:thanx: I love your units, Wyrm!

There is a little bug in your definition. :p The original type of J-11 is not Su-30MKK. It is the Su-27SK which assembled in China, like this:

http://img1.qq.com/news/20041223/1194294.jpg

Someone confuse J-11 and Su-30MKK, including Chinese civilian stations... In fact, they are not the same type.

Rest of the Worlds Air Forces Post-war (I think) that doesn't belong to US or Russia.... Will you then post one very interresting one in this thread or have I missed a seperate one. I'm thinking of Royal Air Force and their "brothers" the in the Fleet Air Arms.

I believe I have seen pictures and registers on planes like Jaguar, Lightnings, Javelins on some previews from Wyrmshadow.

Then how can one find all the thousands of units this superman has created. Singlehanded he has changed Civ3 time period 1900-2000 and beyond.
Handling techs that can fit into this to cover just a portion is impossible.
My hat off to you Wyrmshadow....

Just be patient. It takes time. At the moment I am doing US aircraft. All the rest will be posted here sometime in the future. I decided that individually all the rest of the nations didn't have enough to warrant a seperate thread for each.. I just like to consolidate and keep things neat and tidy.

always a pleasure to be patient on you Wyrmshadow.
When you publish you flood the DB with top class units. The hardest is to find time to DL them and then fit them into a mod.
They are just too great to be left outside any decent mod from 1900-2000.

Will wait with eager for above all Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arms, they got lots of fine and very different 50-60s jets.

You are incorrect. The attack slot is for Air-to-air, so its firing from its tail turret. The run slot is used for the bombing animation. Since this is a gunship and it strafes the area with no bombs... well you get the rest.

Hi Wyrmshadow,

I love the innovation you made with the Ju-52 dropping paras behind it and the C-47 towing a glider. I think it's GREAT to have the option to give transport planes a "drop" capacity and lends a whole new dimension to air transport in the game.

Do you have plans by chance of adding this feature to more of your transports out there. You have a lot of absolutely fantastic transport A/C that I'd like to include in my games but it seems sort of hard to incorporate them without a "drop" feature. :(

Thanks,

Thanks Ares, I think I have Wyrmshadow's paradrop animation tucked away somewhere on my hard drive. The only qualm I have with it is the one I have just shows a single parachute floating to the ground. I think it would be a better representation of a paradrop to have maybe 4-6 chutes all dropping to the ground in a group.

Of course I could give it a try myself and see if I can come up with something along those lines. Maybe that will be my next project.

The F-4EJ Kai is ready.

From 1968, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force purchased a total of 140 F-4EJ Phantoms. Political controversy arose over the "self-defence" force's having "bombers", consequently the aerial refueling and ground attack capabilities were removed (ground attack capabilities were restored in subsequent upgrades). Mitsubishi built 138 under license in Japan and 14 unarmed reconnaissance RF-4Es were imported. Of these, 96 F-4EJs have since been modified to the F-4EJ Kai (改、 "modified") standard with laser inertial navigation system, APG-66J radar and other avionics upgrades.

And even when the quality is correct, having your aircrafts have a huge advantage, they give a very nice feeling of consistency!

Do you also plan to make some German and Italian planes sometime?

I'm not gernerally a fan of the modern era; prefer medieval.
But I was looking through and must say that this is quite a work.
I am especially drawn to the de Havilland Vampire.

You see, my dad passed away Feb 1. In looking through all the old photos to prepare his memorial service, we came across the picture below. That's dad on the top of the plane, just in case you missed the red arrow. He apprenticed at DH after the war. Another of his big projects was to design the structure for the instrument panel on the Comet. I don't know what his job was for the Vampire. Dad went on to work for Canadair, Lockheed, Western Gear, and of course, Boeing.

A few of his achievements:

Helping to design the first HUD (head-up display); he used my motorcycle helmet, weighted with sand to determine what sort of energy the pilots head would have to absorb if it slammed into the display prism.

Helping to design the F-14 weapons rail.

Helping to design the gatling gun aiming system on the A-10. He got to watch it destroy old tanks & trucks in the Nevada desert.
Helping to design the stairway & flight deck for the 747.

Lead on a brand new design for outward & upwardly opening doors on the 767 (he received 4 patents for this, it was instrumental on getting the 767 certified for trans-oceanic flight with only 2 engines.)

Lead on the design of the new wing for the 777.

Anyway, I've co-opted your thread enough. Thank you for your patience.

How do you tell the Vampire from the Sea Vixen?

3 big indicators from the picture. The Sea Vixen is a BIG plane compared to the Vampire. Also, the Vixen has a massive horitontal stabilizer in the tail, mounted high. Also the cockpit is off to the side like the EE Canberra bomber.

The Vampire is much smaller, canopy is centrally located on the fuseladge and the horizontal tail is mounted midway on the tail.

I don't know whether he laid claim to the original FS models, and I don't really care about that anyway. All I know is that his models are far superior to the original FS models - all work that takes a good amount of time. His UV mapping and texture work are also not trivial.

With that being said, it has always been my policy to give credit where credit is due and it's not a jewel from my crown to mention him as co-author to all my units that use his models.

I will try to do this without bursting a blood vessel.

I currently have 1398 units. I don't feel like writing something LONG in each and every unit entry.

I post ALL my units in large and organized thematic threads so that poeple will not need to go searching through the entire forum for a certain unit. So there is no need to post a link to the thread if there is only 1 thread. Plus MOST poeple don't even bother looking at the database and would NEVER know I've uploaded them unless I TELL them in threads such as these.

Yes it is clear that these are Civ3 units because they are posted in the Civ3 units section. If you don't understand how the Database is organized, then I can't help you. It's sounds like a personal problem, bad eye-sight or poor schooling.

I have made over 1000. That's right, ONE THOUSAND units. I don't have time to post in-game pictures. Only this past week have I actually played the damn game for the 1st time in over a year.

Noobs: Unless they prove useful, I really don't care about them.

Steph
Mar 15, 2008, 03:28 AM
I had the feeling that finding them in the Civilization III > Civ3 - creation & customization sub forums, or in the Civ III section of the database would have been a good hint wether they are for CivIII or CIV.

About the in game look, that's a great idea. Now that you have volunteer to spend hours adding hundreds of units to the game and make screenshots, we are waiting for you to actually do something.

Alternatively, go there http://stephane.f.david.free.fr/CivMod/america.htm to see some of them

Steph is right, anytime you find a unit in the Civ3 forums or Civ3 download database that should make it clear that the unit is for Civ3 not Civ4. As far as including more info everyone else on the forum seems to feel the need to write lengthy descriptions about units in the creators threads so why should a unit creator take time away from making new units by researching and writing about each unit he/she posts? In game screenshots, hmmmm why? Does it serve any real purpose to do so?

Hey no need to insult the guy, he's just providing feedback for you.

He was pretty much asking for it (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6066176&postcount=169) with the whole database confusion. I could have been a lot tougher but I chose not to. And that wasn't feedback, it was confusion. Since you seem to spend the majority of your time in the Civ4 section of the forum, I don't expect you to understand me:

I PRODUCE.

Most users are content to just consume. Every once in a while they ask for more. IOW they ask that I do more, plus x1000 for each one of my units.

I make the units. I make a LOT. I post them. I don't include sounds because you already have them. I include a large 'beaty' shot to show off detail. In the threads I make a game-sized preview. I also consolidate my units into large threads so you don't need to go looking for them individually.

I don't make a preview animation because it's really just a waste of my time. All my aircraft are pretty much the same. Everyone should have Flicster or Civ3mm to preview these things on their own. If you don't, it's not my problem. I don't include an in-game shot because that would just be a collosal waist of my time because I barely play the game.

If you don't know what a certain unit is... well Google (http://www.google.com)is your friend or JFWI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page).

If you think I'm trying to jump on you for this, I am not. This is how adults explain things logically and one who strongly believes in stoic essentials not lavish entitlements. If you still think I'm flaming you, well then now it's a personality problem on your end.

(Only checked out the "Dutch" version, but: ) Another sample of great renderings!:goodjob:

(Running the risk of bursting another one's bloodvessel: ) I still have to check out this thread to see what it's for - if I'm a noob. BTW, I think it's a pity you don't play - but then: where would all the planes come from?:mischief:

Just a suggestion to Phantom lovers:

If you want to use several of the F-4 for one civ, I would suppose to include the upgrades. For example, German F-4s were upgraded to the ICE (Improved Combat Efficiency) in the 80ies, Hellenic F-4s to the "Peace Icarus 2000" standard (PI 2000), Turkish ones to the "2020 Terminator" standard.

Anyone who can explain what are the different Luftwaffe phantoms?

Are they upgrades? Just different colour schemes?

Different colors, but poeple like variety.

The Grey one and the Green/grey one. Sorta obvious. The rest are for Air Shows.

Very nice additions! Btw, the correct designation for the F-4E in German service is the F-4F. Steph, I suggest you use the dark grey one as regular F-4F, the lighter one as the upgrade (F-4F ICE (http://www.f-4.nl/f4_18.html)).

I like some of those airshow color schemes very interesting. The Phantom really was a widely used and exported fighter with a long service life making it a great addition to many Civ air forces.

Tonite I was digging around my voluminous aircraft directories when I discovered I had 2 more Phantom textures. I thought I lost these 2 years ago. So I decided to use them because they could be applied to my high quality phantom model. You can see them between the old Isreali jet and the Japanese ones.

Thanks for posting "our" F-14, I love the animations. :)

@Gary: Just use the paradrop animation Wyrm made a while ago. I could post it if you don't have it.

Hello Ares,

could you post the paradrop animation for me? I will use it for all the wonderful transport machines, wyrm has made for us. Thank you...
