View Full Version : Unit transformation?
cometflash Jun 07, 2007, 01:40 AM I was adding some unit just now (first timer), I think I did good, as I didn't get an error yet...lol. I know that are some tutorials here, but I usually only read then if I get in trouble, or if I'm lost. By looking were the other units, with similar file names (at the end), I was able to figure out were they go, and I learn a lot by doing so.
I notice that each unit file is responsible for one of each unit movements, like run, attack etc.
So here is a question:
What would happen, if I mix more then one unit, in the unit folder? Like one unit for attack, and a complete different unit for regular and run or fortify. Would that unit morph? If so, that would be a great, if someone is doing a transformer mod. If not, what does it happen then?
Plotinus Jun 07, 2007, 01:45 AM It will just play the different animation. It wouldn't "morph", it would just flick from one unit to the other. Try it and see.
cometflash Jun 07, 2007, 01:53 AM Well I just manage to add my units for the first time with no problems, I don't think I'm at the point of trying this just yet.
Like what would happen if I had the flc for one unit (a little guy) of run default and fortify, and have another unit (a giant robot) as the attack, wouldn't the little guy transform to a big giant robot every time he try to attack?
Plotinus Jun 07, 2007, 01:56 AM Yes.
The easiest way to try it is just to copy the attack file into the folder of the unit you want to "transform", and give it the same name as the original attack file.
cometflash Jun 07, 2007, 01:59 AM Ok, I think I'll search for a giant robot to download (I think I saw something on the playground mod), and I'll see what happen...lol.
cometflash Jun 07, 2007, 02:48 AM Hahah, I did it, and is so cool. The unit kind of morph.
I used Darque Drider, as was the first giant unit I could find.
Ozymandias Jun 07, 2007, 11:00 AM Re: Plotinus' comment, this is a "trick" I use quite a bit: I use a wagon animation to move 19th century balloons, and a mixture of LVTP and Marines for marines, etc.

Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 11:12 AM Whats a LVTP?
Goldflash Jun 07, 2007, 11:29 AM Whats a LVTP?
Landing Vehicle Toilet Paper

 And I thought "Tracked Personnel". Dang, I always get it wrong.
CamJH Jun 07, 2007, 12:24 PM I used to use this trick a while back too for a werewolf unit, where I substitued in the direwolf attacks with a human unit. Walk like a man... fight like a wolf.
Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 12:29 PM Right, and all other units went like : Come back here! Fight like a man!

"Landing Vehicle Tracked Personnel"
Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 01:52 PM I like the Toilet Paper version better ;) So Oz, how does this work, your combination? Its one of them thingies .. the Civ Transport unit, right?

I just swipe flics. For example, the "Run" anim for the balloon is "stolen" from the wagon unit.

Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 04:36 PM No, I know that, but what is the effect of your Marines + Toilet Paper unit.
When do Marines Show up, when the Transport is attacked by another ship? Doesn`t that look wierd?

No, the Marines remain regular ol' ground units with the LVTP as the Run anim. If the transport carrying them is attacked, that's the transport's affair. ;)

Hikaro Takayama Jun 08, 2007, 08:55 PM AFAIK, I'm the only person, aside from whomever did the VF-1 to make a unit that actually morphs... My Esperling (UU for the Returners in the FF mod) unit, which is based off of Terra Branford from FF VI looks like a normal human girl for her default, fidget, and run animations, but during the fortify animation, she morphs into an Esper (i.e. turns all blue and spectral) and remains as such for all 3 attack animations and the death animation, but the victory animation is her morphing back to human.

Sounds very cool. Luckily, I don't have to worry about landing craft morphing into infantry and back again :)
Stormrage Jun 09, 2007, 09:06 AM The Run animation!?!?!?... but thats... thats.. brilliant.. wow!
Imagine a Space Marine Landraider dashing across the map.. then it stops, its shooty gunz.. shoot at everything in attack A... and then it becomes a Space Moron unit in the Attack B (the one that loops). No need to think how to make the Artificial Idiot load troops in vehicles (and the itself vehicle then doesn`t loose the abillity to load into something!). The stats might be tricky, but we`ll work on that.
This is .. wow.. thanks Oz!

My humble pleasure. :)

cometflash Jun 14, 2007, 04:21 PM Like I was thinking on transformers first, wouldn't be possible to make an flic attack which a robot is just transforming from the unit, and right away attacking. The problem would be matching the too, and making the transformation + attack quick enough.
I know, I can't wait to watch transformers, am I alone?

I know, I can't wait to watch transformers, am I alone? Then you should check out the VF-1A Veritech Fighter (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=24136) done by Kinboat five years and ten days ago. Don't let the age scare you, if it's made by Kinboat it's built to last... :D
Supa Jun 14, 2007, 05:46 PM Five years ? Damn..
Wolfhart Jun 14, 2007, 05:49 PM Five years ? Damn..Tell me about it... I actually remember when he released it... :old:
