View Full Version : Civ Of The Week
cybrxkhan May 27, 2007, 04:08 PM THIS WEEKS CIV:
VENEZUELA
Civ of the Week is a “project” aiming at bringing you a new, fresh, exotic, and most of all, random, civ every 1-2 weeks, from all corners of the globe, from the Vietnamese to the Mittanni to the Iraqis.
Each civilization will be available in vanilla and warlords, and will feature full civilopedia text entires, 1-2 leaders, a UU, a UB, audio, and full graphics.
Because of the quick speed at which the civs are produced, they may not be as high quality as other well-planned custom civs, but hopefully, the civs will be playable at a decently enjoyable level.
The purpose of Civ of the Week, then, is two-fold:
1. To bring you random civs that would probably not have been chosen as civilizations first of all, and to provide a new, more exotic, more interesting experience in choosing civilizations.
2. To promote more knowledge of lesser-known peoples, cultures, and histories.
Otherwise, then, enjoy!
Statistics and Information for:
VENEZUELA
Hello all!
I have taken a long break from my "Civ of the Week" series, due to the fact I am now spearheading a bigger mod enterprise, the unofficial expansion, World of Legends.
However, I have decided to make a civ for this week - Venezuela, which will also be featured in World of Legends.
Yes, this is a really small "demo" of World of Legends.
Nevertheless, here are the statistics:
Leader: Simon Bolivar - Philosophical, Protective (Favorite Civic: Nationhood)
UU: Llanero (Replaces Cavalry) - 25% withdrawal chance, +1 First Strike
UB: Resort Hotel (Replaces Broadcast Tower) - +15% gold
Started Techs: Mining, Mysticism
Because this is considered a demo and not the final product (the complete World of Legends "Unofficial Expansion"), there is almost certainly to be a number of bugs, issues, or problems. If there are, feel free to report them.
To install, simply put the folder in the zip in your mod folder.
Thanks to:
- Bakuel for the Mesoamerican Cavalry
- Charcoal and White, Rabbit for their tutorials

thank you! there is a vanilla and warlords version if you can't find the warlords. oh, and if you do find the warlords, can you please check for any errors or bugs. that would be much appreciated.
dazman92 Jun 01, 2007, 08:51 PM i found it, but its scratched to oblivion. i gotta buy a new one.

porto_alegre_xP Jun 01, 2007, 09:20 PM if u need more ideas for civilizations, i have. :P
cybrxkhan Jun 01, 2007, 09:31 PM if u need more ideas for civilizations, i have. :P
thanks for the offer. buuut.......... i have made a list of the civilizations i'll be doing, or at least considering... its about eighty to a hundred civs already, at least... :D but if you have any ideas, it could help, nevertheless.

north pole civilization, leader santa claus, unique unit elf (replaces worker, make improvements 400% faster, give gifts on christmas and make chocolate cakes!)
84% of the download... wow, eighty civilizations is... a very big number of it! oo" just to know, a brazilian civilization or a civilization of brazilians indians are in this list? IS IT???? *take a sword*
dazman92 Jun 02, 2007, 12:25 PM im personally looking for an Ethopian civ.
Osymandias Jun 02, 2007, 03:58 PM well then, here you go: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=4468

well, i prefer to do civilizations that people haven't made up yet. you can find a Brazil civ here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=138755
i'm also sure that CivArmy made some more Brazilian tribal civs. Brazil also features on CivGold, one of the most prestegious massive civ add-on mods (about fifty+ civs in the latest version): http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=165969

im sure you meant the hyksos leader looks sick, not the civilization. ;) the Hyksos and the Egyptians for that matter weren't that sick... actually, as i said somewhere here, i got the inspiration for the hyksos leader (art-wise) from CivGold - their leader Nebuchadnezzar looks uncannily similar, and just as... well, weird. but it does look "egyptian-ish", believe me.
the nation-state, not the band.
hmm... interesting... good idea. i'll look into it. im starting to run out of ideas for civs... (but i got almost a hundred alreadly anyways)... at this rate, Danzig will be ready in two to two and a half years! :D

sick as in slang sick, meaning "awesome"
as for the danzig idea...ill look up a UU for that.
Aztec_Snoopy Jun 16, 2007, 10:20 AM the dialogue is funny ffor apepi 2 when he says, i am, too, the great apepi 2
cybrxkhan Jun 18, 2007, 02:27 PM okay... thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.
took me a while to get this week's civ done, but i have just uploaded the Anglo-Saxons (ill get screenshots soon)... so enjoy!
pay-t Jun 21, 2007, 11:08 PM Another nice one. But I wonder how you came up with the idea to use the Marjoz unit as a button for your Huscarl. :D You didn't fool me, since the Marjoz will be the UU of my upcoming Sweboz civ:p
But a nice job anyway, I like it:goodjob:

first: i'm a civarmy's fan, but my game is more... atualizated for his creations.
second: i know that there's a lot (not a looot, but some) civilizations that are brazilian tribes, but there's a LOT (SO MUCH) indian tribes here, and anyways I really like your works, this is why I was asking... :( but all right, I will check CivGold ;)
dazman92 Jun 28, 2007, 07:04 PM ive been doing research on Danzig/Gdansk for you
a good leader would be Świętopełk II of Pomerania, a famous prince of the region. traits would be ?/Cha. He had a lot of allies.
no word on a UU yet. sorry.
A UB could be the torture house (im not joking. there's a famous one on the "Royal Road". Check wikipedia if you dont believe me.)
Jail, but with +1 happiness
cybrxkhan Jun 28, 2007, 07:48 PM ^sounds interesting. even so, its going to take a while before we get to Danzig. anyhow, i've been a bit slacking off lately, and my computer beens all funny here and there, so i think give it maybe a few more days or a week to the next civ.

yeah, i was wondering where my civ of the week was.
maybe you should make it civ of a random timeframe.
Schmendrick Jul 04, 2007, 10:23 PM I love the idea of an Anglo-Saxon civ. One thing, however . . . the leaderhead seems quite off. His facial features do not appear remotely European.
Dennis_Moore Jul 05, 2007, 06:22 AM May I suggest the Vandals with Geiseric as a leader.
cybrxkhan Jul 05, 2007, 01:57 PM @everyone: I have uploaded the Khitan after a long wait. I was a bit lazy. :) but they're here, and i must say the Khitan are so far one of my more favorite. enjoy! (and please report any bugs!)
next "week" will be the Mughals.
But I wonder how you came up with the idea to use the Marjoz unit as a button for your Huscarl. :D
i found the unit on the EB site, and thought, well, Huscarls were guys with axes, and they looked barbaric and were European, so why not. :)

really? he is based on Brennus...
May I suggest the Vandals with Geiseric as a leader.
the Vandals are on my list. however, they are pretty far down... they are probably somewhere around thirtieth or fourtieth on the list. but they'll be in. hopefully.
purplexus Jul 06, 2007, 01:14 AM Will you be making any of these civs plug and playable?
BtS will support plug and playable mods as a base function. (built into the game engine)
If you are interested I have a How To Guide on how to convert civs into a Plug and play mod PM me
Saim Jul 06, 2007, 04:06 AM Your making the Mughals? And Akbar's gonna be a leader? Awesome!
What's the other leader gonna be, Shah Jahan, Jahangir or Aurangzeb? Aurangzeb would be a good contrast to Akbar (one was tolerant, the other a zealot).
cybrxkhan Jul 06, 2007, 05:05 AM our making the Mughals? And Akbar's gonna be a leader? Awesome!

i was going to do Shah Jahan, planningo n making Akbar kinda an expansionist philosophical king, and Shah Jahan more a creative and industrial guy.

Whoa, so that's how the SDK looks? I've never seen it, they don't make one for the mac... ...But I'm getting windows in three days...:D
cybrxkhan Jul 11, 2007, 03:56 PM ^no, its called a Nifviewer. :) its where you view Nif art files.
Saim Jul 17, 2007, 05:11 AM I would give Akbar the Spiritual trait, myself. Spiritual/Organized or Spiritual/Expansive, maybe
EDIT: I also noticed that Mao Zedong appears as TXT_KEY_LEADER_CHINESE_LEADER (his code, as opposed to his name, 'Mao Zedong') in all of your screenshots.
dutchking Jul 17, 2007, 12:43 PM ^no, its called a Nifviewer. :) its where you view Nif art files.
Could you post a link to one? I can't find one anywhere. :crazyeye:
cybrxkhan Jul 17, 2007, 12:57 PM Could you post a link to one? I can't find one anywhere. :crazyeye:
link to download the nifviewer... erm... i'm not sure where you can get one... well, you can search the Tutorials section here, and look in any thread that has to do with making leaderheads or units, and perhaps there will be a link to it. sorry if i can't help muchj. :)
Pikkis Aug 05, 2007, 10:29 AM Isn't Craftsman's Quarters overpowered? It gives +50% production, I assume from your notes, while +35%/+40% would be balanced, I think (another Forge replacement, Mint, gives +10% gold and +25% production). Heavy Bombard is also overpowered (15str city attacker with Gunpowder?). Your Khitan civ's UU and UB look overpowered too. I think your Vietnamese Warrior should have Woodsman I too, not only Woodsman II (looks odd).
cybrxkhan Aug 05, 2007, 10:50 AM ^hmm.
well, i never bought warlords, so i don't have as good an idea of what would be balanced or not... but i'll take your words into account and make my next civs less powered. thanks for the advice.
sadly, now that i have BtS, unless there is a decent sized demand for my older civs, i won't be redoing any of my older civs (the only exception being Vietnam :) ).
Quantumf8 Aug 07, 2007, 10:18 AM Just some suggestions about this, You may want to rework your akbar model to use Mehmed II's body and turban, but peter's face, here'swhat akbar is portrayed as:
http://www.s9.com/images/portraits/436_Akbar.jpg
Also, on the UU, perhaps a cavalry replacer or a musketman replacer, the mughals had very superior gunsmithing that helped lead to their rise.
keep up the great work! loving your "civ of the week" series! :D
Thinker19930602 Aug 07, 2007, 02:31 PM Could you redo all your civs and make new ones for BtS???

Um... I still haven't gotten a response.
Cyberxkhan, how do you get the UUs? I am trying to mod in civs, I can do it, but I just can't think of UUs. Do you use Wikipedia for your Civilopedia entries, not make Civilopedia entries, or make your own?
Thinker19930602 Sep 15, 2007, 04:00 PM Could you redo all your civs and make new ones for BtS???
well, are you going to do BtS or not?????
cybrxkhan Sep 15, 2007, 04:22 PM well, are you going to do BtS or not?????
perhaps, but probably not yet. maybe even never, if i get busy enough. the thing is, i'm right now managing an even bigger and ambitious project right now (see my sig if youre interested).
i have done a Vietnam BtS version; if i have free time, i will try to make the others.
Cyberxkhan, how do you get the UUs? I am trying to mod in civs, I can do it, but I just can't think of UUs. Do you use Wikipedia for your Civilopedia entries, not make Civilopedia entries, or make your own?
for UUs, i generally take wikipedia and search google. its not very reliable, but it gets the job done.
sorry if im not available to answer - im busy with my project right now. :) but don't worry, i hopefully won't forget you guys
ewu.7waker Sep 15, 2007, 04:30 PM after the mughals, can u make a mod for the oyo empire or an updated version for the kingdom of benin:confused: :D
p.s. vietnamese looks impressive
KaiserAlexander Sep 16, 2007, 02:46 AM You say you have a whole list of civs that people haven't made yet? Is the Macedonian Empire on this list, by chance? :3
Saim Sep 17, 2007, 08:21 PM THIS WEEKS CIV: THE VIETNAMESE

What a strange typo.
cybrxkhan Nov 01, 2007, 09:49 AM Hello all!
After a long break from Civ of the Week, I've decided to upload a civ, at long last - Venezuela.
Venezuela is actually going to be featured in the World of Legends "Unofficial Expansion", but I have decided to upload it as a mini-mini-demo for WoL. Nevertheless, this is only one civ to be added.
I may consider uploading a few other civs that may be featured in WoL.
Heres the link to Venezuela:

No, it has already been made. *grimaces*

I finally noticed that too. :) But its all changed now, so...
dutchking Nov 01, 2007, 01:28 PM Cool! It shows you've been doing something these past months! ;) (;))
Civ4luvah2484 Jul 28, 2008, 06:25 AM Ok. I have a serious problem here. After I downloaded the Khitan civilization, I saved it in here:
C:\Documents and Settings\ben\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\New Civilizations
I created a new folder anyway. After that, I copy+paste the XML Documents to the C:\Program Files by right-clicking the Civ4 shortcut & clicked properties & then clicked find target. I copy+paste the XML documents to the following files:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Art
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Audio
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Civilizations
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\GameInfo
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Interface
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Text
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\Units
I also copy+paste the sound files to this folder:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Sounds\Diplomacy
On the XML files, It said that I should have the option to replace the files or not. I clicked Yes one by one. Then when I played the game, a series of warnings about XML files not loading pop up while the game's still loading. I ignored them. Then, when I check the Civilopedia, all the civs were gone & when I clicked the "Play Now!" & at the area where I supposed to pick a civilization, there were no civilizations to choose from except for Random. Can anyone please help me with this??????? I NEED HELP!!!!!!
NikNaks Jul 28, 2008, 06:47 AM Okay, you've made several serious mistakes here, and it might mean you have to re-install, sorry.
The first thing you should have done is kept the folder you had when you un-zipped. You should have put this folder into:
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\New Civilizations\Assets\
The text in bold is what you missed off. You should NEVER overwrite your core files. Always put them in Mods.
Unfortunately, because you over-wrote your original files, you'll have to re-install your game to get them back. Check back with me once you've re-installed.
