Everyone who offered advice/criticism in my many threads and posts requiring help, usually for very obvious stuff ;)
I think that's it. If I've forgotten anyone, please feel free to hire a hitman to kill me ask me to include you ;)
Quinzy Apr 29, 2007, 10:19 AM Excelent! Really well done mate :)
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 10:20 AM Thanks,Quinzy :)
odintheking Apr 29, 2007, 10:20 AM Looks great! Most of the animations are clean and nicely done. One thing is the death. Alot of creators do this, but it still bugs me, (I used to do it, too). While he is falling, his feet would be in the air. If his feet stayed in the same place while he fell, he would break his ankles. It's just not physically possible. Also, the death is too slow, speed it up so when he hits the floor you get that "Holy crap! Look how hard he hit the floor! That's awesome!" effect, ;).
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 10:22 AM I'll bear that in mind when I make my next unit ;)
Also, do you mind (seeing as you made the palette) if I enter him into the competition?
odintheking Apr 29, 2007, 10:23 AM Sure, man, you did the hard part.
Quinzy Apr 29, 2007, 10:27 AM In all the west animations, the leg goes through the cloak :(
In the attacks, I mean.
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 10:32 AM Thanks for spotting that, Quinzy!
@odin: thanks :)
Quinzy Apr 29, 2007, 10:35 AM Not at all :)
It's something that can easily be fixed in a paint program or something- no need to re-render or anything drastic like that.
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 11:02 AM That's convenient- Just so happens Poser has decided it doesn't want me altering the cape! *grumble* ;)
flamescreen Apr 29, 2007, 11:31 AM I get an "Invalid file ID"
Otherwise it's a great add.
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 11:35 AM It's been taken down "for maintenance". It should be back up shortly :)
EDIT: It's now back up.
Quinzy Apr 29, 2007, 12:22 PM Yay, it's all fixed now :) It looks fantastic Virote!
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 12:38 PM Thanks again, Quinzy :)
Civinator Apr 29, 2007, 01:37 PM This is a very nice unit.
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 01:46 PM Thanks, Civinator :)
Plotinus Apr 29, 2007, 01:52 PM Is this your first unit? Amazing! I think this is great.
(Very) minor points of constructive criticism:
(1) The spear seems to wiggle in an odd way as he moves his hand during the Fidget. Is he waggling his wrist or something here?
(2) The Attack B seems identical to the Attack A except that he doesn't step forward. I'd say that if you're going to have two attacks you might as well make them a bit different, although with a spear it's hard to know what to do other than have him jab it.
(3) The Defend is a good idea, but the frame rate is too slow - it looks a bit jerky. If you want him to move that slowly in this animation you should probably have more animation frames so it's a bit smoother.
(4) In the Victory, he should start in the pose that comes at the end of Fortify, and end in the Default pose. So since he moves his feet in the Fortify, he should move them back during the Victory. Also, I think this animation would be much better if he moved his body during the celebration - twist a bit or something - otherwise he looks a bit robotic. As a general rule, pretty much all movements - even if it seems to be just the arm moving, as here - should be accompanied by hip/abdomen/chest/neck movements (or at least some of them, at least a little bit). It adds life to the figure.
These are really minor quibbles though. This is a really good unit and I look forward to seeing more from you!
Virote_Considon Apr 29, 2007, 01:59 PM No, this is my 2nd ;)
(1) He's supposed to be scratching his wrist, yeh :)
(2) I figured the Hoplite has those 2 attacks, so Diomedes could, as well. However, I did have an Attack C, which had the traditional overarm stab you see on many vase paintings. However, it went disastrously! So I omitted it from the final unit.
(3)+(4) I'll bear these in mind for future units. ;)
Thanks for the criticism! :)
