View Full Version : JUNE Tech Icon Maker of the Month Submission & Request Thread
Spacer One Jun 07, 2007, 09:17 PM THE RULES
1. Everyone may enter a tech icon, as long as:
1A:The submitter is the creator of the Tech Icon
1B:The Tech Icon is the first working version and is therefore new, not posted before the month of the competition either on this website, nor on any other.
1C:The new Tech Icon must be available for download for the civ community.
1D:Cut ‘n pasters can also join.
1E:Upon submission of your entry a GIF,JPEG, or PNG preview of both the large and small Tech Icon must be provided as separate images.
1F:Only one entry per person, per month please. You may change your entry at any time during the month before the Jury thread is launched.
2. There is no theme in this competition. Any tech icon can participate!
3. The tech icon maker can choose any tech icon he wants. For inspiration and ideas the submission thread of that month may contain requests by other members.
4. A link to the tech icon together with a preview needs to be posted in this thread JUNE 30, 2007. After that a jury thread will be launched in which the winner will be decided by a 1 week poll.
4a. The Tech Icon file must be posted in the graphics modpack sub-forum in either a new thread or in your library(Or in the File Database).Do not post the files directly in the competition thread, use a link to your thread. If you plan on doing a lot of graphics I would strongly suggest starting your own library thread. The main reason for this is that if you only post the files in the competition thread people wont be able to find them easily later on.
4b. The preview must be posted as an image not an attachment. This makes it easy for me to add it to the preview thread and jury thread with out having to download the file re-save it as a gif and upload it to image shack myself to make a proper preview.
5. This is supposed to be a friendly competition between gentlemen (m/f ). Please stay friendly to each other at all times...
Let the requesting begin...
Stormrage Jun 07, 2007, 09:24 PM Requesting?

Keroro Jun 09, 2007, 11:07 AM I think that some people have used the submission thread as a place to make requests in the past, which I think is a really good idea. I must get an icon submitted this month by the way, but I'm not sure what to do - so I'm open to requests. :)
Spacer One Jun 11, 2007, 08:16 PM Since I forgot to reserve a post for previews, they will be in post 3...
for now, my submission (Subject to change, as Id like to work more on the Icon)

Supa Jun 15, 2007, 05:30 AM Make it June in that case. ;-)
You can rename the current thread by editing the OP.
I suggest :

TopGun Jun 15, 2007, 04:09 PM that won't work
Plotinus Jun 16, 2007, 02:47 AM You can edit the title of a thread you have begun, but only within a couple of minutes of posting it. After that it's stuck, and you have to ask a moderator to do it for you.
Title changed.
Supa Jun 16, 2007, 04:09 AM Thanks Plotinus !

William GBTW Jun 16, 2007, 09:55 PM Spacer thanks for taking this over. I finally remembered my password.
I just wanted to say that sadly I don't think I'll be back much anymore, I created my own browser based game and its been taking my time, perhaps months from now I'll be able to comeback.
I miss CivIII Modding however. Anyways I'm OFFICIALLY giving up any right to hold this contest again without your permission ;)
Thanks everyone for making the fun mods/files/scenarios/etc that provided me with hours of wholesome entertainment. I hope to be back in a few months but I doubt it.

utro43 Jun 24, 2007, 01:19 PM wow.....
well so much for an egyptian victory this month ;)
great work LR!
Spacer One Jun 24, 2007, 01:22 PM LMR, the DL link is returning to the post its in, not the active file :)
LizardmenRule! Jun 24, 2007, 08:25 PM I've always done that :p
Okay, now the link goes to the download section :)
Spacer One Jun 26, 2007, 07:11 AM Preview posted...
@LMR you know you are the only person who actually follows the letter of the rules...everyone uses a paint prog to make a single pic for the preview. You normally post 2 separate pics...nothing wrong with how you do it or anything, I just found it amusing.
@All Competitors: I will be taking a plane from Atlanta GA, to Oakland CA on the 1st...SO would you like me to post the voting thread early? or a day or 2 late? or should I ask someone to take care of it for me?
LizardmenRule! Jun 26, 2007, 08:56 AM  the reason for the two pics really is that i have already posted the large pic in my graphics library, so rather than use more space by posting a combined pic, i upload the small one and post 'em both. im not a goody goody or anything :p
In relation to the voting thread question, it should be posted later rather than earlier, so you dont catch some people out who are looking to make a late entry (although i think thats unlikely). of course, someone else starting the voting thread would be the best solution
utro43 Jun 26, 2007, 09:17 AM i agree with LR, later is better. :)
Spacer One Jun 26, 2007, 06:28 PM well, I should be able to start it either late the 1st, or early the 2nd...so...
unless someone else wants to take care of it for me :mischief:
Blue Monkey Jun 28, 2007, 01:09 PM @LMR you know you are the only person who actually follows the letter of the rules...everyone uses a paint prog to make a single pic for the preview.Like an exploding sheep, I just followed what I saw others doing. I can easily change my postings in the future.the reason for the two pics really is that i have already posted the large pic in my graphics library, so rather than use more space by posting a combined pic, I upload the small one and post 'em both.I upload my previews to ImageShack. So I don't incur any upload use here. And I can easily post the small image as a separate file there.
