View Full Version : Recommended Modpacks
Jessio Jun 06, 2007, 06:26 AM I'm new to modding etc and am after a modpack that has the standard rules or thereabouts but alot more units. Ideally I want a pack that has the extra Indian units (I normally play as India) that have been made here (ie, Medieval Indian Swordsman, Elephant Archer etc). If anyone can recommend/find/create I'll be most grateful.
I just want to say Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me and a sorry if I have posted in the wrong place
Turner Jun 06, 2007, 06:39 AM Not necessarily the *wrong* place, but it would go better in Creation and Customization. I'll move the thread there.
Stormrage Jun 06, 2007, 06:48 AM Plotinus just released a new Indian Work(of art)er :)
Go to the units section and on the top you`ll see a tutorial on how to add units to your game. Its not that complicated, just read carefully (you`re in luck, its in english! ;)) and don`t give up. Also ask any questions, in that thread or here, and we`ll help you out :)
Oh, and welcome to CFC! :wavey:
Turner - nice to see the old avie back.
Steph Jun 06, 2007, 06:49 AM When Steph's mod 2 is finished, you'll have plenty of flavour units for India.
Unfortunately for you, India is quite down the list of to do civilizations :(
Stormrage Jun 06, 2007, 06:55 AM Word on the street is that India is slowly working its way up the list ;)
Virote_Considon Jun 06, 2007, 08:27 AM The Rise and Fall of the Mughals(SP?) 2 by Rambuchan is a good scenario set in India :)
Jessio Jun 06, 2007, 09:24 AM Thanks for the fast responses, I'll try adding those units myself using Colonel Krakens guide and if I get stuck I will ask.
I'll have a hunt for that Rise and Fall of The Moghuls and give it a try
Thanks again.
Jessio Jun 06, 2007, 10:31 AM I've tried adding the units myself but I'm not sure what I have done wrong as it looks right to me.
The error message is in the attachment. I have also included the civedit entry as well.
Here is what I had written in the PediaIcons.txt
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Indian_Swordsman
Indian Swordsman
Load error message says "Missing entry in 'text\PediaIcons.txt' ; ANIMNAME_PRTO_Indian_Swordsman"
Stormrage Jun 06, 2007, 10:50 AM wait sorry, missunderstood - didn`t look at the picture. Answer is on the way.
If your Indian Swordsman uses the default Firaxis Swordsman gfx, then you should type
#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Indian_Swordsman
Swordsman
Jessio Jun 07, 2007, 05:47 AM I managed to figure it out, was a simple mistake, I put the folder with the units in the wrong place. It was actually pretty easy to add the extra units.
Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 05:49 AM See, told ya :) I`m glad everything has worked out for you. Speaking of working, did you see Plotinus` new Indian Worker?
Jessio Jun 07, 2007, 08:21 AM Yes I saw and picked the Indian Worker up, I'm going to move on and add some more units and buildings for other civs. I'm looking to make a mod for myself that has a alot more unique units for all civs as opposed to the generics already supplied.
Steph Jun 07, 2007, 08:33 AM Good idea!
I had the same ;)
Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 08:36 AM LOL Steph, play nice, he`s new :D
Jessio, why don`t try downloading one of the mods that already have a bunch of unique units and stuff :)
Steph Jun 07, 2007, 08:42 AM LOL Steph, play nice, he`s new :D
Jessio, why don`t try downloading one of the mods that already have a bunch of unique units and stuff :)
Because the best mod is not yet finish, so I understand his will to make his own while he waits for mine :D
Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 08:44 AM Um, the best mod is the WH mod, but I take it you are talking about Epic Civ mods ;)
BTW, where is Steph`s mod 1? No linky in your sig? I have to go to the "basement" to get it or something?
Steph Jun 07, 2007, 08:48 AM I'm not sure all the links still works

Just search in the completed modpack subforum, the thread started by me.
Jessio Jun 08, 2007, 10:39 AM I suffer from lazyitis so thats why I asked for a recommendations on some mods (pref conquests) so I wouldnt have to search through myself!!!!!
I'll give Steph's mod a try. Thanks
Stormrage Jun 08, 2007, 11:09 AM Be sure to try Rise and Rule, and Double your Pleasure if you like just Epic mods (expanding the basic gameplay)
There are also some great fantasy mods, like Warhammer, Dragonia, Mystara, Master of Myrror, Fantasy Empires and Midgard (or something like that).
For sci-fi be sure to try the Fallout Mod.
For history there are Medieval European Mod, Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire..
For fun do try various fun scenarios, basicly all the ones on the first page ;) (Escape from Zombie Island 2: remake totaly rocks.)
PS these are just some of the great mods..
The Omega Jun 08, 2007, 11:11 AM And for a really random and crazy mod, there's the Playground Mod. (Lookee! Link to it is in my sig!;) )
Samez Jun 09, 2007, 03:09 AM Hmm and for SciFi fans the Pentagenisis by Neomega is also a must have (even if the terrain hurts quite hard;) )
Stormrage Jun 09, 2007, 08:46 AM Well, I like SciFi, but I don`t like that mod.. But yeah, you should try it, Jess, might like it like other people did :)
T.A JONES Jun 10, 2007, 01:03 AM Im surprised nobody mentioned the Balancer Reloaded.
Why? Its got the most units and least changes to original formula over any other mod ever made. Stephs 2 is the only one set to eclipse those standards set forth and its quite far away (quite sadly :) )
For now The biggest n best that still passes the 'original feel' test, is The Balancer Reloaded no question. Besides what is states in its name, it brings store bought finish to the game(essentail for new mod players who want more of what they finished playing so it goes on longer plus smoother!) Every single thing they added was given full discription (front and back) to match the new graphics , sound and animations. Its like off the shevles expansion to Conquests that uses add-ons to cure previous ailments.
But think know long it takes for 1000 units plus wonders , resources, civs, improvements and techs all penciled in with the same detail as orig entries. Thats a lot of work and where most others fall off. Hey I like to know more about what Im building then its hit points or attack rating so to me its a big advantage.
Its like the Wiki war pedia coving all things civ, but mostly its the fact nothings left out so im not really able to tell its a mod, thats the best thing about this one.
Ya other cleaned up works like Middle age Mod go down excellent aswell.
Fall Horizons needs some serious praise to. Its top notch. I highly rate this one for keepin the origional 3rd Xpack feel Like 'Balancer Rl' does. The new soundtrack is bonus but its much more resource demanding for some reason. You need a at least a 3.2 64 bit processor to handle huge maps on this one.
Heretic_Cata Jun 10, 2007, 12:57 PM And my mod too of course. :D
