I have always thought that the closes any city could be to another city (regardless of nationality) was 3 tiles. I am now seeing in my current game that the AI is allowing some of their different citys with two tiles.

I have been playing for some time now but I still consider myself a novice. What gives have I just not paid close enough attention to the rules?

cities on different landmasses need only 1 tile between them instead of 2.

cities on different landmasses need only 1 tile between them instead of 2.

That explains it then, these are islands. Funny I thought I was restricted to the two tiles before. Good information to know.

Thanks

talking about city proximity, what happens to the overlapped tiles? They go to the bigger one or are shared?

In the last game I played I had two cities sharing two tiles - one seemed permanently assigned to one city, and the other permanently assigned to the other - this annoyed me to no end as I really wanted to switch the banana plantation to the production city that needed more food to work its mines...

If there is a way around this I would love to hear it.

Sure there is go into the city screen of the city you want to have the tile, and double click where the tile is, event hou its blured out now. It shoudl then become visible to your current city.

To clarify: Go to the city screen that is currently working the improvement, and stop working the tile. Go to the city that you want to work the improvement, click once (will remove the "fog" from the tile), click it again to work in the other city.

U dont have to stop the other city from working the tile. Your actions in the new city will override it.
