View Full Version : Important question to Rhye:
Hitti-Litti Apr 01, 2007, 02:04 PM It looks like that CFC is splitting to two sides(unless this is the prank of the millenium...); CivJunction and CPC(Civilization Players Community). If CFC will be abandoned(hopefully not), in which forum will you continue your modding work? Or will you make your own?
I really want to know, and I think that others will too.
CivJunction is a merge of CFC and Apolyton, current mods have escaped to CPC.
Talkie_Toaster Apr 01, 2007, 02:09 PM I support a migration to CPC. The principal of the thing, you know? They can't just start making us pay for things with no prior consultation. It's not right.
Rhye Apr 01, 2007, 02:12 PM so this is not a joke?
Talkie_Toaster Apr 01, 2007, 02:13 PM Mods resigning? New site skeleton? Press releases? Lots of evidence to prove it true, I'm afraid.
Edungeon Apr 01, 2007, 02:20 PM And a lot of people crying....
mitsho Apr 01, 2007, 02:27 PM Well, sleep over it, tomorrow, on April, 2nd, the world will look brighter again. ;) I refuse to believe that until it's been proved tomorrow.
mick
Whitefire Apr 01, 2007, 02:41 PM I've seen some elaborate AF jokes online. In an MMO I played, the devs took the time to code a "release" that included many of the most requested, most horrible ideas players had come up with. It only lasted a few hours, but I can;t imagine the time they spent to do such a massive, temporary update.
I would definitely wait until tomorrow ;D.
Rhye Apr 01, 2007, 02:47 PM mods resigning are pretty scary. Either if genuinely believing in the change, or if part of the plot
Gunner Apr 01, 2007, 09:50 PM It just can't be true. At least thats what I keep saying over and over to calm myself down.
Talkie_Toaster Apr 02, 2007, 02:03 AM April 2nd. No big "HAHA We Fooled You" banner. This is a turn for the worse, my friends...
Phallus Apr 02, 2007, 10:04 AM I'm blissfully unaware of any events outside this forum. I don't think I have ever visited the main Civfanatics page. :D
Talkie_Toaster Apr 02, 2007, 12:55 PM April Fool :)

fearuin Apr 09, 2007, 06:37 AM Can somebody explain what the April Fool thing is? (Apart of a schemy joke). Spanish usually do this kind of jokes on December, 28th (Day of Innocents), not in April.
SadoMacho Apr 09, 2007, 07:30 AM The First of April was the pagan New Year. When Europe became Chritsian, New Year became the first of January. The Pagans became fools in the eyes of the growing christian mayority. In this way first of april became april fools day, and people could play practical jokes on any one and they couldn't get mad.
fearuin Apr 10, 2007, 06:23 AM Oh, I undestand it now, thanks. Our version, Day of Innocents it's pretty much the same, but it commemorates the day where the innocents were sacrified by Herodes III's order (because he heard from the Mages that Jesus was the Messiah, which was also a title for Jewish kings).
However, this takes in consideration that Jesus was born in 25th December, which is demonstrated to be false (this date was imposed by Roman Emperor Constantine because it coincided with the date of borning of Mithra, and the date of commemoration of the Sol Invictus, the state religion of Rome in that period).
kittenOFchaos Apr 10, 2007, 08:18 PM April Fools day is totally gay, that said I'm amazed by how many people were taken in.
So gay was it that I almost bailed from civfanatics in protest and I've been a member since Jan 2001.

Sorry, Europe becoming Christian has nothing to do with this... Check here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April%27s_Fools#Origin)
fearuin Apr 11, 2007, 04:43 AM The Dutch celebrate the 1st of April for other reasons. In 1572, the Netherlands were ruled by Spain's King Philip II. Roaming the region were Dutch rebels who called themselves Geuzen, after the French "gueux", meaning beggars. On 1 April 1572, the Geuzen seized the small coastal town of Den Briel. This event was also the start of the general civil rising against the Spanish in other cities in the Netherlands. The Duke of Alba, commander of the Spanish army could not prevent the uprising. Bril is the Dutch word for glasses, so on 1 April, 1572, "Alba lost his glasses". Dutch people find this joke so hilarious they still commemorate the first of April
So this may be the reason that April's Fool it's not celebrated in Spain. Duke of Alba was one of the "Greats of the Kingdom", the most powerful and richest nobles in the Spanish Empire. That war in the Netherlands was the death sentence of our Empire, so it's not matter of a joke, here.
Gaius Octavius Apr 11, 2007, 06:16 PM We've all migrated to FCF now...

Rhye Apr 12, 2007, 08:23 AM We've all migrated to FCF now...

(23 registered members......)
why, if I may ask?
Talkie_Toaster Apr 12, 2007, 10:41 AM Gaius, why?
It was a PRANK.
A cruel prank, admittedly, but not grounds to actually leave...
Gaius Octavius Apr 12, 2007, 05:18 PM Oh, we're not leaving... It's just another site with fewer restrictions and a different culture. I knew it was a prank, and I said so, but I like to keep the memory alive. I have continued to post new mods in the database here even after FCF was formed.
Okay, you want to know the biggest reason? I'm writing a silly story about the merger and there was no real place to post it here. :p
You should come and visit us sometime. We are actually going to try to get a good multiplayer system going and are seriously considering raffling off a free copy of BtS. (Have to be a member to be eligible, though! :D)
Rhye:
Yes, there're only 23 members, but we've only been around for 7 days, after all!
