Heya folks, way back we ran an open call for spell pedia entries and you guys came up with some great stuff. Now I'd like to try the same with building entries. Don't worry about the practical effects of the building, we just want to catch a bit of flavor for each of them (buildings that need some practical functions explained will have a paragraph before the flavor paragraphs you guys are supplying).

The trick is to find an interesting paragraph to write about the building that conveys some sort of FfH flavor. It can be a story about something that happened at that building (like a story about a succubus that seduces and kills a man in a public bath) that invovles the building in an important way, some history about the building, or how the building is used differently for a specific civilization (calabim smokehouses dont just have sheep in them).

Be creative, have fun. My reject rate is pretty high so dont put to much of your heart and soul in it. Try to keep it somewhat brief (think of the poor french and german translators) but Id rather have a good story that was a bit longer than one that wasnt as good and brief.

Here are the buildings:

By the way, do you want strategy tags for buildings? For example
TXT_KEY_BUILDING_ALCHEMY_LAB_STRATEGY
The gunpowder units allowed by an alchemy lab are a good alternative to melee in capturing cities. The science bonus makes this building also valuable in cities with science multipliers, such as those with libraries or academies.

TXT_KEY_BUILDING_AQUAE_SUCELLUS_STRATEGY
In addition to the health bonus from this wonder, all diseased units that end their turn here will be cured. This is a good wonder to go for if you have life mana but few other health resources, or are following the Octopus Overlords or Ashen Veil and are having trouble with disease.

TXT_KEY_BUILDING_ARCHERY_RANGE_STRATEGY
The units enabled by the Archery range are designed for defending cities or stacks of units. You don’t need to build one of these buildings in every city; rather save production by building one and moving units to other cities.

TXT_KEY_BUILDING_ARMORER_STRATEGY
Since the armorer enables a national unit, it is only useful in a few high production cities.

Gahahaha! That's a line of thought I would've never followed on my own. Their smokehouse ought to have a unique name...

Edit: Oh, and I might try my hand at some of these later...

but I believe he means just to add something in the wiki about whatever so-n-so building, and notify him here what you did(a link and such in a post would help)...although I'll let him, and/or the oh-so-lovable bunch known as a group called the writing cru,{yeah okay} clarify when he, they, gets the chance to.

I guess it would be easier to just post your suggestions here. You can still add them to the wiki after they are definetly in.

This entries will be put in the Pedia, eventually. It's easiest to stick them here, so Kael can see them and glue them in as they come along. Things in the Wiki might get missed.

Ride of the Nine Kings

"The pounding at the door came again, more insistant, this time. The ancient wooden door buckled slightly, and slivers of wood flew outwards. Those bracing the doors could here Ogres grunting outside, smashing at the door with their great hammers. As a particulary hard hit crashed against the door, the last bit of light faded from the windows in the ceiling of the cavern.
"MY lords, we won't last the night." a young, pale faced officer scurried to the table, where the Nine Kings of the last free Hippus tribes Planned. over them, laying limp in the still and muggy air of the cavern, where horses and men had been lodged for days, Banners dangled. Once beautiful, resplendant in the sun, as the massed armies of the hippus rode through the plains, they now lay faded and dirty. "The clan's brought in three stoneskins."
One of the younger kings looked up at the officer, and the officer could read despair in his eyes. "we're lost... why do we keep fighting? Where are our allies; where are the ljosalfar, who brought us into this war?" he muttered.
"We wll ride... the last ride of the Hippus..." the oldest of the kings spoke "Call the men to arms! Saddle the horses... We will not be forgotten. The we may ride to riun, we will be remembered." His eyes shone, and he donnes his helm, the plume of horsehair flapping as if from an unearthly breeze.
It was quick. the men had been expecting a ride for a while, had kept thier swords neer, kept the horses rested and saddled. They mounted, and formed a great line in front of the door. They lowered thier lances, and waited for the signal.
"So few remain," the young king looked behind sadly "We ride in vain."
"It is worth it." the old king said, "We will not be forgotten." they both unsheathed thier swords, though the young king slightly more hesitantly, and wheeled thier horses to the front of the formation.
Those at the door released it just as a stonesking ogre hit it a final blow. The door flew open, shards of stone and wood scattering everywhere. the massed hordes of the clan orcs poured in, and fell back, hesitated for a moment. Hornes sounded, and the remanants of the hippus nation poured out through the door. hundreds of clan orcs died that die, along with one of the stonesking ogres. the Last of the Hippus fell, and the light ofthe horsemasters was extinguished. that was the end."
the old ministrel put away his lute, a beautiful instument, carved with stylized horse heads. his face was weathered, and looked like stone in the flickering light of the campfire. The children stared up at him expectantly.
"But Sir, you're wrong. the hippus are still here."
he looked at them and sighed. "That story is for another night... how the great lord Tasunke rose from being a clan slave, captured at the last battle, and united the few remaining free petty lords. how he led them in victory after victory against the clan, and how Rhoanna came up with he plan to make the hippus the most feared and respected nation. I'll tell children tomorrow, if you're good."

Forbidden Palace

Every form of government has their own way of dealing with the great masses of people. But what they all have in common, is the knowledge that information is best to kept in the lips of the leaders, not the common folk. So in order to sustain discipline and obedience, growing empire requires more and more complex network of influence over the public. Hidden societies and shadowy cults may begin to act as a moving hand behind the throne and members of these organizations can often be found as the leaders most trusted advisors. Often called as the silent councils, these parts of the government need established base to keep their work undisturbed.

Strategy text:

Being as the true center of government, the Forbidden Palace will reduce maintenance costs in nearby cities but however, it will never be known to the public.

Brewery
Since the earliest days of the Thaw, brewers, master craftsmen would take refine grains into the most delicious of beverages. The great breweries of the first Spring were built in the Dwarven holds along their mighty rivers, to produce these refreshments. During the bitter Winters, they'd carve blocks of ice to pack in their barrels during the Summer, so that by the Fall they would be laden with alcohol, and ready to drink. So invigorating was this drink that is filled the Dwarves with zeal and gusto, emboldening them in their first forays into the world! ...though there is more than one historian who believes that the Dwarves were so driven because they were addicted to their brews and would do much and strive ever on to have just another drink.

- Lescroc Garsmort, historian and brewer

Strategy: You built the city along the river. You have more grains than you know what to do with! You should have happy citizens as well!

Reliquary

Civilopedia

"My dear, beloved children, stand down and lay down your weapons. Kneel and pray. Because thou are about to be sanctified by the omniscent presence of this holy item. Its touch healing thousands of souls, its look giving sight to the blind, its smell giving hope to milions, making me a voluntarily slave of its infinite love. Let us pray, let us pray to honour its very existence..."

Strategy text

Relics make your cities centres of culture with thousands of pilgrims arriving at your city, thus populating your culture. Your priests, serving these items may become prophets. Your city inhabitants are becoming more and more spiritual, however temporal increases in your city's population is making it more and more polluted, more unhealthy.

Sculptor's Studio

"First of all, choose a material, which you want to use. For the Beginning, you should choose wood, because it is not expansive and easy to work with. When you have some practice, you can go on with stone and marble. Then imagine what kind of shape your creation should have. A humanoid shape would be the best and it is also very popular. After you got a vision of it, begin with the rough contour. Now work out the details of your sculpture, for this distinguish our golems from the war machines. We want to create unique beings not mass produced soldiers and the materials we use here aren't suited for war anyway.
Be as accurate as possible, make every finger, eye, feather and mouth authentic. If you are satisfied with the sculpture, the last but most important step follows: The Enchanting. Without magic you would have a beautiful piece of work, but what kind of use do they have if they can't do anything but standing in one place? So check your sculpture a last time before starting the enchantment ritual, because once they 'live', the body of them cannot be changed anymore.
After you finished, you will feel like a proud father looking at his newborn."

Strategy text:
A Sculptor's Studio allows the creation of the wood golem and the gargoyle. Because of the impressive and beautiful work of the craftsmen, this building grants +1 culture point.

Yggdrasil

She stood with me at the forest next to the town. She had a bag of enriched soil in her left hand and a small glowing seed in the other. She said that this particular seed will bring us happiness and prosperity beyond our imagination.
When I asked my master, why does the seed glow so strongly, she just smiled back at me. The sun was shining warmly that day and it made her eyes look enigmatic and somehow, sad. She kneeled down, planted the seed and whispered something I was unable to hear. At that moment, she fell unconscious to the ground.
Suddenly small roots begun to grow beneath her body and quickly she was entirely cowered by them. The roots kept growing upwards forming a shape of a tree and all the other trees next to us were bending towards her body, almost like they wanted to join that miraculous growth. Moss beneath us started to pulse light and glowing butterflies with other lifeforms emerged from thin air transforming the whole forest into a radiant garden. While I was gazing at the giant tree, I knew that she had filled the seed with her own soul.
Every day from that day on, I came back to the tree and harvested her magical fruits in honor of my former master. We begun to call her Yggdrasil, the Life Tree.

The Nexus

Civilopedia

"The astro-philosophers of Krull once succeeded in proving conclusively that all places are one place and that the distance between them is an illusion, and this news was an embarassment to all thinking philosophers because it did not explain, among other things, signposts. After years of wrangling the whole thing was then turned over to Ly Tin Wheedle, arguably the Disc's greatest philosopher, who after some thought proclaimed that although it was indeed true that allplaces were one place, that place was very large."
--Terry Pratchett, "Sourcery"

The Dungeon Spiders and their webs decorate an awkward wall inside of the dark hole, where traitor's are thrown into for the rest of their life. Only one portal leads in these caves of despair, only one man has the key. The commander of the guardians, Erwos - he opens and closes the door personally. There are no guards inside the Dungeon which lies beneath the sewers of the city. But rumors are there is a dark creature somewhere in this labyrinth who has found this place in one of Hemah's dark dreams. Others say there would be only rats - but thousands of them! - fed by the guardians to make the punishment complete. Erwos alone can decide if someone is guilty of a betrayal of the crown. That's why he is feared by the citizen. If it was a speech of peace, or only a tax evasion - the punishment is the Dungeon.

Strategic Value:
When you decide what to build next a Dungeon is not your first choice most often, a +1  is a bad thing to have. Not so if you have a war going on for more than 10 [?] turns. At this point you'll be forced to make a peace treaty if you don't want to loose many population points due to war weariness. A Dungeon can help you to continue a war. Also it's useful for big empires thanks to it's -20% upkeep cost.

Velox Workshop

Deggim stood in front of the window, looking at the city outside.
'You all heard the terrible news; many of our golems were destroyed in the field before they even had a chance to reach the enemy. Damn cannons! Without them, our foes would already lie trampled down by our army. Instead, we had to withdraw and fortify behind the city walls. It is only a matter of time until they capture this city.'
He turned around and scanned every commander narrowly.
'How many troops do we have in the city?'
'Not enough to defeat our enemy. Only the militia and the rest of our army.', answered Mareg, the youngest of the generals.
'So we have about 250 men plus the remaining golems. And it would take too much time to create more of them, am I right?'
'Yes, Sir'
'It would be senseless anyway. They were destroyed before they could attack. We are lost.'
'Not yet' replied Mareg. 'I have an idea, which could save this city.'
'Only could? Well better than to give up. Let's hear your idea then.'
'Now our golems are too slow to reach our foes in time. But what when we reduce the material and the armor they have? They would be much faster and could eliminate those cannons. Afterwards, we can send out our other golems.'
It was silent for an instance.
'General Mareg, you are a genius. You heard it! Tell our craftsmen to reform the golems, we haven't much time.'

Since this day nearly every Luchuirp city has a workshop specialized on forming fast golems.

Strategy text:
With the Velox Workshop, every of your golems produced in this city gets the Light promotion, which grants the golem +1 movement and a 10% withdrawal chance but reduces its strength 20%. It cannot be built in a city with the armament molds in it.

All freaks of nature, all Promethean thoughts
Of man, his dulness, madness, and their feats
All jumbled up together, to compose

Meanwhile, as if the whole were one vast mill,
Are vomiting, receiving on all sides,
Men, Women, three-years' Children, Babes in arms.

Strategy text

This one you already know, it is the same as Forbidden palace but you need at least 12 cities to build it. It is recommended to be build in a newly conquered continent so the maintenance of your new 'jewels in the crown' of your empire wont drag your budget do the limits of bankruptcy. It will increase the cultural output of the city as well.

A good strategy is to keep a Great Engineer to build the Forbidden Palace or Winter Palace in one turn after you sign peace treaties with the emeries you have taken the surplus cites from.

"Master Ding, would you consider making me your apprentice?"
"Why of course! It seems very few young men ever come to me anymore to learn about the wonderful job of being a siege engineer. So tell me, what is it that made you think of becoming one anyway? The idea that you can create weapons that will turn the tide of wars, crushing the defenses of any city to rubble, and all this from a safe distance away from all the combat?"
"Yeah that sounds great!"
"Or, is it the idea that you will get to work very closely with these machines? So closely in fact that you realize that any little mistake could completely jeopardize the entire campaign. That one slight miscalculation could be the end of your company. That your catapult may be flinging boulders upon your own. Or that you may accidently put in too much gunpowder in your cannon, causing it to blow up."

Obelisk
Martha our Acolyte was standing in front of the Obelisk, the moon was spending some light in the darkness. Our leader started the ritual. He walked to her, kneeled down and said the phrase. "Here we stand, before the gods, here we stand before their voice" and Martha answered "And here the gods, they speak through me, here they say we need a fee". Then our leader took the sack of gold he had collected and opened the cord. He put the gold in front of Martha and she spoke silently to the gods. The obelisk was flushed in a blue light - and the gold disappeard. "The gods have accepted the fee", Martha said and the ritual ended.
Kanthor, a pilgram from a small village near the frontier.

Strategic Value:
An Obelisk provides a great cultural influence, which will spread your civilizations cultural borders fast. This helps in grabbing more resources without building more cities. But remember: it costs 1 gold which will slow your research. Take in account what neighbours you have, are they creative? Have you Balseraph or a civilization with many religious buildings beside you? Then you have to build Obelisks. Cultural borders provide a sanctuary from animals as well.

Library

Civilopedia
"We all know of stories. The old legends told around the flames, held dear by those venerable figures. The words spoken only hoped to survive for a moment, in the minds of those around, sometimes staying long enough to be passed to others. No longer. Not here. Within this building, the tales forever preserved. They live through the ages, presented for all to know. This is the heart of civilization."
- Anonymous Librarian

With the compiling of such a variety of texts under one roof, any scholar, mage, priest and, sometimes, even the common folk may find some of the answers that they seek or, at least, clues. Furthermore, with all these literary works available and the gathering of the studious around them, the interest in learning grows and the city can provide a new sage.

Strategy Text
Its early availability and increase in science makes the library a must for any growing city, especially in the early game to try and gain a lead in technology. Its probably better to focus on something else though, such as in times of war or when science has to be lowered due to a financial deficit.

After a successful evening attending the exciting wiles of the casino, I had wandered out to the streets to find a place to rest the night. No sooner has I turned a corner when I felt the wind whip at me, the shadows slide and stretch from the surrounding avenues, sweeping passed and down the next road.
It was several moments later, I realised, that my purse had been cut and a Thieving Permit had been pinned to it. Now, good fellow, I would rather like the contents back."
Nobleman, reporting the theft to the local Thieves Guild

Strategy TextThe bonus to recon units and the fact that it allows superior ones to be trained is a fair advantage. However, the increase of licensed thieves is hurtful to the economy as the rich - the money lenders, tax collectors, lords, nobles and, of course, yourself - find themselves relieved of some of their golden burden. This is not something you would wish to construct in your most prosperous cities and, if your civilization is running Mercantilism, you may wish to put it in a city that has a great surplus of happiness or - if you are worshipping the Overlords - where the Tower of Complacency can be found.

Golem Workshop

While the years were passing by, the Luchurip recognised, that their golems, they can produce at this time, aren't suited for war anymore. The wood golems were burnt down by the fireballs of the hostile mages, the gargoyles were torn to shreds by the stone-throwing catapults and the iron golems, their strongest weapon, was much too complicated to create in the forges. So they looked for a new and primarily easy possibility to fabricate golems. And the new possibility is called Golem Workshop.
In this building, there is a room with a smith's heart, which can generate a big ardour with magic. In this room, huge pieces of metal like copper can be heated and shaped without being taken from the fire. After the shaping is finished, the craftsmen pour water over the golem so he becomes solid. Then it's the task of the mages to make him a being.
Of course, this procedure coudn't be kept secret and in the following years, many copied it, but nobody could manage this like the Luchuirp.

Strategy text:
The Golem Workshop allows the creation of the copper golem, and, for the Luchuirp, it opens up golem-improving buildings like the Armament Molds, the Velox Workshop and the Blasting Workshop.

Oooh, thanks. :) I've been a bit busy recently, but I'll promise to see what I can do with these two. Just give me a couple of days - I'm already getting some ideas...

(By the way - I notice the Infernal Grimoire is on the list. By mistake, or did Fire outdate my old flavor text for it, or something else?)

It was a mistake, I'll remove it from the list.

Okay, I updated the first post with the entires I checked in. I know its just personal opinion that keep some in and some out and I appreciate everys entries, even if I didn't use yours. In general I prefer not to use to many real quotes, there are definitly a few scattered through FfH, and I did use the Terry Prachett one valis linked but in general I would prefer new things.

Im not to interested in the strategy tags at this point. The reason is that while we are changing things so much the strategy tags often become obsolete and I spend a lot of time going back and fixing them (or they create more confusion that they are worth). Right now Im only using strategy tags if something about the building needs to be described that isnt indicated from the main help.

Governors Manor
Mikael held his hand nervously in his hand. He never liked coming to the manor home, rumors of people going in and never leaving were common in the city but he was chosen by villagers to get help.
"My lord, sorry to bother you but the villagers are sick. The aqueducts have fallen into disrepair, animals lie dead in our streets, and desiese has become common place. We beg of you my lord send help some of the townsfolk are beginning to lose faith in you."
"Fear not, I have foreseen this problem and have already dispatched a man to clean up the town. He is a efficient man and when he leaves you have my word there will not be a sick or malcontent person left."
Something in the governors tone made the man wonder if it was actually a good idea to come.

It is a feeble king, the one who knows not what is happening in his neighboor's lands. War is dependant on inteligence, more than soldiery: the soldiers will fight, but how will they know where to fight: that is the purpose of espionage.
All kings like to be kept up to breast with the knowldge of his neigbors. again, that is where espionage comes in: if the fancy strikes the king to know how his neghbors make thier pretty armor, a spy is sent... we hold the crucial role in all empires.... we old them together. our knowledge and training makes us invaluable.

Harbor

A seagull landed on the tallest spot of captain Cyrrik's ships mast. "Aye, a good sig', the catch wer be goed.", thought Cyrrik. His nine children and beloved wife Belladona, were waiting at the ships ladder.
"- Take us with you daddy!" - cried his twins, Akka and Tukka.
"- Die Hannah!", "- Dad! Falamar is trying to poke me with a stiiik!", Hannah, his little three-year-old dauther run through the gangway, followed by his nine-year-old son Falamar, both named after two famous Lanun leaders, both fighting as originals. Cyrrik smiled. He ignored his wife starting with the ordinary yabbing. He inhaled the fresh, salty breeze, he listened to the merchants, fighting over a half-crown discount for a (what looked like) basket of a week old shrimps, he raved about his ship, about the birds and about the gold he is going to earn. A small taint of sadness went through his face, as he thought of the times, when the city had no harbor. But these are over now. Now he can go fishing with no worries, as now he has a safe place to come back.

Tax Office

The concept of 'taxation' was not, at least literally, known to the inhabitants of the Paolion village. They had a tendency to bury alive the men, who came asking for a part of their belongings. Of course they knew, if a Calabim lord is passing near by, they needed to support the tradicional sacrifice. They also have always supported their lords with men for their wars. Everything seemed balanced to the elders, so when the young vampire, Num'a'Zath came to their village with lord Zaburtha written orders, to give him tenth of their gold, they laughted at him in the first place. Young Nums blood burned at this point and he killed the village chieftain only son. Kumlo, the village chieftain took this very personally. Twenty pitchforks massacred the young vampire and a country-wide peasants revolt started. It costed lifes of three lords and numerous adepts in total. During these weeks Alexis realized, that this was not the best way to collect taxes. From that day on she had enstablished a specialized office in each bigger Calabim city. Each year, each settlements chief had to go to the nearest town and leave tenth of their yearly income in nature or gold in these offices. On the other hand each wampire lord was obligued to visit each of his settlements and give his blessings to each settlements chiefs. If there was one thing Alexis really hated, it was the internal instability. This concept worked out very well. Rumours say, that Alexis earned a lot by selling this idea to the other leaders. But now going back to the biography of Kumlo...

It's a big list, so I'm going to take the Bazaar of Mammon, if you like:

[tab]Commerce is the lifeblood of an empire. A farmer sells his prize horse to buy seed for next season, and the tax collector takes enough off the top to equip a footman. A noble buys a tapistry imported from across the continent, and the King's campaign can continue for another month. As such, it is not discontent that is the greatest threat to a ruler's ambition. Bread and carnivals can asuage unhappiness, or garrison troops should those measures fail. Rather a people's satisfaction has the potentionl to deplete the treasury and starve an empire. If the farmer is content with a smaller gain, from where does the soldier's arms come? If the noble is pleased with his bare halls, shall the war end sooner? Indeed, if the soldiers themselves do not yearn for a better life than their fathers, why will they quite the farm for a mercenary life?
[tab]In light of this, the priests of Mammon make an offer which even rulers devout of Junil have a hard time declining. Let the royal market be seeded with a relic of the King of Avarice here, or one of his praying acoyltes there. Let his temples be unmolested in your capital. The people's hearts shall take up a little-- just a little--greed. So will their labors be intensified with avarice, and the nation profit.
[tab]Alas, such hubris has brought down empires. There is no such thing as a little greed, for Mammon is not a master content to share his subjects, and a people enslaved by their own base appetites are rare to rouse to the nobler callings of man.

Castle

Castle comes from the Bannor word "castilum" meaning "fortress". This is a diminutive of the word "castre", which means "fortified place". Castles were always something more, than just "fortified places" or "fortresses". This word originates back into the dark times of Age of Ice, when all of the Bannor settlements were fortified. People started to use a separate word for a cultural centre, where local administration resided. These places also became an army concentration centres and big training yards, where the most powerful Bannor units - the paladins, were trained. Back in those days people started to use a shortened form of "castilum", a "castil" and in the end, by binding this with a hard ending of a word "castre", a word castle appeared. Some are also trying to find a connection to a word "astlum", which means a strategic location, but these are yet not confirmed. The problem is, that Bannor language has twenty different meanings for a strategic location. I, by myself however do not exlude this possibility, because indeed castles as such were built in strategic locations.

Blasting Workshop

I stood in front of the door and hesitated. Should I go in? Everyone said that it would be a dangerous profession but I would like to work there. Eventually I entered the building.
It was a high building, since also big golems had to come through. There were two doors. One of them was open and led to to a room, in which were many pots with different content. A cauldron was boiling, a strange liquid substance in it.
The other door led to the backyard, where the master of this workshop stood together with a golem. I just wantd to go to him, as a fireball suddenly appeared. But it wasn’t the master to summon it but the golem. I applauded. Then, the master came to me.
‘Good morning! How can I help you?’
‘Good morning! I would like to ask if I can become your apprentice.’, I said.
‘An apprentice, eh? Why do you want to work here?’, he asked.
‘I read much abut this profession and I would like to help improving golems and working with arcane knowledge like you do. And everyone said it could be hazardous, but I am not afraid of it. I even don’t know what is so dangerous about it.’, I responded.
‘Well...’
A loud bang interupted him and threw us onto the ground. Some pieces of wood rained upon us. I looked back. There, where the room with the cauldron should be, were only burnt remains of the chamber.
‘... there is only the normal professional risk.’

Ring of Warding

"- As each of the magical devices a ring is hard to maintain. As you most likely know, or at least should know and yes I am speaking to you Mr. Kmathu, a ring is producing a mass of meta-energy. Its run on the basis of the first Kyorlins law. The power of protection is being sublimated from this chaos with use of the Sammus converters. These are placed in the big monoliths surrounding our city. Sammus was the first to discover the power of flare metal to convert primortial magical energy, by splitting it into all types of mana and then amplifying the enchantment form. So, Mr. Kmathu, what do you think would happen if a summoned creature appeared now in a proximity of up to 100 meters from the ring?
- Guh?
- Ah, yes, we were not paying attention, weren't we? Let me demonstrate.
The archmage whispered a few words of power, making a few quick moves with his hands and a disgusting swarm of bats appeared. He directed it by his hand to the ring. In one second everyone thought nothing will happen, but then a powerful blue-white energy discharge hit the swarm destroying it completely. The blast scrambled the young adepts and the archmage on the ground, injuring some of them. Archmage stood up, cleaned his robe from the dust and said.
- Well, it needs some adjustment. But sure it's working, isn't it?"

Hey, this is fun! I'm not too familiar with the world here (just what I've gathered from the Wiki), so replace the (name) in the following passage with an appropriate Amuritian adept-sounding name :)

Cave Of Ancestors

It was dark inside the cave. (name) was nervous. His feet shuffled forward on the dry rock as he edged his way towards the shadowed recesses in the gloom ahead, the ceremonial satchel heavy at his side. Reaching the first, he slowly knelt and, opening it with an incantation, carefully withdrew the glowing sphere that the Archmage had prepared. Red shadows thronged round him as he placed the sphere into the rock, eager to devour the sudden light.

His way thus lit, he straightened, and proceeded to the next recess. Here he withdrew a shimmering azure sphere, the shadows swarming in greedy anticipation, following his hand as it performed its arc. From there he continued his task, spheres casting their eerie glow over the bare rock: brilliant green, deep indigo, raging orange - until the colours merged and ran together into a blinding uniform white.

With the Ritual of the Gifts completed, and the spirits appeased, (name) closed the empty satchel and started to walk back to the cave entrance. The Archmage would be pleased.

Shrine of Sirona

The statue stood in the clearing, vines wrapping around the base. though it now stood at the center of a small village, around it were the ruins of a once magnificent city. To the natives living in the village, the statue was sacred, watching over them, preventing injury and sickness. indeed, the natives were extremely healthy and strong. it was this that inspired the elohim explorer to take it in wagon, and take it as a "gift."
The natives, enraged, pursued the explorer, even striking him a few times with thier arrows. though the arrows penetrated, they promptly fell out, and the explorer was unhurt. in triumph, he brought the statue back to the elohim lands, and was hailed as a hero for all the elohim to follow andadore.

The young priestess, which was lying on the altar felt overwhelming cold. The suggestion was too strong, They were coming for her. She waited for this moment for her whole life. Yet now, as some sort of consciousness feedback started to reset her conditioning, she began to think. She saw Them and it was the last sane thing she remembered. The shrines hall filled with hers strident and terrifying scream. It ended in a second and a deadly silence come after. The High Priest of Overlords looked at her dead face and cried: "Praise our Lords". "Amen!" an insensible, low voice filled the silence, which came after the priestess cream. It came from a thousands of throats, of the men, who were standing in the hall, each one with his hands in the air, each one with a happy grin on his face, each one with a hypnotized look. The priestesses body slowly started to turn blue...

I chase you in my dreams, through our fields in Yullda pass, and ride our horses Sam and Louie. I know those days are gone. I know you've found someone new, and I want you to know I am happy for you. I expect him to treat you well, and love you as I did. I have been given an honor by the captain of our guard, and a promotion. I'm now chief warren of the squad. Tower of Eyes

I know I'm a part of the order now and I have a duty. But i cannot help but think I am being watched, constantly...by that, that thing. I know its not literally made of eyes, but everywhere I go, I know I am being watched. What strange magics lurk within that tower, or to whom those eyes belong...no one knows. It will be good when I quit from this place, and return to the frontier, at least there you can see how many eyes your enemy has before he strikes you down. Here...you are naked.

I guess, you messed around with the last line however. Each line is supposed to have exactly 9 syllables. Now the last has 10.

Resolve the weaknesses of thy heart,
Obey the laws of thy providence,
Yield to the goodness that surrounds thee,
Grant silence to those who betray it,
Bring wrath upon those who will destroy,
Inspire love of the righteous law,
Vest in thee is the Code of Junil

A Song of Autumn

By Adam Lindsay Gordon

‘WHERE shall we go for our garlands glad
At the falling of the year,
When the burnt-up banks are yellow and sad,
When the boughs are yellow and sere?
Where are the old ones that once we had,
And when are the new ones near?
What shall we do for our garlands glad
At the falling of the year?’
‘Child! can I tell where the garlands go?
Can I say where the lost leaves veer
On the brown-burnt banks, when the wild winds blow,
When they drift through the dead-wood drear?
Girl! when the garlands of next year glow,
You may gather again, my dear—
But I go where the last year’s lost leaves go
At the falling of the year.’

Let's see... many of these might already have entries, so I'll just apologize in advance if I'm redoing something that's been done better already.
Anyway, here goes:

Castle
Hang our banners on the outward walls;
The cry is still, "They come!" Our castle's strength
Will laugh a siege to scorn; here let them lie,
Till famine and the auge eat them up.
(Source: William Shakespeare, Macbeth)

Breeding Pit
Of all the employments, working in the breeding pit was considered at once the most horrific and the most desirable. Horrific because of what we saw day after day, and what we were made to do those poor wretches. Desirable because, once you had shown yourself capable, they valued your continued service more than the blood in your veins. (Source: Alpha Centauri, modified.)

Code of Junil
Life's balance is as a star;
On one point is Law, and Law must be upheld.
If the knots of Order are loosened, chaos will spill through.
Next to Law is Duty, and Duty must be obeyed.
If the frame of Duty is broken, none shall weave life's fabric.
Opposite Law is Grace, and Grace must be preserved.
If the strands of Grace are unraveled, its design will be lost, and the people with it.
Next to Grace is Reason, and Reason must be retained.
If the web of Reason comes unwoven, madness will escape.
And above them all is Truth, and Truth must be set free.
If the wings of Truth are clipped, all voices will fall silent.
-The Code of Junil, verse 167.

Demons Altar
They go willingly, those chosen - no voices cry out in pain,
for doing so would lessen the value of what is given.

Stigmata on the Unborn
"That girl, what is her purpose? Why do people even bother with children? They could have so much more without having to feed another mouth. Is it for a helping hand later on in life? Why more of their own then? I should know from personal experience outside of this city that there are other, more efficient ways of getting help. I suppose someone is going to tell me that children are one's posteriority, one's legacy. Children will pick up where one left off after death, inheriting his or her attributes and improving on them. What do they know though? From what I've seen, the only thing children will ever inherit is the ignorance of those who came before them. As people continue to have children, people grow weaker as a whole. I have read stories about the way the dwarves came into being, starting off as immortal beings when Kilmorph first breathed life into the statues of Kheldon Ki and eventually degenerating into what they are now. I have heard rumors that there was an age before this one where magicians could raze a city with a few incantations. Why is it that so many times before we have ended up losing more instead of gaining? Invariably, it's because people have children. But people are forced to have children now in order to continue living as we are all mortal at this point. So ... our fate is to spiral down into utter stagnation ... unless we cheat! I'm going to do it. I'm going to make Agares an offering. I will offer Agares the body of that girl in exchange for knowledge, power, anything! And I will keep doing this! I at least shall not stagnate to nothing! From this day onwards, I will always possess an underlying hatred for children and will serve it."

Bazaar of Mammon (by Nikis-Knight)

Commerce is the lifeblood of an empire.
In light of this, the priests of Mammon make an offer which even rulers devout of Junil have a hard time declining. Let the royal market be seeded with a relic of the King of Avarice here, or one of his praying acoyltes there. Let his temples be unmolested in your capital. The people's hearts shall take up a little-- just a little--greed. So will their labors be intensified with avarice, and the nation profit.
Alas, such hubris has brought down empires. There is no such thing as a little greed, for Mammon is not a master content to share his subjects, and a people enslaved by their own base appetites are rare to rouse to the nobler callings of man.

Castle (by Gutus)

Blasting Workshop (by Black Whole)

Even with the torrents of rain, the smell didn't abate as he worked his way down to the pits from the palace. The Broodseers walked amongst their brood culling out those ready to serve their city. Little was wasted, they first took their turn in the palace, where Dominatii drank of them, and from their they went to their servants. Cave Of Ancestors (by the_fish)

They'll never know sacrifice, and for that I am grateful. To see the sun rise and fall, and never understand old cripples like me is a beautiful thing, and a tragic thing. My nurse comes regularly to me, to tend to my leg, and to ask me if my other still feels like its still there. It does sometimes. I dream that I wander through our old house, your golden hair shining in the sunlight and lightening my heart. It's just a title though, I'll never see action again. The demon's were driven back - so know that you and your family will be safe for generations to come. Ring of Warding (by Gutus)

"BEHOLD!"
"Behold what? I dont see anything."
"The Ring of Warding. It's complete!"
"Ring of warding?"

"What does it ward against?"

"Apparently it doesn't ward against rocks."

Shrine of Sirona (by thomas.berubeg)

Song of Autumn (by Frozen-Vomit)

Stigmata on the Unborn (by Gamestation)

Tax Office (by Gutus)

"What? What do you mean I owe you my farm?"
"It says here, you've not paid your taxes in...15 years."
"We were occupied by the Calabim! All our foodstuffs went to their war effort, I'm happy they left my family be and didn't take them to the..."
"Yeah, but for those 15 years, you didnt pay your taxes, you should be happy you're not going to jail."
"This is blasphemy, this is madness!"
"Look, this ain't Sparta - here you pay your taxes."

The Necrocomicon (by Gutus)

"Aergebthus, Abelarbtus, Toterhuseh, Louneshu, come my dear, abyss masters. Feel this fertile, virgin soul. Jikarethel, Ionel, Korutozus, Zagerethmi listen to me, I entreat you all. By the names of the dead I command you to DIE!"

Tower of Eyes (by QES)

I know I'm a part of the order now and I have a duty. But i cannot help but think I am being watched, constantly...by that, that thing. I know its not literally made of eyes, but everywhere I go, I know I am being watched. What strange magics lurk within that tower, or to whom those eyes belong...no one knows. It will be good when I quit from this place, and return to the frontier, at least there you can see how many eyes your enemy has before he strikes you down. Here...you are naked.

Mage Guild:

Alethandr limped weakly back into the heat of his tiny spartan room. He couldn't believe he had been here a month already, nor that he had so little to show for his studies, save that limp he managed to pick up today after one of his fellow students managed to summon and drop on a large stone onto his foot.
With worn lethargy he drifted over to the desk in his quarters, and after marking this tin decanter with a six fingered sigil he poured the cool water into a cup, and took a long draught. Alethandr splashed some on his face, and rubbed it into the back of his neck, as he withdrew a vial from his pocket, contained within, a firefly.
He dumped the small bug onto his palm, and whispered in a spidered tongue down to the creature which took flight. As it lit its tail, the small motes of light hung in the air, slowly intensifying. And a final word, said aloud, 'shirak' caused them to hang there, glowing with the brightness about a dozen candles.
'Maybe', he thought to himself, 'I am learning something here...' as he opened his spellbook on his lap to study for tomorrow mornings lectures.

Just a note: I believe the multipliers from God King and the Bazaar of Mammon don't stack. I suggest putting it in any holy cities you have (except the AV one).

They do stack if you are running alot of Tax if I understand the mechanics correctly. God King multiplies the base commerce of the city (the round Gold Coins), while The Bazarr then multiplies the taxed amount of the Base Commerce.

EDIT: I was gonna suggest something for the Breeding Pit but it seems to have plenty of good suggestions so I think up something for another building later.

You're thinking of vanilla civ's Bureaucracy civic. In FFH, God King only deals directly with gold and not commerce. (It says +50% :gold:, not +50% :commerce:).

I know you asked for original ideas but I couldn't think of anything that would better suit wyrmhold:-

This is where the dragons went. They lie .. Not dead, not asleep. Not waiting, because waiting implies expectation. Possibly the word we're looking for here is ... dormant.
And although the space they occupy isn't like normal space, nevertheless they are packed in tightly. Not a cubic inch there but is fliled by a claw, a talon, a scale, the tip of a tail, so the effect is like one of those trick drawings and your eyeballs eventually realize that the space between each dragon is, in fact, another dragon.
They could put you in mind of a can of sardines, if you thought sardines were huge and scaly and proud and arrogant.
And presumably, somewhere there's the key.
