View Full Version : Civ IV: Beyond the Sword Info Center
ggganz Jul 31, 2007, 09:52 PM I just started playing BTS. And i noticed some interface changes. But i really miss the tile marker button (orange button to show a square to multiplayer buddies) that was on top of the world map in multiplayer matches. Is there a shortcut to use this function in BTS?
Press P.
Hey ! I have a big problem in Playing Civilization IV : Beyond the Sword ! and it made me a big problem !
I can't change my Civics ! and in the page of Civics i have just one button " Cancel " but in the previous version ( I mean Warlord ) we could change the civics, and we had two Buttons " Ok & Cancel " By The Way, the Cancel Button doesn't work ! we can't exit the Civics Page by pressing the Cancel Buton !
I downloaded the PAtch 3.02 but despite that, i have this problem ! can you please help me ? it's really important for me !! Thanks !
Someone had this problem and it was caused by bad sectors on the harddrive. Check it for bad sectors (don't know how to do that, sorry :().

Sharra Aug 01, 2007, 06:21 PM Hello, just wanted to ask, are they still updating the mods that came w/ beyond the sword? And if they do, how do we update them? thanks :)
ggganz Aug 01, 2007, 06:56 PM Mod updates are usually included in patches.
Zenon_pt Aug 02, 2007, 12:32 PM when does the game is release in Europe?

I don't know about Portugal, but in Germany it is in the stores for a couple of days now!

Zebra 9 Aug 02, 2007, 08:31 PM Just got BtS (Finally Wal-Mart got it, I had to call them twice!:wow:)! :bounce:
Cabay Jet Aug 02, 2007, 10:26 PM I got BtS in the mail from Amazon today! :woohoo: I've been playing it since this afternoon, I'm like what I'm seeing. Espionage is an excellent addition to the game. :goodjob:
ponposessed Aug 03, 2007, 11:29 AM jeje, five days, only 10 hours of sleep. "just one turn"
Dawgphood001 Aug 03, 2007, 04:10 PM How does the ocean trade-route feature work?
WingedPaladin Aug 03, 2007, 06:26 PM I pre-ordered BtS at Amazon.com in May. Last week, I found the game at Walmart and bought it. I finally got my package from Amazon.com yesterday and "returned" the unopened pre-ordered game to Walmart and bought something else. :p Everybody's happy. :D
Zebra 9 Aug 03, 2007, 07:15 PM As all McDonald cups say, "I'm Lovin' it!". I've only played Final Frontier (should be civ 5), but it's awsome.

Congrats on getting BtS! :D
I think it is great too. I am generally not one to argue over features, and why they should/shouldn't be there. Everything seems great to me at the moment. The espionage feature is super, corporations are good for income in the later ages too. Played the epic game yet? What do you think?
dutchking Aug 04, 2007, 09:11 PM My BtS update...
...I Don't have it yet.
Ouch! Couldn't you do Direct2drive? I've never used it, but If you've got a steady internet connection...who knows?
[EDIT]read above posts...
CONGRATS! My dog ripped up the box while I was at the movies tonight. He also destroyed a pair of glasses...can't leave anything on the end tables. And to believe he was the son of a champ...800$ because of the floopy ears...Whatever...don't let my dog get near your box.
hdezcanton Aug 04, 2007, 11:58 PM * Great Admirals that could be assigned to naval units.
* The ability to purchase mercenary military units, for a limited amount of turns, from another empire. This would help cash-rich less than militant nations when war is thrust on them.
* The ability to suggest motions/declarations/resolutions at the Apostolic Palace instead of just having them pop up.
* The return of embassies (from earlier CIV versions) which upon building one in a rival nation would open up a variety of diplomatic options. Nations who dont share embassies would have very limited diplomacy between one another. The closing down of embassies and severing diplomatic relations should be announced several turns (after reaching the "critical" number of negative diplomatic points) before an actual declaraton of war.
* The ability to create and dispatch diplomatic envoys into enemy territory during time of war to negotiate an end to hostilities (basically add positive diplomatic points towards the enemy nation). I imagine envoys shouldn't be killed since they "travel under flag of truce".
but my biggest gripe ....
When trading/bartering it seems all items have equal one-to-one value. One unit of silver equal to one unit of wheat? Doesnt make sense.
flamingzaroc121 Aug 05, 2007, 12:40 AM you can attach your great generals to a Ship thereby making a great admiral
Sideral Aug 05, 2007, 04:58 AM Pardon my asking, but is there some way to manually call up the Apolstolic Palace? All I'm getting is periodic votes to elect the leader, which I always win. Where are all my nifty resolutions?
The same problem here; not even ONE resolution pops-up. I have spread my religion to one other Civ (the other 2 remaining Civs have another religion and closed borders or Theocracy).
When will this forum get organised into sections? I can't find any answers to this question, there are hundreds of unrelated messages here...
Methos Aug 05, 2007, 11:49 PM Just a couple comments....
First off, for those of you who are wondering and missed my comment in another thread, I am currently working on the BTS Info Center for the main site. Hence my lack of updating this one. I apologize for that, but the main site seemed to have more priority than this one.
Secondly, since I'm also HOF Staff, I suggest you all check out Superslug's recent announcement (http://forums.civfanatics.com/announcement.php?f=259&a=480). For those of you who are curious, you can check out the HOF rules link in my sig and download the BTS HOF Mod v.3.02.001 (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php#bts_download) and give the BTS Beta-1 competition a try that is also linked in my sig.
Zebra 9 Aug 06, 2007, 10:07 AM I'm playing an Archaplago (Spelling?), Standard, 8 Players, as Montezuma (yes the Aztecs), advanced Medeval Start (very cool :cooool:). I started on an Island that could hold 3 cities. Because the first thing I placed was cities I knew what was on my island so I gave my self a Galley and Trireme and set one city up as a hammer city and another as a culture/settler city. So I ended up getting a quest where I needed 7 libraries when I only had 4 cities (I had settled a nearby island). So in order to finish this quest I built a city about 10 turns away on the south pole (wel just north so I could get horses) and 2 more cities on an island 21 turns away. I also founded Judaism with Theolegy (Christianity had already been founded:() and built the apostalic palace. Currently Zara is Jewish (thanks to my first caravel), and Haty. Zara is currently winning and is the strongest but I have about twice as many votes as Zara and Haty combined so I vote for what I want and get it.:D
Thus far BtS is totaly awsome and should have been civ5.

Great! Are you going to list all things changed (like those mentioned in BTS Screenshot Repository), or just main changes (new civs, scenarios etc.)?
hdezcanton Aug 06, 2007, 05:53 PM Is it normal for like 30 enemy units to unload from ONE enemy galley? Let me mention the enemy's territory is no where to be found on my continent and was able to make this hostile landing long before it possessed astronomy. This has to be a BUG right?
I wiped out their invasion force after some time and sued for peace, at great cost to my cultural and scientific progress having been forced to desperately convert most production to defense. By the time I reach gunpowder and circumnavigate the world (still no sight of them), they declare war again and a massive army of theirs marches out of my southern neighbor's territory. This is BS! I lost my capital and 2 cities. It just doesnt seem right that a backwards civilization can militarily outproduce (in ludicrous numbers) the most advanced nation on earth (well I was until the absurdities began) unless the software by some glitch makes it so.
Cabay Jet Aug 06, 2007, 08:02 PM * Great Admirals that could be assigned to naval units.
I think you can already do this. Just build a fortress by the coast, move the ship you want to join the GG with into the fort, move the GG into the fort with the ship and push the button. :p

30 Units from one Galley at one time? Are you sure?

Yes, it does! You actually have the choice of adding the GG to any military unit inside that city or fort.

That's quite funny - I never thought of that. I'll need to try it. Does the great general stand in the water when the ship is in battle then?
Cabay Jet Aug 07, 2007, 03:46 PM Huh, I never thought about it but he almost has to. He was never given an in water animation/graphic...

Interesting question. Didn't check though. It definitely works but I don't remember seeing anything queer like that. I guess you can only find out, which vessel the admiral is on, by clicking or at least touching it with the mouse coursor.
flamingzaroc121 Aug 08, 2007, 04:34 PM yeah the general doesnt walk on water unless its the GG of jesus ;)
Methos Aug 10, 2007, 11:01 PM Odd, it's being reported that both Steam and Direct2Drive have released the 3.03 patch, but nothing from Firaxis. Just curious, but has anyone who bought the box version been able to patch from in-game?

Wow that's good news.
I just checked my box version, and I still can't update though. :(
Is it already known what the 3.03 patch includes?
Jamesds Aug 11, 2007, 10:50 AM no, I can't patch from in game either. Either this patch will soon be released to us, or it is unique to those versions only.
ggganz Aug 11, 2007, 01:04 PM I bought it from Amazon, and I patched to 3.02 from in game.
Morfanos Aug 13, 2007, 03:16 PM I find it annoying that you CAN'T play Warlords scenario's even if you have the Warlords expansion already installed on your computer. To access them you need to specifically launch the Warlords expansion. This is somewhat stupid...
Now for those who seems to have problem downloading the in game update patch 3.03, I was able to to so when I decided to use the Warlords menu themes (was wondering if I would have access to the Warlords scenario's by doing this). I don't know if it's because the 3.03 issues was fixed when I did that or because I was not using the same "menu theme", but I was finally able to download the 3.03 patch.
Jamesds Aug 13, 2007, 03:49 PM Oh Yeah! 3.03 is out!! :D :D 83Mb though!
That was a conincidence it installed when you changed, Morfanos - I didn't need to change my menu ;).
EDIT: Doesn't seem much to be happy about...looked at the changelog in another thread. :crazyeye:

The known changes are:
Microsoft Fix for Manifest Requirements
DirectX 9.0c June Version Included
NikNaks Aug 14, 2007, 09:14 AM Is that all? Why didn't they wait a little and release it in a bigger patch? *sigh* Well at least it won't break any mods.
Zebra 9 Aug 14, 2007, 09:28 AM So any future patches should work with out this one right? I'm not looking forward to a big Down Load right know.

When they get around to fixing the major bugs, you'll have your modem glowing for three weeks, Navy Seal.

Thankfully, the changes to python code, core dlls, xml and graphics aren't as hefty as a new DX Engine. I remember being on dial-up, only about 10 months ago - I got a max of 10Mb / h . Now, on my rather slow broadband connection, I get 4Mb/min.

I had no problem. Just got the BTS from the Circuit City on line sale for $15 and then upgraded from in game/advanced to 3.03.
I am having some issues trying to play the 1936 scenario and a few bugs with Rhyse, but I'm trying to work them out.

choosersu Sep 01, 2007, 11:57 PM Something happened tonight that was prettty weird. Alright here is the situation. I was playing as Russia and was about 200 turns into the game. My best city had about 64 Hammer per turn. Then one of my brand new cities- which was a 2 on population jumped to 70 hammers for 3 turns. After that it crashed back to like 3. Also, sometimes when I talk to other civs I have purple, black, or just screwed up in the background of our conversation. I think I should also mention it produced 70 hammers, it didn't just say. Plus the game acts weird sometimes.
Oh and btw my version wasn't a backup or any other pirated version. I bought it at best buy, my computer is really nice (good graphics card, etc) and the disc has no scratches.
:king:
Jamesds Sep 03, 2007, 04:35 AM Well, if a couple of forests were chopped next to that city, then yes - you'd get an increase in production for that turn. As for your chats, try and find something in the bug reports forum - Firaxis are regularly checking the forum and fixing the bugs, and we are all waiting for the first big patch soon!
Welcome to the forums! :band: :D

Try pressing shift F5. That will quicksave. To load a quicksave, press Shift F8 in the game.

Zenon_pt Sep 06, 2007, 01:41 PM Curiosities.
I repaired in some aspects in the game, there are some issues we can perhaps call 'goodies quests'.
For example:
Judaism is the only one who isn't a favorite religion between civ's. And if a civ adopted it need to add to his territory the holly mountain quest.
When you are in Her. Rule, when a dynasty is over, you need to add a new line, you can add a Great Mil. or Great Merc. or Great ??? (can't remember).

drwulf88 Sep 11, 2007, 03:59 PM I hope this helps. It happens when the game loads up.
SuperSatan3 Sep 12, 2007, 03:38 PM Whats rubbish is that my old laptop can manage the game with a crappy mobile gforce graphics card... how i regret ever buying the new machine!
When you think about it, CIV4 isn't all that graphics intensive.
I also wish I could play Warlords with the Byzantines, without having to unintstall BTS.

I suppose you already tried this, but my guess is re-install. Does the Vanilla Civ4 still work?

I got this after I uninstalled Warlords, reinstall Warlords (if you had it), install BtS and then you can play

ggganz Sep 17, 2007, 09:59 PM Sweet, Media Center!
And if you install BtS with Warlords already installed, it will detect the Warlords leaders and such and not install them. So if you uninstall Warlords, you will have to reinstall BtS.
buck beach Sep 23, 2007, 07:01 AM I have been playing a marathon BTS (warlord level) and am up to April 1988. The game freezes up when ending the turn while awaiting the other Civilization to calculate their moves. I'm not sure what is happening unless I have reached some sort of capacity limit that will not let me go forward. I have reloaded several times and dropped back several turns and have replayed them, but when I get to the April 1988 turn, the game freezes once more.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Michael Alan Sep 27, 2007, 02:53 PM Is there any way to install BTS without letting the disc upgrade Civ 4 to v1.74? Because it wont install the v1.74 upgrade fully and messes up Civ 4. Error 1706 message pops up and says it cant finish. It changed Civ 4 half way and then it keeps rolling on with BTS install. Civ 4 cant be uninstalled after that.
Michael Alan Sep 27, 2007, 03:21 PM Found this about directx_jun2007_redist.exe :
Any folder you want... For example, you could make a new folder and extract the files there. Then you open that folder and run DXSETUP.exe in there.
__________________
I didnt know about DXSETUP.EXE and someone else said that the EXE file appears in the folder you send the files to. I never tried this.
(Wonder if the August DirectX9c would be best?)
Gonna try it now>>>>>>>
Michael Alan Sep 28, 2007, 11:24 AM Any advice from anyone on this would be nice:
To help install the Civ 4 v1.74 patch I ran the June DirectX package as one poster suggested above (although an August version is out), I cant do the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer because I don't have the internet on my game PC but that way was used by others with success which makes me think it is still a DirectX issue (could be wrong). This time I did the DirectX properly by going into the folder afterwards and executing the DXSETUP.exe file
Then I restarted the PC, made a restore point and installed Civ 4 and then restarted again, set another restore point, restart, and ran the v1.74 Civ 4 the patch. This time it went better but not perfect.
The patch progess bar went 99% of the way across and then Error 1706 popped up again and said it could not do the job, it had an OK button so I clicked it, then it continued for a second and the familiar colored Civ 4 install screen came up and said update was complete and gave me a "finished" button. The program runs, and it thinks it is upadted.
Wondering if I should uninstall or maybe revert to that restore point I made, then run the August version of DirectX and do the whole thing over.
Or maybe just say forget it, it's good enough. Not sure if in the future during game play I may have issues and by then I'll forget I had this Error 1706 pop up to begin with.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Im on HP Pavilion, Athlon 64 X2 (W) 3800+ 2.0 GHz, Microsoft Windows XP with SP2 , GeForce 6150 LE , Realtek ALC 888 chipset,

Atreus Oct 02, 2007, 07:42 AM I have tried Beyond the sword several times now an i am a bit dissapointed.
Ther are some good features like the nem techtree but 3 things are not quite good enough yet:
Spy:
Well seems ok, I dont use it, but the enemy does. Maybe I will, though it seems expensive and I would rather spend the money directly on research to get ahead.
Corporations:
What is the point? You need a great person, resources, technology and what do you get: fx food + more expenses. I build it once, and I will never do it again. Plus I have to spend resources to make corporate executives. Too much trouble for nothing. I would rather like it simple as a modern religion: Only benefits in form of extra cash. Hello! It is capitalism = positive productive or monetary effect.
Colonies and freeing them:
Nice idea, but the reality sucks. I have just conquered my 2 close neighbours who live on an island. The colony-cost are extreme. When I tried to free a single city, I had to free them all. And what is the result? I get a new vassal. I now have to trade to get my ‘own’ resources. And the extra ressorces I traded before to other nations are out of reach. What is the point of making war in this game anymore – the expenses are extreme and out of proportion!! And courthouses doesn’t help on colony-cost. And state property doesn’t help either…
I propose some new buildings that reduce colony-cost and a ‘Commenwealth Wonder’ and a ‘Colony Senate Wonder’ The wonders could be one pr nation and one for all nations. The effect could be reduced costs, voting for war on other nations. And if I really would set my colonies free, I should get a huge bonus for liberation = bonus culture because I am such a good person and bonus gold. The game so far just uses the ‘whip’. I would like some ‘carrot’.
Techtree:
Better than before.

Yes, but I'm unsure to the legality of it. If its for your own use, I believe its okay. I know I have the Baba Yetu on my Itunes. Simply go into your C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Sounds\Soundtrack folder and you can find the music there. I can't recall how I moved it to Itunes, but it wasn't difficult at all.
dalamb Oct 05, 2007, 12:07 AM Corporations:
What is the point? IIRC some corporations give you access to resources you might not otherwise have (or be able to trade for). Is there one for Aluminum?

when will the BtS Info Center updated? 8th July as the last update is a bit old, right?
and when avatars include BtS avatars?
Vittra Oct 07, 2007, 06:58 PM Is there some way to check the status of your current quests?
The Navy Seal Oct 08, 2007, 10:08 AM I think you can check by going to the left top corner and clicking on the log button, then it will give a pop up window and on the top of it click on the button that says quests I'm pretty sure thats what you want.

Zenon_pt Oct 18, 2007, 01:48 PM Question:
It's possible to end a vassal stade condition??? If so, how?
DarkAmen Oct 19, 2007, 07:43 AM What are the conditions for making colonies? I know you need 2 cities on the Island; are there any other factors that you need to consider?
Also (not just bts) is there a way of finding out how my turns of whipped unhappiness are left; without resorting to pen and paper.

No idea about your first question since I don't own BTS:cry:    . But for your second question, i think you just wait it out. The only time I worry about it is when I do it too much to keep building units.;) ;) But Idk about Bts;)
Question:
It's possible to end a vassal stade condition??? If so, how? If you're the vassal and it's not capitulation, I'm pretty sure that you can just cancel it. If you're not the vassal but the master, you can't. Neither voluntary nor capitulation masters can cancel the vassalage. which is pretty sad

First of all:
Welcome to the forums!!! [party]
You surely exaggerate in the :(!
No i can't help you, i don't have those problems
Try to uninstall and install Civ4 and BtS and only then install the patch... should help! (i hope so!)
DoubleRD77 Oct 21, 2007, 02:14 PM It did'nt work! I uninstalled them both, then reinstalled them. The music works fine BEFORE I install this so called patch. Once the patch is installed the music and sounds do not work for the scenarios. ITS NOT FAIR! Perhaps the game designers did this to imitate shell shock, and that the gamer can not hear music or sounds because of the explosions going on that would make someone deaf, and they feel no sound and music will add to the game play. But I think that they should have kept the music and sound effects, without them, I don't even want the patch. Its just not fair :(

WHAT ?!?!?
How's that possible? Did you totally remove the Civ files (delete Firaxis files and My Games' Civ directories) even after uninstallation?
Maybe is something wrong with your computer or your Civ / your Civ is pirated / you are using Mac OS or other incompatible system other than Windows (i don't know if Linux works) / Do you have the minimal requisites ?
If everything is right, then I just don't know
Why don't you just play without the patch?

Try Bhuric's Unofficial patch*.. the official patch seemed to add about as many bugs as it removed, but some of those have been cleared up with Bhuric's patch.. just check on this forum.. and I apologize for the way some have treated your request.

I'm no tech! But: 3 questions?
1st - Does the option on the audio options is on?
2nd - What patch did you add?
3rd - Did you report on bug report or send a email to firaxis?
If you don't like the patch, don't installed! I had a near experience with Civ3 Play the world! I'd never could played it on me CPU! And was very  !!!

DoubleRD77 Oct 24, 2007, 03:41 PM I want the sound and explosions. If there are no explosions how can I possibly win? I need sound to help my stategy! BTW in what scenario you play? I will try to see in my PC if the same happens!
DoubleRD77 Oct 25, 2007, 05:09 PM I play the european ww2 in 1939. I WANT TO CONQUER THE WORLD! Too bad they don't allow you to build warriors there. Try sending an email to Firaxis (don't rant though, just tell them your problem in a matter-of-factly tone) and maybe post this in the bug report section of this forum (Civilization IV --> General Discussion --> Bug Reports. Again, don't rant).
In the meantime get out your mp3 or something and listen to music while you play. Music > Explosions
BigStick Oct 27, 2007, 06:06 PM I have a quick question for you all. I've been away for the game for some time due to RL issues and now can no longer locate the game CD for either of my copies of Civ IV. If I buy the expansions, will I be able to play using the game CD from them or do I still need the original Game CD? The game is still installed, I just can't play it now.
Thanks!

llynxx Nov 02, 2007, 09:38 PM I'm having a problem while trying to install Bts. I start disc 1 sign the agreement for terms and conditions, then it goes into updating direct x then starts the installation. When it ask for Disc 2 a box pops up showing a path for setup. When the second disc starts setup a screen pops up showing data cab3 folder. I don't know why this is coming up and the setup will continue but when you remove the disc 2 there's no evidence of the game being installed on my computer. Why is the cab3 file not installi its info on the computer. what do I have to do?
Methos Nov 02, 2007, 09:48 PM My computer does the same thing. The second window is an "explore" window and is showing its contents. Basically, it's just showing the data that is stored there. Fool! You have revealed your location: putting "somewhere" under location in your profile is no longer relevant!:nya: mwahahahahahahahaha!
KMadCandy Nov 02, 2007, 10:57 PM You won't be able to play the other versions without the disks, but with bts, why would you want to!?! :D
because HoF has non-BtS gauntlets :p
JohnYoga Nov 06, 2007, 05:42 PM Hello Folks,
If one has vCiv4 + Warlords, does Beyond the Sword expansion allow you also to take advantage of all the goodies from vCiv4 AND Warlords?
Thanks for your comments. :)
John

Cyberviking Nov 08, 2007, 06:20 AM Tremendous!
The units look different for
the different civs! I can't believe it!
:) :) :) :goodjob: :D :D:p
bloh Nov 08, 2007, 11:04 AM Since BTS has what Civ4 and Warlords already have. Can one uninstall Orginal Civ4 and/or warlords and install BTS and play that?
Methos Nov 08, 2007, 11:30 AM Can one uninstall Orginal Civ4 and/or warlords and install BTS and play that?
Warlords, yes. Vanilla, no. BTS requires vanilla and won't work without it.
Civfan333 Nov 08, 2007, 11:35 AM I can't wait to get it!:D :D
Just five more dollar's and then I have enough!:D :crazyeye:
Yeah, they do have different looks for different Civs.
I can't wait to get it.
JosEPh_II Nov 10, 2007, 12:49 PM There is a Warlords folder included in the BtS expansion.
BUT why is there no Warlords Play menu included in BtS?
And if there is how do you access it?
Thanks
JosEPh
ggganz Nov 12, 2007, 11:51 AM Because why would you play just the Warlords stuff without the BtS stuff??
And if you want the Warlords scenarios/mods, you need to buy Warlords.
Halidon55 Nov 15, 2007, 06:07 AM Can anyone tell me if the world wonders of Warlord are in BTS? Like the Great Wall. I noticed that BTS has great leaders, but what about the other "good bits" of Warlord. Can't wait for winter break to buy it and play the crap out of it after reading this thread.

Yes, yes, they are all in Beyond the Sword - essentially all that BtS does not include from Warlords is the scenarios. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! :)
Civfan333 Nov 15, 2007, 03:38 PM The only thing that's in Warlords that's not in BTS is the scenarios;)
Alzibiades Nov 17, 2007, 07:02 PM All, I need help. I was out of the country and just bought BTS. I have had headaches trying to load it. I finally got everything updated with warlords and original and all the patches for microsoft windows. I appreciate the info on this forum for that cause that was driving me mad. Now I cant get past the initializing phython. I get a fatal error during this portion of the loading. Help!!!! Standing by for all help cause I really want to play this game.

If I remember correctly, I received this error when I uninstalled Warlords after installing BtS.
So possible solution: Try uninstalling, and then reinstalling Beyond the Sword. If this doesn't work, there's some very helpful people here whom I'm sure will give you further advice.
hahntsak Nov 19, 2007, 10:41 AM just wondering on a random event quest. the holy mountain thing - where is it? does it have to be in an opponent's territory?
Grey Fox Nov 19, 2007, 10:47 AM just wondering on a random event quest. the holy mountain thing - where is it? does it have to be in an opponent's territory?
When you get the quest, it should be in neutral territory. If an opponent gets the mountain within their territory first I think you fail the quest.
JFLNYC Nov 19, 2007, 11:49 AM When you get the quest, it should be in neutral territory. If an opponent gets the mountain within their territory first I think you fail the quest.
I've had it already in an opponent's territory when the quest began. Grrr...
Vital1 Nov 25, 2007, 08:22 AM Hi to all.
Hope I"ve chosen right place to ask.
1. Number of units in CIV4 BTS: is it limited like in civ3 or you can have as many as you and other civs can maintain?
2. Is gameplay endless(like in civ3) and you can make infinite amount of
turns?
Thanks.
flamingzaroc121 Nov 25, 2007, 12:07 PM 1 yes you can have as many units as your budget allows because if you have too many they get disbanded
2 yes if you turn off Time victory (in Custom Game) the game will only end when another victory condition is reached. I have not tried turning off all victory conditions
Vital1 Nov 25, 2007, 12:56 PM Thanks.
Concerning #2: you mean after the game says: game is over, you won(or lost) blah blah... there is no "let me make some more turns" option like in CIV3?
flamingzaroc121 Nov 25, 2007, 02:25 PM oh actually there is it says "just on more Turn" i completely forgot till i played today
Vital1 Nov 25, 2007, 03:19 PM Thanks, gonna buy it soon
mrg1808 Dec 01, 2007, 09:41 AM Hi, everybody. I´ve just purchased BtS. Have not installed it yet because I wanted to checkout the Patch/Upgrade reports. I´m confused about what to use. Vers. 3.13, the unofficial 3.13 or both ? Other option ?
Kitt Dec 01, 2007, 10:26 AM yeah, but the "one more turn" thing, lets u take an infinite number
im actually running an older version of BTS, and im having a few problems
get the latest official patch
ggganz Dec 01, 2007, 03:56 PM Hi, everybody. I´ve just purchased BtS. Have not installed it yet because I wanted to checkout the Patch/Upgrade reports. I´m confused about what to use. Vers. 3.13, the unofficial 3.13 or both ? Other option ?
Get both. And that's all.
I mean, there really is nothing else to get. 3.13 is the latest official patch, and the Bhruic's unofficial patch required 3.13 to be installed. There really are no other bug fixes available.
Vital1 Dec 02, 2007, 06:15 AM Hi again.
I finally bought BTS.
And I have some questions about editing.
Is it possible to edit it like it was in CIV3?
I mean editing difficulty levels features(AI maintenance bonus etc.), creating custom very huge maps automatically by choosing size like in civ3(not manually like here in worldbuilder), changing distance between civs?
How to make custom maps?
Is there some kind of "civ4edit" tool, like it was in civ3, that enables you to change many things easily? Or do I have to mod it changing .xml manually(if so, could somebody point me some good thread about it, please, I will also do a search)?
And is there a number of cities exceeding which corruption dramatically increases?
Thanks in advance.
mrg1808 Dec 02, 2007, 06:26 PM Get both. And that's all.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it...:)
ggganz Dec 02, 2007, 07:00 PM Nope, there is no Civ4Edit. There really should be. You need to mod the XML manually, and about the maps, you can just generate a map like you were going to play the game, then save it as a World Builder file in the WB.
mrg1808 Dec 03, 2007, 06:16 AM Get both. And that's all.

One more question. I´ve downloaded v1.11, Oct 05, 2007 of the Bhruic patch. Is this the latest ? Thanks :)
ggganz Dec 03, 2007, 10:18 PM Ya! Also there is a thread about it stickied in the BtS section.
Necromaster Dec 05, 2007, 06:34 PM Hi!
I have a question, Does Bts come in mac?
No one will tell me on every other forum I looked on! :wallbash:
Please tell me!
Methos Dec 05, 2007, 08:59 PM Hi!
I have a question, Does Bts come in mac?
No, but if you check our Civ4 Mac forums you can find out how to setup your mac to be able to run a windows version of bts.
JFLNYC Dec 05, 2007, 10:41 PM No, but if you check our Civ4 Mac forums you can find out how to setup your mac to be able to run a windows version of bts.
Or, since you're already a Mac user (and Mac users are smart!), you probably already know about Boot Camp. I'm pretty sure that it won't run in Parallels or VM Ware, though.
Methos Dec 05, 2007, 10:53 PM I'm pretty sure that it won't run in Parallels or VM Ware, though.
It does run in Parallels. I suggest reading AlanH's thread regarding it.
JFLNYC Dec 06, 2007, 12:28 AM It does run in Parallels. I suggest reading AlanH's thread regarding it.
Not exactly. Here's what AlanH said:
There have been a few reports that Civ4 runs OK in Parallels, but others have said it is not playable. I haven't tried it.
Considering that Parallels does not support DirectX 9, running BtS in Parallels must be a nightmare, if you can get it to work at all. And, of course, if your Mac is a PowerPC you're totally out of luck. I suggest we not make blanket statements such as "it runs in Parallels" since it may cause them to spend $79.99 for Parallels to run BtS only to find it runs poorly, if at all.
Methos Dec 06, 2007, 04:39 PM Just curious, but are you talking about this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=249791) by AlanH regarding Virtual Machines? He did a test using Parallels.
JFLNYC Dec 06, 2007, 05:47 PM I stand corrected. I did not see AlanH's test and it seems he got BtS to work in Parallels (although I suspect the graphic problems he refers to are Directx-related). I probably won't do it because of the graphics limitations of my MacBook Pro (Warlords for Mac was very sluggish on the MB Pro), but if I had a Mac Pro, I'd be willing to give it a whirl. That's very encouraging news. Thanks for the tip!
Methos Dec 23, 2007, 10:24 PM Did I mention that the BTS Info Center (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/bts/) is up?
Civfan333 Dec 24, 2007, 12:18 AM Yay! It's finally up!:D
In time for Christmas!
jkp1187 Dec 24, 2007, 07:21 AM A couple notes...
1.) Tactical Nukes is spelled "Tactile"...
2.) Would be nice to have the actual unit strengths listed -- for instance, in addition to the bonuses listed, Dog Soldiers have -1 strength versus regular Axemen, but this isn't listed in the chart.
Otherwise looks nice!
snipperrabbit!! Dec 24, 2007, 08:07 AM Methos : Can you, please, put the building cost to the new buildings. I don't mind for UB at all but it's really missing for regular buildings.
ggganz Dec 24, 2007, 10:56 AM When will we get one that INCLUDES all the stuff from 'nilla and WL?
Methos Dec 24, 2007, 11:14 AM When will we get one that INCLUDES all the stuff from 'nilla and WL?
It's in progress, but looks like the BTS Info Center needs a few fixes first.
ggganz Dec 24, 2007, 12:51 PM Yeah, I still can't believe you neglected to put the :strength: of all the units. :crazyeye:
Erik_3E Dec 29, 2007, 01:53 PM I am intrested in playing an multiplayer game and I was woundering what is a PitBoss Game?
ggganz Dec 29, 2007, 11:18 PM Okay, this is just about the worst place to ask that but I'll answer it anyway. A PitBoss game is a game created using the PitBoss.exe file in the Beyond the Sword subfolder of the main Sid Meier's Civilization 4 folder. It differs from a normal game because when you leave, your place isn't taken by an AI. The game cannot progress until you have logged back in and taken your turn. It also causes the turn timer to be measured in hours, not seconds. Most people use PitBoss games with Direct IP connection rather than using the GameSpy Lobby. The only problem with PitBoss is that the computer that started the server needs to stay on, and the PitBoss dialog box needs to stay open. This, in my opinion, defeats the purpose.
Cam_H Jan 01, 2008, 09:49 PM Regarding the revised site; Mining Inc. requires Railroad, not Mass Media.
I agree with ggganz's point on the :strength: of the units. It's probably worth noting that the Sumerian UB is available with Priesthood.
A revised technology tree in the same manner as the vanilla one (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/techtree/) would be good too imho.
Thanks Methos and Ori for your efforts! :goodjob:
Vital1 Jan 02, 2008, 03:51 AM Hi.
I've got an inflation question.
In 3.13 readme it's written that "Inflation no longer increases after the game time limit has been reached".
It's now turn 519 but inflation increased by about 15% since turn 500 and not stopping.
There was a diplomatic victory in turn 480 I guess.
And I disabled time victory(I guess I didn't have to).
Any way to stop it in the current game?
(except setting inflation to zero in handicapinfo).
And in general, when will it stop?
ggganz Jan 02, 2008, 03:46 PM I think that by disabling Time Victory, you also disable the game time limit, and so inflation keeps going. What it means is if you go to turn 500 with Time Victory on, it won't continue after that (if you press One More Turn).
MarkM Jan 03, 2008, 04:48 PM I apologize if this has already been posted, but just got around to looking at this now.
Is the corporation table correct? I might be misreading it, but (for example) it seems to imply that Sid's Sushi's only effect is to create +2 culture per resource, it does not produce any extra food? If I didn't know better I might believe that, looking at it. At a minimum, this table is misleading ...
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/bts/#corporations
ggganz Jan 03, 2008, 04:52 PM Yes, you are misreading it... by trusting it. It's' wrong. It should be +2 culture and +0.5 food per resource consumed.
Methos Jan 03, 2008, 04:55 PM Yes, the tables need to be fixed, but RL is keeping me very busy and my father has been in the hospital this whole week, so this has not been very high on my priority list. I'll do my best to get it fixed this weekend, but RL needs my attention more. Thanks!
MarkM Jan 04, 2008, 02:50 PM OK. no problem Methos, and no hurry for my part just wanted to help out in a small way by bringing to your attention.
I hope your father recovers swiftly
SexyDude76 Jan 05, 2008, 04:19 PM In the Espionage screen, although I have 75 EPs accumulated for a civ, and one visible city listed, I cannot execute passive missions costing 50 (see demographics)... What am I missing here? I have Writing.
Thanks
ggganz Jan 05, 2008, 07:09 PM Please don't ask questions in two places. And what do you mean my "see demographics"? We can't see anything!
Vital1 Jan 08, 2008, 09:36 AM I've got question about unit cost percent.
In CIV4HandicapInfo:
Noble level as example:
<iUnitCostPercent>50</iUnitCostPercent>
...
<iAIUnitCostPercent>100</iAIUnitCostPercent>
Does this mean that AI pay twice more?
It doesn't, I guess, does it?
Vital1 Jan 10, 2008, 08:26 AM Anybody????
snipperrabbit!! Jan 10, 2008, 02:39 PM well, you deleted context and I can't give you a quick answer without. I need to open the file and search which is boring as you pasted code but not sufficiently to help you without effort. Or someone knows it from memory.
SexyDude76 Jan 30, 2008, 06:06 AM Some questions:
In Civ 3 only the marines could attack from the sea. In IV how does attack from the sea works?
If one civ has Astronomy, and other has not, can they trade through ocean?
When a city is bombarded and loses its defense bonus, how and when does it recover that bonus again?
War wariness affects only the one who declares war, or both?
Does the number of units defending a city influence the city defense bonus? For example, if I attack a city with no bonus defense, full of swordsman, with a swordsman, the probability is sometimes about 1%, when is should be 50%.
ggganz Jan 30, 2008, 09:56 PM Some answers:
All units without the Amphibious promotion (Marines start with it) get a HUGE combat penalty when attacking from the sea or over a river.
I think only one civ needs Astronomy.
Over time, but I don't know how fast.
War weariness affects both, especially the attacker.
No.
Supr49er Mar 18, 2008, 04:05 PM Anybody????
Great, now I got that teacher from Ferris Bueller in my head.
Pikkis Mar 19, 2008, 10:50 AM Does the number of units defending a city influence the city defense bonus? For example, if I attack a city with no bonus defense, full of swordsman, with a swordsman, the probability is sometimes about 1%, when is should be 50%.
As ggganz already said, number of units doesn't have an impact to the city defense bonus. Also, most of the time you shouldn't be expecting 50-50 chances in a Swordsman versus Swordsman fight, because defender gets fortify bonus, it may have promotions (in Swordsman case, Combats would increase its defense strength), you may be attacking over a river, etc.
Milly Mar 25, 2008, 03:48 AM Some questions:
In Civ 3 only the marines could attack from the sea. In IV how does attack from the sea works?
The defenders get a 50% increase in defense when someone attacks from the sea. A unit, like the Marine, with the Amphibious promotion does not suffer that penalty.
When a city is bombarded and loses its defense bonus, how and when does it recover that bonus again?
The city needs two turns of not being bombarded in order to recover its bonus. So it goes from:
Turn 1) Bombardment
Turn 2) Nothing
Turn 3) City recovers a part of its bonus
War wariness affects only the one who declares war, or both?
War weariness affects all parties in a war. If one fights on one's own soil, one gets no war weariness. If one fights on another's soil, one gets war weariness.
Does the number of units defending a city influence the city defense bonus? For example, if I attack a city with no bonus defense, full of swordsman, with a swordsman, the probability is sometimes about 1%, when is should be 50%.
No. As mentioned before, the units may be fortified or have certain promotions. If you look at the fight survival odds chart on the lowerleft, you can see all the factors that influence attack and defense.
These include: the innate 25% bonus from it being a city (separate from cultural defense), another 25% if the city is on a hill, another 25% if you're fighting across a river without Amphibious, etc.
mindseye1220 Apr 30, 2008, 08:48 AM Wait, so it comes with warlords, too? Awesome!
hahntsak Apr 30, 2008, 09:58 AM it comes with game mechanics of warlords like vassals and stuff but not the specific warlords scenarios. you can copy those into the BTS mods area. soon perhaps they will come out with a Civ 4 complete with everything and both warlords and BTS mods, but not yet as of april 30, 2008. the gold edition includes vanilla Civ 4 and warlords.
so as it stands now if you want to play the in game mod rise of rome of warlords, you unfortunately can't use the new rules from BTW unless you play it in BTS as a 'user' mod [ only after you physically copy the mods ].
GooglyBoogly Aug 25, 2008, 05:18 AM The article as listed on the Civfanatics site and this thread contains no information in regards to the changes in civics from vanilla or warlords. There isn't a link anywhere that you can read about them either.
If listing the changes is too much, I suggest adding a link to:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/info/civics which lists the civics as of 3.13
somewhere within the article
