I was surfing around and came across this Blitzkrieg II website (http://bkportal.com/default.asp?content=news&page=4)which has a strong following by the looks of it. I downloaded one of the unit mod packs and noticed that their units also use DDS files similar in layout to the Civ 4 units. As I am at work right now I cant really tell much about the DDS files themselves.
Could these same DDS files be useful to those creating world war II units for civ?
Either way I hope it helps someone :)

DDS files are just the textures for the actual unit models. Without the model files they are useless.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of modders who may have made the shape of the vehicle and need an appropriate texture to skin with rather than having to scan profiles from books.
There was also a tut on their website on how they make their units. The units use a Maya 3.0 format.

Now that I have had a chance to look at them, they are too small.
At the time of posting I was at work and di not have a DDS viewer and was going off screenshots from their site. :(
