http://www.civ3.guardiansweb.de/unit.htm I don't know how many people it applys to, but for sure I see 2 of Dark Sheer's units, incorrectly credited, and two of my own that SpencerH and tpssmall have taken credit for.(Note: SpencerH's credit has since been removed from my unit, thanks to whomever was responsible) I for one am upset that my hours of labor are being claimed by someone else. I don't know if this is simply something I should have expected, or whether everyone else is ok with having their work stolen. I realize we don't get anything out of it, but the principle still stands, in my opinion. I've already tried to contact that site, and 2 of the 3 email addresses given to me were invalid, still waiting for the third one.

You shouldn't just assume that S3d, SpencerH and tpssmall are stealing other people's units. Maybe what happened is the person who set up the site just credited the units to the wrong people--you know, an accident. Once you contact them, set the record straight so the right people get credit for the right units.

You didn't send your units there...right? I didn't send my unit there. I have no reason to assume anyone sent units there and claimed them as their own. I'm sure that the person who runs the site made the mistakes.

If the emails don't work then why don't you tell this guy as he seems to be the one running that web site:

It looks like they just got the names wrong, They have Kryten down as Kripten for example; sloppy work but not intentionaly malicious.

mmmm... look at the Blue O ones, his amazons work in SMAC too and I donīt think is a simple mistake.

I did notice one thing: if you do try and download from the Guardians website (which is linked to CivFanatics), you only seem to get the first zip file. But most animations require two zip files (or am I doing it wrong?!). Is this why the HorseArcher.zip1 file has been downloaded some 400 times while the HorseArcher.zip2 file has only been downloaded 200 times? Or is it just me

As for getting the name wrong....I can only assume that whoever is running the site is just not a Red Dwarf fan....

Looks as though he's just doing the same thing that I did with the unit library. Don't forget that 100s of people now have our units, and may have made all sorts of alterations themselves. Since no copyright exists here, it's a little late to start worrying about having your work in the public domain.

Yes, the internet is all about free spread of information. What happens to that iformation as it spreads is difficult to control. Its like chinese whispers.

A few things you can do to help keep control of you artwork;
#1 Use only one Zip file and upload it to the civfantics site (see the thread at the top of the creation&c Forum for info) instead of several smaller zip files.
#2 Include a small TXT file with instructions on using the unit and also your name (or alias)
#3 if you want to protect agaist genuine sneaky theft of your unit, I.E. someone unziping the file and putting it in a new zip with ne TXT file, then you can use the border colour to write on the very frames of animation themselves (I am right in thinking that the border colour is not one of the shadow colours right?) just put a small leter in each frame, and you have a hidden message, for any one who cares to look.

P.s Kryten, couldn't you find a shot of him using the groinal attachment?

I agree that this is most likely a mistake of the webmaster. ;)

I have seen various website posting my units with the creator being someone else. Oh well. :)

I think it is just sloppy naming, as the Guardians wedsite links to the original zip files at CivFanatics. Lab Monkey is right, they have just compiled a list of all available civ3 new units, but made mistakes with the names.

Speaking of Lab Monkey....you smeg-head (or is it 'smeee heeeed'?)....I think that the picture Smoking mirror was referring to was this one.....

When I started this thread, my kamikaze unit was credited to you. It could certainly have been a webmaster's mistake, but it also could have been someone else sending in my work, claiming it as their own. Since, that problem has been fixed, but my ww1 battleship is still credited to tpssmall. I did check my facts, and run my bases before posting this thread, so keep calm. I think I had a right to be upset, you would be too if it was the other way around.

Say what you want, it's never nice to see such things. My Merkava is now credited to W.I.N.T.E.R.

At least, the TXT file is OK with the real informations.

But still...

Hey Folks !

I think its time to clear up the situation.

Well, concerning the UNITS page : Its a collection of units (mostly from Apolyton and Civfanatics) like the UNITS LIBRARY here.

It was not my intention to harm any ones copyrigths.

It was just a mistake with the creators names...not more.

Well, if there are mistakes i did please reply and i will correct them soon as possible !
