joel's post about events has gotten me thinking about our future plans after this old version is polished.

For the first time I'm now thinking about making SotM-Rebirth for BtS because of the Events and other changes they've made. We'd have plenty of time to polish the old version and really flesh out a solid plan for the new one, giving Geo time for a better tech tree. ;)

Any thoughts on this approach?

edit - BtS is Beyond the Sword, the next announced expansion for CivIV. I don't recall when it's coming out.

I've been thinking along these lines too.
Especially the "corporations" stuff hinted at sounds like a must-have, not to mention some of these shiny graphics shown sofar. :mischief:

Btw, it seems you plan on merely polishing the current .23 version, and releasing it as is? No extensive changes like a tech tree for the moment?

This techtree I've started now will be much more straightforward, and is at present mostly a modified version of the survival era. I guess I'm more from the KISS-school then the "a single building/unit/whatever for every imaginable thingie in the mod" people.

And BtS is supposed to come out somewhere in July, so at August the latest we're supposed to have it in our fingers.

If you can make two eras of techs and then squeeze the buildings and units that we have into a tech tree then I'll be thrilled. We have too much dead space now.

I think BtS will work well for us. :D

Aaaah, half a day at the job tomorrow and then I'm off until Tuesday... a nice amount of time to dream up one. :D

Cool.

If you can incorporate all buildings and units I'll be double thrilled.

obviously bandaid patch 0.23b will still conform to civ 4 ver 1.61 as 0.23a does.

BtS is an add on to Warlords, ie if a version of the mod conforms to BtS it will also conform to Warlords?

============================

were you planning on tapping into the new unit graphics or new civs for the SotM mod?

if that is the case, if would make sense to have SotM version 2.0 conform to BtS or whatever is the latest expansion set out there when version 2.0 is about to be released.

however if we are not using units or civs from any of the Civ 4 expansions and are only using Great General functionality from Warlords, etc. we need to make sure that a BtS/Warlords compatible version remains backwards compatible to version 1.61.

as far as I can currently tell we are not going to be using any of the units or new civs in any of the Civ 4 expansions.

I think some of the Warlords features won't be in it. So I reckon no Warlord unit, no Military Academy, no scenario's and stuff that was associated with it.

But the remainder like the new civs, new leaders, gamefixes, UB's and Roman/Asian citysets will be included in BtS.
