View Full Version : drill sergeant and army/navy bases
miserable09 Apr 21, 2007, 07:36 PM Hello,
I've had the sergeant join the city as a specialist and have built army and navy bases but nothing seems to happen. What do these units/buildings do?

Hi this can be confusing. After building a army or navy base and having a Drill Sargent join the city. Then after 1 turn wake all units in that city and you should have a option to train the units. The button for this option is to the right of the explore button. After selecting train the units just let them sit and the drill Sargent will add experience to the units. It takes awhile but eventually happens. see the attached screenie.
rockinroger Apr 21, 2007, 10:19 PM Heres a better screen shot. Again the option is to the right of the explore button. Also check this thread for further details.

Hope this helps. Also going into the ViSapedia you can look up the mod components for the corresponding thread.
rockinroger Apr 22, 2007, 01:17 AM Just discovered another couple of interesting features.
1st a Drill Sargent will only train 3 units at a time.
2nd you can add more Drill Sargent's to the city to train more units.
3rd city guards cannot be trained.
4th It appears that generals cannot be trained.

This particular issue is discussed in the bug thread where it belongs and should continue....NOT here.
rockinroger Apr 22, 2007, 10:12 AM OK Another note on Drill Sargents. After reaching a certain level of experience, then the Drill Sargents stops training the unit. Currently I have a unit with experience of 17/26, level 5 that cant be trained any more. Also have several units above that experience/level that cant be trained either. I will try to further define this.
TAfirehawk Apr 22, 2007, 10:15 AM Please move this discussion to the appropriate thread............

Why would or even should something like this be discussed in a bug thread? It's not a bug, it's a further explanation and discussion of a particular aspect of the game. That bug thread is immensely long and could take someone ages to read through.
TAfirehawk Apr 23, 2007, 06:48 PM This is exactly a bug and already discussed in that thread.....a new bug thread will be out in 1-2 weeks and start over with zero posts for patch v3.10
johnjohn May 03, 2007, 06:31 PM WTF? This is a good post, right to the point, I needed to figure out how this feature worked and someone already posted the answer. Bug thread is too crowded already to find; thought it would be in the features thread maybe, but no luck. Why so against new posts?

I don't know why I have to keep repeating myself.....
Organization is key for everybody and that can't be done unless I start the threads or a Mod comes in to clean up old junk.
BTW, use the search feature to find something....or check our patch notes/change log.
johnjohn May 04, 2007, 06:58 PM OK, I USED the search feature and didn't find it (one close but not clear, 2 not related, the usual search results for me; nothing I could find in a FAQ, but lots of stuff about MAFs which I haven't had (Thanks You WinXP!)). I signed up for the bug access on your website and never heard back, so no access there. BUT lo and behold, some other user posted exactly what I needed and didn't take up any time from you developers to answer my question. Remember some of this stuff is obvious to you since you have been doing it for months, not so for us casual players that only get to play this a few hours a week. Sometimes the short bug note that "we are working on the Drill Sergeant issue" doesn't help us know what the issue was without wasting some of my scarce gaming time on to figure out it doing now or wait weeks to maybe get a fix.
You guys are doing a great job on this mod, don't be an a-hole and stop other people helping out. I want you to spend your time fixing the mod and coming up with new ideas; let us peons help each other out.
You have to keep repeating this since this is a stupid rule, the "Bug" thread is so huge, can't find what you are looking for a simple answer on.
TAfirehawk May 04, 2007, 10:01 PM Thanks for the name calling and foul language....great help...it so inspires me to work (and it is WORK) on ViSa.
All I ask is that things are kept organized FOR ME....but I guess that is too much to ask.
I know the bug report thread and the FAQ should be updated, that is my fault as they are my threads, but I have been too busy and most things are quite minor.

last post :)
AFAIK, once a unit that is being trained by the drill sgt is ready to be promoted, its unable to recive more xp, so yo ueither have to promote it or start traing a different unit..
