with me the blueprints of the Righello class battleship, Venenziano. I will also allow for the publication of user manuals at 250 Lira a piece (equalling approximately .50 American dollars) times how ever much you want, which will be deposited in the Roman treasury.
It would seem that none of the territory you own contains coal. We could give you some from our colonies in South America in exchange for your research in Tanks and some of the specific details on the development of Roman machine guns. It would allow your battleships to run much, much cheaper than some of the new petrol battleships developed by the Americans and you wouldn't have to buy the tech.
Happy Hunting.

Select Article from the Roman newspaper Il Manifesto:
Southern Aztland Overrun by Well-Trained Roman Speed Troops
By Ferdinando Feduccini
For the first time in many years the Roman army has made a grand victory in it's battles. After the Aztec failure to recognize Peruvian independence, King Righello Benevolenza X enacted "Operation: Libertà" which committed nearly 100,000 Roman troops. The weak, leaderless, technologically backwards and unprepared Aztec garissons were quickly taken capture.
"Operation: Libertà" Was a move against the Southernmost part of the Aztec empire. Supported largely by cavalry and dragoon machine gun fighters, the Roman armies were able to move extremely quickly across the flat, rolling plains.
"Their lack of communication played a huge part," General Orlando said. "Because there was no way for one garisson to tell the other it was in danger of attack, each one was caught completely off gaurd."
Roman casualties amount to approximately 10,200 with 329 from disease. Over 40,000 Aztecs were taken prisoner.
Due to this great success, Rome is now able to directly help their Peruvian allies in their war for independence by having a common border.

the diciple May 04, 2002, 11:11 PM After extensive study in America, the Aztec king returns to his home with military supplies. Shortly after returning home, many atrocities happened in the south. Diciple quickly orderd for the training of his military, in the fasion that the Americans and Iroquios taught him. They were now upgraded to weak machine guns, but with a lot of them. Within three days, the training was sufficiant with 80,000 troops (they had all had gun experience before) and marched towards the south. Within 48 hours, The Aztecs had attacked recently gained-roman land. Ten-thousand troops were used for teh attack on Rome's colonies. Fifty thousand troops marched towards the northern Peru, and created a trench-filled and well mounted defense border seperating the country. Aztec quickly put down the rebels and armed Peur officials within the regained territoryand stripped teh citizens of all harmful weapons. The other twenty thousand men remained hidden in Aztec Terrirtoy.
Aztlan Reporting Journals Reports:
The Armies of our beloved king soon struck a counter strike agains the disastrous Romans. With the power of guns, our warriors have managed to gain half of what we lost to the peru back. After the horrbile loss of lives and land, the military also struck the heart of the romas, their colonies. Taking one small villages and turning it into a military base was the only vicotry that came of that. Stay posted for more of this terrible war.
To Perusian Rebels and the Romans
from the diciple
We, teh Aztecs hate to shed more and mroe of our own blood. The attacks that we just committed were unavoidable, but future attacks can be. Here is my settlement. We grant Perusian territory, a little more then you wanted. And we take back all land lost to teh Romans, grant a small present we to them if they accept this deal. Then we will grant a right of passage of only the strip of Aztec land connecting your two lands, that means military rights to come through also, just avoid cities. This, I think, can be negotiated before anymore bloodshed! Stop the violance!
wilboman May 05, 2002, 03:00 AM ONCE AGAIN OUT OF CHARACTER
Ok, ok. Fair enough that we make the leap from muzzle-loading rifles with Minié balls to Gatling guns (breechloading, copper cartridges). This is fantasy, after all. But let's get one historical thing straight. Machine guns are NOT hand-held! The technology for mass-production of hand-held machine-guns didn't come until about WWI in the real world... That's just a little far-fetched, no?
Leaping from pre-Civil War rifles to sub-MG's in no time at all?
Nobody's even declared the development of bolt-action rifles yet!

Nintendo leant back and played with the latest offering from his scientists, the grammophone. Beautiful music streamed from it as his head scientist came in, looking very pleased with himself indeed.
"Lord, one of our scientists, mr. Mini, has developed a new design, based on the Gatling guns that seem to be all the craze in the modern world. It has a better rate of fire than any of the other guns around at the moment, as well as being smaller. It can be pushed by only one man, and even picked up and carried for short distances. It's really that light. No more of those massive behemoths that need to be pushed around and pulled by horses."
"Oh, good. This may prove very versatile indeed. Put them into production immediately, and start forming squads to man them. And we need a name. How about Mini-Gun, in deference to it's inventor?"
"Mini-Gun it is, sir!"
Jason The King May 05, 2002, 08:20 AM "Sir, our three battleships are built. They are faster and more versatile then any ship on the globe. We have loaded it with four propellars, the newwest technology, and fuel combustion engine. It has room for 2,000 people on board, but only needs a crew of 100. "
"Great, send them to New York. We will show the people what their taxdollars are paying for. What about that Christmas island in the Indian?"
"We have totally colonized it and built a small port. It lacks food, though sir."
"Send it food, for gods sake, along with one of the battleships. Now go!"
Toasty May 05, 2002, 08:23 AM Righello had realized that the Roman army was not a very viable force. A surprise attack is bound to succeed, but it was rebounded so shortly...
He was, however, heartened by Orlando's news. With their newer-developed breech-loading rifles they were able to push all alon the Northwest coast, bypass the set up Aztec defenses, and encircle the 10,000 troops that were stationed there and taking all of them prisorner with few casualties. The Roman army now took up positions along the Amazon river for defense and to wait for aid from their Peruvian allies.
Suddenly, there was a gentle tapping on his office door, and his military advisor, Hadrian, came in. He sat down and presented Righello with some statistic papers.
"Orlando is doing quite a job," he began. "For the duration of this war, he's captured over 50,000, including many of the American tacticians, and killed over 10,000. The line along the Amazon should be able to hold well in the Jungle."
"Then why are these papers demanding more troops?"
"Casualties happen, and we only have about 75,000 troops remaining out of our original 100,000."
"Aren't you aware that the 100,000 alone is more than half the Roman army? In fact, the Aztec chief stated himself that there were only 20,000 remaining in the depths of Aztland."
"There are over 50,000 entrenched on the Peruvian border. In order to help our Peruvian allies we-"
"You know as well as I do that Peru doesn't matter in this war as much as success on our front does. Yes, they deserve their independence, but I'm more interested in claiming my own land then trying to get the Peruvians more. It's a fact of war. By the time they do matter, the 50,000 will probably have dropped to 10,000 as the others went to fight us, so it doesn't matter anyways."
Hadrian grimaced. Had his leader become so jaded that securing land was more important than helping their allies as much as possible?
Righello plopped in his chair. "We owe them naval and army tacticians anyways. Send them those, the mining corporations, and put in 20,000 troops. I hope you're happy because now we only have 70,000 to defend our homeland."
Hadrian didn't respond. He saluted Righello, and walked out of his office.

Northern Alliance peace troops have no place in Aztlan, as they are not peace keeping troops but troops that will fight only Rome and the righteous Peruvians. If anything, a neutral alliance such as the Trinity alliance should be kept as peace-keepers, but there is no such thing as North American peace keepers in this instance.
The American government dares to spout out such slanderous filth as calling us militaristic? We called for an end to the standoff in Europe, for god's sake! We have constructed for nothing but peace for all people's, and Aztlan stands in the way. We have an obligation to secure Peru's right to self-determination.
We are fighting to force the Aztlan government to recognize Peru and will only stop when Peru asks us to. We are not militaristic, we are fighters for freedom; Aztlan is a despotic government attempting to force a self-proclaimed republic to submit to their rule. They are the villains, not us, and the North American alliance aligns itself with these forces of barbarism in helping Aztlan. Any statement saying that we are unnaccepting of peace is a folly.
I ask for the members of the Toulon Pact and my friends across the globe to aid in saving Peru from the barbaric Aztecs. The North Americans only want to secure their power base; they are agressive and want to squash minorities and force them to accept their rule as they are attempting to do in Peru and now in Cuba. They are a danger to the world, and if they are allowed to continue in this we will have to face their wrath later once their navy is well developed. There is no denying this; if it is not now, it will be later.

Conrad elected as Chairman
In what was a landslide victory, Conrad has been elected Chairman of Peru for a 5-year term. The former General gave a stirring speech, introducing an intense program of modernization and infastructure & military buildup. Conrad applied the new ideals of nationalism by asking the citizenry to not work for this program for him, but work for the program for the Peruvian people. The Peruvian reasearchers are working to extend the ideals of this program to make a theory for a Peruvian brand of communism.
In this occasion, the new Peruvian flag was raised for the first time:

uknemesis May 05, 2002, 05:30 PM Alexander was shocked at the events while he had been on holiday.
"War between Britain and India?! We will allow India into the Toulon Pact, on the condition that they make whatever concessions to the Trinity Alliance that are needed to bring peace. I will not go to war with the Trinity Alliance, and if that means not letting India into the Toulon Pact, so be it! What the hell was that Indian moron thinking, anyway?!"
Spartacus shrugged.
"And as for the Peru situation, since peace is seeming to be made with the Aztecs, that is sorted. But if America attacks our ally, we will fight alongside them! Unfortunately, our army and navy are too out of date, we need those damned proposals!"
He wrote them out once more:
To: Righello
Okay, how about this? Dalmation Islands for the battleship plans, as has happened, and we will purchase 1000 manuals for our ship yard and captains, and then we will give you our research into tanks in exchange for Roman designs to those machine guns that their troops carry in five man squads. They may be hard to carry around, but they are great for defensive operations. We already have the designs for the latest artillery and breech-loading rifles, the best offensive weapons, but the South American war would be a defensive one, so we would need these guns. So I propose that you give us the designs to the machine guns and help us modernise one section of the Spartan Military Works to produce these. Then we will give you our research into tanks. Be warned, I think it will take all nations of the world many years to finalise a tank design, but possibly if we work together on this, we might be able to beat them by a month or so. Also, we will share with you refrigeration if we get it from the Japanese, so long as you don't support the Indians. In return, we would like the coal. That will be decided pending the technology exchange with Japan.
Alexander grinned once more. Now Spratan Military Works were huge, one section being built to produce tanks when they were finished, one section producing artillery, one section producing rifles, one making guns for ships, and now one would make machine guns! And his Athenian Royal Dockyard would be able to produce the new battleships, and install electricity and fridges in them! And it would be able to build smaller ships, known as destroyers! The expansions were creating huge numbers of jobs, getting enough people off of the dole that he could now consider his dream:
A national health service. He wanted to see how it worked, so he would have to request a visit to British hospitals. He was excited about this, the British people boasted a lot about their ability to get free health care. And now his people would have it!
The Greek Army and Navy would be updated within a few years, and Greece would be prosperous!
Oh, and if anyone else has proposed deals with me, please say them again! I went out for one day, and it's been hard to catch up!
To: Shogun Nintendo(is that right?!)
I look foward to our exchange of aluminium and electricity, I have already authorised the first shipment to you. I hope you will send me electricity soon.
I can't remember exactly what I offered for refrigeration, but I know it was wine, the tech for wine, and some other stuff, I think diamonds or platinum. I offer this once more.
And as for your raw materials, Greece has a vast gold mine, and would be willing to pay handsomely for the raw materials to help us in our economic revival.
To: Egypt

uknemesis May 05, 2002, 05:50 PM Alexander selected from the roster his best units, the ones equipped with the latest technology Greece could offer.
The Presidential Guard Division, he selected. The Greenjacket Division, or te Greek Riflemen Division as it should be known, and the Hoplite Division, made up of people from his Hoplites, and fanatically loyal to him.
Those three divsions were equipped with the latest Spartan rifles and artillery, and were elite troops, the best in Greece. They would be sent to South America in the event of any further trouble there, Alexander decided. He just hoped the Spartan factory could be upgraded quickly so that the divisions could also have the machine guns, however bulky they were. They would be goof in defence, he was certain.
His navy was another matter. The ironclad had been scrapped immediately, a disgrace to Alexander. The wooden fleet was out of date, and had been given to the Merchant Navy. Now he had no fleet, except for transports. That would have to change, with the help of Rome, he knew. But until then, his transports would rely on Roman support to get to South America if needed.
Well, if Rome wanted help there, then Rome would ask for them, he mused. And if Rome asked for them, Rome could damned well get them there!
He turned his attention to the worsening situation elsewhere.
"I think there should be a world summit." he said to Spartacus.

Alexander liked the idea of olympics, and finally Greece would host an important summit.
Now he turned his attention to the Trinity Alliance. His dream was to see the Trinity and Toulon alliances merge into a United Nations, a powerful body which could sort out international disputes. But it was a dream, he knew.

Toasty May 05, 2002, 06:05 PM "Communism in Peru?!," Righello yelled at Hadrian, slamming the report on his desk. The Peruvians had said a Republic! Rome could not be found supporting a Communist nation, much less a rogue one. That damned Conrad!"
Righello quickly calmed down. "Have we got any of the machine guns to the Amazon yet?"
"Yes, my leige, we have had 60 pieces of equipment with sufficient ammunition for 18 months."
"Thank god. We'll stop the Aztecs cold in the Amazon and force them to accept peace with our holdings."
Righello paused for a moment..."What of the 20,000 troops we had sent to Peru? Are they in Lima yet?"
"Yes...but they're rather useless. The miners have begun construction and the tacticians have gotten to work on training the Peruvian forces. But we can't find a use for them."
"I want them protecting my mines," Righello said. "Turn them into military bases if we have to. The fact that Conrad turned communist and stained Rome's diplomatic stance makes me quite wary of him. Tell him he will become a republic or Rome will take over all of the mines we have set up peacefully or militarily."
Hadrian wrote it down on his legal pad.
"The Greeks...I'm rather concerned. If they continue to expand at such a large rate they might over-stretch their economy and suffer from an economic collapse. God knows the Dinai is almost as bad as the Zubu....send Alexander a memo but also tell him I agree to his tech trading proposal...Rome and Greece should become the closest of allies."
Hadrian began to write furiously, trying to keep up with Righello's writings.
"Also, tell Admiral Gadispucci that 2 more Righellos are expected by Fall of '84. I also want 6 new cruisers for the Atlantic fleet."
Hadrian nodded, still trying to keep up.
"India should know that under no circumstances will Rome fight with her against the Trinity alliance. Rome has worked too hard for peace in Europe to ruin it all in the name of Peruvian communists."
Hadrian scribbled so hard he ripped the papers. "Damn."
"Got all that?"
Hadrian nodded, saluted, and exited Righello's office.

Also, would you be interested in purchasing the designs for the Tunisino? The Venenziano was largely made for Atlantic combat while the Tunisino is a ship designed specifically for the Mediterranean as it is our Mediterranean flagship. The Aztec proposal was not reasonable. It was demanding the retreat of all my forces from land that was occupied at the time in exchange for some minor territory gratuities, with a right of passage between me and Peru. That is hardly reasonable, it cheated me out of land I had taken. My proposal is based on how the front lines are now and if he is smart he will accept. If not, he will have to face the combined might of Rome, Greece, and France. We also waited for the Aztlan government to recognize Peruvian independence, that did not happen within HALF A YEAR (game time).
I have made no stance whatsoever in Cuba, but I should warn you that my Atlantic fleet with 12,000 men is based at Aruba, not very far away, and my Mediterranean fleet is ready and waiting with 3 committed Greek divisions plus over 90,000 troops at home. I can guarantee you that there will be a Roman liberation of Cuba should you choose to get involved in South America.
We will not disrespect the Roman citizens that have died and their now underprivelidged families because of your piteous demands. We, as a nation and as a people spit on your threats! Rome will fight for what land she has won in war.
If you want war, Washington, Rome and her allies will not back down from your challenge. We have worked too hard, lost too many, come too far to succumb to such idiocy. The Mediterranian fleet has left Taranto.

Fine, if you continue your aggresive acts, in which that we do not tolerate, we will not hesitate to use action in military, although we would very much like to avoid it. The Northern Alliance, for some time now, has accepted Peru as a nation, i.e. the peace proposal. It is you that considers to become hostile. Many Aztecs lives were lost in your unreasonably hostility, for your own gains of more territory. You talk about the despotism in Aztlan, think about your Monarchy, so-called King. I'll give you a taste of your own medice. Lincoln Out.
Lincoln looked again at the reports on his desk. He was fairly happy about the Cuban situation. only two american marines had K.I.A. and the situation was already over. There were a few terrorists hide outs, but their false reports were humerous, as did the Cuban people more then welcomed the U.S. military. Now that the military has withdrawn, all marines have been dispatched in South America. 20,000 men from Cuba, plus an additional 120,000 that landed there (combination of American, Aztec, and Iroquios troops) mounted to a 140,000 well trained N.A. miltary riflemen and machine gun personell. Then, the abandoned bases in Peru escalated it into 180,000 men assault, largest in world history. Half of the men went to march into the Roman Colnies that, under the peace proposal, rightfully belonged to aztlan. Lincoln, very stubborn, still played a defensive role. He didn't want to be the aggressor, but knew that such time probably will come. The troops, over mass numbers, quickly overthrough the Roman Agressors in four cities closest in land to Peru, though making sure not to cross into Peru territory. These cities held a huge fiest in that now they belonged to a greater and equal government, The New Aztec Democracy , set up and agreed upon by American, Iroquios and Aztec officals. Lincoln finally was happy about the situation in the south, due to that the people were finally happy.

The left wing buerecrats were outraged over there loss, and began bringing up claims of election rigging. They brought up as many supporters and military vessels as they could to take back the house...
... By force if necessary.
But there plan Backfired, and as many of the left wing supporters fled and defected to the NBB leaving the left's with no claim to the house, many of there supporters were arrested, and put on trials, while there leader "Xiao Pad Hakatu" fled to Northen China, under communistic ideals.

Toasty May 06, 2002, 04:58 AM Rome dispatch to the world on the war in South America
All efforts by Rome to get a fair peace treaty have fallen through because of American insecurity. The fact that they, so afraid that their ally might be weakened, have attempted force against our rightful land, leaves no excuse. 60,000 Roman troops, together with the 60,000 Greek troops landed in south America, and not Cuba out of respect for American sovreignity. With both the Mediterranean and Atlantic fleet in Brasil, adding the 12,000 Roman marines, that means the numbers in Roman-held South America amount to 232,000. With the expansion of Roman naval industry 3 Righello battleships are being built and 75 new machine guns arrived in South America with ammunition supplies for 18 months.
Over 120,000 Roman troops engaged in a sudden strike across the Aztec plain, reaching the Peruvian border and encircling the 90,000 Azto-American troops. 55 machine guns were set up in the border along with the Spartan works artillery. The remaining 80 remain along the Amazon river defense line.
There are now 112,000 Roman troops avaliable in South America to fight your remaining 90,000. That means that for every 3 soldiers you have, I have 4. I would suggest you give me my original peace borders.

To: President Alexander
From: His Imperial Majesty, King Righello Benevolenza X
Subj: War
Unfortunately war could not be avoided and Rome maintain her honor for this. America has chosen to attack Rome and we have practically resolved the issue. Your Greek divisions have been fighting very well and we thank you for them.
uknemesis May 06, 2002, 05:20 AM TO SPARTACUS
FROM ALEXANDER
I hear you led my divisions expertly, well done. I am unhappy that I couldn't be there to lead my troops, but the Olympics were being held, as you well know. Please send a report via Righello on how many troops survived.
TO RIGHELLO
FROM ALEXANDER
Can you please pass on the information about how many Greek casualties there were from Spartacus? And next time Greece is in a war, I vow to lead my troops. Thank you for transporting our troops, and I hope that our latest deals can be finalised.
With the Greek Army's 25 divisions now at full tech apart from machine guns due to the Spartan Military Works working overtime, I am confident that Greece can become a powerful ally to you. Also, the Greek Navy awaits the arrival of at least one battleship, and the Yard has begun to produce destroyers. It has also begun its first battleship, as per the plans you brought to Athens with you.
Thanks again!
Alexander
uknemesis May 06, 2002, 05:33 AM I suggest that a number be imposed for the large etc things.
How about maximums of 30 divisions(600,000 men) for a huge land army, 25 divisions(500,000 men) for a large army, 20 divisions(400,000 men) for a medium army and 15 divisions(300,000 men) for a small army? Das should be the final judge on this, I think.
As for navy, how about maximums of:
20 carriers(when they are finally made), 25 submarines(when they are discovered by that navy), 25 battleships, 100 destroyers for a huge navy
15 carriers, 20 subs, 15 battleships, 75 destroyers for a large navy
10 carriers, 15 subs, 10 battleships, 50 destroyers for a medium navy
5 carriers, 10 subs, 5 battleships, 25 destroyers for a small navy
How about that? It would stop these stupid races for hundreds of battleships, forcing older models to be destroyed to make way for newer ones, as per the real world.
ie; my Greece has a large land army and a medium navy
That means it had 25 divisions, or 500,000 men in its army, and 10 carriers, 10 battleships, 50 destroyers, 15 subs and however many transports I want(they don't need to be regulated)
I know 20 carriers for a huge navy seems a large amount, but remember the strength of the allies by the end of WW2!
Nemesis
uknemesis May 06, 2002, 05:43 AM Alexander worried. He didn't have a navy, having scrapped all his old ships ready for new ones. If the American war continued, he didn't have any ships to defend his men with.
He had orders sent to Spartacus ordering him to leave South America as soon as peace was achieved, and also to leave if Rome declined a fair peace offer. To Alexander that meant anything that let Rome keep more than 50% of what she had taken.
1 battleship was due to be delivered from Rome soon, and possibly one more. The Yard was working overtime on a Greek battleship, one which would mount slightly larger guns from the Spartan works than the ones being sent from Rome, and larger than the other ones that Greece would build. This was to make it the most powerful battleship in the Greek fleet, capable of standing up to any battleship in the world. Then it could be his ship, his flagship.
So within a few months, he mused, he should have about 5 destroyers and 3 battleships. Not bad.
He drew up a five year plan for the introduction of 45 more destroyers and 7 more battleships. It would stretch the Yard, and maybe he would have to open another yard near the Spartan works, but it would be worth it. The Greek Navy would be up to date, at its maximum capability, and a force to be reckoned with.
And with the machine guns that would soon be produced in Sparta, he knew that the Greeks would no longer be a country to be pushed around.
Now he had to open a new hospital, part of his new National Health Service. He was proud of it, and had invited Sanford to dine with him that night as part of the Olympics, in a bid to learn more about how the British NHS worked. He desperately didn't want this to be a failure, and so needed to see how another country ran their NHS.
He dozed off in his chair.
