Epsilon sent us this message. It rings true to me.

Urgent News! (read before you play the MTDG save!)

Dear Loco Friends,

We come to you with grave news. We have good reason to believe that you are in serious mortal danger.

Our Caravel, Columbus, has sighted FOUR Innovian Galleys headed down the peninsula that connects them to your Eastern Coast. These Innovian galleys are carrying 2 macemen, a longbowman, a Camel archer, and 4 catapults.
The hostile intent of this is painfully clear. We can also only assume that further Camel Archers are making their way, on foot, across the land bridge.

We don’t know what kind of military forces you have at your disposal, but we urge you to rally your eastern defenses and prepare for the onslaught. The Innovian invasion fleet is currently 2 tiles north, and 1 tile North-West of that desert stone resource by your connecting peninsula.

We wish we could be of more assistance, but we hope this slight early warning will help you throw the aggressors back into the sea.
If we catch sight of more units, we’ll let you know right away.

God speed, and good luck!

- Foreign Minister General_W

Epsilon Team

I whipped a longbow in every city. I forgot to take a screenshot of our situation, so look at the save. We are researching gunpowder, which is good, but Innovia has nationalism, so it looks like they are going for calvary. Thankfully they do not yet have military tradition or gunpowder, so we have some time.

Epsilon wanted us to research divine right and trade it to them, but I said we had to research gunpowder because of the war. In the same message I thanked Epsilon for the warning.

I canceled open borders with Innovia and sent them a PM saying why.

Secondly reserch gunpowder as you said and try to get to rifling
Do you know roughly how long they will be?
What did you say in the pm?

Any possibleity of a fleet intercepting them?

Sorry for not being specific enough. Gunpowder in 7 turns. We have no fleet, just one galley far from our homeland. I'll post our correspondence after I play the next turn.

Here's the recent correspondence. I suggest we take Aloha up on this trade.

Greetings Loco,

It been a while since our last communication. As you may have noticed we have discovered Nationalism and want to know if a trade for gunpowder is still possible. We are happy to amend to original offer by allowing free trade of the technologies to other teams to fit in with your needs.

The offer of Nationalism for Gunpowder and Map is still open but we need to have an indiction on whether or not your interested. Also we would like to hear from you if you have any other deals you are open to.

All the best
Robi D, Aloha

Also, my message to Innovia. It would have been better (more diplomatic) if I hadn't been so annoyed.

Innovians,

We have spied fully loaded Innovian galleys coming towards our lands. If you are seeking to war with us, we do not wish you to gain more intelligence. If you are seeking to war with another (unlikely), we will not let you have passage into the lands of our allies.

Be assured that if you declare, we will be ready.

Here's a screenshot of the situation. We should be able to make/whip enough longbows in time for their first assault (~2 turns) If they come down the land bridge things will be more difficult. I will start work on some galleys (maybe whip one, build 2-3) in Reading and the city to the left of Reading (I somehow forgot the name).

Strong message! Take the trade and as i said earlier go for rifling for riflmen have we got a message back?

Joe Harker

By the way i think we upset them with the message :) but we couldn't take any chances

I don't know if it worth asking them where the transports were going?

also is it possible to ask for a loan, we do have some old units that need upgrades

I looked at the save and it seems that we are pretty screwed.

We have a GP (i think GA) in one of the cities. we can use it to discover education and trade the technology.

I can think of several options.
1. try to persuade innovia for a peace. in exchange for technology
2. try to make a defensive pact with one of Innovia's neighbours.
3. Try to sell some of our technologies for cash. (I prefer to avoid losing the city. but having cash will help us to upgrade units in the case of war)
4. Accept the fact that we are going to lose a major city and try to recapture the city later (hopefully they wont raze it).

Can we talk with Innovia about option 1? If so how do we do this?
If that wont work lets try option 2. Maybe even explain (threat) Innovia that we will try to put them in two fronts.

Point 1 too late i think, unlikely to happen

Point 2 I think they would stay out of this, after all innovia is the strongest miltary wise however we could use them to put preesure on them to stop and go to talks, although i wouldn't bank on it

Maybe we can create a triple pact. If we think they can stand being at with two fronts, maybe try 3 fronts?

How can we do this? who is in charge of diplomacy?

I don't know, i think jeep jeep is because i have only joined recently and he has been playing on his own really,

I still think the majority of nations will still stay out of this although i guess there is no harm in asking. also support won't come for a while so for a few turns we are on our own anyway

Turn 162 War Update

Innovia landed their forces on hills near B&O. Just realized I forgot to take a screenshot again  . So sorry about the lack of them lately, but it looks like at least levyavi has been looking at the save. :goodjob:

Once again, the Innovian army consists of 4 cats, 2 maces, 1 camel archer, and 1 longbow. Not much of an attack, but it may be too much for us. The city will be defended by two longbows, an axe, and two warriors. EVerything basically hinges on this turn. If they take the city now, we are in big trouble. If not, we have two longbows to reinforce next turn and we will also have time to build more. I'd say the city has about a 50-50 chance.

Thanks. Did you see the letter from Aloha?

Joe Harker
Apr 28, 2007, 12:36 PM
yes, thank god, you don't suppose epilson is planning something, i would have doubt it because they have warned us and know we will be ready for them if they did come, like you said in your reply to them

jeejeep
Apr 28, 2007, 02:17 PM
I don't think so, but why don't we send a message asking them for the 15 turn peace anyway. Say that some people on our team wanted reassurance or something, don't tell them about Aloha and our suspicions.

Also, how about a thank-you to Aloha. They sure came through for us big time. I might as well be demanding now that I'm not the one writing the letters. ;)

Joe Harker
Apr 28, 2007, 03:42 PM
Ok will do
also ask aloha about what they would do if epsilon invade

also you have already ask epsilon about 15v turn peace treaty so i would wait at least a day to ask them again
I knew there would be a catch about being foreign minister!

jeejeep
Apr 28, 2007, 04:54 PM
I tried to get all friendly and told them they didn't need to sign any treaty, we knew they would'nt invade. Obviously that was a mistake.

Still, you're right we might as well wait a day or two. I'm just nervous about the possibility of an Epsilon surprise attack. If they attack, we're pretty much dead.

Joe Harker
Apr 30, 2007, 07:20 AM
Dear Loco,

We must say that we were a bit disappointed to see Joe's comments
revealing our involvement in warning you about the impending attack in
the UN – but it's not that big of a deal. Our relationship with
Innovia isn't exactly "buddy-buddy" anyway.

We will be happy to agree to guaranteed peace with you as you
suggested for the next 15 turns. Consider it done.

We'd also like to tell you that we have totally rebuffed Innovia's
offer of a Non-Aggression Pact that they have been pressuring us for.
(hence the recent strain in our relations) – we're hoping that, at the
least, our implicit threat of force will keep Innovia from sending all
their military down at you.

Finally, we'd like to suggest the idea of a resource trade again. The
extra happiness and/or Health may be a great asset to you in
withstanding Innovian pillaging campaigns.
We are even willing to go so far as to trade you our only source of
Ivory (in exchange for gold perhaps?) if you think it will help you
withstand Innovia's camel archers.
Let us know if you're interested.

Good luck! And kill a few Innovians for The Leader!

What should we do in reply?

I will say sorry for the comments i made but also say that by that time they would have guess it was epsilon as we had closed borders beforehand and they seem to know there was a third party involed

Joe Harker

Also on the ground, I would attack the Camal rider with the nearby cat and then it's escourting longbow, that should win, then move the longbow to the west to the hill that the cat attacked from

jeejeep
Apr 30, 2007, 06:16 PM
A sad day for Loco. B&O, possibly our greatest city, was lost last turn. Looks like they just suicided most of their cats and then attacked. One cat withdrew, and they took the city with no units left to spare. It was so close. Just one more defender and reinforcements would have arrived, saving the city. As it is, we stand little chance to win this game now, but at least we don't seem to be in much more danger from Innovia. After we attacked and killed a catapult, all they have left is two cats, a half strength longbow, and two maces. That can't do much damage to us. However, we must still prepare for the possibility of another fleet.

What about the letter?

also a letter from aloha

To answer your question, our position on an Epsilon is that we would be furious that they would take advantage of you in this way with no prior warnings. It is interesting to note that both Epsilon and Piffle have been silent so far on the current events.

As for your trade offer i'm afraid that we are not in a position to give you gold for a whole tech at this time, however would your team be interested in trading banking for another tech. Would you be interested in Compass and Horseback Riding?

Again what do you want to do?

Latest war update

152643
Here's the position. It looks like they are waiting for another shipment. If they are going to continue to attack by sea, we need to get a navy going. I'll start a galley next turn.

I think banking for compass would be good but if I remember correctly we would need some gold to make that fair.

jeejeep
May 13, 2007, 08:58 AM
Here is the war situation two turns later. We have built lots of catapults to attack their stack. However, I think we need to wait until they get out of the woods and we have a few more regular units (not cats) gathered.

152898

We finished Gunpowder, and the Gunpowder + World Map-Nationalism trade should go through next turn. We have three options of what to do next. We could research Military Tradition (19 turns) for calvary, we could research engineering (9)-Chemistry(12) for grenadiers, or we could go towards riflemen with Printing Press(13)-Replaceable Parts (19)-Rifling(25).

We are done with building longbows now, we will start building muskets. I will also put one city on galley production and a low-production city on cat production.

Joe Harker
May 13, 2007, 03:13 PM
Personally i think riflemen are better (however i normally play with the english so iam not sure how good the standard rifles are)

jeejeep

Ok I'll go for rifles for now.

War Update: We have some cats and a few inferior troops ready. The picture is below. Do we think this is enough to attack and wipe out their stack (which is a mace, a longbow, and two cats)? If so do we want to, or wait for a larger stack to use our cats against? I vote we attack now and take back the position. Maybe if we do we can get a settler up there eventually to rebuild.

153031

This is more long term, but I think that if we survive this war we need to expand like crazy and take as much space as we can. Maybe even get ready for another war with Innovia. The only way we can survive is to have a bigger civ.

Joe Harker
May 16, 2007, 08:42 AM
Go attack, if it fails well we have at least weaken them!

Joe Harker
May 22, 2007, 07:30 AM
All their units are destroyed, should we ask for peace?

On your earlier post, i agree the only way we can be consider a world power is through expanison, also we need to contiue increasing our miltary,

jeejeep
May 22, 2007, 03:18 PM
Their units were not killed. They got them away just in time on some ships. Now what do we do?

153350

Joe Harker
May 23, 2007, 03:19 AM
Hate to say but we will have to wait to see which way they go, try to keep equal numbers in the east and west and hope we get our troops over quickly enough wherever they land. (on the plus side we do now have muskets)

jeejeep

I'm going to be away this weekend (Friday until Monday), so we need someone else to play a turn or two. All you have to do is open the save, play the turn, and send an e-mail (with the save enclosed). This e-mail should be to team piffle, ginger ale, and regentman. It really doesn't take too much time at all. If anyone can do this, say so. If not, could someone please post tomorrow in the turn thread and say that there will be a dalay? Thanks in advance.

Joe Harker
May 25, 2007, 02:58 AM
I will try to play it, but if i can't i will post in the turn tracker

Anything you want doing?

jeejeep
May 28, 2007, 10:03 AM
We're dead. Six camel archers appeared out of nowhere. The city is only defended by a musket, a longbow,a catapult and an axe. Our only hope is that we can retake the city if they don't raze it, but that is pretty unlikely.

Joe Harker

We not dead yet, (in deep s***, yes but not dead)
Keep producing units, 50% cats 50% muskets, maybe turn down the science slider and upgrade some units and ask for help with techs from other civs.

Basically, make them pay for there victories with blood! lots of it!

Welcome back! hope your weekend was good!

Joe Harker

Also i am going to ask for help from other teams, if thats ok,

Joe Harker
May 31, 2007, 03:37 AM
I have seen the save, pictue below, i would suggest moving the longbow protecting the cats to go to the city, the cats to attack the camels and the musket man coming towards the city (not the one inside) to move one space closer to the city, just in case one really weak unit ends up capturing it, we can counter straight away!

jeejeep
May 31, 2007, 12:34 PM
Alas, I didn't see the previous post until I had already played. I moved all of our troops into the city to see what they would do. I figured we could use the cats next turn. If they split up their forces, we should bwe able to kill them by 1) use a weak unit to weaken the camel, 2) use a stronger unit to finish it off. There is also a screenshot here of troops that are on the way. I am tempted to switch research to engineering for pikes, do we think this is a good idea? Muskets just aren't good enough against camel archers.

Proberly a good idea to go for engineering, how long will it take?

Got this message

Dear Loco,

We are both alarmed and saddened to hear that things have become so
desperate! Unfortunately, our options for offering aid are a bit
limited.

Perhaps if you could be more clear on what exactly the problem is, we
might be able to find something we can do to help?

Let us know, and good luck!

Any help, declaration of war, money for upgrades, units, we are fighting with barely nothing, and techs, ( particulary printing press for getting nearer to rifling), we would even pay for what we "borrowed" from you after the war if you want!
We have already lost one city, in serious danger of losing the city of Pennsylvania and we have spotted more boats and camel archers coming down the land bridge.

Also we have won £500,000!, shame we can't transfer some of it to civ 4!
