View Full Version : Exploding LCD's
PlutonianEmpire May 23, 2007, 11:04 PM I recently shattered the lcd screen on my laptop in a fit of rage after losing a game of morrowind. the surface is intact, but inside, you can see the hallmarks of shattered glass when you turn it on. My mother says that the shattering unleashes all the chemicals inside, causing them to mix, and turn the laptop into a ticking bomb. Is there any truth to that?
Bartleby May 24, 2007, 06:39 AM I would think the biggest danger is that you might lose another game...
Turner May 24, 2007, 11:57 AM Maybe, but doubtful.
I have an older laptop I got from my dad, maybe about 2002. It was old then, had Win98 on it. Somehow the LCD was broken. I still have it, and occasionally power it up. Hasn't blown up yet.
Now, like I said I use it only rarely. So maybe extended use could do something.
thetrooper May 24, 2007, 01:34 PM Sounds unlikely to me.
Such considerations are surely done by the companies before they release their products...
Otherwise, l-a-w-s-u-i-t!
taper May 24, 2007, 06:14 PM Broken LCDs are a relatively common problem with laptops, and if they were prone to explode, you would have heard something about it, like the batteries. Electric shock might be a concern, but I don't know of anything in there that could explode.
PlutonianEmpire May 24, 2007, 06:51 PM excellent. thanks. :)
now to convince my Taurus of a mother that she was wrong....
