View Full Version : Is HoF going to "pay for access" ?

According to the new announcement that CFC and Apolyton are merging, there is a statement (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5269719&postcount=7) that bothers me.

Does this mean that the HoF is going to be "Pay for access" ?

'Cause, if it is, I'm taking off. 'Poly is mega-trouble.

I'm hoping that its just an April Fools joke but Superslug's statement in the last HoF update worries me (hoping he was just setting us up).

If it's true that Apolyton and CFC are merging, then I'm out of this forum. Under no circumstances will I take part in anything Apolyton is a part of, I'm sorry to say.

I have nothing against Apolyton, i'm not an attender of it, but sometimes it has interesting threads.

I'm always asking to myself how CFC gains money (i don't think the few banners can bring tons of money), i don't think the Staff can do all this work only on a voluntary base (if so, they're missionaries).

But, with all the appreciation for the Staff work, if i have to pay for participate on the HoF or in a GotM or SGotM, or for be a member, or else, i think i'll say a big farewell to this nice community.

I agree with Ozbenno, this can be an April's fool joke, but, if so it's coordinated... there's a Thunderfall post in CFC and a similar post in Apolyton, plus the Superslug post plus THIS.
The date is suspicious, but the posts are too, in the other side and a working new site can't be a joke.

It's for real, and I am definitely NOT going to have any part of this. Luckily, some of the other mods are with me on this, and we're starting up our own Civilization site. I'm going to move the Halls of Fame from here to there, and that won't cost anyone a dime.

Back in Civ3, I was mostly a Poly user (for AU), before coming here. In Civ4 Poly looks pretty dead in comparison, but maybe I just didn't notice any pay content.

Anyway, I think it's a great idea that you guys are moving on, so I hope we'll see everyone over at CPC!

My two cents... link (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5272339&postcount=264)

Hard to believe this isn't a joke... but in case it isn't, you can express your opinion in a poll here: poll (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=214758)

@Hawk: Click on the HOF link at CivJunction, and you'll find you're not going to have to pay for it.

This must be a joke, a very nice one though.

Well, I certainly hope this is an april fool's joke. If it's not, I guess I'll have to consider my options. Apolyton is not only the one of the ugliest sites on the web, but the navigation sucks, and finding anything of use there is an exercise in patience I'm not willing to endure. CFC is clean and easy to use.

If they're actually going through with this, and then are actually going to implement a pay-for-play model too, I'm expecting to see people staying away in droves. I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount of money for quality content, but I don't think anything involving Apolyton could qualify as such. I'd much rather see CFC stay on its own and implement a model similar to somethingawful, where a small fee gets you access.

This would be the equivalent of Mercedes merging with Kia. Sad.

I disagree. Specially as this is forum and people read these on different timezones / completely different days. They might not notice that it's 1.4th where/when joke was written. And also I've always thought that idea is about making one look like fool, like 'hey theres free for all birthdayparty at local bank, they give 10 $ deposit for every new customer and theres cake too'.

Edit: btw I didn't buy it, so its not that I'm annoyed because of I'm fooled but I disagree with the idea of this fooling.

Okay. It was revealed as a prank, and CPC was said to be a part of that prank. Farewell. The maturity level of everything involved with this sucked.

Bye.

Is that an admission of immaturity? :D

I'm admitting to being a large part of the whole joke. It's up to each person that wasn't involved to decide whether or not they find themselves victimized or amused (perhaps both).

Well hats off, I wouldn't have been fooled if not for your foreshadowing and rival site SuperSlug.

ditto for me. The whole superslug leaving because of mod level trouble fooled me too. Without that, I don't think I would have believed it.

The whole thing was pure genius. So, back on topic, where do I send my cheque for joining HOF? ;)

With the hint you gave a few days before and Rik's statements at CDZ last week almost had me fooled. Almost... ;)

A very well executed April Fool's prank. In particular, Ainwood's post over at CPC defending himself after being "attacked" for being greedy was pure genius. That was just about the only part of it that made it start to be believable for me.

Kudos all round to you guys! :goodjob:

wow. i missed the whole darn thing, been so busy i haven't read CFC for days, and mind you it's my home page!!! i might have even believed it for a while, with superslug's foreshadowing and CPC. i'm kinda glad i missed it

it's funny looking at it knowing from the start that it's not true, not having to have any doubts.
