I am in the process of editing the religions in civ4 and have a few questions on how to work with the graphics.
1. Where abouts does the game specify which 'gamefont.tga' icons to use for each religion. The religion xml file only specifies buttons and techtree buttons.
2. Is there a tutoiral on how to edit the religion buttons found under 'Art\Interface\Buttons\Religions' as I am not having any luck. I created new buttons and maintained the alpha channel but they still come up as pink boxes in the game. Is there a specific way I am supposed to save the dds files?
3. What is the associated dds file with an underscore d in the same religious button folder. (i.e christian_d.dds). I noticed these are smaller black/white versions of the button but do not know what they are used for?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I suppose eveything black and white is an alpha mask.
By the way, which app did you use to edit them ?
What was the dds format you saved ?

1. Where abouts does the game specify which 'gamefont.tga' icons to use for each religion. The religion xml file only specifies buttons and techtree buttons. The icons on the gamefont.tga & gamefont_75.tga files must be in the same order (left to right) that the religions are listed in the xml file (top to bottom).
3. What is the associated dds file with an underscore d in the same religious button folder. (i.e christian_d.dds). I noticed these are smaller black/white versions of the button but do not know what they are used for? These are used in the Religion Advisor screen for when your civ has not found that religion yet. They should be in B&W and when your civ has the new religion they will be in color as in the screenshot from my modpack below.

Sorry I don't have a screenshot of them in B&W but I'm not where I can do that right now. Anyway, I think you get the idea.

Amra's right, d is for darkened and are used as unchosen state religion. There's also a tutorial about editing tga files, but it's not what you're after. maybe, here, you miss an XML file.

Amra, you hit the nail on the head...thanks :goodjob:
I modified the additional gamefont_75.tga file and the icons appeared correctly in the game. One icon is a bit off but thats easily corrected.
You explination on the underscore D files was the solution to my pink problem. It turns out the pink was the lack of a dimmed icon as once I allocated the religions to a city they appeared fine. :)

Another quick question, where are the circled icons located so I can modify the religion icon?
Screenshot below of what I am refering to.

Try Art/Interface/MainScreen/AD_BTN_ReligiousAdvisor.dds
Obviously back it up first in case that's not it as I'm not really sure.
[EDIT]I took another look at the dds file I pointed you to and I think that is actually for the vertical icon that will appear on the right side of the screen advising you that you can switch religions. I don't think it is the one you are looking for.
I'll keep looking. :mischief:
