Anyway, here are the build queues for Asphinxia:

El Amarna - library, courthouse, temple.
Callisto - library, temple, courthouse.
Abydos - library, courthouse, temple.
Memphis - spearman, walls, courthouse, temple.
Thebes - spearman, walls, courthouse.
Byblos - spearman, library, courthouse.
Elephantine - courthouse, walls, library.

I'd also like the entertainer in Memphis set to doing some work on one of the flood plain squares since all the luxuries are resulting in excessive happiness and at present, no work!

I knew a Culture Club member was the right one to vote in for Governor :goodjob:

Great initiative! Looks like we have a new hard-working governor! I encourage you to now come out for our chats too, if you can make it.

1 question. How effective will courthouses be that far from the centre of our empire? Will they at least pay for themselves?

These queues were entered during tonight's turn chat.

Pikes were started in the place of some of the spears and the library in Abydos was rushed under orders from the Culture Department.

Not sure as to whether they will actually pay for themselves financially from the start, but in some of those cities rescuing one or two shields from wastage would double their productivity so that even if they couldn't support more improvements they would be able to play a more active role in the empire... for example by acting as unit factories - at least until something is done about relocating the Palace (or FP, but preferably the Palace) within effective range.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback on the build queues, I'm glad you approve :)

I would like to request two changes to the build queues listed. Since the whole matter of the Culture Minister's override power is still being debated, I thought the best way to go about this would be to submit the request to you and reach a consensus. Byblos and Elephantine are currently the only border towns without a library, or any culture-producing buildings for that matter. This limits the tiles they can work, and makes them vulnerable to culture flips. They both have libraries in their current queues, but I would request that they be switched now to libraries, and those be rushed, to start generating culture. The cost of rushing the libraries would come from my budget. This would allow them to immediately return to the original build queue. I am most concerned about Byblos, as it is about to finish a Pikeman, and the cost to rush a library after that is completed would be much higher. It seems like it would be easier to build a pikeman in a more productive location, (or Musketman), and move it there. Thank you for your consideration!

I'd be happy for you to rush libraries in those cities, provided the Military Department does not object.

Dear Governor Eklektikos,

As you know Thebes has recently been selected by our people as the site of our Forbidden Palace. I offer my congratulations!

Thebes is already set on the Forbidden Palace but is only producing 4 good shields per turn (s/t) as the city has three entertainers. By putting two of the entertainers to work in the forests and by switching one laborer from the flood plains to the irrigated plains Thebes can produce 7 good s/t. I humbly suggest that this be done and that a market be built in Thebes before the Forbidden Palace. At 7 s/t the market would be done in 14 turns. There is also the possibility of completing it sooner using national funds. I think doing so would greatly speed the building of our second capital in you great province.:egypt:

Also, please post your updated build queues in the turn chat instruction thread. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22952)

Thank you,
donsig

Governor Eklektikos,

Would you take a look at the cities in your province, and see how many could start WLTK days with one worker as an entertainer? Especially if that worker is not working a very productive square. Test this with the current 10% luxury rate and with a 0% luxury rate.

Thanks,

Eyrei
Interim President

I took a look at this and I don't think that it'd be as productive as you believe. Currently, if we reassign any of the entertainers we will have at least one unhappy citizen and so lose our WLTK day. This would in all probability cancel out most, if not all of the extra resources generated by their reassignment. If that is the case then it also follows that the marketplace would take much longer than you anticipate and I'm against postponing the construction of the FP by such a significant number of turns. Given all of this I do not intend putting your plan into practice.
However after looking into all of this I would like to build (preferablyrush) a temple in Thebes before starting the FP in earnest. If we do that then I can reassign one of the entertainers and move one of the flood plains workers as you suggest, plus change one of the remaining entertainers to a tax collector to give pay for the upkeep of the temple.

Governor,

How about rushing a market in thebes? I think there was consensus to spent the treasury funds on this. (We are in turn chat now - can you attend?)

I'm more in favour of a temple, which would allow us to build the FP in 34 turns as opposed to the current 49... if you guys want to rush a marketplace as well as rushing a temple, then go ahead. However I really would like to talk with the Culture Department about rushing in a temple, so if rushing a marketplace would preclude the rushing of the temple then I must say no to the marketplace.
I'd like to join you in turn chat, but I can't seem to figure out mIRC, and the Java applet isn't working for me. (probably need a new version of Java for my PC...)

May 22 update:

The Governor did make it to the turn chat and contributed greatly to our preperations for FPC. We rushed a temple for 224 gold. This allows an entertainer in Thebes to work a tile raising production from 4 to 5 shields/turn. We did not rush the market place as the governor pointed out that markets will not make unhappy citizens happy. The war intervened before we could test that point.

From looking at things today it seems that a market would help in Thebes if we raise the luxury spending. There is talk of rushing Bach's cathedral though and that may make a market unnecessary in Thebes (for FPC preperations).

I urge Governor Eklektikos and all citizens of Asphinxia to join the discussion about upcoming budget allocations. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23111)

What would the Governor say of re-evaluating the build queues in light of finishing the FP in your province? Shall this affect what is to be built?

Estimated Eklekticos, The ONE have some words for You:

"Awake, awake, O Thebes,
clothe yourself with strength.
Put on your garments of splendor,
O Thebes, the holy city.
The traitors and defiled
will not enter you again.
Shake off your dust;
rise up, sit enthroned, O Thebes.
Free yourself from the chains on your neck
and take a new name for my glory"

Tonight I will post my final build queue as governor of this fine province.

I would also like to apologise for my poor performance over the last couple of weeks. This was due to my increasingly hectic RL, which I should have taken account of and appointed an acting governor accordingly.

I wish my successor all the best, and I hope perhaps to be allowed to serve Phoenatica in the future in one of the proposed judicial positions, since I would be able to fulfil such a function by posting from work (as I am now).

Here's a link to the new Asphinxia thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26498) for you edification and delight :)
