View Full Version : More Religions in BtS?
TheLastOne36 May 22, 2007, 12:28 PM Do you think there will be more religions in BtS?
I think they should add more. I don't know which religion they should add though.
Also if they add a civil war feature in BtS then my idea is that one of main causes of a civil war could be, different parts of a civ have different religions, or if you Christian for example then at some point in the game, Christianity breaks up into roman catholic, orthodoxy and protestantism (possibly more) and if one part of the religion wants to be protestant and another one wants to be roman catholic then a civil war starts.
It could bring the religion in the game onto a whole new level. What do you think?
Also i posted a similar thread in the warlords forum. It's not getting as much attention as it would here so if you want to close/delete one close/delete the one in warlords.
Joe Harker May 22, 2007, 01:16 PM Instead of civil war being caused by the spilting up of religions, which could become compicated you have civil wars caused by having different religions within your empire. Also they proberly won't had any more religions, sevens enough i think
oranges4ever May 23, 2007, 05:39 AM In the Civ IV manual it says "There are seven religions in Civilization IV (testing having determined that seven is the optimal number for gameplay)."
In the same way that a standard size map has seven(?) civilizations on it (even if there are eventually thirty to choose from in expansion packs), I don't think Firaxis will change the number of religions for Civ IV.
You want some variety, but you don't want so many religions that each civ can get its own one. The idea was to get some civs with the same religion as you, some different, so diplomacy etc is impacted.
My 2 cents.
By the way, you can mod the number of religions but it's difficult to get extra icons to appear for them as I understand it.
GoodGame May 25, 2007, 06:16 PM There's 'flavor' room for more religions but what oranges is saying makes sense.
If any more are added it should take much difficulty to get them.
Traitorfish May 26, 2007, 04:53 PM Besides, there's already been discussions on this and nobody can think of a good idea for a new religion. The leading suggestion is Zoroastrianism, due to it's historical importance, but it's current status is too minor for it to be reasonably compared to the other civs. The only other religions of real importance are too localised, like Shinto or Sikhism- the religions in Civ tend to be "world religions", i.e. cutting across ethnic and linguistic boundaries. The only exceptions are Taoism and Confucianism, due to the fact that Han Chinese have always made up the majority of their followers, but that is a much larger region and population than applies to Shinto or Sikhism. (Besides, Shinto is usually practiced alongside Buddhism, so it's sort of already been covered.
GoodGame May 27, 2007, 10:57 AM There are actually a good number of religions that could be added. Check out the Rhye's RFC mod for some of the heated discussions.
Since there is an alternative history aspect to Civ, there's no reason to exclude religions that aren't in the top 6 historically, but as stated, they won't adding more due to game play dynamics.
Phoenix1595 May 27, 2007, 01:48 PM While I would love to see more religions for history's sake, I don't think they would contribute to the game mechanics much. It seems that in most games, not all of the existing religions get much play anyway, as the AI sticks to the top 2 or three (usually Hinduism and Buddhism). I don't think that would change much with the inclusion of more religions, unless changes where made to the religion concept in general.
