I must be missing something very basic but my CivIII Edit does nothing but make maps it seems. The rules section is completely greyed out -IYKWIM.

When people recommend that we should "go into the editor and ..." I don't understand this. Do I have to pretend to make a map to be able to do things in the rules editor?

Won't those rules only apply to the map I (don't) make. I am playing vanilla- is that the problem?
(and yes I know that the problem is rarely with the tool but more with the worker)

The answer is simple: Go in the Tools menu -> Uncheck "Use Default Rules". ;)
Nothing will be greyed out any more.

Nope not there. There is a greyed out option to restore default rules in that list.


like I said - it makes maps. I can live with that (or without it as the case may be)

No, it is supposed to be in the tools menu. I have no idea how it's possible to have an editor without a tools menu! What patch do you have??

Tools should be between Scenario and Help. It should be:
File | Edit | View | Map | Rules | Scenario | Tools | Help

I have the 1.29 patch.

I just clicked on something and enabled the Rules editor. I think I will quit now - they yelled at me :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I still don't have a tools menu though.

1. Run Civ3Edit.exe
2. Scenario menu -> check "Custom Rules"
3. Rules menu -> "Edit Rules..."

And there's no Tools

PS. Ignore the warning message about rules being altered and to check your Civ 3 manual. Works just fine.
