View Full Version : Goody Huts Question

Not sure this is the right forum, but...
I play Civ3 and Civ3 PTW, and usually create my own map. Nothing fancy, no weird rules, etc. Here's what I find odd:
On some maps, Goody Huts consistently bring up angry barbarians and occasionally other results (usually a deserted village). On other maps they never bring up angry barbarians but I do get lots of good results e.g. new city, settler, gold, etc.
I've looked at everything I do on the "good" and "bad" maps and, as far as I can tell, there is no difference in any of the rules or scenario settings.
Changing barabrian activity level seems to make no difference: I've tried all the setting; same results. Starting over with a map doesn't change anything either; whatever the problem, it seems to be embedded in the map itself.
Is this inconsistency normal, or am I missing something in the Editor?
Thanks!!!

Would it be the case that the "good" maps are those where you play an Expansionistic civ? Civs with that trait never get barbarians from huts, other civs get them very frequently on the higher difficulty levels.

Thanks!!!If you're playing a civ with the Expansionist trait you'll only get good results of popping goody huts. Also if you're using a unit with the flag All Terrain As Roads to pop goody huts you'll only get good results.

Edit: TLC beat me to it. I'm a slow writer...

Mmmmm, could be. I use Rome a lot (militaristic-commercial) and on that combo, they do get angry barbarians. I've used other combo's, too, and I think maybe some of them cancel each other out on goody hut response. Time to do some experimentation. I'd really like to find the combo that creates on-the-spot towns.
Thanks Last Conformist and Wolfhart!!!

The only one that affects the huts is expansionist and thats it.

Also when you experiment is the preserve random seed on? Becouse if you save just before popping one and pop it several times, it will still be the same thing inside. But if its off, its diffrent.

This sounds interesting. How did you find this out?

^ The scout does that, edit: yeah, but it doesn't have that flag. :hammer2: Stupid me. :)

It kinda makes sense, because in the epic game that flag's possessed by the Explorer and Conquistador units. :)

This sounds interesting. How did you find this out? It's old info from Firaxis (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=601727&postcount=103), but it's been tested in C3C 1.22 too. Any unit with the All Terrain As Road flag won't ever awake Barbarians from a goody hut.

Hi Findus, no I turn on random seed...or turn off preserve random seed...or whatever! Anyway, it's set to give me a random response each time. :) Forgot where I found that, but maybe in the Strategy Guide?
