View Full Version : Citizens Poll: Disbanding Malinalco?
Immortal May 07, 2002, 07:24 PM Greetings, as there has been significant citizen requests for this poll, I bring it before you today. We captured an aztec city called Malinalco, its placement conflicts with our own plans. It interferes with what we wanted to build nearby.
Should we disband this city so we can build another one nearby?
I request EVERYONE vote here and place your views for others to see. I can already forsee this being an extremely emotional debate, it is a deeply emotional topic.
My personal views are strongly against abandoning cities, I believe it is a crime of war to disband a city filled with foreign nationals to replace it with our own. I also do not like the unhapiness that will affect nearby cities by this decision.
Plexus May 07, 2002, 07:33 PM Disbanding this city would be a crime against our morals. I oppose abandoning Malinalco.
Chieftess May 07, 2002, 08:23 PM Even if we disband, (getting a worker out of it), we can have it build onto the new city.
Zur May 07, 2002, 09:53 PM It interferes with what we wanted to build nearby (with the settler from Khatovar).
Immortal, at the time you posted this, it is accurate, but due to the continuance of the turn chat, we have moved that settler East to found a new city at its present location near Anyang. We would need another settler to found this city. Pls. edit your post to reflect the new situation.
For the record, citizens should be aware that we wanted to found a city 1 square south of Malinalco. I am not sure if this is the case at present though.
Contrary to the impression that had somehow been imparted to the room during the chats, (hey man, I was merely asking for the poll to be held so we at least have a choice) I have voted no in this poll since moving 1 square in any direction would cause equal or greater overlap with adjacent cities, thus not maximising our use of territory in the long run. (Of course we could relocate all the adjacent cities and hold polls for these :groucho: )
chiefpaco May 07, 2002, 09:59 PM I voted 'no'. I don't see how moving it would improve things by so much to justify another settler produced. We could use those 30 shields for an Immortal!

I don't believe in slaughter in any of its methods.
donsig May 08, 2002, 04:29 PM We won't raze enemy cites.
We vote against abandoning an enemy city to move it a little.
But we joyfully sacrifice our citizens to build libraries.
I just don't understand it.:crazyeye:
Anyway, even if this poll is moot I voted against abandoning the city. Personally I don't see anything wrong with this - we're just telling people to pack up an move somewhere else. BUT since there is an objection raised on moral grounds and since we can surely afford to leave the city where it is without jeopardizing our country then let's leave it.

I don't know who this is directed at Donsig, probably the people in general? At any rate, I was in complete agreement with you about not rushing libraries, I don't believe in killing civilians, no matter what the reason.
andyo May 08, 2002, 04:46 PM i leave the decision in the hands of our wise and benevolent rulers - whose enlightened rule has brought us this far, and will take us the rest of the way
Cyc May 08, 2002, 05:12 PM I think Malinalco is in a great spot.

What do you mean? Are you implying that I am trying to sway the vote?
Immortal, I wasn't trying to imply anything about you here. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer in that post. I was talking about the impression people were getting of me that I was in favour of moving the city. I was in favour of posting the poll, but not moving the city. Hope this clears things up. :)

Well, if we are forcably displacing people from their homes, then I would be against it, but I thought (like Donsig said) we could assume that they're perfectly happy to move or stay where they are. ;)
Immortal May 08, 2002, 06:48 PM fair enough brother.
I never meant to imply that the persons whom requested the poll (You weren't the only one, I believe 3 people including yourself wanted it) were wrong in their request. If the poll came across as this, I wish to correct it in any way, please PM me with the details.
However, I do stand by my opinion that enslaving or displacing innocent civilians (real or electronic) is morally reprehensable.
