View Full Version : A Mod that makes the Civs Distinct

I"ve heard about the Fall from Heaven mod and the thing which is most appealing is how it makes the Civs a lot more distinct. From what I've heard, there is one Civ which can only build 3 cities but has multiple traits, one Civ that can only raze cities and not capture them, one that gets bonuses for coastal cities but penalties for inland cities. This is far more interesting than Vanilla Civ where each nation basically follows the same path to victory.

But I'm not as enthusiastic about the whole fantasy, magic, necromancy aspect. I'd like to play semi-normal civ game, but with great distinctions between the civs.

Any recommendations? (I don't have Warlords by the way)

Thanks

As a Fall from Heaven team member, I would say : play FFH :D I do not think they are any realistic other mod with such differences between the civs.

But if you really do not want to play with fantasy stuff, you may try Rhye's mod (each civ have a unique power) or maybe Total Realism mod (each civ have a new UU that is completly new (that do not replace an exsiting unit). In the same vein, Vista mod is also a really popular realistic mod, but like I said, a mod with such civs difference than FFH but in a realistic concept do not exist yet.

Rhye's and Total Realism are good choices. Rhye's UHV (Unique Historical Victory) and Unique Power add a dimension of realism that I find very satisfying, and Total Realism gives you something like 5 or 6 UU's per civ, plus civ-specific great people. :) Both have Vanilla versions.

My friend does indeed rave about FFH a lot and it is a truly impressive project. I actually like fantasy somewhat; I play HOMM and Warlords and Warlords Battlecry, but it's some of the necromancy and demonic things that I just don't like, personally. I like dragons and dwarves and orcs and things, I'm a big Tolkien fan.

But I will try the other some of the other mods that people are recommending.

If you dont want to play Vanilla games then i converted FfH1 to Warlords, and have made quite a few unique units changes. Its called Realm of Fantasy.
Best to convert to Warlords anyways with the new Expansion coming soon!!!
Course i am a big fan of Warlords, or you couldnt tell, LOL? :p

You cant lose with any of the recommendations in this thread. And the best thing is that its not like you have to shell out a bunch of money to try them. Download them, play a little bit and if its not your cup of tea then go on to the next one.
