View Full Version : Nukes
kkapalk May 16, 2007, 08:19 AM I was just wondering if there is any way to have no nuclear weapons in a game? I am fed up of having wars and the enemy seeming to land at least 50% of their nukes on my cities, while I virtually never hit theirs (mine are always shot down!). But the bigger gripe is the ridiculous amount of global warming that occurs as a result. I realise this is realistic and would happen, but it takes a lot of fun out of my game seeing my land reduced to barren desert, usually at the rate of two or three squares a turn. I presume this goes on until the end of the game. I would much prefer to have no ICBM's at all. Would I have to install a mod?
Thanks,
Kev.
Grimus May 16, 2007, 09:15 AM Wow, I never get into nuke fights unless I start them... and even then, I'm usually the only tyrant firing them off. I wish I could get into the situation with the AI's. What difficulty are you playing on? I'm usually on Prince, but it's getting boring since I started warmongering and now I'm dominating... think I'll move up a notch.
I'm at work right now so off the top of my head...
1. There may be a "no nukes" option during custom game creation... though I could be wrong, I forget.
2. Build the United Nations as soon as possible, get the votes for yourself, and start a "no nukes" agreement across the globe. Usually, the majority of civs always agree.
3. Annihilate the trouble makers in the world before they can acquire their toys.
rabidveggie May 16, 2007, 09:27 AM 1. Don't build Manhattan project since the computer is lazy and won't make it for a very long time.
2. UN as already mentioned and sign the nonproliferation treaty.
3. Build SDI and hope for the best
I don't believe there is any option to turn off nukes although I to want one built in.
The Navy Seal May 16, 2007, 09:40 AM Well you could comment the Manhatten project out of the Xml.
kkapalk May 16, 2007, 11:53 AM Grimus, I play at Noble level. Every time I get into a war the enemy instantly fires nukes, but maybe it is because I start the wars. Possibly they would not use them if they had started the war, I don't know.
Italian Celtic May 16, 2007, 02:01 PM The ideal is that you have nukes while others civ no
does this option exist?
Vizzini May 16, 2007, 05:42 PM First, the turn I see Manhatten project built I set my highest production city to building SDI, and ALL cities immediately switch to Bomb Shelters. I don't care what your situation is you cannot ignore that message that someone was dumb enough to build the Project.
Two ways to prevent it: Build the UN and vote non-proliferation asap, which stops both the construction and use of nukes.
Monopolize Uranium. Bomb the snot out of their uranium mines. Use a spy to sabotage them, invade and take them... whatever it takes.
Best suggestion: If someone has nukes - stay on their good side. :p
Slobadog May 16, 2007, 05:50 PM You could also remove global warming by editing the XML. Or and you could edit the XML in such a way that SDI has a 100% chance of stopping nukes.
Moon Pine May 17, 2007, 03:24 AM Build enough Bomb Shelter and SDI system before you invade a civ with Nukes.
In fact, if it was me, I wound nuke your invading force and then get them with my helis or tanks^^

Scuse me but how i can edit XML files as you have said?
dylnuge May 17, 2007, 07:19 AM You would look up how to mod. Also, "you have nukes but other civs don't". Yes, there is a way, but it is cheating. Anything that gives you an advantage that other civs cannot possibly get is cheating*, that includes modding the XML files. Not to mention, what is the fun in having the ultimate hand. Mind as well give yourself modern armour using the map editor while everyone else has spears. Though in CivIII, you might still lose. :)
*Actually, in America, the EU, and China, it is called politics.
