View Full Version : What's Your Army?
DragonBird Mar 04, 2008, 11:42 AM Another Defeat!!! :(
First of all, my friend and I played against his father. This guy doesn't understand the core/special/rare units thing. :(
My friend(I'll call him Matt from now on) and I controlled around 1,500 pt armies of Helves and Gobbos. I had my spears and archers... and my not painted swordies. Matt had a crap-load of spears, and a unit of wolfies, and his command unit of black orcs. :)
His father(I'll call him Rob for now) controlled a 3,000 pt army of Empire and Dwarfs. He had some Halberds, Spears, Rifles(umies and dwarfs)- basically a few infantry blocks. He also had about a gazillion cannons. :(
The worst part for me and Matt was that Rob had the high ground w/ a fort! ("What the @#&% is this?!" was my initial reaction) He also had range finders for each of the gazillion cannons. We had some trees to hide in. (for those who don't already realize it, trees don't stop cannonballs, but they do impede movement! Yes!) :(
Ok... long story short... The most casualties inflicted on him were caused by malfunctions. No thats a lie. :)
My swordies carved through 2 enemy regiments (:)) before being hit by about 8 cannons :( (apparently, they were a threat)
The Wolfies managed to get around the dwarfs (:))(not easy) and wreck 1 cannon. :) Then they got hit in the side by angry dwarf cannons. :(
My archers put a big dent in their riflemen :), before getting slaughtered be cannon fire :( (seeing a pattern?).
In case you were wondering the Black Orcs were hit by a Flame Cannon and a Grudge Thrower on the first turn :). They had around 3 guys left:(. But they did route a spear regiment thanks to a fear causing item... It was funny:D. Then they tasted some more cannon fire.:(
All in all... He won decisivly
Stormrage Mar 04, 2008, 04:26 PM Well.. after I saw the first two paragraphs, I knew what would be in the rest of the text :)
I like them cannons. Empire cannons are one of the biggest reasons I would like the Civ AI to use them properly.. I don`t care much for other artillery (modern, catapults, etc).
DragonBird Mar 04, 2008, 08:16 PM He lost 4 cannons in major malfunctions (now they are craters). We took out 2. And he still had enough to wipe the floor with us.
LizardmenRule! Mar 05, 2008, 05:04 AM Bit unfair he got high ground AND a fort
I guess thats the fantasy version of an Imperial Armoured Artillery Company :D
DragonBird Mar 05, 2008, 06:27 PM Yep. It was a little unfair.
mrtn Mar 05, 2008, 08:53 PM Which models would you consider to be ugly? Since i am having a very hard time trying to understand what they look like looking at the GW site's pics...
I am thinking of buying a cold one knights unit, and a warrior regiment.Well, that's the thing, you're the one who have to decide what you think is ugly. There's a site called www.druchii.net, and while I've heard that they're a bit elitist I'm sure you can find a lot of beautifully painted dark elves there.
What is the difference in using a pointed and a square brush?
(i am teh n00b i know) ;)
Most of the time you want as fine a point on your brush as possible. This gives the best control on where the paint ends up. This is the reason a lot of people lick their brushes.
To add to the n00b questions...
What glue works best when assembling plastic models?
I only use super glue. Loctite Super Attak from the hardware store.
Bit unfair he got high ground AND a fort
...Why did you allow him to get a fort then?
There are special siege rules, they usually say that the defenders get half the points of the attackers...
I started a painting blog (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126821) on Warseer too, a bit more concentrated than the Herdstone one. I can't remember if I posted my herdstone at CFC, but you can find it there if you want.
At the moment I'm working on Chaos Knights, minotaurs and cultists.
Yui108 Mar 05, 2008, 08:56 PM technically he shouldn't shoot at you when your in the forest because he can't ''see you''...
Stormrage Mar 05, 2008, 11:57 PM Some RL WH players pointed out to me that they moved on to LOTR cos of dumb things like "seetrough" forrests... I wouldn`t know tho, I`m not familiar with the detailed rules..

Maybe the game was a sort of "last stand" in reverse (let's call it "last effort"). Pretty lame, I know.
I'm also interested in how the Helves & gobbos got to attack together the human&dwarf fort? What an unlikely alliance :crazyeye:
A new painting blog? Cool. I atleast knew about the herdstone, but haven't visited there in about 10 months or so.
LizardmenRule! Mar 06, 2008, 02:28 AM The only way i see greenskins and elves fighting together is if the elves were having a go at the dwarfs (cos of that whole hatred thing0 and the greenies just so happened to be attacking the empire, and the empire and the dwarfs just kinda backed into each other
of course, once the oomies and stunties were dead, the elves would be next...
Varwnos Mar 06, 2008, 02:25 PM Ok, i had a look at some painting guides. Still only a few, but at least i got some ideas. "Non- metallic metal" impressed me the most, although it would need some work with figuring out the light patterns. Anyway i will buy some dark elves and try to paint them decently.

Not to sound like a jerk (which I'll probably do anyway... :crazyeye: ), but learn to walk before you try to run. Getting the paint in the right place with a few highlights should be plenty of work in the start. I'm afraid of NMM.
The rule about forests is that you can only see through up to 2 inches. You should also treat the whole "forest base" as dense forest, regardless of if you can actually see between the plastic trees or not.
Varwnos Mar 06, 2008, 02:47 PM Yeah i trust you are right. They just look so nice :D
Painting is difficult. It needs a very steady hand, and all those fine lines in NMM definately would be very hard, if not impossible for me alltogether atm.
My immediate goal is to paint something that does not look too horrible ;)

Good luck painting your models, Varwnos. I can't wait to see the finished product.
I've just purchased some super glue and am working on assembling my models. I should have a (somewhat) coherent force by the end of the weekend.
Speaking of the weekend, Millennium Games (a hobby store that does 40k) holds Warhammer introductions every Saturday, so I'm going to participate in that. They supply the models and rulebooks, so newbies like me can learn the game.
Varwnos Mar 06, 2008, 06:08 PM Well up to now the only model i painted in a way i liked was in a short story of mine
It was a wolf, by the way. And you could see the blood on its teeth ;)
DragonBird Mar 06, 2008, 07:05 PM It wasn't so much as a fort as it was a couple baracades in front of the cannons.

They have something similar, or so I thought, overhere. I snooped by and it was 100% kids, 9year olds and such. I talked to a few grown guys roaming around, but it really couldn`t force myself to sit down among them
I met a few people that could teach me, tho. I just need € to start the friggin hobby..
Varwnos Mar 07, 2008, 12:07 PM I am not even thinking of getting into the war-game thing. I am interested in learning to paint the models, but just so i can keep them in my library :)
Btw i noticed that some (definately greatly painted) models are being sold for thousants of pounds. I never knew that this hobby is so organised.
Mrtn: do you have any tutorial to suggest to me? I am trying to understand (still) dry-painting, shadows and highlights. Also which color to use over which, since i noticed that painting flesh over black base does not work very well. Currently i thought of first painting over the black undercoat with silver, or grey, and then paint the flesh. Got any tip about that? :)
Also the eyes are way too difficult for me atm. How did you learn to paint the ones in your models?

Millennium Games, from what I've seen, has players of a variety of ages. Most seem to be in their late teens, but there are some younger and some older. I'll see how it goes tomorrow, though.

No particular tutorial. You could post up your pics on a forum or two, and see if you can get some feedback.
Yes, some (mostly lighter) colours don't cover black very well. So you do it gradually, start with a brown, then a beige, and then your flesh paint.
I always start with the metals, this way any dry brushed metal will be covered by later painting. After that I do everything else that should be dry brushed, and finish with the stuff that is just painted. Sloppy things first.
Eyes: brace your elbows on the table, and look the figure "in the eye" when painting the eyes. It's good if the pupil touches the upper or lower edge, otherwise it looks like he's staring.
DragonBird Mar 07, 2008, 07:47 PM I find it easier if I place the model on the table, and take a snake light to help me see.
But eyes are reletively simple. But it does take practice.
First I put two thin slightly overlapping dots where the eye is. Wait for it to dry, then put one, even smaller, black dot between the two white ones. I lean the black dot towards the front of the model just a tad bit.
Robert Can't Mar 08, 2008, 02:52 AM I first learnt to paint shadows when painting my questing knights. There good models. My skaven are coming along nicely but my lizardmen aren't.going to well. I have started a new army a army of carthy

A Excelent piece of work.:goodjob:

CC-2224 Mar 08, 2008, 05:22 PM Well, the introduction I attended today was fairly interesting. I played against two other guys about my age using the instructor's personal Space marine army. Each side had 1000 points. I had a squad of Terminators (with power fists) and two tactical squads, each with one model with some kind of rocket launcher. I also had a Razorback tank. My opponents had two Dreadnoughts to make up for the Terminators, a Razorback tank, and two tactical squads.
During shooting, I kept rolling ones and twos which stopped me from inflicting much damage. Early on, I lost my Razorback to my opponents' Razorback and Dreadnought :(. During the cc, however, my Terminators excelled, and they took out the Razorback, one of the Terminators, and an entire tactical squad :). My other squads, who were hiding in a crater in some woods, had whittled down the other squad to three men. At that point I won, since the remaining time would have been spent "mopping up" the remnants of their army.
It was a fun game, though slow, as the instructor went through the rules as we played and stopped to show us things along the way. Afterwards, he answered questions about painting and gluing models and creating armies. I got some glue and a primer, and I'm hoping to finish assembling my army by the end of the month.
The guys I were playing against were a little annoying, though. They were constantly asking about the special models and trying to take "big steps" into buying all the cool stuff before they had even taken the "baby steps" of assembling a working force.
DragonBird Mar 08, 2008, 09:31 PM Sounds awesome.
I just received word from "Matt" that the Hobby store that I go to with have some ~Pro Painters~ stop by and give pointers this Wednesday.
I badly want to show up. But I might not be able to. I have a big english report.
CC-2224 Mar 09, 2008, 06:56 AM Hurry! Finish that report!
DragonBird Mar 09, 2008, 02:28 PM Yep, I'm working on it.
CC-2224 Mar 12, 2008, 04:58 PM Okay, I've finished assembling the majority of my units, and now I'm working on a color scheme. I've been planning on painting them like tigers, undercoating them white, and then giving painting the carapaces orange with black stripes. I might even include some black stripes on the white bodies. The teeth and weapons would be yellow, with a black band near the tip, and red tips.
Honestly, I don't think it would be too complicated since I can leave the undercoat for the majority of the model and simply focus on a few colors for the carapace, teeth and weaponry. Opinions?
Stormrage Mar 12, 2008, 05:09 PM Teeth? Carapace? What army are you collecting? Tyranids?
DragonBird Mar 12, 2008, 05:44 PM Its Nids...
Yesterday, I learned that the Hobby store made a misprint in their flyers. Its next week. Which sucks, because thats spring break, and I was going to visit family until friday. Grr! :aargh:
kluthe Mar 13, 2008, 07:20 AM I collect Tau, I have a force pack, in addition to a Fire Warrior squad, Vespid squad, and a Devilfish and am still working on it.
DragonBird Mar 13, 2008, 07:05 PM Sounds awesome. Post pics!
LizardmenRule! Mar 14, 2008, 03:35 AM Bought myself Ghazgull today, so i can have a proper mega armoured warboss. not out of the box yet tho, so i'll let you know how it goes... He'll probably be standing on a pile of SM and IG tho :D
DragonBird Mar 14, 2008, 12:50 PM He'll probably be standing on a pile of SM and IG tho :D
Well, naturaly of course. You want to be as politically correct as you can these days ;)
Quinzy Mar 14, 2008, 05:34 PM I found a bunch of my friends old BA marines and termies, as well as a Logan Grimnar he had. He's since moved to England a few years back, so i've decided to honour our old wargaming days by converting them into my CSM army! :)
Stormrage Mar 14, 2008, 05:58 PM Converting SM to CSM? Now thats something I wanna see. I still have that Tactical Squad and I am not sure if I will convert them, make SMs, or use them for CSM basing and stuff like that..
Of course.. by the time I get my lazy butt to actually start this hobby proper, they will be worth selling as antique and rare models..
LizardmenRule! Mar 14, 2008, 06:26 PM I've recently been playing Gears of War, and thought while playing it would be cool to make a SM Kill Team or something that looked like them
mrtn Mar 14, 2008, 09:47 PM I just finished my 6 man unit of chaos knights, including an OOP guy with a lance, and my converted drummer (can't have a musician with a horn and a full helmet, how silly is that? :crazyeye: ). I also finished two minotaurs, one of them female. Next up is some cultists (I'll use them as marauders). :)
Varwnos Mar 15, 2008, 03:38 AM Any pics? :)
I still have not bought my dark elf unit.
MooseWarrior Mar 15, 2008, 09:55 AM I played a game the other day..... against myself.:p
2000 pts of Ogres vs. 2000 points of Lizardmen. For a while I thought my Ogres were gonna win their 1st game, but the Lizardmen pulled through and destroyed the Ogres in Close Combat in 4th-6th turns. The most amusing moment was when the Ogre's Scraplauncher shot at some fleeing Skinks and missed just in front of them.
Close Combat was hard for the Lizardmen, because the Ogres just kept regenerating their wounds. Evil Ogre Magic! But the Lizardmen evetually got some Ogres to flee, and chased them down. The Slavegiant on the Ogres side Yelled and Bawled 3 turns in a row, and eventually the Saurus with spears ran. If anyone want to see the lists I used, please ask.
I would post pictures of my armies, but I don't have a digital camera....:(
Quinzy Mar 15, 2008, 02:00 PM Well i'm going to leave some of the models as SM, and make a little Kill-Team out of them (Death Company Blood Angels) and fix up all the broken bits first, but the Terminators and the remaining marines will be Chaosified.
DragonBird Mar 16, 2008, 01:04 AM Gears eh? I've played up till the part where you get the "hammer of dawn" or whatever. And now that you mention it they kind of remind me of SM. Probably scouts though, not enough armor. Also ~ The chainsaw bayonet... What fun.
YAY!
Me and my friends (including Matt) are starting a campaign! Pretty simple stuff ~ but we are going to keep the battles under 2000 pts.
LizardmenRule! Mar 16, 2008, 03:08 AM I'm gonna have to give some nobs chainsaw bayonets now :)
I think the first time you use the Hammer is the first encounter with a Berserker, isnt it?
Sounds like fun. Is there a story behind the campaign?
mrtn Mar 16, 2008, 06:29 PM Any pics? :)
I still have not bought my dark elf unit.
There are pics now...
The whole knight unit is finished, including an OOP guy with a lance, and also a converted drummer. I couldn't have a musician with a horn and a full face helmet, that's just stupid.
As they are so dark I couldn't get a shot without flash, so you'll have to make do.

I don`t like the Minotaur minis much, tho you did a nice conversion :) I heard they will get new minis soon for Minotaurs and Dragon Ogres.

Oh, well, they fit in nicely with GW ones :) The Knights are Undecided, not Khorne, right?
mrtn Mar 16, 2008, 09:00 PM Oh, well, they fit in nicely with GW ones :) The Knights are Undecided, not Khorne, right?
Well, you see, most of the units in my army has the Mark Of the Strange Symbol. Thus any unit with MOSS™ can be used as Undecided or Khorne or Tzeentch or whatever I want to. :)
I played a 1000 pts game a while ago against a friend and totally massacred his Lizardmen (they didn't Rule ;)). I had 5 undivided chosen knights who killed his unit of saurus and when they finally broke they overran into his skinkpriest and killed both. Used a unit of 10 Khornegors too who also killed whatever they met. At the end of turn 4 (?) he only had his general left. :D
Stormrage Mar 16, 2008, 09:15 PM Yay! We rarely hear war stories from Unky Mrtn :)
Khornegors? Have we seen pics of them? :hmm:

Well, there are pics in my painting diaries at the Herdstone and Warseer... and I've linked to those. Those threads are ongoing, so it's happened a lot to the thread I linked to in the first page (or whatever it was) of this thread.
BTW, these guys too have the MOSS™. Most recent pics are here (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/Bestigors5.jpg), here (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/Bestigors4.jpg) and here (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/Bestigors3.jpg).
Stormrage Mar 16, 2008, 09:37 PM Ach, the MOSS thingy got me fooled, probably. I was expecting something more.. Khorne :)
I played around with the Army Editor in Mark of Chaos just now. Its not the same, not even remotely as fun as when you have the paintbrush in your hand..
LizardmenRule! Mar 17, 2008, 01:10 AM They look great! I like the Minotaurs, actually, although the left most one looks a little too scrawny, but since thats the female one thats fine ;)
The knights look awesome :wow:
Nice pun too :D
Varwnos Mar 17, 2008, 01:59 AM The knights are great :)
How many colors did you use per metallic surface? Since in the pics (maybe it is the lighting?) there seem to be more than one.
Quinzy Mar 17, 2008, 10:02 AM Many people use more than one colour for their metallics, for instance, base it with Tin Bitz, drybrush Boltgun Metal, Ink it Chestnut brown, drybrush it Boltgun Metal again, and line-hilight Chainmail or Mythril Silver.
mrtn Mar 17, 2008, 02:32 PM The knights are great :)
How many colors did you use per metallic surface? Since in the pics (maybe it is the lighting?) there seem to be more than one.Thanks.
It's very easy to paint like that, I just paint it Tinny Tin (Vallejo version of Tin Bitz) and then drybrush with Gunmetal.
However, I take care to do this the first I do on the mini, as having tiny silver dots all over looks crap. If you dry brush a brown or something later on it won't kill you if you get brown on your metal (that's just dirt ;)), but having metal other places shows up really well.
Also, this looks best if you're having dirty rusty metal, I wouldn't do it on dwarfs or elves.
@LMR!: Thanks.
LizardmenRule! Mar 19, 2008, 03:54 AM I've put together Ghazghul (but his name is still Pee-Joo). I've going to give him the Black Orc totem head (like the other mega armoured ork i have). i had to trim it down a bit to make it fit and make it square to the bottom of Ghazzy's jaw. i'm not putting it on until i have painted it tho, to make it easier
i'll post a pick later :D

DragonBird Mar 21, 2008, 10:21 AM Ok I found one that accurately portrays the "chainsaw bayonet" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lhXFsLMyWg&feature=related)
Its completely correct! Warhammer and Total War! The best part are the ridicously long campaigns. But it does look very cool. (I wish I had a computer that could run MTW 2)

DragonBird Mar 24, 2008, 10:40 PM In other news . . .
I got rid of all but 2 of the units I have been trying to sell (Yay!)
I also got myself a mean green firebreathing machine in other words a dragon.
The bad thing was that I got a little trigger happy and glued most of it together before I washed all the pieces. Now the glue that I was using to connect the metal to plastic joints is getting all tempermental. No big though - I didn't mar any of the surfaces. But the worst thing was that I forgot to trim all the mold lines and imperfections. So I will have an epic battle of the "hobby knife not doing what i want it to so I will have to pull out the powertools and start chopping." By "power tools" I mean different sizes and shapes of exato knifes.
LizardmenRule! Mar 25, 2008, 02:20 AM The key words there are "mean" and "green". remind you of something? ;)
Yeah, i go all out sometimes too, then i realise it is gonna be hard to paint, most often after the gluing...
Stormrage Mar 25, 2008, 10:44 AM Ach, so ye be doin a green drake, eh? I thought Helves used White ones..
DragonBird Mar 25, 2008, 10:44 PM And the yellow ones and the blue ones. :p But not this guy. My particular army hails from one of the last great colonies Ilith-Endarie (though of that myself :))
But anyways... The plastic bits will not fit together out of the box. I had to sand/cut off every "peg" on the guy before he would go together. And on top of that - None, absolutley none of the metal extras will work either - The metal jaw on the plastic neck(the only neck) makes for an overbite the size of Minnisota. So... painfully I made the decision to make it an all plastic dragon. I was really going for the - What the hell is this made out of?! - response when people pick it up.
The glue I am using on the rider refuses to set within a 2 year long time frame. That means I will have to do MAJOR surgery on the guy to make it stick. All in all, it could have been worse - not much though ;)
and to answer LMR - Is it the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
LizardmenRule! Mar 25, 2008, 11:01 PM i've never had problems with plastic not fitting, but both my kanz and ghazzie needed filing to fit the pieces together: the two halves of the body in the case of the kanz, and the iron gob "holders" for ghazzie
speaking of ghazzie, he is primed and i have begun painting him. he is going to be predominately black, with several yellow and white armour plates, then bare metal for the moving bits and pieces like pistons and most of the "engine" thing on his back
and to answer DB - I was thinking the Grinch ;)

DragonBird Mar 26, 2008, 05:23 PM I think he mispelled forum...
Wow, I am juvenile. I've been poaring through dragon related pages like a hormone crazed teenager goes through "Hot Babes" magazine.
But anyways - I was about half way through priming my dragon when I realized that I still haven't trimmed off the mold imperfections.
But now, the dragon is suffering through my incompetence quite well - I must say all the modifications may have made the glue stronger. The sucker is together.
Anyways! I brought in new fresh blood! I found another guy who will take up a Chaos (Worshippers) army. Some new stuff is going to happen.
Stormrage Mar 26, 2008, 05:31 PM I find it strange that theres a warhammer form on a website for a bestselling sires of games witch have very little to do with warhammer
K, I knew the Scots had trouble speaking understandable english, :p but I had no idea what you were talking about untill the guys started replying. I thought it was refering to Warhammer: Total War :crazyeye:
As for Civ3 having very little to do with Warhammer.. you obviously don`t follow the modding progress of this community :)
The Warhammer mod is one of the best (or The Best for some people) mods for Civ3 out there. And I hear the Civ4 guys are doing a good job too. We created this subforum to make it easier to exchange ideas for the WH40k mod.
LizardmenRule! Mar 26, 2008, 07:52 PM But of course, this thread is for the actual hobby, rather than the mod
Stormrage Mar 26, 2008, 08:01 PM Yes, but he said forum. Well, sort of..
LizardmenRule! Mar 27, 2008, 01:01 AM "Form" actually, but i get the point :)
Speaking of Scots and English: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKA_LxHEyPo
btw, i know he isnt scottish, but its good anyway
Stormrage Mar 27, 2008, 05:58 AM I watch all 10 episodes of that once every week :)
DragonBird Mar 27, 2008, 08:16 PM Wow... I could never do that. I might get the non-alcoholic hangover.
My Gragon (Dragon + Green) has been officially been nicknamed - BBQ - We had a skirmish. There were no more gobbos. Only roasted gobbos. And filleted gobbos. And extra rare ones too. All in all - Gragon was well fed, and the so will the follow up force of black orcs. (Or so says "Matt")
Robert Can't Mar 28, 2008, 03:12 AM K, I knew the Scots had trouble speaking understandable english, :p but I had no idea what you were talking about untill the guys started replying. I thought it was refering to Warhammer: Total War :crazyeye:

LizardmenRule! Mar 28, 2008, 03:40 AM Most people here will say "hell yes, its awesome!" but you should download and play it for yourself :) ;)
Stormrage Mar 28, 2008, 05:25 PM Hell yes, its awesome!
Here is the link to it. Enjoy! :)

DragonBird Mar 28, 2008, 08:22 PM "Hell yes, its awesome!" there's a link to it... up there.
Yay! I have finally trimmed up my dragon - but his head is listing ever so slowly to the right(our right - his left) and I have moved it back and put another quart of plastic glue on his neck.
mrtn Mar 28, 2008, 10:53 PM "Hell yes, it's awesome!"
...but then again I might be viewed as slightly biased. ;)
I haven't painted in a while, but tomorrow I'll go home to a friend and spend a while painting. Should start to tackle my cultists then.
Robert Can't Mar 29, 2008, 01:13 AM Well i will have a go
I am from SCOTLAND
DragonBird Mar 29, 2008, 11:29 PM I don't think it's biased if everyone smart agrees with us. ;)
DragonBird Apr 03, 2008, 09:25 PM Update on Gragon...
I've decided the the scales that are around his spines will be scab red/gore red. The model and rider just seemed to... 'green' I might also add blazing orange/blood red warpaint (probably runes of somesort) on his wings, claws, and face.
As it stands - very few things in Warhammer give me as much pleasure as putting down a flame template on a horde squirming green-things and inhaling burnt flesh and fear.
That tied with the 'after game' chocolate cake ;)
LizardmenRule! Apr 03, 2008, 09:48 PM Is this the new plastic dragon with the dragon leaping of a pile o' rocks? if it is, i killed one the other day when my mates decided they wanted to play fantasy. my orcs and gobbos and skaven vs empire and high elves.
very unbalanced in their favour, but i managed to kill two dragons and a couple of griffons (including karl franz, who died against a giant who spent most of the game yelling and headbutting), as well as a handful of both helf and empire units.
DragonBird Apr 04, 2008, 06:06 PM But did ya win? No... its the old one - with new plastic bits.
Woot! Gragon feasts again...
First of all we were playing a 'who-cares-about-points-I-just-want-to-have-some-fun' game.
I had Gragon and 2 units of 20 Lothern Seaguard. Matt had a Gazzillion gobbos - but one pack of ten or so wolf-riders.
We rolled to see who was first: I rolled a 2, Matt rolled a 6.
So we deployed... Matt picked the side with trees (he reasoned that it gave him more space to place his troops and also gave a nice defense against flyers and arrows) I was stuck on the high ground with a few wooden fences (soft cover and impedes movement).
Anyways, He deployed 2 groups of forty gobbos w/ bows in front of his 2 groups of forty gobbos w/ spears, one of which had the general. His wolfies were deployed on the side (2 enchaladas with a side of mexican rice ;)).
But anyways I moved up Gragon and left my seaguard behind.
I flew Gragon into a clearing that happened to be right next to the spears w/out the general and got a crapload (3) of fanatics launched a me. they actually got through my defense and did 3 wounds to the fire drake. Gragon had his vengence when he toasted the fanatics and killed a few spears with his fire. the cowards ran like the little goblins they are.
Everything else was pretty elementary from then on.
I flew Gragon back to my forces - and showered the marching gobbos with arrows. I actually had some problems from the wolves (they flank one of my units and started dealing damage) but a timely charge from Gragon saved the day.
In the end Matt resigned. And my casualties were about medium. But here are the 'exact' casualties
High Elves
General and Gragon - Wounded
LSG Reg. 1 - 6 KIA
LSG Reg. 2 - 15 KIA (Ouch)
Goblins
General - Hiding
Spears Reg. 1 - 26 KIA ~ Routed
Spears Reg. 2 - 3 KIA ~ Hiding w/ General
Archers Reg. 1 - 5 KIA ~ Routed
Archers Reg. 2 - 17 KIA ~ Routed
Wolf Riders - 12 KIA ~ No survivors
I'll start giving casualty reports as well as battle summaries.

LizardmenRule! Apr 06, 2008, 08:11 PM The skaven surprised me a LOT, a pack of about forty with a warpfire thrower attached devastated his hellblaster cannon and the pack looked like it somehow scared the imperial player

DragonBird Apr 07, 2008, 04:32 PM I've been looking at Tau stuff and I really like the models ~ just as much as I like the Eldar... I've been skimming the rules too. I love everything except their leadership ~ they just can't take damage without fleeing. Another disadvantage for the 'tau' is the close combat phase. But that can be ironed out.
LizardmenRule! Apr 07, 2008, 11:56 PM yeah, close combat is what the kroot are for! I've used tau a couple of times before Waaagh! Pee-Joo was big enough to fend for itself. the hammerhead usually performed well, with the help of the pathfinders, and the fire warriors gave me some much needed dakka
now i have shootas and lootas, and im gonna pick up some russes tomorrow to make looted wagons. hello large blast markers! :D
kluthe Apr 08, 2008, 03:19 PM don't forget about the Vespids, and what is a Pee-Joo?
LizardmenRule! Apr 08, 2008, 04:58 PM ork armies - or Waaaghs - often take the name of their Warboss, such as Waaagh Ghazghull or Waaagh Gutsmek
And my Warboss's name is Pee-Joo, cos that is a crude pronunciation of my last name: Pigou
:D
DragonBird Apr 08, 2008, 05:37 PM Pee-Joo, somehow the name strikes me as... smelly.
Yes, my High Elves have suffered another defeat. Sorry about this, but it was a quick game and I didn't record anything.
In short I traded arrow fire with the gobbos (they had the high ground) and they managed to reduce my rank bonus and then hit me with the wolves in the back and the archers from the front. My lord was riding a horse this time (It gave me a few more men) and was badly out of position and the Lothern Seaguard were slowly whitled away. They fought bravely and took around 30 goblins with them. I managed to route the spears my general was fighting - I had him detach and run down the cowards while my spears reformed to face the coming enemies only to be FLANKED AGAIN! :aargh:
I fought to the bitter end ~ But I managed to get my General back into my unit and challenged the gobbo general (tee hee :D) and he declined. Coward.
In the end I lost... it was those damn wolves.

DragonBird Apr 09, 2008, 01:27 AM Whats with the necron :p
Your guys are shiny... Personally I don't like too much metallic paints on my models. I think that the concept of uber-shiny has been overused. I prefer to give my guys laquered armor. But hey, they look cool.
Update on Gragon. I've got most of the stuff ironed out - right now I'm adding some extra coats of red paint (red paint is the worst concept since boxed styrofoam). Right now he looks too... Plastic. All the paints are doing remarkably well (except red) and it looks to uniform. I'm going to try to add hardly noticable splotches to him. I will also add dirt to his claws and spines. I just want him to look less like plastic model that came out of a factory (which it did... kinda messed that one up) and more like a real (small) flesh and bones dragon.
Stormrage Apr 09, 2008, 04:58 AM Nice minis you have there! :goodjob:
LizardmenRule! Apr 09, 2008, 07:36 AM I agree! I'm gonna have to loot some tau weaponry for my lootas! :D
kluthe Apr 09, 2008, 03:40 PM the necron is one of my auxiliaries, one of my friends had a couple extra sprues and let me have it, only it didn't have enough parts to build more than one, I also have 5 attack scarabs, but their broken.
kluthe Apr 09, 2008, 04:14 PM oh yeah, LizardmenRule!, I put up a join request for this Mod
LizardmenRule! Apr 10, 2008, 04:39 AM Approved :)
I have bought the Leman Russ squadron box, containing three Russes, and another box of Lootas. i'm also building some of my own lootas, to add some diversity.
i've almost finished one, using a big shoota, an imperial grenade launcher and a small rocket from the lootas sprue, and a second one using the hunter-killer missile and heavy bolter sponson from the russ sprue
Stormrage Apr 10, 2008, 04:50 AM Okay, why the hell didn`t Games Workshop come up with this already??

Are they removed by a rocket propelled chainsaw by any chance? :mischief:
LizardmenRule! Apr 10, 2008, 09:44 PM I'm gonna have to make a RPC now that you've posted that!
Oh, and nice trees mrtn  is that an arm in the middle in the second pic?
mrtn Apr 10, 2008, 09:50 PM Thanks mates.
Yes, that's a skeletal arm poking up there... There's also a half buried shield right by the leftmost tree in the first pic. :)
kluthe Apr 11, 2008, 04:47 PM sweet paint job
DragonBird Apr 11, 2008, 08:19 PM what would the rules for a RPC be...
Hits based on BS ~ Always wounds on a 4+, and rerolls failed wounds ~ -2 to armor. (I wanna try that bad boy out.)
Or would it be shooting with a chainsword?
I like the trees on base idea... I'm gonna have to use that. Do you guys know if they sell extra bases? I've never seen them.
LizardmenRule! Apr 11, 2008, 09:22 PM Yeah, you can buy packs of small round or square slot bases, and you get tonnes of them. im not sure about the larger bases, but i presume they have them too
EDIT: As for the RPC stats, a chainsaw flying at a gizillion miles an hour should penetrate most armour, but probably not vehicle armour, so maybe 24" inch range, Str 6, AP 1, Heavy weapon?
Harald Apr 12, 2008, 01:29 AM Yeah, you can buy packs of small round or square slot bases, and you get tonnes of them. im not sure about the larger bases, but i presume they have them too
EDIT: As for the RPC stats, a chainsaw flying at a gizillion miles an hour should penetrate most armour, but probably not vehicle armour, so maybe 24" inch range, Str 6, AP 1, Heavy weapon?
Maybe make it so that it can only glance non open-topped vehicles? That makes it a bit less effective against vehicles.
LizardmenRule! Apr 12, 2008, 02:25 AM Or have a -1 modifier to the Damage Chart roll. Or both.
I've made another loota, this time it is armed with a kombo of lascannon (from russ sprue), lasgun (from guard sprue) and a burna (duh, burna sprue :p), then it uses a burna backpack to bulk out the shoulder mount, and part of the imperial communications thingy from the command sprue you get in apocolypse boxes. the comm thing is a power pack and is linked by a few cables to the burna pack
photos of the lootas and the new warboss, and anything else i have made but cant remember, will be posted soon
oh, and im facing either the black templars or chaos marines tomorrow night. hopefully, with at least one looted wagon and large amounts of dakka from the lootas, i'll be able to crush them this time
DragonBird Apr 12, 2008, 10:23 AM Ok... Gragon has been neglected for about a week now. I think he's getting hungry. But anyways, I think I found someone that will buy the rest of my unwanted units.
Showing that the Tau have skills (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKIcKnfrJPw)
Then there are these guys. Blue Table Painting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYIlM_tVphA&feature=related)
I love the magnet weapons. Thats awesome. But since I don't play 40k I don't really need it. It's nice to see the pros at work for pointers.
Stormrage Apr 12, 2008, 02:37 PM Yeah, Tau are great, I like all the shootiness they can handle :)
kluthe Apr 13, 2008, 12:24 PM yes, Tau are excellent at ranged combat, but they are horrible at close combat, with the exception of O'Shovah's forces.
LizardmenRule! Apr 14, 2008, 03:11 AM Well, a report on the battle with chaos
2100 points game vs chaos. my list included:
HQ
* 2 Warbosses, w/ Mega Armour, Cybork Bodies
Elites
* 12 Lootas

Heavy Support
* 2 Killa Kanz, w/ Big Shootas, Grot Riggers, Armour Plates
* 2 Zzap Gunz, w/ 3 Extra Crew
* Looted Wagon w/ Boomgun
Not sure exactly what was on the chaos list, but here is what i remember:
Chaos lord, sorceror, khorne berzerkers, landraider terminus, whirlwind, rhino w/ possessed troops, and several squads of chaos marines
as soon as i started i wished that i had taken more boyz, and maybe dropped the tankbustas or lootas. the lootas had a so-so game, rolling 1,1,3 and 2 for their number of shots each. the zzap gunz were useless, rolling 4,2,9 and 3 for its strength, and failed to dent the armour of the landraider.
things were looking grim until the two trukks let off their passengers, who then decimated a squad of marines and the possessed just as the main mob of boyz hit, massacring another marine squad.
but the man of the match was definately the looted wagon: not needing to roll to hit, large blast template, strength 7 and AP3 (negating marine armour saves!). it killed at least 20 marines in three turns, and it was a real eye-opener for my mate to be told he couldnt make any saves
in the end, he had the landraider, whirlwind and three marines against a trukk and the looted wagon, so we called it before he was able to destroy the wagon
Stormrage Apr 14, 2008, 09:00 AM Wait, wait, wait. Terminus and Whirlwind in a Chaos list? Did I miss a Chapter Aproved file? Homegrown rules? Apocalypse maybe?
LizardmenRule! Apr 14, 2008, 09:30 AM Well, he hasnt got a lot of points for chaos, so i let him combine chaos with some space marines stuff, which probably wasnt a smart move, but meh, it was fun (although frustrating when the dice gods hate you so ;p)
DragonBird Apr 14, 2008, 06:44 PM Maybe teh dudes were newly corrupted. Like my friend with CHAOS! :)
He got a couple knights and some mauraders and we had a team skirmish. All was awesome: 1000ish pts each. Empire and High Elves VS Chaos and Gobbos
Right in the middle of the map was a ruined old stone house (Hard cover/ Very difficult terrain/2nd floor high ground) There were some fences too. And a couple trees. Gotta be green.
I opted to go with a Noble instead of a prince so I could get more guys. All of them were Lothern Seaguard. My Noble had the support role. The Emps had about 50% riflemen (to kill armor saves) and 50% Swordies.
The gobbos had spears and bows - And the Chaos had close combat weapons.
Anyway - I rushed all my forces to the building and captured it. (the high movement come in handy)
The next turn I showered the closest goblins with accurate fire. I think about have of all the shots killed. It was awesome. The goblins fled into their brethren and made them flee too. Then the Emps reached the building. The broken down house was a turned into gun fort.
The Maruders were genuine cannon fodder and rushed the building only to be cut down by swords and spears. They did manage to kill a few swordies and spears, but it wasn't enough to cause alarm.
Then the Chaos Kinghts showed up and started hacking through the riflemen. In my turn I rushed up and joined the unit with my noble. (the unit was on the verge of decimation). I challenged the Choas General. The fight lasted two turns in which my Noble was cut down. His sacrifice was not in vain, the empire forces surrounded the dudes and killed them.
My archers and Matt's riflemen made short work of the stragglers.
Victory!
mrtn Apr 14, 2008, 08:47 PM I'm continuing to be productive:
I painted up those chaos dwarves I converted:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Mortals/chaosdwarves2.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Mortals/chaosdwarves3.jpg
I've also started on my cultists. With the new rumours about cultists for mortals I'm not sure what direction the unit should go (change them to GW or flails, or keep tham as marauders with HW and shield), but as the unit is very random it could be almost anything. I'll work on my "OOP beastmen as marauders with LA, HW and shield" unit in the mean time, until we know more.

ATM I'm painting up a couple of resin barbarian huts I got for cheap. They should be finished soon, they're quite easy to paint. :)
LizardmenRule! Apr 14, 2008, 09:00 PM Great work! I forget what you were going to use the Dwarfs as, or were they just for fun? Those cultists are fantastic!
DragonBird Apr 14, 2008, 09:23 PM those are magnifiacent...
mrtn Apr 14, 2008, 09:42 PM Thanks...
I may use the dwarfs as (human) Dogs of War cannon crew. That was the thought, at least.
Stormrage Apr 14, 2008, 10:40 PM Wow, those are great! Sweet conversions, mrtn!
Robert Can't Apr 15, 2008, 05:47 AM In My Lizardmen army I have lots of red crested skinks from the lustria expantion the red host I even have tehen... Thingy the prophet of sotec but i would like to have a engine of the god does anyone have some ideas for how to make one:confused:
Stormrage Apr 15, 2008, 06:04 AM There was a mention of the Engine in one issue of White Dwarf, made by one of the `Eavy Metal guys. Basicly he used a Forgeworld Kroot Great Knarloc Body and a Carnosaur head. The engine itself is not explained, but I suppose its green stuff?
Also, here is an interesting article about making one:
http://www.coolminiornot.com/111809
LizardmenRule! Apr 15, 2008, 08:06 AM I guess a stegadon could be used as the transport. there's no reason i can see why THAT particular creature needs to be used. for the engine bit, i seem to remember reading that different sized segments of pipe were used to build the gyroscope, with wire carefully placed to hold the gyroscope together, but also to keep them hidden as much as possible.
DragonBird Apr 15, 2008, 04:21 PM Engine... what like a steam tank? Thats the only connection I can find.
Stormrage Apr 15, 2008, 08:19 PM No, check the link in post 887
mrtn Apr 16, 2008, 01:33 PM Thanks mates.

They should fit my herdstone well, even though they're a tad small. I'll brush off the excess static grass, but other than that they're finished.
kluthe Apr 16, 2008, 03:33 PM he, what ever happened to the Ork squiggoth, it's not in the minature rane at the GW website?
Yoda Power Apr 16, 2008, 03:54 PM A long time lurker in this thread.
Mrtn you sohuld try and convert those huts into civ3 buildings, just take a picture from the right angle, and photoshop it. I think it would look great.
DragonBird Apr 16, 2008, 09:00 PM Ok.. I see it now... I'd like to try that with a mage. It would take some work finding a small enough globe. Although if you use a Slaan Mage Priest - awesome.
I've done some green stuff conversions...
First of all - Considering the cold enviorment from which my forces hail, I have started outfitting them with winter gear. I am actually considering snow shoes on the White Lions (If I ever get them). I have also given my general (dragon) a face mask. Kind of like a industrial strength hankerchief wrapped around his face like a bandit. I've done the same thing to the Shadow Warriors, and some of the spears. I have no idea of what I should do to the archers though...
EDIT: wait. I just thought of it. Glade Guard heads - They are hooded and some are already "scarffed"
If you guys have any other ideas of what I should do... please, I beg you, tell me.
mrtn Apr 17, 2008, 08:37 AM he, what ever happened to the Ork squiggoth, it's not in the minature rane at the GW website?
You have to get the resin model from Forge World. As usual with them it probably cost about the same as the budget of a third world country.
YP, is that a request?
Robert Can't Apr 17, 2008, 08:42 AM I found a gw article on how to make a engin of the gods but now whenever i click it it goes to the home page http://uk.games-workshop.com/conquestofthenewworld/
Harald Apr 17, 2008, 10:01 AM I found a gw article on how to make a engin of the gods but now whenever i click it it goes to the home page http://uk.games-workshop.com/conquestofthenewworld/
I tried to search for the article but I didn't find it I did however discover something else. And I ask why are the newer lizardmen models so ugly. My memory isn't perfect but from what I remember the ones I used to collect when I was younger where much more lizard-like and much nicer models (except for the slann which is very nice. I assume there has been some rule changes as well since the are not carried anymore?).
And the kroxigors just look like big fish with legs and arms. :(
EDIT: And why are the cold ones being ridden(sp?) by sauruses? :(
Quinzy Apr 17, 2008, 02:07 PM Because that's what Sauri ride?
Yoda Power Apr 17, 2008, 04:42 PM YP, is that a request?
No, since I don't have any use for it. It's just one of those things that would be cool to do. ;)
I once made citizen heads that way, with myself posing. It was fun, but completly useless.
The huts might find a place somewhere if they turn out cool though.
DragonBird Apr 17, 2008, 06:04 PM The reason teh saurus are riding cavalry is because in earlier editions of the Lizarddudes, one of the chief complaints was the lack of cavalry.

kluthe Apr 17, 2008, 09:49 PM oh, i almost forgot, i have another Necron auxiliary, this one with a Battlesuit flamer and a stripped down pulse carbine (cut off grenade launcher) and put the grenade launcher on the bottom of my "Tau Fire Caste Elites"' Grenadier's pulse carbine (over-under grenade launcher;))
Harald Apr 18, 2008, 01:46 AM Because that's what Sauri ride?
The reason teh saurus are riding cavalry is because in earlier editions of the Lizarddudes, one of the chief complaints was the lack of cavalry.
It used to be skinks riding cold ones, oh well. Guess they where a bit one the weak side.
Don't think I had any cold one riders except a hero (dunno his name, remember him having a bunch of dart behind his shield giving him a couple of free shots when he charged).
EDIT: Hmmm, maybe I should go to my parents and dig up my old lizardmen stuff.
DragonBird Apr 18, 2008, 06:41 PM Please do... We'd be glad to see the coldbloods. :D
mrtn Apr 21, 2008, 07:35 AM I played another game against the Lizardmen of my friend today, and had a blast.

In this shot my big herd has stood the charge from his saurus cavalry, and my knights are ready to slam into their flank:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/1300p6.jpg
It was very bloody, after turn five he didn't have anything left on the table. I still had my Chosen Undivided Knights, one out of ten Khorngors, my general and the standardbearer and one ungor from my biggest herd. The stars of my army were yet again my Khorngors, they took out about 650 of his points, and the armies were 1300 p to start with, so that's half his army. :D
He has bought a new gaming mat and some hills, so this was the first time it really looked like a proper gaming table with nice terrain and two mostly painted armies.
LizardmenRule! Apr 21, 2008, 08:18 AM That looks great! "Proppa" gaming tables always add something to games :)
Stormrage Apr 21, 2008, 02:27 PM Those pictures are amazing! And high quality too! What camera do you have?
DragonBird Apr 21, 2008, 04:38 PM Propa? Da game iz allways propa if you have fun! Having a nice playing field does add a little something to the gameplay. Nice stuff too.
mrtn Apr 21, 2008, 06:08 PM Thanks people. :)Those pictures are amazing! And high quality too! What camera do you have? The camera is nothing special AFAIK, it's my parent's old Nikon, probably about 5 years old. Photoshop and a steady hand usually helps more than a fancy new camera. ;)
DragonBird Apr 22, 2008, 06:36 PM Is it digital? All I have to use is a Canon that is about 500 years old. Don't get me wrong, it's a great camera, but it kind of sucks if you need those digital qualities.

DragonBird Apr 24, 2008, 05:38 PM Hey, I saw some "lava" lizys once, (I think) it was from the same guy that did the lava tyranids. They were very cool. There was a story behind them too: This particulare clan guarded a very active volcano. There are many valuble items and treasures in this very active volcano, that if in the wrong hands, could do some very bad things. :p
Like I said. If you get them right... they still look kind of "guady", and frickin' awesome. ;)

mrtn Apr 25, 2008, 11:42 AM No dragons, cavalry, bolt throwers or eagles? Sounds like an unusual list...
Stormrage Apr 25, 2008, 04:59 PM Well he has bolt throwers.
And maybe it does sound like an unusual list for gaming, but when you think about it, don`t these guys have any "normal" battles? I mean, c`mon, how many dragons and giant eagles are there? Sure, you can really spam them in the WH mod, but whatever :D
I would agree that they need some cavalry, tho.
DragonBird Apr 26, 2008, 09:37 AM Yea... Thats my big weakness. Right now I'm rebuilding my forces and I cannot afford cavalry just yet. They are expensive compared to other special units that do the things I need.
mrtn Apr 26, 2008, 12:45 PM Expensive in € or points? Or both? :p
I'm putting together a 2000 points Tzeentch armylist now for my first 2000 p battle. Having played Khorne/Undivided I want to try a magic-spamming-list for a change. I hope that 14 PD and 7 DD is enough to battle a Slann list.
Stormrage Apr 26, 2008, 04:01 PM Using the same minis or making new ones, mrtn? :)
mrtn Apr 26, 2008, 09:41 PM The same. That's one of the reasons I choose the painting scheme that I did, it isn't clearly for one chaos god, but can be used for most of them. :) I hardly have to paint more minis either (just one hound), the 700 points difference from my last battle will be put into characters only. ;) Tzeentch beastlord, Tzeentch wargor BSB and another Tzeentch wargor, all will go into my big herd. Hopefully that will give enough magic missiles, plus that they are good in HtH too.
Stormrage Apr 27, 2008, 09:57 PM Dang, was hoping to see some more cool pics :D

Stormrage Apr 28, 2008, 08:48 PM I noticed that too, but I thought it was a regular mini, was lazy to go the GW website. I am still lazy. mrtn, pls, tll us.
DragonBird Apr 28, 2008, 11:12 PM Cavalry costs $$$. I can bear the point costs, and I'm not lying when I say I've been on the recieving end of cavalry.
"Matt" has announced that he will no longer be only MEEN AN' GREEN. He's going to take up the Empire (Which he has loads of... including Heavy Cavalry)
mrtn Apr 29, 2008, 10:10 PM Where's the guy in the front-middle from? it's a cool hat! :D
All of them (possibly with the exception of the two Blood Bowl mutants) are out of production. Some of them, however, are even more out of production, that guy and four friends (the ones with static grass, minus the musician) are from 1989. GW used to make some really strange minis in the 80s, just check out the Stuff of Legends (http://www.solegends.com/citadel/index.htm).
Just look at the guy to the right in the front rank; a mutated foot, just three fingers on his right hand, and an underbite bigger than Oslo. :D And they all got "mouths" at the end of their horns too.
Stormrage Apr 30, 2008, 07:40 AM Hey, those are cool details! I noticed the mutated foot, just haven `t bothered to look at his other one, I thought they just gave him feet like the centigors have, for a little variety.
The mouthed hornes are awesome :D
DragonBird Apr 30, 2008, 03:47 PM Now that you mention the extra stuff the guys they seem so much more... whats the word... awesome (more awesome!?! Is it possible?) ;)
mrtn May 04, 2008, 09:04 AM Lord of the Pit
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/Hogshaman2.jpg
This is my shaman. At the moment I suspect that he is very drunk and very happy, because this friday he was in a fight. He and his herd had allied with some greenskins to take on a big bunch of Lizardmen. The first chance he got, he cast Pit of Shades with Infinite Force on a second generation Slann. The big toad and a lot of his friends fell down into the pit. The second turn he cast Pit of Shades again, on a unit of Cold One Riders and a tooled up saurus hero riding a cold one. He fell too, and one of the riders as well. It should be getting crowded down there.
He's a very lucky pig. :D
kluthe May 04, 2008, 11:48 AM hey, u guys, did u hear about the new WH 40k update thats coming out in July?
Stormrage May 04, 2008, 04:11 PM Yah, I saw it the other day in the GW newsletter.
Awesome miniature, mrtn. Is that another classic?
Harald May 04, 2008, 04:39 PM kluthe: Yeah, unfortunately according to rumored/leaked rules nidz vill be more or less screwed :(. mrtn May 04, 2008, 04:46 PM ...Awesome miniature, mrtn. Is that another classic?
It's an old Bob Olley mini, you can buy it for $1. He sculpted some of the oldest GW beastmen, but later went freelance, IIRC.
Stormrage May 04, 2008, 04:50 PM So is it GW? I think thats my favorite piece in your army :)

mrtn May 04, 2008, 05:10 PM So is it GW? I think thats my favorite piece in your army :)

No, it's not GW. I got it from a US store called Mega Minis. They have a lot of cheap old minis available. Here, for example. (http://cgi.ebay.com/MEM-90016-Beastmen-x-10-miniatures-25mm_W0QQitemZ140167444995QQihZ004QQcategoryZ2537Q QcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262)

I have the pig with the two handed sword, the left ram with the halberd, and the standard bearer.
Stormrage May 04, 2008, 06:08 PM Some of them could easily fill in for GW stuff, as you have proven, except the twohanded swordspig, doesnt have that WH feel about it.
mrtn May 04, 2008, 10:13 PM I think he fits (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/Bestigors4.jpg).

well, thats what Broadsides, Hammerheads, and anti- vehicle weapons are for.
Stormrage May 05, 2008, 04:40 PM I think he is talking about Tryanids, not Tau..
kluthe May 05, 2008, 04:49 PM oh, at least it'll be easier to annihilate tyranids
DragonBird May 07, 2008, 09:18 PM Well, GW doesn't often make really unbalanced rules. I mean everyone (that I know) though the High Elves getting the always strike first rule was really bad. :p All it turned out to be was a nice racial perk.
The Nids won't be able to do the same things, but they won't be tank lunch meat... unless they are prepackaged by their general.
They'll probably have some "uber-killy tank" rule. Maybe they will get one of those growth-thingys that let them melt/tear the hatches off the tanks so they can get to the juicy center. ;)
Harald May 08, 2008, 02:18 AM You are probably right but there is that gap between the release of the core rules and the new nid codex. Anyway I'm not sure why I'm complaining that much it's not like I have an army to fight with at the moment anyway. :)
But I will hold of on some units untill the new rules are released.
kluthe May 08, 2008, 04:40 PM that would only work IF they can get close enough, and against the Tau, thats a very big if.
DragonBird May 08, 2008, 05:35 PM What about deep strikers? Or winged/leaper guys? ;)
kluthe May 09, 2008, 03:29 PM still, only the deep strikers would have a chance, the rail gun has a range of 72in.
DragonBird May 09, 2008, 10:25 PM Ya... the rail rocks. But thats why there is line of sight disrupting terrain. ;)
kluthe May 11, 2008, 08:24 AM smart missles
DragonBird May 11, 2008, 07:16 PM Dammit. Um... wait for it... yea... Dammit. ;)
Yea... got me there. What are the range of the smart missles?
kluthe May 11, 2008, 08:31 PM 24", from GW website, but seeker missiles have an unlimited range and Str 8, stronger than the smart's 6, but AP 3, vs. 5
DragonBird May 12, 2008, 12:03 AM They are limited shots... They can't possibly get all the tyranids... And if you get the missiles then I'm guessing you won't have many points for railguns and fire warriors.
DragonBird May 12, 2008, 06:49 PM Recently I've been gleaning all I can about how 40k is played. I do not understand how the armor area of the game works. Please, explain. I'd like to start up a small army. Probably 16 Fire Warriors. Thats right.

jlvfr May 13, 2008, 03:35 AM I do not understand how the armor
Firing at armour: compare your weapons strenght + 1D6 with the target's armour. Example:
You hit with a rail gun (strenght 10) vs a Land Raider. Roll a D6; you scored a 3. 10+3=13 since the Land Raider's armour is 14 your shot didn't enter.
If you rolled 4, 10+4=14 you scored a glancing hit. Roll a D6 from the glancing table.
If you rolled 5, 10+5=15 you scored a penetrating hit. Roll a D6 from the penetrating table.

Fire warriors come in squads of 6-12, and u probably should get some kroot, and u are required to get a commander in an XV8 Crisis battlesuit
LizardmenRule! May 13, 2008, 07:12 PM AP1 means it ignores any armour saves, but hasnt got an effect AFAIK against vehicle armour.
so, providing it hits, it will automatically wound and, at S10, instantly kill most infantry sized models, like space marines, since the weapons Strength is more than double the target's Toughness
DragonBird May 14, 2008, 04:49 AM I though the Tau were bought in groups of 16... The other day I saw something really cool. A guy that goes to 31st century every now and then brought in some converted tau fire warriors. He modeled them to look like martial artists and he uses the Kroot rules for them. He said something about getting the idea from the GW website. But I do need to finish my WHFB army before I start developing a 40k one. Its just, I'm tired of painting spearmen and archers.
LizardmenRule! May 14, 2008, 09:25 AM Well, take a break from painting, and put together some tau instead! :D
That martial arts thing sounds pretty cool. I've seen an army made entirely of drones, they had made special drones to count as crisis suits, for instance, by arming the drones with the appropriate weaponry and having everything on the correct sized base

No.
First of all, AP1 only eliminates armour saves. The target may still use cover/invulnerable saves. Also, even at S10, if you roll a 1 on the to-wound you will fail...

kluthe May 20, 2008, 03:23 PM hey, it worked for me
Stormrage May 24, 2008, 09:28 AM To quote from the TV Tropes wiki, "Warhammer 40000 is a setting where power-armored Super Soldiers with rocket-propelled grenade launcher assault rifles and chainsaw swords work alongside space nuns with flamethrowers and the Red Army IN SPACE with lasers and house-sized death tanks (or alternately, the Scottish ninja assassin bagpipe troopers) to battle flaming head sex demons riding hell motorcycles amidst the earth-shattering stomping of three hundred meter tall walking battle cathedrals while psychic space elf Pirates with guns that shoot Ninja stars flit about on hover bikes while surrounded on all sides by green-skinned fungi-warriors whose vehicles literally move faster because they are painted red while being eaten by all-consuming psychic bug-eyed-monsters from hell or flayed into their constituent atoms by undead robots armed with lightning guns and dressed in the skins of their enemies who are in turn getting sniped by alien element-themed Well Intentioned Extremist communists/utilitarians in bunny-eared battlesuits."
kluthe May 24, 2008, 01:51 PM hey, what are the Tau, chop liver?!

jlvfr May 24, 2008, 02:46 PM hey, what arethe Tau, chop liver?!
Depends... if my marine is carrying a power fist or chainsword... :scan:
Stormrage May 24, 2008, 04:13 PM Perhaps that quote originates from the time Tau weren`t in 40k..
Quinzy May 24, 2008, 05:48 PM "who are in turn getting sniped by alien element-themed Well Intentioned Extremist communists/utilitarians in bunny-eared battlesuits"
Tau.
jlvfr May 24, 2008, 05:49 PM "who are in turn getting sniped by alien element-themed Well Intentioned Extremist communists/utilitarians in bunny-eared battlesuits"

Stormrage May 24, 2008, 05:52 PM  I thought bunny ears were Khorne Berzerkers, I haven`t payed attention to the rest.
Quinzy May 24, 2008, 06:23 PM http://uk.games-workshop.com/tau/battlesuit-configurations/images/tau-vs-marines2.jpg
Look at their bunny ears! :D
DragonBird May 26, 2008, 03:51 PM Now I see them. Its sooooo cuuuuute! And right when you say that - cute little bunny red dots are all over you. And you see cute little bunnie eared missles looking at you.
What are the "flaming head sex deamons"? Demonnettes of Slannesh? What about the "scottish ninja assassin bagpipe troopers"? Maybe Stormtroopers? but where are the bagpipes?
Quinzy May 26, 2008, 05:10 PM The Tanith are the scots, I think :D
Stormrage May 26, 2008, 05:39 PM Mkoll, Mkvenner... Yeah, could be scottish :)
DragonBird May 27, 2008, 12:22 PM They should have MacGregor from the CoD games.

Goblin magic miscast?!:goodjob:
Stormrage Jun 05, 2008, 10:09 AM No. Its cooler than that..
In Warhammer Online, if say a level 30 player goes down the tier and tries to attack some newbies, he gets turned into a chicken :D
I just applied for Beta. Fingers crossed!
DragonBird Jun 05, 2008, 04:29 PM Hmm... I thought it was wierd with the High Elf tower behind him.
I thought only Drawfs and Greenskins fought. And darkies and high elves fought? Along with Chaos and The Empire fighting eachother.
Stormrage Jun 05, 2008, 04:35 PM 2 Sides. 3 Battlefronts. 6 Races. 4 Classes per Race.
DE, Orcs and Chaos vs the Lord of the Rings Alliance :mischief:
Quinzy Jun 05, 2008, 05:40 PM Stormy- in response to my saying that the new codices are ruining the races:
I mean that they new rules are destroying or rendering useless some fluff, and making certain races unplayable. Nids are gone to the dogs, and splitting Chaos isn't something I like either... Only one type of great demon, randomising Possessed, it all adds up to a flavourless and so-random-it's-unplayable force.
Going back to the Nids, they've been rendered ineffective in so many areas that they're just fodder now. They're the wrong type of Horde army. They were still meant to have strength in individuals but now almost everything has been turned into a one-hit-kill trooper. It's... unfortunate. No, it's daft, that's what it is. Tyranids have lost their formidableness as the threatening alien race invading the galaxy. Now they're just... weak and squishy.
