View Full Version : The First Slobadog Pitt Boss

Slobadog
Apr 16, 2007, 08:36 AM
As you have probably already figured out by now this is Slobadog's first Pitt Boss. In fact the only people excluded from this game are those who still don't realize that.

Since this is my first Pitt Boss game and my computer is decent but not great i'm going to set up a conservative map with regards to size and scale. I'd only change it if the majority of volunteers don't mind late game slowdown. This Pittboss is for Warlords. This Pittboss uses direct IP connection. I will use CivStats if possible.

(Current settings)

Map type: Continents
Mape size: Standard
Climate: Temperate
Sea Level: Medium
Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
World Wrap: Cylindrical
Resources: Standard
Simultaneous turns: yes
Turn timer: 24 hours
Number Of Players: 8
Victory Types: Conquest, Domination, Space Race, Diplomatic, Cultural
No Special Rules
Difficulty Level: Noble

I'm open to changing these settings if i receive enough requests.

(List Of Players)

1.) Slobadog: Carthage {Hannibal}
2.) Spleen1015: Egypt {Hatshepsut}
3.) CB Droege: English {Elizabeth}
4.) JMaltman: Ottomans {Mehmed II}
5.) Rycheman: Rome {Augustus Ceaser}
6.) Apoll: Random {Random}
7.) SonnyBonds: Random {Random}
8.) Cardano_FF: Random {Random}

(Reserves)

1.) Johnhs
2.) cds0528
3.) bjarkekr
4.) Conquistador45

Note: As this is my first Pitt Boss its possible that i might make some mistakes.

I would like to play as Hatshepsut.

Unfortunately I can only play vanilla version for now (might get warlords later).
If this happens to change, though, count me in...

How about the settings for Barbarians & tech trading?

Raging barbarians could be fun for a change! :D

Wouldn't mind knowing that it was being played at noble.

I like to join. How can i connect to the game? by gamespy loby or direct iP?
for settings: i like to be random civ and set speed to normal plz no epic.

JMaltman
Apr 16, 2007, 07:55 PM
I'm fine with Epic- when are you thinking of starting? If there was the possibility of an accelerated start once that would be extremely cool.

Slobadog
Apr 16, 2007, 08:40 PM
The game will operate through a direct IP connection. The difficulty level will be noble. I havn't set up any special rules(like raging barbarians)

I've decided to increase the number of players to 8. CB Droege will be in reserve.

I guess it wasn't 'first up, first in'?

Or did you look at my sig and decide that I'm already in enough games? :P

That's okay, I guess it's true. ;)

Slobadog
Apr 16, 2007, 09:08 PM
Well my view is that if your not gona mention who you want to be you're not very determined to play.

We can do an accelerated start. I would need to know what time is best for everyone else. For me it doesn't matter as i'm currently usually at home all day. On a different note i plan on using Civstats if possible.

JMaltman
Apr 16, 2007, 09:54 PM
:D to Civstats!

For an accelerated start, a couple of hours would be great. I'm in EST, and work during the day. So late PM (or even middle of the night on a weekend) could work, or random times on a weekend depending when you can schedule. Anyone else with thoughts on it?

It would really make epic a LOT better - because we could get through the really tedious early exploration + warrior/worker builds.

Sonnybonds
Apr 17, 2007, 12:38 AM
Epic speed makes the new units so quick useless. when i finaly researched maceman. I build a army of them but when i have a big army my enemy has already made tons of musketman.

Slobadog
Apr 17, 2007, 01:10 AM
But wouldn't normal speed make them go obsolet faster? On a different note, Sonnybonds are you available for a accelerated start and if so when?

Rycheman
Apr 17, 2007, 02:56 AM
I'm fine with settings and Civstats is great.

Acc. start is a good idea,i'm in UK[GMT] evenings are best for me but can't make Saturday.

JMaltman
Apr 17, 2007, 08:20 AM
But wouldn't normal speed make them go obsolet faster? On a different note, Sonnybonds are you available for a accelerated start and if so when?

Exactly - Sonny has it backwards. NORMAL (of quick/fast whatever its called) make your units obsolete too fast. Epic allows the different flavours of units in each era the chance to come out - and it makes the counters much more important instead of just a race for the next super-unit. :)

Johnhs

Aargh, I snoozed on this one.

Plse also place me on the reserve list. Tks.

Sonnybonds

Epic or normal speed. Its both OK with me. about fast start: i can on sunday afternoon or so. My timezone is GM +1.

Cardano_FF
Apr 17, 2007, 10:44 AM
Accelerated start would be great, but not sure if we can find the time to do it.
I am west coast US -
Current time zone offset: UTC/GMT -7 hours
and work days - so probably could not be reliably online until 8pm local any given night.

my civstats login is just Cardano

Normal would probably be my preference, Epic leans a little too much toward a single UU allowing one civ to gain an early advantage for my tastes, but I can go with any gamespeed.

CB Droege
Apr 17, 2007, 11:22 AM
I didn't get in because I hadn't decided who I wanted to be yet?

What about all the 'randoms'? Are they lacking in motivation to play?

spleen1015

I'm fine with Epic or Normal. I don't have a preference.

I am available for an accelerated start if it is in the evening after 8pm EST.

CB Droege - "I didn't get in because I hadn't decided who I wanted to be yet? What about all the 'randoms'? Are they lacking in motivation to play? "

As a 'random' I would say that this is a fair choice of leader. It is, in fact, one of the choices that you can select from the pull down and as such should be considered at least as valid as any of the other pull down choices.

I will not support Slobadog's choice not to include you, however, and would be happy to give you my slot if you feel that you were unfairly maligned by not including information that was not specifically requested.

Up to him really.
Cheers

Slobadog
Apr 17, 2007, 01:58 PM
I did not include CB Droege because you did not pick the choice of civ or the choice of random civ. All you said was i'll join. I have no problem if you had chosen random. I'm sorry i didn't clarify that properly.

But alas you didn't say much. And that was why you seemed to lack determination. But i mean no offense. Its just hard to figure out who to include in these games. Sorry. Next time i'll flip a coin to decide who gets in the game. I could even flip a coin right now.

CB Droege
Apr 17, 2007, 02:38 PM
Most games are 'first up, first in', and that has become a standard. No need to flip coins or try to decide based on merit...

No worries, though... ;) As I said, I am in enough games as it is. Some of these guys are not even in a couple of games yet, much less 8 of them, so I'm okay if they get the spot... :)

Slobadog
Apr 17, 2007, 04:16 PM
Well i guess this is one of the mistakes that i mentioned i might make.
When i said you lacked determination it was meant to sorta be in jest but some things i say in real life don't translate into text very well. I need to pay more attention.

However no harm done as deleatur has recently notified me of his withdrawel due to inability to join the accelerated start. So the spot is open if you want it. I've decided to change the game speed to normal as i no longer think the map is big enough for epic.

Regarding the accelerated start. Would Sunday, 8:00 PM U.S West Coast time be ok.

JMaltman

How long are we going to go for in the accelerated start? Sunday 8pm Pacific (11pm here in Toronto) should likely be good for me... but I might need to beg for a 15-30 mins later - I'll know better on Thursday.

You should try setting up a test server over the next few days to get connection issues and the ins and outs out of the way so we make sure we login, etc. :D

Talk to deleatur re: some of the quirks he went through getting his set up... and CB is a great resource too. :D

For Holland it should be 5:00 AM. Unless I calculated wrong. Hmm that would probably be a difficult time for you.

I was thinking of doing a 2 hour accellerated start.

I'll set up a test server today if possible.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Slobadog,
It seems like we have a wide variety of time zones for this game.
I'm in uk and think this would make acc.start at 4am,not ideal.
still interested, but would prefer either a bit later or a lot earlier.
I Think some others are GMT or GMT+1.

Slobadog
Apr 18, 2007, 12:00 PM
Maybe we could skip the accelerated start since its causing so many scheduling problems.

JMaltman
Apr 18, 2007, 12:36 PM
Could we do a Saturday night Nth America/Sunday morning Europe accelerated start? I don't mind starting in the middle of the night my time - which would give these guys an early morning Sunday start, and you a late evening Saturday? :D

Slobadog
Apr 18, 2007, 01:01 PM
That would still cause problems for some people.

JMaltman
Apr 18, 2007, 04:33 PM
I was thinking something like Sunday 1am Eastern time:

Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 05:00:00

West Coast Sat 10:00 PM *
East US/Canada Sun 1:00 AM *
London Sun 6:00 AM *
Amsterdam Sun 7:00 AM *

I don't mind staying up a little late, if others are willing to get up a little early. :D

The other slot that MIGHT work would be early morning for you on the West coast on a Sunday, midmorning for those on the East coast, and then it would be into the later afternoon for those in UK/Netherlands?

It would be nice but i think there's too many different time zones.

Slobadog
Apr 20, 2007, 05:30 AM
Agreed, I will skip the accelerted start. Since i dropped the speed to normal should be it more bearable. All i need to know is if CB Droege is interested in deleatur's former spot. ( I will eventuly need to know whether he wants to be a civ or random civ or not. ;) )

for settings: no barbarians or at least no ragging barb. Is tech trading allowed? i like it but it can be abused.

JMaltman
Apr 20, 2007, 01:00 PM
I'd like to try out tech trading too - we're all reasonable long-term people here that won't abuse it, right? We're in for the long haul - even if we're on the losing end of things for a while. And pseudo-vassals are much more useful and attractive if they can research techs to trade to you in exchange for letting them live. :D

JMaltman

Sonnybonds
Apr 21, 2007, 01:29 AM
Yeah why normal speed. I though u guys didnt like it because the units become underrated so quick

Slobadog
Apr 21, 2007, 05:27 AM
I've been internally debating normal and epic speed for some time now. On the one hand i don't want units to become obsolet too quick. On the other hand i don't want unique units to last so long that they knock everyone else out of the game.

Basicly the main reason is that i have too much time on my hands. The longer it takes to start the game the more i debate and change things around. For instance I now want epic speed instead but it's proabably too late. I don't feel well these days so that proably hinders my judgment a little. My next PittBoss will be better planned. I will probably start the game soon.

I just received your message about the server details.

The IP you provide is for your internal network. From my experience you are connected through a router (I guess is D-Link).

To find your real internet IP at any time just go to
http://www.whatismyip.com/

The IP there is your real one for everyone to connect.

Check it frequently and inform the rest of the players for any changes, if you have dynamic IP.

If you have any queries or need some help, let me know. :)

Hi,

On your machine localy when you want to connect use your localhost IP.

For others to connect you mind find which port the Civ is hearing and make a port forwarding on your router.

Slobadog
Apr 22, 2007, 04:32 PM
This is more complicated than i originally thought. I must admit i do not fully understand the info provided in those links. For instance where would i go to open/forward my ports.

Apoll
Apr 22, 2007, 11:30 PM
On your router.

If you open your connection you will see a gateway (based on your IP a good guess is 192.168.1.0). type http://(the gateway ip) and you connect to the router. get your router manual, for default username/password to connect and see were you have to set the settings.

It's not as hard as you think. As Apoll said earlier, I think the issue is the port forwarding. Look me up on AOL IM and I should be able to guide you right through the process.
