View Full Version : I have 2 of a resource but only one shows up
CapnKill May 07, 2007, 12:23 PM I'm new to Civ 4... and have not dove into the manual yet but maybe you guys can help me out.
I have 2 copper within my borders and I have a mine built on each, I don't know if I have to have that or not. Anywho, I talked to Isabella and on the trade screen it showed that I had 2... but I didn't trade it, cause she didn't have anything I wanted.
So two turns later I went to talk to her again, and now it shows that I only have 1 to trade... Nothing has changed as far as I know, I still have a mine built on it, I have a road going to it (is this even necessary?) and I haven't traded it to anyone else... the resource screen doesn't mention anything about that.
Any other reasons why I might not have access to both resources?
I am not at war... so no enemy units on the tile, I'm just trying to figure it out.
I'm sure I'm missing something, but no idea what... :(
feldmarshall May 07, 2007, 12:27 PM do you automate worker and uncheck "workers don't replace improvement" option? your worker might have replace your mine
Onagan May 07, 2007, 12:35 PM I still have a mine built on it, I have a road going to it (is this even necessary?) and I haven't traded it to anyone else... the resource screen doesn't mention anything about that
Yes it's necessary to have them linked up with roads/rivers to your capital.
Further I don't have the solution, but are you building the Colossus? Maybe your second bronze isn't available when building anything which requires bronze?

That doesn't happen.
CapnKill May 07, 2007, 01:07 PM I do automate my workers (is that a bad idea? I know it was not a good thing in Civ 3... but I figured its probably better now). However, I did look at the tile, and it looks like mine... I even put a worker on it and didn't see an option to build something more appropriate ...
ParadigmShifter May 07, 2007, 01:28 PM If one is far away and the road or river goes through enemy territory (or lands of other civs you don't have open borders with?) the supply line is cut too. A barbarian city would cut the supply line too.
CapnKill May 07, 2007, 01:44 PM I'll look at it more closely... maybe provide a screen shot... it is on a multiplayer game me and two friends are playing.
I guess I'm a bit frustrated cause I can't see a screen that clearly tells me what resources I have and where I am getting them from... I remember in Civ 3 it woudl tell me where a particular resource is coming from... can I do that in Civ IV?
CapnKill May 07, 2007, 01:50 PM How bout this.. could I have possibly started building something that requires copper? so now I can't trade all of it away?...
KMadCandy May 07, 2007, 02:41 PM no, building something that requires a resource doesn't take it away from your screen. if you trade it away during the build, you can't keep building it i think. but say you have 5 copper, if you're building 58,000 axemen . while you build them, the copper still shows up.
the roads (or a river, some kind of route connection) are necessary. if she had copper of her own, it wouldn't show up on the trade screen with her at all, so that's not what's going on. i can't think of anything other than that the road or mine disappeared. you cannot pillage your own roads, so it would have to the mine that's gone, but you said the mines are still there, so i dunno.

Go into the foreign advisor screen (F4). Go to the resource screen. If there is anyone who doesn't have copper (such as Isabella) then copper will be displayed next to your leaderhead - one copper symbol for every copper you have.

No.
AThousandYoung May 08, 2007, 01:14 AM Do you get resources if you don't work the resource tile?
Onagan May 08, 2007, 04:29 AM yes, you get the resource while not working the tile.
weltenbrand May 08, 2007, 10:21 AM Does one of your coppercitys only has a conection to the capitol via a searoute?
Was the searoute blocked by a borderexpansion of barbs or another civ?
:)

flamingzaroc121 May 08, 2007, 10:28 AM did you trade away your resource to another civ?
The Navy Seal May 08, 2007, 12:01 PM If she had a Coastal city and it got destroyed and the only way you could give her one of your copper now you can only give 1.

Hmmm.... interesting, I will look into this, she is at war and getting her booty kicked pretty good. This would be pretty deceiving if that was the case...
Thedrin May 09, 2007, 12:44 AM That wouldn't be the case. If her trade connection to you was destroyed in some way, you wouldn't be able to offer her any copper.

Yes but if one of CapnKill's cities that has a copper is not connected to the rest of his empire this might do it.
