Erik Mesoy May 01, 2002, 08:45 PM Germany/Greece. Warlord/Regent.
All victory conditions off the table.
Normal size map.
Beeline for Literature.
Lets see if we can research some Future Tech.:crazyeye:
I've always wanted to see future tech, modern armor, and stuff like that.
Who's up for it?;)
Edit: Added greece as an option.
GeneralTacticus May 03, 2002, 09:21 PM I'm up for it. I'd prefer to use Regent level, don't really care what Civ.
Erik Mesoy May 04, 2002, 02:51 AM Greece is Commercial and gets Alphabet for quicker Literature and Republic.
Germany is Militaristic and has a good UU, as well as being faster towards Monarchy.
I want everyones opinions, even id they arent playing.
I just got Industrial before 1500 ad and Modern in 1880 on Chieftain as Greece, so we should be able to see some future tech with either civ.
Exsanguination May 04, 2002, 08:22 AM count me in.
I vote for Greece/Regent. I can play very well with the Greeks. They have always been my cherised civ.
joshnsnaz May 04, 2002, 08:58 AM will join/Germany/Warlord
Erik Mesoy May 04, 2002, 09:31 PM The deal is:
Greece, Warlord, Normal wetness, Normal temeprature (Jungle sucks)
Sedentary barbs. Culture Starting locations off.
preserve random seed off. (This is NOT for reload-until-I-win.)
Normal map, 5 opponents for larger empire.
Victory conditions: None.
Continents, 3 billion years.
Would you mind if I renamed us to the Geeks? That would help with not mixing up save files.
Order is alphabetical:
Erik.
Exang.
General.
Joshnaz.
36 hours to say got it, then 36 hours to post.
To the Future!
Edit: Oh yes. 20 turns until the Industrial Ages, 10 after that.
Erik Mesoy May 04, 2002, 09:54 PM 4000 BC. We have started on a river, with 3 bonus grassland and a wheat! Wow. There are an extra 5 bonus grasslands in range. Can you say Wonder City? There is also a goody hut. Research is started on the Wheel.
Turn 4: The worker roads the wheat.
Turn 7: Athens grows
Turn 8: Athens builds warrior, starts settler. We have Flood Plains with Wheat to the south.
Turn 10: The goody hut gives us pottery. The worker goes to mine another bonus square.
Turn 14: Incence spotted off to the west.
Turn 16: AThens grows to size 3.
Turn 17: AThens builds settler, starts another. We disturb an angry Numidian Warrior. Wheel discovered, start Writing.
Turn 19: We make contact with England. Sell Wheel for 30 gold and Ceremonial Burial.
Make Athens be a settler factory. We need to colonize these rich lands immediately.
Erik-played
Exsanguination-Up now
General Tacticus is On Deck
Joshnaz is waiting.
Tacticus, are you from Ankh-Morpork? Just curious...
Exsanguination May 05, 2002, 07:46 AM got it
Exsanguination May 05, 2002, 10:24 AM what happened?
We got f***ed. Well, not really, but we are slightly behind due to where I found the settler on my inhereited turn (in the middle of a desert). to the north there was obvious fertile land, which was not explored. I had to use that settler to do so, delaying Sparta's finding. Alas, it was found next to a cow on a hill. Good spot.
First thing I did was change production in Athens to a warrior, staying at a settler would have wasted 8 turns of growing time. I popped out 2 warriors before that 3rd settler was made. I was shocked to see that we had only one warrior and one settler. I usually have 3 warriors before my settler - and i get it on the same turn the capital grows to 3. Think...
Not much happened, I found the English borders to our south and explored a bit. We have 17 turns to Writing and a goody hut gave us WC. I have a settler in a good spot on some plains that gives us access to horses. the next player can build city #3 here or move it around, BUT GET THOSE HORSES. The worker is building a road towards the horses.
Good luck to the next player.
joshnsnaz May 05, 2002, 10:35 AM Exsanguination: Played
GeneralTacticus: UpNow
joshnsnaz: ondeck
Erik Mesoy: is waiting.
Tact, your up
Erik Mesoy May 05, 2002, 11:24 PM That settler was NOT in the middle of a desert. It was by 2 flood plain wheat.
Flood Plain Wheat=Very quick growth=expansion. We are very early in the game. Maybe there was some desert there, but using the 2 floodplains would have been pretty good.
GeneralTacticus May 06, 2002, 12:27 AM 2350 BC: Queen Elizabeth refuses to trade for Masonry or Mystycism. Production orders extensively reformed - Athens now building Hoplite/Settler, Worker, Temple, Sparta now building a Hoplite, then Hoplite/Settler, worker, Hoplite/Settler, Temple.
2310 BC: Thermopylae forunded near Horses. Elite warrior to the south rests a turn.
2270 BC: Research funding cut, delaying Writing by 4 turns but increasing budget surplus from 1 to 4. Sparta temporarily held by warriors.
2230 BC: Hoplite of Athens built, Warrior of Athens sent to guard future city site.
2190 BC: Exploration continues.
2150 BC: Sparta grows to size 2; Hoplite will be done in 2 turns.
2110 BC: English warrior spotted heading north.
2070 BC: Sparta builds Hoplite. Road to Thermoylae complete.
2030 BC: Athens ngrows to size 3; Settler will be done in 2 turns.
1990 BC: Two new cities planned to be built around the central lake; one to utilize some of the Wheat resources and one to control the Gems.
1950 BC: Settler built in Athens; Worker started.
1910 BC: Horses near Termopylae linked up; Hoplite finished in Thermopylae. New road planned to go to Sparta.
1870 BC: Corinth built in the floodplains near Athens.
1830 BC: Nothing happens.
1790 BC: Hoplite built in Sparta; it is sent to garrison the next city site.
1750 BC: Worker built in Athens; sets of to build a road to Sparta. Writing discovered, and Literature is chosen as the next project. An embassy in built in London. A ROP agreement is signed with England that gains them 60 gold and us Masonry.
1725 BC: Our second worker joins the first in his project.
1700 BC: Damn brits build Nottingham next to the gems we coveted. Planned city site moved to control the wheat to the SE of that location.
1675 BC: More exploration.
1650 BC: General Tacticus signs of and passes the game to johnsnaz.
GeneralTacticus May 06, 2002, 12:30 AM And Erik, my handle is a character name from the Discworld series, a general from Ankh-Morpork who conquered most of Klatch and actually brought most of his men back. Later inheited Genua and declared war on Ankh-Morpork.
joshnsnaz May 06, 2002, 01:17 AM where's the save?
Erik Mesoy May 06, 2002, 02:12 AM Soory, was posting in a bit of a hurry there. I did get the books right, though. Those Terry Pratchett books are so HILARIOUS...A burning wheel rolled out of the wreckage, because there are certain conventions, even in tragedy... Soul Music. Funny, funny, funny.

ahem ahem... he was surrounding by ALL desert and one mountain. i figured you wanted those flood plain/wheat squares, but that city would be totally useless. It would take 30 turns to build any settler (1 production), so the extra growth would be lost. Those types of cities shoul dbe built later when we have a good core of production cities.
GeneralTacticus May 06, 2002, 11:54 PM Trying to attatch the save again. I hope it works this time.
GeneralTacticus May 06, 2002, 11:55 PM Damn, I can't seem to attatch the file. I think I'll just e-mail it to the next person in line.
EDIT: Can't do that either. When I try to attatch something it just sits for ages and if I cancel it it does the post but not the file.
joshnsnaz May 07, 2002, 07:50 AM Are you putting the .sav into a .zip?
GeneralTacticus May 07, 2002, 08:13 PM Yes.
LKendter May 07, 2002, 08:27 PM Have you had at least 10 posts?
Attachments are NOT allowed until at least 10 posts.
However, the preferred method of the file upload system is available from post #1
GeneralTacticus May 07, 2002, 11:58 PM Yes. I just just checked my profile and I have 34.
GeneralTacticus May 07, 2002, 11:59 PM YES! it's finally worked. Maybe it was due to my having other windows open at the same time.
Erik Mesoy May 08, 2002, 11:56 PM I have to be away until Sunday. Family matters...
GeneralTacticus May 10, 2002, 07:08 PM *BUMP*
Is anyone still paying attention?
Erik Mesoy May 12, 2002, 07:28 AM And Joshnaz is skipped! Got it.
Erik Mesoy May 12, 2002, 08:41 AM Inherited turn: WHAT? 6 items queued up? In EACH city? Shift-Del changes this. Switch Corinth to settler, it is in a bad spot. Science to 90%, literature in 14 turns. Switch Thermopylae to settler. Hit enter.
1: Who had that hoplite on GOTO?
2: Move the hoplite a little.
3: Sparta builds settler, start it on Colossus. I move the hoplit closer to England. I notice Liz has Mysticism, but not writing. OK, whaddya want for Mysticism. WHAT? NOT POSSIBLE? I demand mysticism. She refuses. I declare war. Not to worry, hoplites in mountains will easily hold off anything up to Knights- and we could get a great leader...
4: Athens builds Hoplite. I mine a bit by Sparta.
5: Shuffled some forces closer to England. We will mainly ignore this war.
6:Thermo builds settler. Athens culture expands. I notice that the English have parked a warrior to the northwest of us.
7: Nothing happens
8: I founded Delphi up near a fish square.
9: Our warrior attacks a english warrior- WE GET A GREAT LEADER!!! What do we do with this Pyrrhus guy? Rush the GL? Rush the Pyramids? I decide for Pyramids, then we can make peace with the English.
10: Athens builds settler, starts the Pyramids.
11: Athens completes Pyramids, starts Hoplite.
12: I get Peace treaty and Mysticism from Lizzie. Thanks for the great leader, Elizabeth! I found the city of Fart Alot, or Pharsalos, on the north coast.
13: I sign a ROP with england to increase relations. Furious-> Annoyed.
14: I spot Incence to the far northwest.
15: We discover Literature, and start on Philosophy.
16: Corinth builds worker, we will need about 5 more. Thermopylae builds hoplite, starts settler.
Why oh WHY have we not made contact with anyone else? Oh, the English are building the Oracle.
17: Nothing happens, so I declare war on England again. Joking!
18: I found Knossos near a gold mountain.
19: I finish an extra hoplite in Athens, start a settler. Build a library after this.
20: A goody hut nets us 50 gold.
Notes to next leader: We will have a lot of fast growing cities with these very early pyramids. Watch out for unhappiness! I suggest play the Farmers Gambit- loads of expansion with little military.
The zip contains 2 savefiles- the one is from this SG. The other is from a game where I have some Future tech. Have fun with the extra one- anyone is free to download it.
Erik Mesoy May 13, 2002, 09:31 AM Exangunation, you are UP! If exang doesnt grab it, joshnaz can take a quick turn, then send the game off the GeneralTacticus. We need to keep the timelines here.

Erik Mesoy May 15, 2002, 11:23 AM Switched from Colossus to Great Library???? Pure weed. We expect to have a tech LEAD, a tech LEAD, a tech LEAD, a tech LEAD. Now repeat that to yourself. Tech LEAD. Colossus will give mroe income= faster research. GL will give- all the techs that we havent learnt. Oh, trying to get Free Artistry or Mil Tradition? Sorry, those come after education. Colossus expires a lot later. To Joshnaz- build the colossus! Then get NEWTONS and COPERNICUS in the same city, this city will now produce craploads of beakers.
GeneralTacticus May 17, 2002, 04:27 AM Just so you know, I will be absent for the next two days.
Erik Mesoy May 17, 2002, 07:32 AM Joshnaz is skipped again, jumping to ME... Got It.
Erik Mesoy May 17, 2002, 08:55 AM Note to Exang. When Knossos grows, make it work the mountain. More commerce and an extra shield. When Athens has built temple, grow it and aim for Sun Tzu's. All these libraries are really helping out here.
Dotmap: We have a settler in little green. Aim for big green, it has incence. Big red, will lock borders as a fishing village, little red is a prospective site to stop england. Big purple will have good production once the jungle is cleared, one of the two small purples will be a filler city. Blue ring, we have spotted a third continent.
Erik Mesoy May 17, 2002, 08:57 AM 0: Erik III comes to power in Greece. He realizes that there is much to do. DONT save halfway through a turn. Save at the END of a turn, just before you hit enter. Also, we have like, 2, workers. I want to see 10 by the end of my reign.
1: 670 bc. I switch Athens to settler.
2: 650 bc. I switch GL to colossus. No shields wasted.

4: 610 bc. Sparta builds worker, starts another. Thermopylae builds library, starts a settler.

10: 490 bc. I micromanage Corinth.
11: 470 bc. AThens builds Hoplite, starts a worker. I micro Corinth again. Mycenae builds hoplite, starts settler.
12: 450 bc. Delphi culture expands. Sparta builds galley. to the north, we spot some tundra.

Sell wmap to both of them, we get contact with babs and iros.
trrade territory maps with them too, get some gold. Buy a wmap from babs for 120 gold.
Founded Thessalonica, started a Library. This is the FP spot.

Note to Exang. When Knossos grows, make it work the mountain. More commerce and an extra shield. When Athens has built temple, grow it and aim for Sun Tzu's. All these libraries are really helping out here.
Erik Mesoy May 18, 2002, 02:16 AM Exanguination, are you there? Not skipped yet, but you should take the game soon...
Exsanguination May 18, 2002, 07:40 AM I got it... been awhile since I played, I'm gonna have to refresh my memory here... don't worry. Post by tonight.
Exsanguination May 18, 2002, 06:22 PM my 10 turns:
0 - moved the science slider back a few to gain some gold
1 - Corinth falls into disorder, quickly suppressed
-Rhodes is founded, set to build library
2 - we discover the Republic! The people rejoice! We set our minds on Currency (7 turns)
3 - I am informed that Pharasalos cannot build its settler. Too bad... set it to library.
4 - Eretria is founded as a filler city to the west, set to build hoplite. The Iroquois declare war on the Babylonians!!!!
6 - Athens and Corinth fall into disorder! I raise the luxury tax - watch these two cities. They are both on the brink of disorder. Keep 'em happy!
7 - Athens finishes Temple, starts work on Barracks for pending military build-up.
The English complete the Oracle and begin GL. Iroquois start work on the Great Wall (they have Construction!!!). Cleopatra orders the Great Lighthouse.
I try to pry Construction from Hiawatha, but he demands too much.
9 - We discover Currency. Construction in 9.
10 - Troy founded as a good coastal city.
Notes:
Do NOT trade for Construction, the Iroquois want too much and the other civs have nothing to offer, so the trade would be wasted.
Keep Elizabeth isolated, and lets soon move in for the kill. The English look pretty weak, so lets just 'enlighten' them. Hence the military build-up. Build lots of horseman/swordsman/hoplites. It'll be well worth it!
Watch the happiness factor.
Good luck!
Erik Mesoy May 18, 2002, 09:52 PM Any maps or dotmaps? DId you follow my dot map?

Sorry... too lazy. But I followed your dotmap pretty closely.
Erik Mesoy May 19, 2002, 11:17 AM I got it, and I got forced off the computer by mommy. Luckily the library has a computer. I will post tomorrow.
Erik Mesoy May 20, 2002, 01:42 AM Erik IV comes to power in Greece.
Inherited: Corinth changes from Marketplace to aqueduct. Spart also goes for aqueduct. General, why were you building so many swordsmen? I siwtch the GL to Hanging Gardens. We will need the happiness in Republic, and it will arrive at the same time as Feudalism, so no cascade. CHange Knossos to Marketplace. Siwtch Thessalonica to Library. We dont need temples! We are SCIENTIFIC. I changed all temple orders.
3: 280 AD. Delphi builds sword, starts harbor. Troy builds hoplite, starts worker. Eretira is not growing anyway, so I whip a library.
4: 290 AD. Mycenae makes worker, starts another. Ephesus produces a hoplite, send him to the English Mountains. A fortified mountain hoplite will defend superbly and can get us a GL.
5: 300 AD. Feudalism discovered. Revolting time. Hanging Agrdens completed in Athens. Argos builds Library, starts worker. Thessalonica starves??
We draw 5 turns of anarchy.
310-anarchy. 320-anarchy. 330-Herakleia builds Swordsman. I check very carefully here. All the shields are corrupt? 340-anarchy. 350- Republic.
11: 360 AD. Jungle cleared by Knossos. The Iros have taken over Eridu.
12: 370 AD. Nothing much happens, so I trade Poly to the english for 130 gold and a map. Oh, our peace treaty has 1 turn left...

14: 390 AD. Thessalonica starts FP! Thermoplylae builds barracks, starts swordsman. We will conquer the english pretty soon. I extort 22 gold from the English. WARNING: AThens nearly revolts. I caught the unhappiness b4 it started, but watch out next turn. I got 21 gold and worldmap from Egypt. 4 gold and wmap from Iro's, 22 gold and 19 from persia and babs.
15: 400 AD. We lose our gem supply. England wants reneg on the epace treaty. Wartime! SParta builds aqueduct, starts sword. A horseman retreats from Nothingham.
Erik Mesoy May 20, 2002, 01:43 AM 16: 410 AD. Athens builds market, starts Cathedral. We need it to content these idiots.. No one else has started it yet. Corinth builds aqueduct, starts swordsman. Eretria builds hoplite. At the battle of Nottingham, we get an elite swordsman! Another GL?? I raze the city for more territory, wrong spot and no flip. I fortify a hoplite on a gem mountain near london.
17: 420 AD. Hoplite built in Marathon. FP site gets a culture expansion. The swordsmen are only a few squares from london.
18: 430 AD. Troy builds worker. Sparta builds swordsman and is set to build them at 10 shields turn. The idiot english have refounded Nottingham, I raze it again. An elite sword kills an archer, no GL. Sword 1 square from London.

Exsanguination May 20, 2002, 05:02 PM but STOP BUILDING WORKERS!!!!! I know this isn't my game, but we have enough and need NO more! Build horseman/swordsman and/or improvements. Take my advice or not, but all these workers are doing us no good at this point in time.
GeneralTacticus May 20, 2002, 11:54 PM Erik, I was building a lot of swordsmen in preparation for invading England. The more the merrier.
Exsanguination May 23, 2002, 08:21 AM is it my turn? wheres the save?
Erik Mesoy May 24, 2002, 05:09 AM Problem with the DVD drive here at home. My parents forced me off the computer until its fixed. so I am posting this from the library computer, most likely illegally. Skip me for a while.
