Several cities were nominated as locations for the Forbidden Palace in a recent thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22553) . They were PDX, Philadelphia and Thebes. The city that wins this vote will begin immediate preparation (assuming the governor of the city is agreeable) to build the Forbidden Palace. Vote!

The relevant discussion thread is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22464) .

This poll runs for how long?

Because of the importance of this decision, I would like it to run for 72 hours, or until we have 25 total votes (whichever comes first, assuming it lasts at least 48 hours), which is just a couple less than the number who voted in the where are our citizens poll.

I voted for Thebes, even though I know it may be the most difficult to build at, because I think it gives us the greatest benefit. PDX is already producing at better than 66% of its potential, and Philadelphia is over 50%. Not only does that reduce the benefit for those cities themselves, but it also means that half the cities they would affect (those closer to the capitol) would not recieve much benefit. For example, Pherris is at 80%, Civanatory is at 67%, they would not be much better off with the FP in Philly or PDX. Even the further cities, like NY and Washington, are at least somewhat productive, and will improve with courthouses.

Thebes, on the other hand, is surrounded by cities that will never be productive unless we build the FP in that region. It also has more cities within the "inner circle" which would benefit the most: Callisto, Memphis, Byblos, Elephan., and Helio are all within 5 tiles. With buildup by workers, and a courthouse and WLTKD, I think Thebes could be made productive enough to complete the FP.

I fully agree. Without the FP, the entire province of Asphinxia will be next to useless - arguably not worth the resources that would be required to defend it. Building in either of the other two spots may well make a few cities extremely productive, but productive enough to support all those areas of the empire not within effective range of either palace for the rest of the game? I doubt it.

As a citizen of Ameri, Philadelphia is the obvious choice. Yet, this matter is too important for regional factionalism. Our nation will do better if the Forbidden Palace is built in Thebes. So it is with a heavy heart that vote for the former Egyptian capital.

Should one more vote be made on this poll before the turn chat tonight, preparations should be started immediately to build the Forbidden Palace in the appropriate city.

So as to not skew the vote, I will give my recommendations for each city:

PDX: complete it's university and then begin the FP

Philadelphia: complete a courthouse, attempt to start a WLTK day and then optimize shield production, and then start the FP. Also, send a couple of workers to build improvements to create more shields.

Thebes: rush a courthouse, attempt to start a WLTK day and optimize shield production, and then start the FP. Also, send a couple of workers to build improvements to create more shields.

If another vote is not made before the turn chat, the poll should run another day. The suggestions above are not instructions, as none of the cities are within the province I govern. I am sure the governor of whatever province will build the FP will cooperate, as it is quite an honor to have the Forbidden Palace next door.

It looks as though we will be building the Forbidden Palace in Thebes. This will take some effort, time and patience, but we do need to get started. A significant amount of the budget will be devoted to this project, so department heads should expect smaller budgets for the next couple of weeks.
