View Full Version : i hate it when this happens
dakkon Apr 12, 2007, 01:45 AM i recently started a game as the persians, with 70% water on archipelago. my starting island was rather small, and i was penned in with england.
upon learning iron working, i found that the only iron on the whole island was deep within the english territory. so i began to pump out horsemen by the bucketload to try and take it by force.
and so the war raged on and on. and finally i got the iron. yay. but then about five turns later without having produced more than three immortals i was in the medieval ages and had finished feudalism and was producing medieval infantry.
i was so angry at this so i felt i had to rant about this.
of course currently the year is 1400 AD or so and the english and the ottomans have been wiped out by me :king:
Turner Apr 12, 2007, 02:54 AM You should be able to produce your UU even if it's obsolete if you haven't had your GA yet.
vmxa Apr 12, 2007, 04:07 PM Yes as long as no GA, you can always make your UU. Not sure I would want to make them at this point. Get Knights and forget Immortals, I was never fond of them anyway.
ecuwins Apr 12, 2007, 05:13 PM I would not worry about it. I use Persia a lot, not for Immortals though, I just like the traits. I have found that the Immortal to be very nasty, very early on but after Horsemen they are not really necessary. Just like you ended up doing: I usually go for horses, build many, and blitz. By the end of that first war I can usually get Knights which would make my Immortals obsolete anyway. I will build 1 though to start my GA shortly after I go Republic.
A fun setup to play if you like a quick game is: small map, pangea, 70 or 80 ocean, climate and age can be random, max rivals, and play as the Persians. First research Iron. While doing that build 3 cities that have a lot of hills and mountains around them if you can then nothing but attackers(try to pop a hut or trade to get better ones). Once you discover Iron connect it if you have it or go take it if you don't. If you end up getting the Iron with little to no bloodshed the game will be over quickly. If you are lucky and start with Iron the game can be over by the late ancient age.
Sashie VII Apr 13, 2007, 11:07 AM I actually had a game as Persia when the only two iron ores on the continent was in the Chinese core, who are on the other end (I'm on one end) with Egypt in the middle. So I hated seeing no iron to build Immortals with too, at that time. However, that game made me rethink Immortals, since horses were superb in thar big war. They're fast and they retreat, which Immortals do not do.
But I managed to build one Immortal before Feudalism though, for keeps :D
ecuwins, I used to do 1-1 Tiny Pang with that :)
Homie Apr 13, 2007, 07:23 PM You'll need iron anyways, for many other units, and for railroads and iron works. So getting the iron was worth your time.
ecuwins Apr 14, 2007, 10:38 AM "I used to do 1-1 Tiny Pang with that" sounds like a good candidate for the Aztecs or Zulu.
Sashie VII Apr 14, 2007, 10:12 PM Nah, I prefer Greeks or Sumer. Epic war :crazyeye:

DBear Apr 16, 2007, 06:46 PM Huh? If you're the Persians you shouldn't be able to produce maces, as immortals have identical stats.
