View Full Version : Averof Cruiser 03/05/2007
Orthanc May 03, 2007, 11:01 PM This is the famous, early 20th Century Greek warship named apparently after the guy that put alot of money into it. I imagine it'll work great as any generic dreadnaught-ish ship. Also of note, you can spot this thing 'from space' using the satellite images on google maps:mischief: .

Tank_Guy#3 May 04, 2007, 11:32 AM El J would love this for AoI. It would fit in very well.
The attack look a bit weak, but this doesn't take away from the fact it's very cool!
Question: Does it really sink that fast in game?
Ozymandias May 04, 2007, 02:18 PM Very nice indeed.

Dark Crusader May 04, 2007, 03:01 PM Wow! good job.
Orthanc May 04, 2007, 06:43 PM Thanks everyone!
Tank_Guy#3: Yes, the animations shown in the preview should run at that speed in-game too.

Now all we need is someone to make Karteria:

Plotinus May 05, 2007, 11:38 AM As always, a really nice ship. Very good!
Thorvald of Lym May 05, 2007, 04:01 PM Definitely a keeper! :D
odintheking May 05, 2007, 07:01 PM Smashing! Really nice.
FieldMarshall May 08, 2007, 07:01 PM Older, pre-World War I ship units are a rarity to find. This is an amazing vessel, and an excellent example of a unit type that has very few actual units. This ship works well alongside Wyrmshadow's Casemate BB's and his HMS Dreadnought.
Excellent work!

Happy sailing!
What town is it in?
Orthanc May 11, 2007, 01:49 AM It's just south of Athens, the town is called Faliron, but really if you're just looking at the satellite image you can't tell it's seperate from Athens. Look for a harbor, and a big boat (however, I will add that the stern seems to have a tent or something over it).

Ares de Borg May 11, 2007, 05:43 AM PS: The ship north of it is the HNS VELOS (ex-USS Charrette), an old Fletcher-class DD from WW2.

:)
The Last Conformist May 11, 2007, 07:12 AM It kinda looks like a French predreadnought ...
It's basically good, but the death seems off to me. Can't really describe what's wrong ... the sinking motion just doesn't look natural.
Orthanc May 11, 2007, 10:09 AM Well it definitely is a pre-dreadnaught, though I think it was built in Italy.
As for the death, maybe I didn't make the hull go up high enough from the explosion, that's all I can think of fixing there. It does sink fast for a big boat, but it does after all have to go from afloat, react to the explosion, then become completely submerged all in 12 frames.
The Last Conformist May 11, 2007, 10:41 AM Looking at it further, I think the problem is that it should glide backwards as it sinks; being basically torpedo-shaped, differential water resistance would make it glide aftwards like on a ramp.
