I've been considering collecting for a while, and I'm torn between 'nids, Tau, and Da Boyz. Leaning towards the Tyranids, but seeing this thread throws Orks back into strong consideration.

Orks are a dificult army to use, but they are a modelist's dream. You can make some very wacky convertions, specially on the vehicles:

http://www.pbase.com/hammerbolt/image/21428041

(neither are mine).

Bugs, oth, are veeeeery nasty. A full-scale 'nid assault army (only 2-3 monsters + a huge mob of little critters) is a nightmare to stop... :(

Welcome back buddy, its so great to see you again! :D

My marines are not painted yet (unexpected, huh? ;)), the army list (shopping list) is giving me trouble, but I think I finaly got around making a good one. If anyone is interested in it, PM me, I won`t pester you guys anymore :D

Iggy - do you prefer assaults, shootiness, hordes, elites, cool models, cool conversions, a balanced game? Whats most important to you? :)

Got myself a Killa Kan yesterday :D

Hopefully this will attract some enemy fire, provide cover to some of the Boyz and be able to deal out some damage if/when it gets into close combat. Eventually i'll get a couple more, but with front and side armour 11 (plus the almost-compulsory Armour Plates at 5 points), the one i got should worry the enemy enough

@ Stormy: don't worry about pestering people. post the list here, but wrap spoiler tags around it so if people dont want to read it they dont have to ;)

Hello again.

Not being very satisfied with my dreadought-on-tracks, I'm trying to build a better one. But I really need some new tracks... :(

Then I found this:

I've been searching toy stores everywhere but no luck. Has anyone seen any toy with tracks like that?

Cheers

`kay, LMR! :) One spoiler tagged space marine rant coming up. (Quinn, how are you liking the new CSM codex?)
Does anyone have a DA codex? Using some DA army lists, a calculator, the DA Codex review and the BA Codex, I managed to krack the point costs (I think) for units that I need to make my SM Vanilla army. The whole point is, I get so much more with the DA version, plus, I would be ready for those changes in a couple of years..

DA list (everyone has frags, kraks, and bolt pistols, all sargeants are veterans)

Captain - 120 [power weapon, meltabombs]
Tactical Squad A - 195 [power weapon, heavy bolter, flamer]
Tactical Squad B - 190 [missile launcher, plasma gun]
Tactical Squad C - 200 [lascannon, plasma gun]
Assault Squad A - 280 [power fist, plasma pistol, meltabombs]
Land Speeder Tornado A - 100 [heavy bolter, assault cannon]
Land Speeder Tornado B - 75 [multi-melta, heavy flamer]
Predator Destructor - 110 [extra armour, heavy bolter sponsons]
Predator Annihilator - 145 [extra armour, heavy bolter sponsons]
Whirlwind - 85

Guys? I am having huge trouble with glueing stuff together. I always get a huge blob of glue that oozes (If I was playing Nyds or CSM I wouldn`t care :p) or I get a tiny drop that doesn`t work.. Any advice? :help:

Quinzy

Tactical Squad A - 195 [power weapon, heavy bolter, flamer]

If you have a power weapon here, then it's a close combat squad, and it will try to charge the enemy. If so, the heavy bolter is wasted...

Land Speeder Tornado B - 75 [multi-melta, heavy flamer]

You're mixing anti-tank and anti-presonel weapons here. I suggest concetrating on one role, it'll be far more efective, specially on hit-and-runs

Predator Annihilator - 145 [extra armour, heavy bolter sponsons]

Trade the sponsons for lascannons, or you'll quickly loose your long range tank killing capacity. Just yesterday I faced a Predator set up like this. I imobilized it and blew up it's turret on the 1st turn, then just left it to rot there for the rest of the game :goodjob:

It seems to me that alot of people are missing the tactical part of a tactical squad... They`re supposed to be flexible, not specialized. Just cos a squad has a heavy weapon it doesn`t mean I shouldn`t assault with it if I have to. If I wanted to only sit back and shoot, I`d take a Dev squad ;) Also, what if they get charged? Wouldn`t the power weapon come in handy then?

That Tornado is concentrated on one role - tank-hunting. But what if:
A) it happens to fly close to a bunch of infantry in cover? Flamin` death!
B) somehow manages to outlive the enemy tanks? Flamin` death!
C) enemy chooses to have lots of infantry and a few tanks? Flamin` death!

The thing is - lascannon sponsons would cost me extra 35 pts..

Assault cannon: 4 S6 shots with rending and 24" range :goodjob:

Good against anything. Get it on the rear of a tank, any tank, and boom

The thing is - lascannon sponsons would cost me extra 35 pts..
And what is the cost of a crippled, useless Predator? Not to mention that if you are firing at really tought armour (AV13/14) you'll need those extra 'cannons... or firing at a Carnifex/Deamon Prince...

Stormrage
Aug 26, 2007, 08:15 AM

Well, I already have an Ass Tornado on the list. But where to get the 35 pts for the Predator?

Dump all the meltabombs and krak grenades, and the heavy bolter for the tactical...

Stormrage
Aug 26, 2007, 10:51 AM
krak grenades come for free with the DA codex, you can`t dump them ;) (and with the BA codex, and 99 % it will be like that in the Space Marine Redux in a year or so)

jlvfr
Aug 26, 2007, 12:38 PM
Dump the whirlwind. That will give you the points for the lascannon AND for another assault cannon for the melta-speeder...

Stormrage
Aug 26, 2007, 05:08 PM
How`s this? By losing the Whirlwind, and that Tac Squad that you didn`t like, I managed to get in the Lascannon Sponsons and another Assault Squad. I`ll leave those last 5 points in the air cos I don`t have (won`t have) an unlimited supply of models ;) Also, cos they cost the same, I can have a chaplain leading them with the Assault squads, and I can pick from a Melta Tornado or a Typhoon. Good call on those lascannon sponsons, I`m loving the idea by the minute.

Chaplain - 120 [jump pack] / Captain - 120 [power weapon, meltabombs]
Tactical Squad B - 190 [missile launcher, plasma gun]
Tactical Squad C - 200 [lascannon, plasma gun]
Assault Squad A - 265 [power fist, meltabombs]
Assault Squad B - 255 [plasma pistol, meltabombs]
Land Speeder Tornado A - 100 [heavy bolter, assault cannon]
Land Speeder Tornado B - 75 [multi-melta, heavy flamer] / Typhoon
Predator Destructor - 110 [extra armour, heavy bolter sponsons]
Predator Annihilator - 180 [extra armour, lascannon sponsons]

Thanks for the Welcome Back's. I was wanting to take a break from the fast pace of the RTS online play of Dawn Of War and enjoy some turn based 40k fun, but I see the taskmaster has put his whip away.....What's happened to you stormy? Some tough Nobz are gonna step up and take your Warboss status if you don't get this thing rolling again.:trouble:

This Table top thing looks way too complicated. I'd like to make some of the models but the prices seem a little crazy unless your going to play them.....

Has anyone else heard about Apocalypse? Its a new WH40K game thingy that allows you to field ANY amount of ANYTHING you want. There is no limit to how many unit types you are allowed to field.

Want to have 20 tanks? take 20 tanks! It is meant for games of 3000+ points or so.

Some new stuff is being released here in January, and word has it they are re-casting the Ork sprue (that is they will look the same but have additional bitz), and the vehicles (trukks, buggies and bikez) will be revamped.

In addition to that, the Wyrdboyz are making a comeback and there is a new Big Mek model (which is in the sneak-peek section) :)

I've done that with my "Escape the City!" scenario. You know cereal boxes do pretty good buildings.

But any way here's the rough draft of my command group.

Prince 125pt
-Swordmaster(honor) 40pt; Armor of Protection 40pt; Dragon Armor 8pt; Dragon 320pt
Total: 533pt

Arch Mage 220pt
-Level 4 Mage 35pt; Book of Hoeth 100pt
Total: 355pt

Commander 70pt (deployed w/ archers)
-Pure of Heart(honor) 0pt; Reaver Bow 40pt
Total: 110pt

Commander 70pt (deployed w/ swordmasters)
-Pure of Heart(honor) 0pt; Blade of Sea Gold 40pt
Total: 110pt

Mage 95pt (deployed w/ dragon princes)
-Level 2 Mage 35pt; Elven Steed 12pt; Ithilmar Barding 5pt; Ring of Fury 30pt; Banner of Ellyrion 15pt
Total: 192

Mage 95pt (deployed w/ shadow warriors)
-Level 2 Mage 35pt; Shadow Armor 25pt; Jewel of Dusk 15pt; Silver Wand 10pt
Total: 180

Command Group Total:1480pt

I'm not sure Mage #2 will work... Cause his Shadow Armor. But it allows him to deploy w/ Shadow Warriors, which have "Scout" ability. Magic Missiles flying right at the start.

Yes I know its really pricey... but I like my troops well equiped and well lead.
Tactics vs. Numbers... I choose tactics

Preview time!

I recently purchased an Ork Battleforce (for my birthday :D) and have set about assembling it. i got a trukk, a buggy, 5 bikes, 16 boyz and a sprue of battlefield accessories, such as oil drums and tanks traps.

i have only put together one of the boyz (the unpainted burna boy in one of the pics below), so once i get them done Waaagh! Pee-Joo will be looking a bit more menacing

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/52574/waaagh_01.png

I experimented a bit with the unpainted rokkit launcha; his launcha has broken (and is in flames) so he has taken matters into his own hands! I painted the black and yellow stripe warning sign things along the edges and also made the rokkits nice and bright, so da scum knowz they iz gonna die!
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/52574/Rokkits.png

The only boy from the battleforce i have done is the unpainted one on the right. the other two i have semi-painted. i like the guy in the middle, the cigar is ripped straight from aaglo's burna boy. the one of the right has an IG fuel tank on his back, and the burna itself is a shoota with the end of a flamer stuck to the end. wire was used to make the hose. his goggles were made from green stuff.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/52574/Burnas.png

The Slavez are only blue takked to the bases, because i want to add the chains and stuff before i glue them on, just to make my life easier :) There are a couple of cool ones in here; you can see in the foreground a guy who has lost his left hand, and another who has just recently lost his other hand! the guy will be white with SOS on it maybe. the guy who looks like he has been shot uses the severed head from the ork sprue and an empty IG helmet from that sprue. once i make the slaver with a cattleprod, this guy will be standing in from of it :D
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/52574/slaves01.png

The first few bikerz i made i made straight from the sprue; no customisations. but, although in games with points it is horribly expensive, i couldnt resist making the last biker into a Nob with a power claw! In game, he would cost 30 points for the Warbike, +5 for Armour Plates and +3 for Red Paint, +22 for the Nob, +25 for the power claw, +8 for 'Eavy Armour = 93 points all up. my Warboss is 117 at the moment i think...

anyway, since the other bikerz are kinda small compared to the regular boyz, i decided i'd need to beef the nob up a bit. so used a body from the sprue and two ork arms that usually support shooters. i flattened the bottom of the body, glued it on to the biker legs, then (with the use of a little green stuff) position the arm so it is holding the handlebar. the hand needed to be cut off then repositioned. the powerclaw was made using bitz: two choppa blades, a left over shoota, an ammunition clip and two small pieces of wire from inside the powercord of an old computer mouse. the arm needed to be modified a little to accommidate the claw. The nob's head is left over from the black orc sprue i used to make the 'ard boyz. i also replaced the handle bars of the nob's bike with one of the 'ard boyz banner options (the same one that i used for Warboss Pee-Joo)

So, what do you guys think of the new Chaos Codex and minis? I think its great for the most part (coming from a newbie ;)). What I don`t like is that we have to wait for the Daemon Codex, and that some minis didn`t get refreshed, specificaly the Obliterators and the Chaos Dreadnought.

I already adapted my SM army list to go renegade :mischief: I threw in just a few touches of daemonic influence. The warband is now led by a Sorcerer, cos the Chaos lord turned into a Spawn. They keep dragging him around with them, as a pet (like that ... scorpion-gorilla spawn in WHFB). The other thing is that the Vindicator has Daemonic Possession. Thats it for my part, everything else is pretty much vanilla Black Legion Chaos Undecided.

At higher points they will get some Possessed, and if I ever get to 3000 (yeah, right), the Sorcerer will be awarded daemonhood by Tzeentch, and the boyz will get some Flamers (lesser daemons) to keep them company!

The Termie is from the GW website, nothing to do with my imagination or modeling skills, its just there for size comparison :)

Should I add a tail to it? I always wanted to slap a crocodile tail on something, eversince I saw Whipplash in He-man, 15 years ago  Also, he might get a jaw and teeth, nothing to big, just to give him a wicked smile ;)

K.. tried the teeth, made him look retarted. Also I changed the wings cos there are some in the Possessed spure, just need to hack them of the Power Armour backpack. The mutaded hand is from the Possessed sprue, but I`ll use another, this is the only one that worked with the pictures I have. The real one will be an arm thats turned into a flaming sword. Also, the Tzeentch icon is blantantly improvised, but its 98% the same as the one in the CSM sprue. Here is a new picture, with improved cut-and-pasting, enjoy.

Bah, we Orkz drink gud ol' mushy juice. makez us grow bigger and greener dan da rest! WAAAGH! We makez a mess of Fabulous Bile! Warboss Pee-Joo wud make Fabulous Bile look like a durty lil Grot!

Ahem... sorry about that. It's not easy being green...

What are the stats like for Fabius and his Enhanced Warriors?

I cant wait til my next battle. Those guys are gonna get a nasty surprise when they suddenly find 33 more boyz (2 nobs, 1 mekboy, 2 kommandoz, 1 big shoota, 4 burna boyz and 22 slugga boyz), 5 bikerz (including Nob), a warbuggy, another war trukk, and a killa kan 'Waaagh!ing' towards them!

Well.. if you field more boyz, thats more points.. aren`t they going to field more points too? You might get a nasty suprise yourself?

Fabius Bile
WS 5
BS 4
S 5
T 4
W 3
I 4
A 5
Ld 10
Sv 3+

Equipment:
Chirurgeon - part magical part-mechanical harness, sorta like the Techmarine`s, but more.. "medicine"-like (grants Feel no Pain).
Xyclos Needler - Range: 18", AP:6, Assault 3, always wounds on a D6 roll of 2+
Rod of Torment - CCW, if the enemy suffers a wound from it -Instant Death, regardless of its Toughness.

Enhanced Warriors:
Any Chaos Marine Squad (meaning just the troops) can get it for 3pts per model. Befor the game roll a D6.
1- Berserk Rage! - they get super pissed off and attack each other. Roll for armor saves for each of them. Survivors are Fearless and +1 strength for the rest of the game.
2-5 - Stable Mutation - same, except without fighting each other.
6 - Created a Monster - Fearless, + 2 strenght. But I have to remove one model after each of my turns. I can pick the model I want.

I have to see what I can use for them. If I don`t have to use marines, I am thinking of making Chaos Ogryns. Unfortunately the cool, new ones are expensive.. Imperial Guard Ogryn Auxilia (5 Cadian Shock Troops, 1 Cadian Officer, 1 Commissar and 10 Ogryns) - 100£. A single Ogryn is 10£... so yeah, its cheaper, and gives me some loyalist models to ripp apart.. but still.. 100£ :(

On another note, I am so stealing this idea -
http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics11/img468afe027a13e.jpg
only I`ll have them dark green, and lashing tails. Some could have parts that are on fire..

Since the Spawn kit lets you make 2 spawns, I`ll make one to be
the former Leader of the Warband, and the other one an Undivided Greater Daemon (not a prince, oh and - screw Tzeentch :P, we don`t need stupid marks, we`re the Black Legion!) - modeled very much like Diablo. only green and with his back on fire. I wonder if the Spawn Torso is to small for Shaggoth`s legs? Can anyone who is more into (has the models, saw the models, can estimate from pictures..) this check this out for me? Thanks.

Right, so, if the GW pictures are up to scale, then we get this :mischief:
Watcha think? See the blue part of the arm holding the sword? Imagine him painted like that only green. So, very dark with an eerie green shine. he`ll also have the mandatory chains, skulls, chaos stars etc.. on display. Oh, and I won`t pose him like that, I was limited by the pictures available.

Wow, look at that Greater Daemon! It's awesome!! :D

Seriously, it looks very good

Fabius sounds pretty darn scary.

And when i play with my mates we dont take points into account. we just make it roughly even (last time it was IG/Eldar vs Orks/Tau/Black Templars). And a large part of my problem was the boyz dying from shooting before they had a chance to get into combat.

But now i have the warbike squad (which have a 5+ cover save and provide a 5+ cover save to units behind them), the grot mob (providing a 5+ cover save to those behind them) and my mekboy has a kustom force field (5+ cover save within 6 inches)

You may also say that my c`n`p is very good :smug:

Wait.. how do you shoot something "behind them"? Don`t you need a Line of Sight? Or if its a cannon shell coming from above.. it goes over "them".

The guys over at Bolter & Chainsword are tempting me to go with Word Bearers, but once you go black.. :mischief:

LizardmenRule!
Sep 15, 2007, 05:05 AM
The "Living Shield" rule doesn't affect barrage weapons, i presume, for exactly the reason you stated. but i think you can shoot through Grots if you pass a Leadership test

The grot special rules are great. Apart from the Living Shield one that i was just talking about, they have one that lets Ork mobs re-roll difficult terrain movement when moving through difficult terrain that contains a grot mob (the orks walk over the grots), and a mine clearance rule that removes 3D6 worth of grots and then removes the minefield

Stormrage
Sep 15, 2007, 08:55 AM
Well those Grots sure are useful! Get some more! :D

LizardmenRule!
Sep 15, 2007, 10:07 PM
They also gave my a psychological edge in my last battle. The guy using IG stopped at nothing to try and kill all the Grots, since they are captured Guardsmen and he wanted to "kill all the traitors"

so that meant my orks werent targeted for a while, but the grots didnt last long either, especially after they were assaulted by 3 ogryns

Stormrage
Sep 16, 2007, 12:10 AM
Oooh, I like ogryns. The new ones I mean. They might become Bile`s boys in my amry one day.. On another note.. has anyone seen the Vampire Count`s Black Coach? It has a vampire in a casket, and the casket`s lid is ornate..

I`d like to use it for my Dreadnought`s sarcophaghus, but I`m unsure of the size, since it seems GW pictures are not really up to scale (the ones after you click on the unit in the miniatures gallery).

Yah, both of them will be converted to Chaos. The coffin one will also have "the fax machine in the back row" sitting on top.. churning out unholy text.
http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/witchhunters/catalog/images/withhunter_retinue_c.gif
- I am going with a daemon heavy force. I think Word Bearers offer much more room for conversion than the Black Legion (which I`ll definatelly start collecting in paralel, when I win the lottery). Not to crazy about their color scheme, but I`ll make them a splinter warband, with a little different colors. I`ll probalby use the new Flagellant sprue for the Terminators! 10 insane prophets of doom with huge armour and bad attitude! Also, the new Dark Angels veteran sprue offers some great Aspiring Champions :D

Please ask the GW people about my Greater Daemon, is it doable? I just need the chest part of the Spawn torso to equal that of the Shaggoth, abdomen would be green stuffed.

Stormrage

Here is a picture of the Dreadnought, but, again, I`m not 100 % sure the scale on their pictures is true.

The servo and the lid would be painted like stone (not the papers tho, so its a machine in stone).

Sep 16, 2007, 07:00 PM
Well, if you wanted to hear a battle report I had a CTF battle and I lost... badly(It was bad because I almost won)... But it wasn't my fault...

I used a 2x2 field w/ skirmish rules(Kill-team in 40k). We were allowed around 250 pts of un-mounted units. I had my high elves. My ally had Wood elves. My 2 enemies had Dwarfs and (however unlikely)Orcs and Goblins.

My battle plan was to position my best fighters in a wedge w/ woody ranged units in the center. Swordmasters made up the bulk of my army. I also had a lvl 2 mage to fill it in.

First, my Ally and I started by Bombarding the approaching enemies with missle fire. (My mage missed out on the Fury of Khaine spell, but got curse of arrow attraction.) We easily drove back the first wave. You'd think we win right? Well as we readied our men for a charge on the center line of the Orcs(but mostly goblins) and Gobs. Thats when thing went south... Black Orcs don't like to be killed... The arrow fire did almost nothing... and my mage had no offensive spells... So I used "Walk through Worlds" on my mage and had him half way back when the assaulting Black Orcs broke through the defensive line holding the back the orcs who had our flag. I mean, After they killed the swordmasters(no easy task) they only had to run through archers.

But we lost... It was a close game. We lost because My mage failed to cast his etherial speel and the orcs coming back with the flag charged and killed him. So W/ the remained of the swordmasters I re-captured the enemy flag. I ran it to the capture point but we were to late...

It was a good fun game.

Dat iz right! Green iz da best! :D

I know how it feels when you just can't kill something with shooting, it happens to me almost every turn! I get to roll lots of dice for Ork shooting, but i only ever hit a third of the time...

My greatest shooting achievement was killing a Wraithlord in one turn with rokkit fire. My Warboss used his ammo runt to re-roll to hit and succeeded. so now my mate has bougth another one... :(

DragonBird
Sep 16, 2007, 08:17 PM
Aren't wraithlords supposed to be nearly indistructible? And Awesomely powerful... The best shooting feat was routing 40 orc spearmen w/ 10 archers in one turn.

Sep 16, 2007, 10:18 PM
Thats bittersweet... I mourn for my brethren of my future army... But thats just to awesome. oh... I have a slight problem of targeting all my mages w/ fury of khaine on enemy generals and their bodyguard... It must suck when you get hit w/ d6 strength 4 wounds... 4 times w/ no armor saves. I just need to find an item that makes all hits auto wound(in spells)... that would be awesome.

9 Tactical Marines (frags, kraks, heavy bolter, meltagun)

Rhino (Dozer, armour, Hunter Killer, storm-bolter, smokes)

Are you going to do anything special to them? Appearance-wise, i mean

if them were IG, i would have suggested something like berets or balaclavas to make them look Special Ops, but that might be hard to do with Space Marines...

Stormrage
Sep 17, 2007, 08:32 AM
Well, you`d just need helmetless sargeant heads for them all, and here come the berets. I don`t see why not :)

A space marine sargeant. So bad-ass his bare head doesn`t freeze in outer space.

Also, there is a special rule that every guardsman learns - if we somehow end up fighting Astartes, you may not shoot lasguns in their sargeant`s faces, that would be unfair. Armour is OK, cos it can`t hurt them. Besides, we could be the ones being wrong. Killing the Holy Emperor`s finest, not a good way to promotion.

Ok, so in the Apocalypse Releases there is a formation of 3 Vindicators called the Line Breaker Squadron.

These are the words of Galahad_Knight,a Blood Angels player, referring to a "squad" of two baals and a vindicator.
I prefer the hybrid "Baal Breaker Squad"
Two big red Baals and a nice thick gun driving up the middle, able to slap into the flanks and penetrate deep and hard, releasing their massive payload into the faces of your unlucky foes.

If you're BA, you've put your Baals on the table.

* Irongut head would be too big for terminator body
* Chaos Spawn body too small at the waist for the shaggoth legs (unless you did some extensive green-stuffing) but a dragon ogre body would be a better fit.
* Black Coach coffin lid is about twice the size of the casket on the dreadnought, but wouldnt look stupid with some conversion work

hope that helps :) You'd be pleased to hear that the guys were impressed by your ideas and loved the look of the daemon prince dude :D

on another note, battled today against IG, and (because im a stupid nice guy) i let my mate use a display baneblade from the store. The first round of firing by that alone destroyed all by bikers, a war trukk and 1 boy, and 13 'Ard Boyz! my burna boyz made a mess of a leman russ exterminator and his command squad tho, which was something.

i had tonnes of bad dice rolls: the worst was when my killa kans hit the side armour of the leman russ and scored three penetrating hits. and i rolled two 1s and a 2 for the damage chart (which is shaken and stunned, i think). luckily the burna boyz were able to get through the front armour...

all in all, it was the baneblade that made things incredibly difficult, as he had a basilisk sitting at the back as well, firing away.

@DragonBird - you can get Eldar, Elves, whatever GW stuff you want if they have it in stock. And they usally do. They are having sales on old models and some won`t be available anymore. When I was online yesterday, they sold their last 3 Valtens, last 2 Old CSM Possessed and the old Flagellants. All the newer stuff is available, tho. They also sell paints, brushes, etc. The only thing they don`t sell is minis for Specialist games.

@DragonBird and LMR!, and.. everyone thats interested - go to Warseer Forums and check out the News and Rumours sub-forums for 40k and WHFB respectively, you`ll find photos of new Orks and High Elves. There are also some new daemons and Vampires models and other stuff.

I played a game today w/ 2 friends.

It was a last stand scenario.

The Alliance of High Elves and Wood Elves stood in defience of the orc hordes.

We played on a 5'x5' table w/ my High Elf walls and Towers. 1000pts of Woodies, 1000pts of High Guys, and 2000pts of Orcs and Gobbs.

What basically happened was on the first turn I used all my spellcasters and bolt throwers on the Orc Warboss (w/ wyvern friend) and killed him. Half his army ran. I present you with his response: DAMMIT! RALLY DAMMIT!

Then on his turn, half of what was left rolled for animosity. I shifted my spellcasters to the east wall w/ my Lothern Seaguard. This was where the greatest concentration of Orcs were. The remenants of the Orcs charged. The Wood Elves nearly fell (they had them freaking black orcs!), but once the enemies climbed up the walls the Glade Guard backed away and the Wardancers and Spellweavers preceded to screw them over.

Ngyaah! :p - I have so much to read... including the whole horus heresy -saga (from which I've heard that it'll be about 20 books altogether - so far there are 6 made). I'd like to wait for the omnibuses.
So far I've read: Eisenhorn-omnibus, Last chancers-omnibus, Gotrek&Felix-omnibuses 1 and 2 + giant & orcslayer. Next I was thinking about the Gaunts ghost - not because the subject is very interesting, but because the writer (Dan Abnett) is an awesome writer.

About something I've totally missed previously in this thread:
I love the ork conversions by LMR!, especially the trukk with interchangeable lego-fixing-weapons :) And all the rivets & plates :)... damn, I almost want to make it into a civ3-unit ;)

My walls are not unbreakable... :( Well... It took 3 dwarf cannons, 1 Grudge Thrower, and and an Imperial Great Cannon; 3 turns to kill the wall (WOW). The city did not fall. I timely charge by my Brettionain Ally routed the invading troops. He sent his Questing Knights to take on the artillary. Meanwhile my Lothern Seaguard and Archers poured volley upon volley into my attackers infantry leaving the young lads of Knight's Errant to mop up the survivors. PTs wise it was a tie (heavy losses), but I think it was a victory cause the port pouring troops into the land survived.

I've started targeting my magic at them Black Orcs, and they don't last very long anymore. Even with the Cannon Fodder in front of them.

I'm planning on building a battlewagon, with a zzap gun and two twin-linked rokkit launchas to counter his tanks, and five bolt-on big shootas to mow down guardsmen. all up it would cost close to 200 points by itself, but since we dont play points in our games, the more the better :D

Battled against the IG today, and against "Fluffy": his new Baneblade

With one gun - in one shot- Fluffy destroyed a Trukk and two of its boyz, a Killa Kan and 6 outta 8 kommandos. plus other boyz with its heavy bolters.

the highlight of the game (not for me, but it was funny) was when his basilisk shot at a trukk, and the shot scattered into a mob of 'ard boyz, killing them all!

to make things a little fairer, i was allowed to bring on "reserves" using orks that has been killed, as long as i had the minimum mob number. not that it helped much... i killed his hellhound, immobilised two sentinels and killed one, killed two servitors and a whole bunch of guardsmen, while he killed the same trukk twice, my kommando squad, both slugga boyz mobs (one twice), most of the 'ard boyz, the buggy, one killa kan and immoblised the other, and half of the burna boyz. basically everything i had died at one point or another

once again the armour plates on all my vehicles paid off: i saved two penetrating hits on a trukk, one on a killa kan and one penetrating and one glancing on the buggy from rolling the 6 that was needed.

Waaagh!

DragonBird
Oct 23, 2007, 08:28 PM
Cool battle... Like the part when the basilisk missed the trukk and wiped out the unit of Boyz.

Nothing new from me. Except the small skirmish between some Skeleton Warriors(16) and HE Spearmen(16) The layout was your basic 3'x3' desert, lots of (badly made)rolling hills with a couple tombs/pyramids(even worse). We used a tan bed sheet and put washclothes beneath it, and Legos for the structures(if it works...).

To make it interesting, you roll for reanforcements after your 4th turn, rolling a 5 = One man, 6 = 2 men. The skelos could spawn their new dudes next to the pyramids or on the edge of the table, while the elves could only spawn on the edges.

The Skelos rival gobbs in fighting skills. But they are unbreakable, and cause fear(although against an overall Ld of 8, it doesn't do much good). Although some of my men ran the real awesome part was that they formed themselves into one big 4x3 unit(thats 12 men) with the other 4 men(and spawned guys) covering the flanks. The funniest thing was that when I decimated the larger part of his units, he spawned 2 guys on the other side. Then right before I killed them another spawned on the opposite side. We followed this for about 30 minutes. Then I made a fatal flaw. I moved my unit of 12 to close to a tomb, and bam! they were assaulted by 2 Skelos from the flank(just spawned) and from 8 in the front. After that we agreed on a tie, cause I accually lost, but he lost about twice as many points from the 30 minutes of my hunt and kill sprees.

They're terrific - especially the flamethrower malfunction... the flames have eaten through the troopers legs, and the glow of the flames is also present. And the plasma is just gory fun... eh :hmm:

Yep! Them Damn Damned Chaos warriors! Always runnin' around disobeying the rules of war! Shooting medics and razin' villages.

EDIT:
Woot! I just got another person in town to join our WH club... type group thingy (we are trying to get a teacher to sponser their room for us), He was stuck between the Wood Elves and the Brettonians, I think I got him to lead towards the Lady of the Lake. (We already have a welves army player)

He's getting kind of annoying really. He keeps on asking stuff like:

If I buy the guys, will you model and paint them?
No. A great part of the game is the satisfaction that you get from fielding an army that you have put your blood(From accidents with your tools), sweat, and tears(From the accidents), into making.
What are the rules.
It's complicated...
What, like chess?
Like chess to the seventh power

He's a cool guy, and yes, if we go back into the ages to when we first discovered the meaning of life, I think we can see ourselves like him(though not so annoying).

Played a HUGE battle today: Eldar/Necrons/Orks/Tau/Tyranids vs. Imperial Guard/Witch Hunters

The reason for the lopsidedness was the Baneblade, which (if the IG/WH had won the roll for the first turn) could have proved the difference. it did not fire once, however, for the whole game, thanks to the tau hammerhead and eldar fire prism that fired at it every turn, keeping it stunned knocking out several weapons (the two lascannons and the heavy bolter, before the bolter got repaired by servitors).

the only kills it managed was when it was assaulted by two wraithlords, an avatar, my warboss and two kommandos. the result was a cataclysmic explosion that wounded all units in a 15" range on a 2+!!

highlights included my bikes wiping out a lascannon squad with their twin-linked big shootas, and then after the other four bikes were annihilated by bolter fire from a squad and a tank, the nob mowed down all but one of the bolter squad, and that one was killed when the tank he was standing next to blew up.

the kommandos, with their tankbusta bombz, took on a penitent engine, scoring five penetrating hits from 6 attacks, and killed it three times!

after my warboss' trukk was destroyed, he managed to roll 6,5,4 and 5 for subsequent movements (his mega armour means he moves as if through Difficult Terrain all the time) and he and the surviving nob massacred sisters repentia and saint celestine (or whatever her name is) with the assistance of a unit of warp spiders.

while i held the left flank with five bikes, two trukks, a buggy, two zzap guns and a mob of boyz, and with the support of the warp spiders and the fire prism and hammerhead, the gaunts and genestealers (with a broodlord), a tau stealth squad and kroot took the right flank (assaulting into fortifications) and were backed up by two squads of fire warriors, three crisis suits and a broadside battlesuit.

the centre of our attack comprised of the avatar, two wraithlords, two killa kans and the nightbringer, backed up by 'ard boyz, burna boyz, slugga boyz, shoota boyz, necron immortals and warriors and three tyranid warriors. quite the intimidating sight for the puny 'oomies.

in the end, once the baneblade was destroyed, the guard player admitted defeat was certain and surrendered.

all of this could have been reversed if we had lost the first turn roll. both my mobs of boyz would have been devastated if the baneblade had been able to fire. it was also handy that out of the 7 tanks he had (basilisk, 2 leman russ, leman russ demolisher, chimera, hellhound and baneblade), at least four of them were at least stunned per turn, meaning the only firepower he was able to dish out was anywhere near frightening was from heavy weapons

anyway, good game, nice to get a win and now off to bed :)

Hi guys, I found a picture of this great diorama of the Siege of Terra battle during the Horus Heresy, thought I should share.
http://www.fortunecity.com/athena/ginsberg/2176/05220580.jpg

Also, some funny stuff:

I adore that diorama of the Emperor, Sanguinius, and Horus. Sanguinius is all "OH JESUS I'M BLEEDING." and the Emperor is all "Dude, I know." and Sanguinius is like "My dying wish...is that...my chapter be brutally overpowered...in...third edition.." and the Emperor was all "That's cool."
