I know it's sad...but I can't figure it out. A lower matinence cost? Happiness points?

As far as I know , a favorite civic is the one leader X is most likely to adopt.

She may demand that you switch to it.

When you do adopt a leader's favorite civic, it improves your diplomacy rating with that civ.

if they're using it at the same time. and they don't always use it, they can be weirdos. george washington seems to frequently require bribes to use his own favorite civic, go figure.

the bonus that you earn from using it while they do builds up with time, and if you (or they) stop using it the bonus disappears from your screen immediately. but they remember that you were using it, and if you both are using it again at some point before a tremendously long time passes, you keep some of extra you built up and don't start at +1 again, like when you change away from and back to a shared religion.

you do get the bonus even if you're both forced into the civic by a UN vote; in that case tho, so does your UN opponent of course, something to watch out for.

they do all give you some bonus that builds with time for the favorite civic thing, but some care more than others. so the bonus builds up with time over different rates with different leaders, like shared religion + does.

if they demand that you switch and you decide to say yes, but then you switch back after 5 turns, you keep the "+1 you accepted our favorite civic" bonus that you earned. i guess they don't notice *giggle*.

you do not get any type of bonus for using the favorite civic of the leader you're playing. it's purely a flavor/diplomacy thing for the AI.

that's the list of typical questions that i can think of atm.

I knew you'd give him a comprehensive answer once you saw this. :)

+1 you made me giggle!

when i read it again, i noticed some things i didn't mention. they might be obvious but since i'm already here...

if they demand that you change to their favorite civic, and you don't do it, you get a -1 with them, just like most things.

you can find out what their favorite civic is by looking them up in the civilopedia.

the "you do not get any type of bonus for using the favorite civic of the leader you're playing" goes for them too. they don't get anything out of it, they're just programmed to favor it, and consider you wiser if you're using it when they are.

they get the "you have wisely chosen your civics" bonus with each other too.

you can only ask or bribe them to change civics that you're using yourself. i do that sometimes in cases where someone's using Rep when it's not their favorite civic, but it's earning them +s with Gus for example. i want to kill Gus (or the other guy) and i want to avoid the "you declared war on our friend" if i can. when the adopt a civic is redlined for "that would go against everything we stand for", well, i don't know what that means, because it's often for all 5 and not their favorite. and it annoys the heck out of me!

Somedays I think that Iustus should consult various regulars here about strategies, build orders, promotion choices civics , victory types and research preferences , just to model a playstyle for each Civ to make the A.I. more challenging and interesting and flavorful.

That's when I find myself thinking..."and wouldn't it be cool if Hattie could play like KMadCandy? " when Gus yells "Hey! No fair! KMAdCandy never fights me mano a mano!"

oh hatty is the worst when i'm trying to be diplomatic and smooth things over with the most people possible! when i have to deny her stuff she has the cutest pout and i actually feel guilty. my husband can tell from my expression, he goes "you just told hatty no didn't you". and when she says "that's not very nice KMad" i have to admit that she's right.

i don't know that patterning any AI after me would make it more challenging. interesting and flavorful? perhaps. in the "may you live in interesting times" sense, since i'm a complete oddball and i admit it!

I'm playing a game where I am on a continent with her. She's like Tokugawa; she won't trade any techs whatsoever. I used to like her since she's peaceful, but now I find her annoying.

I think of her as the only A.I. that's trustworthy.

If I treat her like a friend, she won't backstab me.

Gahndi, on the other hand, will capitulate, but he'll try to build the U.N.....Grrrrrr!
