View Full Version : Two simple(?) questions
ModernKnight May 23, 2007, 11:58 PM I know that from older Civ games this was possible, and could've sworn it's possible in this game... anyway...
1) How do you find a city if you only know its name? Not using Alt-Tab or F1.
2) Isn't there a way to see a city "close up", including all its buildings?
I probably should break out the manual. Thanks if you can help - MK
Mutineer May 24, 2007, 12:35 AM 1) do not know, do not think it is posible.
2) just zoom on main map. You can see all building in city.
ModernKnight May 24, 2007, 01:38 AM Mutineer, maybe I'm confusing all the strat games I've played, but I don't think so...
1) Could've sworn there's an alpha lookup. Accessed by hitting maybe ^Z or ^? in past games.
2) Zooming in on the main map does not dump me into a "glorious" 3D close-up look at my city. I'm sure this existed in Civ2.
Am I growing old and senile?

civ 4 isn't civ 2 or civ 3, so I guess you're confusing
1) Could've sworn there's an alpha lookup. Accessed by hitting maybe ^Z or ^? in past games.
yep, in past games, not this one.
Here (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/reference/shortcuts.php)is a link to a reference for all shortcuts.
2) Zooming in on the main map does not dump me into a "glorious" 3D close-up look at my city. I'm sure this existed in Civ2.
yep, but this is civ 4 with 3D graphics on the main map = "no need" (arguable) for another 3D view.
Am I growing old and senile?
 ask your wife.
ModernKnight May 24, 2007, 10:32 PM hehe, ok, thanks folks...
I coulda sworn I stumbled across the close-up look. But I guess not.
No need to ask the wife. She'll tell me I'm mistaken. Regardless. lol
Dan Quale May 26, 2007, 06:35 PM As for the close up view, I believe civ 2, and my old 486 got lagged by that lol.
As far as finding your city by name, click the "house" button in your upper right screen.
ModernKnight May 26, 2007, 09:38 PM Dan the man! Is the future better tomorrow?
As for F1, it doesn't show you others' cities.
Question 3 if I could -
Is the Spaceship tab under under Victory Conditions (F8) supposed to convey any information on overall progress on the Spaceship? If it is, I'm not seeing it. It just seems like a static blueprint (which may as well be just something in Civilopedia). Am I missing anything?
Thanks folks! Greatly appreciated.

no, it's plain useless.
It doesn't even show your opponents' advancement.

The only solution I know of is using F1, alphabetizing the list -- when you mouse over the city, it's location will glow on the minimap.
ModernKnight May 29, 2007, 06:33 PM Thanks everybody... it looks like I was confusing Civ4 with previous versions. But since I had put down Civ4 for a while and then picked it up again, I couldn't remember if I'd seen it for Civ4 somewhere, or was just confusing it.
No matter. It's rare to have no idea where an enemy city is. And those city super close-ups were eye candy, anyway.
