Hi, I have vista on my computer which i believe has Direct X ver 10 on it....I want to install and play the game which runs under direct X 9c, it prompts me to do so during installation, I have declined to install it and the game doesnt work.....My question is ......if i have to install direct X 9c to run this game does it then become the default Direct X ???
So for the moment i havent installed the game as i am scared i will be installing an inferior Direct X

I've installed 9.0c on a Vista machine with no obvious ill effects. DX10 is still there. Files may be added by doing this that will enable your game to play, it it won't already.

Actually I run Vista with DX10 and never install DX9c. But Civ4 can run on my machine. Should I install DX9c for better speed (maybe?)?

Thanks for the info......but will future programs/games use the newly installed direct X 9c as a DEFAULT or actively look for Dirext X 10 ??

How did you get it to work ??? when i double click the icon in desktop it says "cant run coz not found file .......Direct X 9c file"

The only way it seems possible is from hitting play on the DVD (playing from DVD rather than HD)

I am just install Civ4 per normal, install Warlords, apply patch 2.08. And that's all. Click on warlords icon to run, and it run well until now.
