There is some different artwork for the same units, thanks to our fans
it's not for all civs or all units, but there is a noticeable difference"

WTF??? did I miss this being mentioned here?

no one cares about this obviously amazing important step, because we're all bashing at the HRE. :D

Yes. You did miss it, you can check the chat log and the question and answer format which are stickys, which are located on the top of the list of threads.

And I forgive you for posting something you found at Apolyton. :)

I included it in the units description, as I also agree it's a pretty big change. I was always tired of seeing the units look exactly the same, no matter what civ they were from.

To me this is brilliant news... its kind of odd to start as Shaka with units that looks as thought they may as well come from Iceland theyre so white! and Russian tanks that look like T34s (hopefully)

Brilliant!

I, too, am looking forward to this... I am already planning a mod that will have unique graphics for just about every unit (so the U.S. gets a P-51 fighter, while the Japanese get the Zero) without having to add all that XML! It's great. I only wish they'd do that for the epic game.

Be careful about the anti-Apolyton sentiment around here. ;) Also probably not the best idea to name a thread "From Apolyton." The people at CFC are mighty 'patriotic.'

forgive him, why would we want to do that, get out you torches and pitchforks

:joke: i actually have an apolyon account

back on topic, yeah, i am really looking forward to this also. Finally Firaxis took an idea that people hear had already made and made it more proffesional :goodjob: Firaxis

I only wish they'd do that for the epic game. huh? That was in response to a question about civilizations in BtS. What makes you think it is not in the epic game?
(P.S. sorry for having the same conversation with you in two differnt threads )

Gaius Octavius

Yeah, duplicate topic...

What I meant was, "I wish they'd change every single unit in the epic game." According to the description, it's not for every unit (for obvious reasons, I imagine.) But that's okay, as even I'd have a hard time trying to come up with an Aztec Stealth Bomber graphic. And I think at the time, I wasn't sure if it was in the epic game or not... further data suggests it is, which is good. :)

yeha, that's one of the big features in BtS.
i like to play with the EDU mod. now it is in the unmodded game, great!

i hope they will include an option where you can disable the EDUnits for performance reasons with weak pcs on big maps with lots of civs.

Sometihing I saw in the BTS info center, but can't find out what it really is.
What is an epic game ?
Nothing to do with epic speed, right ?

RedRalphWiggum
Jun 19, 2007, 05:05 AM
Yeah I found that confusing too.... it dosent relate to game speed at all form what I can see, I think its just another way of saying the main game

Ideas for what the new diversified units will be:

I presume the faces will be altered accordingly, i.e. Zulus black, Scandaniavians white, Chinese orientals... hopefully English, American, French etc will be a mixture
Tanks made appropriate, i.e. Russian tanks T-34s, US tanks Bradleys?
Fighters? brits get Spitfire-a-like, Japan gets Zero-a-like etc?

Correct, it has nothing to do with the epic speed. Here, check out the definition of epic.

I highly look forward to EDU in BtS, maybe thats why WR has put it off. I don't know about the modern age though, except for infantry theres nothing much there, many of you will disagree with me but I find that all planes and tanks look the same. I have never been that interested with the modern era except for WWII/WWI scenarios.

Finally! It's great that they finally paid some attention to this, as it will make it look much more historically correct.

Considering they are adding pirates and "ninjas", you could say we have ethically diverse units now, too. ;)

Wow, this is really great... I love when different teams, races, civilizations in games have a distinct look to them... not just a different team color. I hope the cities and cottages are even more diversified as well.

In modern times though, I wonder if the units will be mixed races.

Hmm, I don't want to get my hopes very high with this addition and be disappointed when it actually comes out... I guess I could say this for all the new features. Arg, I want to play this expansion already!

Ninja's are not in the game, instead Firaxis said that Ancient Era Great Spies are going to look like ninja's but they arent going to be a unit

Thanks, but I've followed the discussion; that's what the quotes were for around ninjas. It's an inside joke now.

oh i guess I'm out of the loop. DO you think that USA will get the same type of units as the other American (read Incan Maya Aztec) civs or would they be European style

Actually this feature was mentioned more then a week ago in the Alex interview that appeared and disappeared from that site (what was it), nice to see it was finally noticed.

If it follows the EDU (Ethnically Diverse Units) style, European races (includes America) will get Caucasian units, Asians will look Far Eastern, Africans will be black, etc.

Yes, I can't agree more with you guys. It was so stupid to play for the Russians and drive Abrams and fly F-16s. The game is way too "Americanized", especially in the late game. I understand that it was heavily influenced by mostly cattering the game to the US gamers, but the game "went international" a long time ago, so I guess it is time for Firaxis to aknowledge that fact. In the modern era most countries are not using their own-made equipment. Tanks, war planes, submarines, AA defences, missiles and APC's were mostly produced in the USSR, USA, UK, Germany, France, and Sweden. So modern equipment could be represented by these countries. If some civilizations don't have their own war machines, they should be using the ones that historicaly are more appropriate for them. Some civilizations should use NATO equipment (Holland, Romans, Aztecs, Vikings, etc.) and others should use Eastern block equipment (China, Persians, Arabs, Indians, etc.).

I agree with you there... ironically, I get annoyed when I see American troops using foreign jets and tanks! So I guess this is the way to make everybody happy.

If they end up faltering by not replacing most of the units (especially modern ones), or if they simply break it down by culture, and not by civ, I will be releasing a mod that does it "right" soon after. ;)

Is there any confirmation of more city artwork being added? Because I'd like to see some African, Meso American and Middle-Eastern cities.

I wonder what the Sumerian stealth bombers will look like?

NYHunter

They did say that diverse units won't be for every unit for every civ. So obviously there will be some generic use.

Hopefully there will be civ culture groupings but with some civs like the mongols are in a whole class of their own. I hope they get personal and don't just lop india and the mongols with the east asian culture group. I'm tired of seeing "chinese" indian cities. Hopefully america will be in the europe culture group because in civ III it was not that way and I didn't know how to change it because back thenI was clueless about civ.
