uknemesis May 18, 2002, 06:18 PM It is 1935. The nations of the world had been at war for over a hundred years, until people finally grew tired of fighting. They elected new leaders to bring peace.
The destruction of those wars has killed most scientists, meaning that the nations are stuck with what they can build already, they have no way to advance in technology.
The new peace treaties made the countries of the world fairer, each having about the same amount of land as everyone else.
But now the two four-year terms of these peaceful leaders has finished. New leaders must be elected.
But will they be warriors or politicians? Weak or strong? Patriots or tyrants?
The fate of the world is in the hands of these new leaders.
The countries of the world are:
Britain(Orange)=President Hjalmar Mitchell[PIETER THERON]
Germany(Blue)=Chancellor Gothart von Hotzendorf[TOASTY]
France(Bright Pink)=President Phillipe Henry [DEXTER]
Italy(Red)=President Martin de Atalanta[__LUFFAREN]
Spain(Yellow)=
Russia(Dark Brown)=Premier Romanov[WILBOMAN]
Sweden(White)=Max Gustaf af Stockholm[ICE-EYE]
Greece(Bright Green)
China(Light Pink)=Chairman Matt Sung-Hui[WARLORD MATT]
Japan(Light Brown)=Emperor Kwan-Sn[KWANSN]
South Africa(Black)
America(Light Blue)=President James Cain[EMPROR COOPINIUS]
Egypt(Pale Yellow)
Canada(Purple)=Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau[KUSHANIS]
Iran(Turquoise)=Prime Minister Farid al-Qafar[RANDOM PASSERBY]
Brazil(Grey)=President Gustavo Bergero[KENNELLY]
And here is the map:

MAJOR RULE CHANGE
To make war more frequent, as it is boring without it, I introduce the SKIRMISH concept.
You can order your troops to skirmish along the border, which can result in hightened tensions but not war, as it is a "misunderstanding". Skirmishes don't activate alliances, and are usually not that costly.
To reflect this, the fight is only one round of combat per defender(in comparison to 1 round per attacker normally). A draw, which is usually lethal in normal combat, is just that, a draw between those troops. This will hopefully make skirmishes less costly.
Winning a skirmish can give you a bit of land, not as much as a war though.
************************************************
Okay, now due to the lack of scientists, there are no technological advances to be made, hopefully making the game easier to play.
Also, there will now be no trading either, but there will be one thing which makes the world go round: money.
Each unit costs a certain amount to build; you begin with 500 gold to spend on your first army, and then you get 250 gold per week after that. Losing or gaining territory will make your gold per week level rise and fall accordingly.
Each nation has 10 generals(nicked from Troq's NES :p ). These can each command up to 10 units. They are named as per their number, ie; Britain's first general commands the 1st Army, and Britain's seventh general may actually be an admiral who commands a fleet of up to 5 ships, which would be known as the 7th Fleet. Air armies are called squadrons, ie; 4th Squadron.
COMBAT
The defence value of the defender is taken away from the attack value of the attacker(Attack Value - Defence Value = Modifier). The resulting number, be it negative or positive, is the modifier. I then roll two dice for the defender, and two for the attacker. I then add(or in the case of negative, subtract) the modifier to the attacker's roll. Whoever has the biggest number, attacker or defender, wins the combat. The other unit dies. Then another unit takes that unit's place, and combat continues. This goes on until either one side retreats as per their orders, or one side loses all their forces defending that area. A battle may stalemate when the attacker has lost half their force, on a roll of 7 or below on two dice.
Opposing units, such as tanks and infantry, will automatically seek each other out on the battlefield.
BOMBARDING= Artillery are the only unit that can bombard in the game(for simplicity). Their fire "attacks" a unit, even if it is on the offensive against the player. The bombard value has the defence value of the unit it is attacking taken away from it, and then the normal roll is made with the modifier. If the artillery wins, the unit it fired at is destroyed. If it fails, another roll is made exactly the same. If the artillery wins, it doesn't kill the unit, but survives counter-fire. If the enemy wins again, the artillery is destroyed. Artillery may fire only once during a battle.
Also, at the beginning of battle, artillery may fire at fortifications instead of at units. If it rolls below a 5 on a 2 dice roll, it succeeds in destroying one line of fortifications. Artillery that has fired on fortifications cannot fire at units in the battle that ensues.
PARATROOPERS= Paratroopers can be loaded onto a transport aircraft, which can carry only one paratrooper regiment at a time. On the ground, paratroopers fight as normal infantry, but when dropped from a transport aircraft, which can also drop them across the sea onto an island, they gain a +2 attack bonus.
Transport aircraft can also ferry normal land regiments around your own territory, but these cannot attack from the transport, to do that they must attack from a sea transport, in a D-Day style landing. They do not get any bonus.
Sea transports are needed to move units around across the sea, the only other unit able to do that being the transport aircraft. The sea transport is the only one which can carry normal land units straight into combat, usually an invasion. A sea transport can carry an ENTIRE ARMY, not just one regiment.
AIR AND NAVAL COMBAT
Air units fight it out for control of the sky before any other combat, and the winner in the air can use air transports to deliver paratroopers. The loser's transports remain on the ground, as they aren't stupid enough to try a suicidal parachute drop, and their paratroopers go into battle as normal infantry. Naval combat comes next, and the winner of that can send in sea transports. The loser cannot, and any of his troops arriving by transport remain inside it. Both times, for air and sea transports, a suicide run could be ordered by the nation's leader(must be in orders), where it tries to survive one round of combat with the opposing nation's aircraft/ships to deploy it's cargo. If it is unsuccessful and is killed in the first round of combat against an enemy, all the men inside die. If it survives one round of combat, then the men deploy as normal, but the transport is certain to die as it has no guns and is outpaced by its pursuers.
The units you can buy are:
TANK REGIMENT
Attack=7 Defence=5 Cost=15
INFANTRY REGIMENT
Attack=5 Defence=7 Cost=10
ARTILLERY REGIMENT
Bombard=5 Cost=20
ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN REGIMENT
Attack=3 Defence=5 Cost=15
Gets a +2 Defence bonus against air units.
PARATROOPER REGIMENT
Attack=5 Defence=7 Cost=25
Gets a +2 Attack bonus if dropped from a transport aircraft.
TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT WING
Attack=0 Defence=5 Cost=10
Can deliver ONE paratrooper regiment into combat, or can ferry units around your holdings.
FIGHTER WING
Attack=5 Defence=7 Cost=15
Acts as a normal unit against ground and sea targets, but can only attack them, gets a +2 Attack bonus against infantry/paratroopers and transport aircraft.
BOMBER WING
Attack=7 Defence=5 Cost=20
Acts as a normal unit against ground and sea targets, but can only attack them, gets a +2 Attack bonus against tanks and battleships.
AIRCRAFT CARRIER
Attack=0 Defence=7 Cost=50
Can carry a squadon of aircraft(5 wings), extending their range. Fighters can defend a fleet, and the carrier is the only way bombers can attack when more than a certain distance from your holdings.
BATTLESHIP
Attack=5 Defence=7 Cost=25
Gets a +2 Attack bonus against other ships.
DESTROYER
Attack=5 Defence=5 Cost=20
Gets a +2 Defence and Attack bonus against submarines.
FRIGATE
Attack=3 Defence=5 Cost=15
Gets a +2 Defence bonus against air units.
SUBMARINE
Attack=7 Defence=3 Cost=20
Gets a +2 Defence bonus against ships.
TRANSPORT
Attack=0 Defence=5 Cost=50
Can carry an entire army(5 regiments and one general) into combat or just ferrying them around.
FORTIFICATIONS
Fortifications cost 25 gold per reasonable area of border(ie; France's border with Germany would need one fortification to cover it, Sweden's border in South America with Brazil would need two, Russia's border with China would need three, and America's border with Canada would need four). They add a +1 defence bonus to all troops defending that border. They can be doubled up. Fortifications will be shown on the map, with doubled up ones being in two colours instead of one. Fortifications can also be built along the coast, at 25 gold for twice the amount of coastline that fortifications would normally cover(ie; 25 gold for coastline that would have been covered by 50 gold had it been a border).
SECRET SERVICE
Secret services are now so sharp from years of war that they know everything that's going on in the world(so no PMing, just post it in the thread for simplicity!). So there will be no secret orders via PM, and no negotiating via PM, it will all be done on this thread.
DEPLOYMENTS
Deployments must be posted on this thread at the end of every week, in the form of:
1st Army deployed in India.
Composed of 3 infantry regiments and 2 tank regiments.
And so on for each of your ten Generals. If they are attacking somewhere, say so. This will mean at the end of every week, I can easily post the combat results.
Finally, the per week money will enable you to build new units and replacements. They will begin in your home country, and then either move overland to their new assignment, or over sea. They do not really exist until they reach their assigned Army, which shouldn't take any time at all. If you haven't assigned them by the end of the week, they die.
Play will begin when I say so, although you can already say what you will spend your money on.
Any questions or comments? And I hope that the Simple and Regulated NES people will come to this one and play, so I can shut the old one down as it was becoming too complicated to run.

wilboman May 19, 2002, 06:43 AM This looks fab. Can I join, please, as Russia?
The white countries, BTW, are they neutral (i.e non-player controlled), or a real country? If they are neutral, should it be so that one can't "colonize" them, to keep game balance?
I'd like that. And if you attack them, you automatically declare war on their friends (i.e everyone else)?
Toasty May 19, 2002, 06:47 AM Germany, please!
You know, why not just use a Civ 3-adapted Versailles world map? That would be alot of fun. I think I have one, too...
Chancellor Paul Hindenburg of the Weimar Republic!
uknemesis May 19, 2002, 06:51 AM lol, the white country is Sweden! Sorry, I forgot to mention that, cause Sweden has to be white because I had no other colours to use!
All the world is colonised, and neutral nations(those not controlled by any players) are controlled by me. They will buy a basic army and navy(I'm going to make an average one for the neutrals to use), and each get the same every week. Then when a new player comes in, he can expand their army and navy to his own needs.
Also, these nations WILL be able to defend themselves due to having armies, navies and air forces, and often a declaration of war upon one will result in other neutral countries joining in. Also a neutral nation may offer gold to another nation to aid them in their fight.
Basically, don't see neutrals as a soft touch!
And of course you can be Russia! What will you name be?

Okay, Germany is yours! And I'm using this world map as it is much fairer on all nations of the world at the start - everyone is equal, it's how they play that affects how strong a country they are.

French Poll Results:
President Phillipe Henry of the French National People's Party was elected today ahead nof his rival Jean-Paul Devont of the Socialist Freedom Party.
Phillipe won the position with 82% of French voters behind him! Let's hope the new President can guide France back to becoming a major player in the world.

After that, they're stuck with the army that I give the neutrals, but then get the 250gold per week to improve and change their army. Also, if they redesign the army using 500 gold plus what they get that week and PM it to me, I may consider allowing them to have that one, so long as the neutral hasn't been in combat.

Toasty May 20, 2002, 01:27 PM Paul von Hindenburg, the grayed old Chancellor of the Weimar Republic picked up the fountain pen on his cherry wood desk. After so many years in office, his writting had become scribbled and odd.
Germany was one of the few nations to stablize after the crash of 1929. The introduction of the Reichsmark in 1932 has managed to calm inflation and lessen unrest. The days of the "Starving Billionaires" with the mark had come to an end and squelched the fascist groups in his country, helped along by the assassination of Adolf Hitler, the Nazi party's leader, by a French nationalist in 1933. (The nationalist was never tried).
The slipping in the economies around the world had resulted in a loosening of the noose on Germany's neck. With the Europeans incapacity to enforce upon Germany the harsh standards of Versailles, war debts were stopped. German industry and coal mining in the Saarland was retaken from the French in Spring 1934. The Rhineland had been re-militarized and occupied by the Republican army later that year.
Germany was still not interested in war in Europe. The peaceful ways of the Weimar Republic maintained, though her small military did not. Interested in protecting their colonies and country, von Hindenburg's "Free People's Conservative Party" had made it the forefront of their campaign to re-establish Germany as a world power, a democratic one, by the expansion of military and economy. The gold stockpiles now numbered at 500--a number not seen since the days of the Kaiser.
Germany was on equal terms with Europe now, and von Hindenburg was about to make it so.
He began writing a letter to General von Paten, General for the armed forces of Germany:
TOP SECRET
Germany is to make the following purchases and orders for her army:
Army Corps I:
2 Infantry regiments 20g
3 Panzer regiments 45g
Total: 65g
Orders: Defend Germany's Western border.
Army Corps II:
2 Infantry regiments 20g
3 Panzer regiments 45g
Total: 65g
Orders: Deploy to Africa with Kriegsmarine VI.
Army Corps III:
3 Infantry regiments 30g
2 Panzer regiments 30g
Total: 60g
Orders: Defend Germany's Eastern border.
Army Corps IV:
3 Infantry regiments 30g
Orders: Deploy to German Indonesia with Kriegsmarine VI.
Air Squadron V:
5 fighter wings 75g
Total: 75g
Orders: Defend Kriegsmarine V.
Kriegsmarine VI:
1 Battleship 25g
2 Destroyers 40g
1 Aircraft carrier 50g
1 Transport 50g
Total: 190g
Orders: Deploy Army Corps II to Africa. Return to Germany and ferry Army Corps IV to the German East Indies. Return to Germany and remain.
Kriegsmarine VII:
5 Submarines 100g
Orders: Patrol the North Sea.
Von Hindenburg sighed. A full army and not a mark to spare.

1 Aircraft carrier 50g
1 Transport 50g
Total: 190g
Orders: Deploy Army Corps II to Africa. Return to Germany and ferry Army Corps IV to the German East Indies. Return to Germany and remain.
These are fine except one battleship costs 25gold, not 50. 2 would cost 50gold.
Kriegsmarine VII:
5 Submarines 60g
Orders: Patrol the North Sea.
5 subs cost 100gold, for 60 you would only get 3 subs. The other two can be bought using the money you saved on the battleship(25 gold) and the fighters(15 gold) adding up to the extra 40gold needed.
Von Hindenburg sighed. A full army and not a mark to spare.
That's right, so long as you spend those extra 40 marks on the subs, or if you leave it at 3 subs, then you have 40 marks left to spend.

As for planes, they're in wings, but you can have air divisions if you like, probably easier to remember.
As for ships though, it's not a destroyer division I'm afraid! It's only one ship!
That's how much those babies cost lol! But when they carry the same firepower as an entire artillery regiment(I think) then I think you can see why they come in ones!
Anyway, other than that, there's nothing wrong with that one, so good job!
And Toasty, no need to edit yours so long as you make clear you want the extra money spent on the two subs, I'll just ignore the money and keep to the organisation you've laid out.
Finally, each army was only supposed to hold 5, but after looking at the deployments I posted and realised even I broke the rule, I've changed it to 10 per General, so you can now have 100 units!

Random Passerby May 20, 2002, 05:24 PM (just making up a name at random)
Farid al-Qafar looked out across the city of Tehran. Today was a great day for him, as his first day in office as the country's new prime minister--a triumphant victory not only for himself, but for all the people of Iran; he had not only been elected prime minister, but the first prime minister in the newly formed United Islamic Nations of Iran. Iran and the Arabic nations of the Mideast had banded together for strength in the face of the land-hungry European countries, and now, aided by abundant oil money and the world's pressing need for a workable balance of power, at last they came together in a union powerful enough to face the Western powers on equal terms. And his homeland stood triumphant at the forefront of it all; relatively untouched by the wars the imperialist powers of Europe had fought over Arabian oilfields, it had been behind Iran that the weaker Arabic nations had rallied, and in its name that they united. There were still hurdles to be cleared; even as he stood, cultural tension was building between the diverse peoples of the fledgling nation. But though member states remained stubborn and proud, he knew that they had no choice; Iran alone had the military might and economic stability needed to maintain a strong, independent state.
Stepping into his newly built office in the State palace, he looked over a tactical map of the area. The formal unification of the various member states called for a great deal of reorganization; although the Iranian army formed the core of the new nation's armed forces, local armies would have to be integrated and redeployed to form a unified, consistent military. He looked warily over the borders on the map and the territory looming beyond, and began to jot down notes for his upcoming staff meeting. Though it would drain all the available money left over from the last of the now-stagnant oil sales, soon Iran would have a modern, up-to-date army ready to step up to defend the homeland.

TOTAL: 50 gold
Four armies at 50 gold each (4th, 6th, 7th, 8th): 200 gold
Two armies at 70 gold each (2nd, 3rd): 140 gold
One army at 30 gold (1st Army): 30 gold
One fleet at 130 gold (5th fleet): 130 gold
TOTAL: 500 gold (hopefully)
[Rules check: the rules are a bit sparse in terms of unit movement coverage; how fast can armies move over land, and how much territory can a single army be expected to cover? I think my deployments are fairly reasonable, but some of the border coverage is definitely stretching it thin; if you rule that I've deployed my armies to cover too wide an area, then assume that they're covering a smaller interior region and not covering the entire border right at its edge.
Also, how exactly does air power work? Since only artillery has a bombardment system written in the rules, do fighters and bombers simply function as ground units with different rules for range and transport?]
uknemesis May 20, 2002, 05:44 PM You're right, fighters and bombers need more advantages, so I'll add some now. They are now posted on the front page along with the rules for transports in battle and naval and air combat.
Air and naval transports can move troops around very quickly during peacetime, and troops themselves(infantry is equipped with APCs) can move around quickly enough that no movement rules are required, I just need to know what you will defend each area with.
However, if a nation declares a blockade around a colony etc, then each reinforcements on top of what was already there must fight their way in.
Oh, and your sums add up nicely!

But now, finally, Russia was rich, wealthy and happy. 500 units of gold in the treasuries was enough to build the meagre beginnings of a new Grand Russian Army.

Toasty May 21, 2002, 01:33 PM Von Hindenburg read his Berliner Zeitung newspaper. He flipped back the pages to a certain article he was intent on reading about. It would appear that there was something cooking in Holland.
Atrocities In France: What the Police There Are and Aren't Doing.
By Lügner Schändliche
Amsterdam, French Netherlands seems to be the site of many recent happenings in prejudice and hate crimes against the German-related Dutch. With a rash of anti-German sentiment that came with the Versailles lapse, the French seem to be solving the President's inactivity in the streets.
Holland, which had for years been regarded as a veritable client-state of Germany, was annexed by the French two years ago in 1933. While at first peaceful, massive emigration was promoted by the French government and a great deal of the formerly near-pure Dutch population is made up of Frenchmen (rounded to 32%).
In one instance, children were seen throwing stones last Sunday at a Protestant church in Utrecht. The police were reportedly called by the priest, but failed to show face.
The hatred for the Protestant church in Holland does not begin nor end with Children. Gretchen DeKuiper of Deventer, a wife for 23 years and a mother of 2 was used for a human clapper after ringing the Protestant church's bells to alert the town as a Dutch man was being killed, also after police had again did not make an appearance. Her husband, Froyd DeKuiper, has fled to Cologne in the German Rhineland. The children, now two college girls, were reportedly raped and killed by a French nationalist.
Not only have the police failed to act, but they have acted with the French vigilantes repeatedly. In Middelburg, the capital of the Zeeland province, an unprovoked police raid on a Dutch family's home resulted in the killing of both parents, the family children, and their pet Toy Yorkie.
All this has been met with silence from the French President. These countless incidents not only go unaddressed but also without condemnation. If the French government will not act, this reporter believes it is the obligation of our republic to act for the Dutch, as they obviously cannot under such brutal oppression.
This cannot go unwarranted as the French authority is letting it. I call on von Hundenburg, von Paten, and every other government official to save the innocent lives that are being destroyed by the decadent French.
We have no friends in France. We only have drunkards, rapists and nationalists. We cannot stand idly by while this continues.
We should march into Amsterdam, and then to Paris to force this to an end.
* * *
Hindenburg put down the paper, his face pale and shocked.
He called in his secretary, Fraulein Isabeau Fried to prepare two memos: one to the French president and another to the armed forces.

Dexter May 21, 2002, 02:04 PM A News Broadcast By The French President
People Of France,
Today is a day of change and reform. Over the previous years you have suffered from a weak police force, poor teaching and even poorer health care. That is why I won this election because you told the Socialist Freedom party that they haven't done enough.
My ministers are putting into act police reforms to rout out corrupt police officers and put more police on the streets. We hope that this will prevent such scenes as we saw in the Netherlands, such acts of horrendous violence cannot be tolerated and disgrace our countries fine people.
Now on to the health service problems. Our government wants to give a long term solution not a short term one. We want a solution which benefits the entire country. So we shall begin with 10% pay rises for staff and the building of new up to date modern hospitals. Unfortunately this means that you as a taxpayer shall need to pay out more, although this minor tax re-adjustment is all for a good cause. France must have a top quality health service to proceed into the future.
Education reforms will be much the same as Health reforms. Pay rises of 8% for teachers and the opening of new schools.
We shall also make it free for a highly able pupil to enter a state University. Education is the foundation of the next generation, let's make the next generation an educated one!
My friends today I have announced the blueprint on which this Government shall be based, all these reforms shall take time but have patience and they shall reap you massive rewards.
Thank-you
To: Chancellor Paul Hindenburg
From: President Phillipe Henry
Subj: Friendship
My friend, I read of a certain article in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper, Atrocities In France: What the Police There Are and Aren't Doing. I would like you to know that under my new police reforms such things as this article talks about shall never happen again. I hope that you shall look beyond this over-exaggerted journalism and listen to sense, with the war over a new Europe has been born. In this Europe only the toughest and richest nations can live on. Our eternal friendship will seal that our nations can grow side by side and in peace.
Yours,
President Phillipe Henry, Servant Of The French People
Toasty May 21, 2002, 02:23 PM To: President Phillippe Henry
From: Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg
Sucj: Re: Friendship
Hah! You speak of a stronger police force, then what? They assist your uncontrollable French nationalist imports more in their horrendous hate crimes? Nothing can solve the pure corruption of your facilities in the Netherlands except their expulsion and a plebecite.
I call for a plebecite for Holland to become independent, join Germany or stay with France. In the event that France should refuse the Dutch right to self-determination (which they appear to as the Dutch are only second-class citizens in France), then Germany will have to support it, whether it be political, monetary or otherwise.
Europe is fine as it is; we need the strong to be strong and prove themselves worthy of exsistence. A country that cannot defend itself has no right to exsist.
The plebecite would be determined by die: i.e., 1 or 2 they stay with France, 3 or 4 they join Germany, 5 or 6 they become independent. I think it is fair.
Dexter May 21, 2002, 02:38 PM To: Chancellor Paul Hindenburg
From: President Phillipe Henry
Subj: Plebiscite
We accept your offer of a plebiscite, my only objection would be the idea of Netherlands joining Germany. We would rather have it they were independant or part of a fair and equal French society. If you really do care so much for the Netherlands then I'm sure you will agree to this deal, right?
Yours,
President Phillipe Henry
The die would work with 1 or 2 meaning it stays with France and 3, 4, 5 or 6 then it becomes independant. Uknemesis shall do the dice rolling.

Dear Mr. President,
as you may remember both our countries stayed neutral in the last great war and we gained much from:you could unite with your Scandinavian fellows and got Argentine,Uruguay,Paraguay and Chile. We became control of the other parts of South America like Colombia or Peru.
But in these provinces of our Brazilian Union there recently have been riotings by some rebels, only because we´ve made Portuguese the official language.I know you´ve the same problems,in Finland as here in America with your beautiful language Swedish.
Would you consider a MPP against internal and outward enemies,so we can work together to control these Spanish-speaking bastards?
My best regards,
President Gustavo Bergero
Toasty May 21, 2002, 02:43 PM The reason the Dutch might consider joining Germany as opposed to being independant is because of their long history of cooperation and cultural relation to Germany. wilboman May 21, 2002, 03:17 PM "Hmm... Europe looks to be poised on the brink of a new conflict over the French Netherlands. Tha's not good. I'm not expecting a second world war until I feel well and truly ready. Send the two fighters a dispatch to the effect that we will support any results of a free and unadulterated election, and would be happy to send election observers."
Nicolay Alexandrovich was surveying his troop positions as he spoke on the phone with his Foreign Minister. Romanov loved looking at the setup in the war room. The huge maps and little regimental pieces reminded him of his childhood days, playing about with toy soldiers.
"The swedes have a new leader you say? Max what? Oh, Gustaf. Nice name. Nice, aristocratic name. And a solid hold on power too, hm? I like that in a leader. Send him a letter too."
Nicolay picked up two tanks, memorising their positions, and in the middle of the Indian ocean he started playing a little battle, moving them around, making small *pouf* sounds when he fired, and finally tilting one over on it's back signifying that it had died, all the while chatting absentmindedly with his Minister on the phone. The Foreign Minister, obviously finished with todays report, asked the customary questions for orders and the like, and politely hung up.
"Ah, well." Romanov sighed. "Reality calls. Time to write some letters, I guess..."
Carefully, the Russian Premier put his "toys" back in place, before walking to the adjoining door to his office, shutting the lights as he went through the door. A nagging fear was at the back of gis mind. The Lord only knew when he might feel so at ease again.
To: The peaceful and democratic leaders of France and Germany
We in Russia have noticed the friction in Europe with some apprehension. We sincerely hope bloodshed may be avoided in this matter, but make it abundantly clear that if war is announced over the Netherlands, we may see fit to join the side of the offended (read: attacked) party, be it a new state, France or Germany.
We are very fully in support of the idea of a plebecite, and volunteer to send neutral observers to see to it that the elctions proceed in the proper manner. Russia will also fully support the outcome of such elections.
To Max Gustaf of Sweden
Hail, neighbour! As you were one of the countries wise enough to stay out of the last, great war, I assume that you are a peace-loving nation, as are we, now that we have doffed the mantles of both Feudal and Bolshevik oppression.
I extend our hand in friendship, and wonder if you may wish to discuss trade, ROP, and MPP treaties with the "Russian Bear?"

Kwansn May 21, 2002, 06:30 PM I'll take Japan!
As the rule of the elected leader was about to come to an end in 1934 there were many who wanted to succeed him. A fierce political struggle began in Japan as each party gathered as many loyalists around them as they could. The situation got worse and worse and finally in May of the same year, one week before the election, civil war erupted. It was a very bloody war with alliances shifting all the time and no real end in sight. And then, when it seemed that all hope of peace was lost, one man emerged and took over control. Altough noone will ever really know what happened, it is said that he managed to silence all opposition in just one night and then called for a truce between the leader- and aimless parties. His proposal, that he would be the new leader of the Japanese Empire, was accepted unanimously and in 1935 he was proclaimed Emperor Kwan-Sn, Ruler of the Rising Sun.

The Iranian people are angered at the cowardly attack upon the honorable Italian President and yearn for justice! Know that Iran will back any peaceful effort by Italy to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
However, this is not an excuse for war! Iran cannot tolerate aggressors on her borders that would march off to conquer at the drop of a hat, and should Italy or her allies cross the border into Greece, the Iranian military will support our neighbors' attempts to defend their homeland!

Radio Declaration to the World
Hear me, peoples of Iran and of the world! Our people have long hoped that peace, obtained only after so long a time at such dear a price, might remain intact, and that our sons and daughters might not need endure the hardships we burdened ourselves with in our time. But now I see that is not to be.
A terrible attack was perpetrated upon the Italian president earlier this month, and we have only God--regardless of which name you call Him by--to thank that the esteemed Mr. de Atalanta is still alive today, as He has seen fit in His wisdom that the president has not come time to be reckoned yet and so should stay on this mortal Earth to guide his people. But Mr. de Atalanta himself is not so forgiving, and now has shown his true face--the face of war! Justice must be served, but the justice of battleships and of tanks is no justice at all! Iran continues to support peaceful efforts to bring the Greek terrorists--who cannot be regarded as anything but self-serving madmen acting in their own interest alone--to justice, and gladly endorses the Brazilian blockade of Greek Africa. But I cannot regard the Italian and Swedish armies' attempt at occupying Greek soil as anything but an act of craven conquest, and the Iranian army and air force will support Greece in her attempts to repel these foreign imperialists.
Earlier today, the Iranian Parliament voted in majority in favor of war against Italy and Sweden. We can only hope that the peace wrung these past few years after such terrible fighting may yet prove to be an enduring one in the years to come--but for the moment, we must fight, to prove to the world that these acts of aggression cannot be tolerated. May Allah help us all.

We realize that your countries are still in political unrest, and anxiously await the day when the Greek and Egyptian peoples may elect new leaders to help lead them to a new destiny. However, though the yoke of foreign imperialism has only just been lifted from our peoples' shoulders, already there are those that would attempt to impose it once again. I invite representatives from both your nations to meet at a conference in Baghdad, where we can discuss the possibility of a mutual protection pact. United we can defend our nations from all those who would seek to return us to imperial slavery!

All of you, please update your deployments with your latest orders underneath them for ease of use.
And when the new turn comes, please post your deployments once more. Then keep the orders beneath those armies up to date till the end of that week, and so on.
This means that I should rarely have to go back more than 5 pages to find the latest orders and deployments for everyone, and is also easy for the players, only having to write a long post once a week.
Trade is allowed, just it doesn't give you any extra gold or anything.
AND CHANGE OF RULES, I WILL ALLOW PMING EACH OTHER TO MAKE ALLIANCES, BUT THE RESULTS OF IT MUST BE POSTED HERE! AND IF YOU PLAN ATTACKS VIA PMS, THE ATTACK MUST BE POSTED HERE BEFORE SATURDAY! NO PMING ME WITH THE ATTACKS, THEY MUST BE POSTED HERE!
Oh, and attacks ordered on the Saturday will be carried over into the next week's combat instead, to prevent people attacking at the last minute before someone can react.
250 gold is fine, IceEye, I've calculated it should take on average 5 turns to build 100 units, the max you can have. Money after that can only be used to replace losses.

We would like to offer you our friendship and maybe you would agree that we coordinate our naval movements in the SouthChineseSea to fight off pirate attacks. It seems that due to our recent political crisis in Japan, raiders have taken the opportunity to harrass our merchant fleet. I have to confess that my fleet is currently unable to resolve this matter, as many ships have been destroyed during the civil war. They will be joined by the 7th Royal Iranian Air Squadron, if Greece will allow Iran use of Greek airbases; otherwise, the 7th will join the 6th Air Squadron defending the Suez Canal and eastern Mediterranean from attack (unless Egypt objects to Iranian use of her airspace). The 5th Royal Iranian Fleet, supported by the 8th Air Squadron, will continue defending the Arabian coast, Persian gulf, and now additionally the Red Sea. To summarise:

3rd Iranian Army, reinforcing Greek 1st Army in its defense:

4th Iranian Army, reinforcing Greek 1st Army in its defense:

5th Iranian Fleet, defending northwestern Indian Ocean:

Dexter May 23, 2002, 09:19 AM Interview From French Tribunal And President Henry:
The French parliament seems to be uneasy about your willingness to let the Netherlandsd become a free country, they feel you have been far too easily pressured into it by the German Chancellor Paul Hindenburg. What are your feelings on this?
Well as you might know myself and Mr. Hindenburg have been unable to come to an agreement over this dispute. The idea was to hold a referendum to decide on wether the Netherlands should remain a part of France or become Independant, unfortunately this idea was not accepted by Chancellor Hindenburg. Thus I have decided to post-pone the referendum until an agreement can be reached. Then hopefully we can give the Dutch people the chance to determine their future.
This all sounds good for the Dutch people, but what about French people living in the Netherlands, after-all they account for 46% of the Dutch population?
This is another trickey problem which will need to be accounted for, an idea is to allow them to vote aswell in the referendum because after all they are part of the Dutch people.
Okay, now we shall move onto another pressing matter. The current state of the health service. We are now two years into your reign as president and so far the public have only seen a slight improvement, it is going to need much more to bring us up to date...
Well like I've said before, our solution is a long term plan and will take time to implement fully. Although like you said their has been an improvement and that is a sign of progress.
Well thank-you Mr.President for your time.

uknemesis May 23, 2002, 10:18 AM In my books, there was no attack, just a threat. Unless combat orders remain until Saturday night, there is no combat.
Also, fighting orders must be ordered before Friday night/Saturday morning to be resolved that turn, but stop fighting orders can be given right the way up to the end of the turn.
End fighting means exactly that, there is no fighting. If you want to be able to fight Greece, then you must commit troops to it, and a declaration of peace must be postponed until after the combat result.
Also, Brazil, your blockade of Greek Africa may be challenged by the Greek Navy. I suggest you pull out or face war.(This is me controlling Greece like I have to).

"Not to mention suave and clever diplomacy on your part, great Premier. Without our clout, who knows what might have happened?"
"You flatter me. The world moves at it's own good pace, and if a foreign power wishes to go berserk, no amount of wheeling and dealing from my part could have stopped them. This whole mess is just another piece of proof of how war is the final extension of diplomacy... What's happening, anyway?"
"Well, sir, the NKVD reports are sketchy and confusing at best, but it looks like the invasion force is leaving. The Swedes and Italians, and even, I think, the Greeks, say there were no encounters, but Intelligence is not so sure to date..."
Toasty May 23, 2002, 01:09 PM The Chancellor sighed. What a relief. The Italian people had overran their president and ended the war--the Swedish and Brazilians still followed. However, he was still a bit concerned...
The bloackade was inappropriate and in violation of international law. The only nation who could legitimately blockade Greece was Spain; yet, Brazil and Sweden had taken it upon themselves to blockade the Strait of Gibraltar in flagrant disregard of both Greece and Spain's sovreignty.
M. Phillippe Henry was moving to the evasive side with the plebiscite in the Netherlands. Why shouldn't the Dutch people have the choice of joining their German cousins? It seemed completely reasonable to von Hindenburg, and according to his agents, a good deal of the Dutch people.
Not only that, but the French government was releasing propaganda that the Dutch only made up 46% of the population, while in fact it was closer to 65% (32% French and 3% were of other nationalities), according to the 1935 census. Not only that, but the province had been Dutch--only by synthesized emigration had it become even that 32% French.
As Hindenburg pondered the situation, he began to hear the cameras clicking in the press room. The German head General, Fredreich von Paten, was making a press release.
---
"The German people may breathe a sigh of relief tonight. The Italians have completely backed out of their attempts on Greek punishment. As both the Venice Pact and we have stated, there is no longer a need for war. I hope that answers your query, Fritz."
"General! General!"
"Yes, Marianne?"
"As you now know, the French president Phillippe Henry has refused to hold the plebiscite for the Dutch people after Chancellor von Hindenburg pushed for joining Germany as being an option in the polls. How does the government of the German republic respond, and what military options is the military considering?"
The general paused for a moment to think. "We in the military most certainly hope that blood will not flow between the civilized nations of France and Germany again. However, the French president's unsupported refusal of a plebiscite where the Dutch may join Germany does not leave us many options. The German government plans to push for this diplomatically as much as possible, and will have exhausted all other resources to allow the Dutch their choice before taking any sort of military action."
The Berlin Zeitung reporter who wrote the first article on the atrocities in the French Netherlands, Lügner Schändliche, was called on.
"Now that the Brazilians and Swedish are enforcing a blockade of Greece in the strait of Gibraltar, what actions are the government considering?"
"We feel that the blockade is uncalled for, especially with the fact that it was Italy and not Sweden nor Brazil that was effected by the so-called 'terrorist act'. As the Chancellor has already said, we believe these are 'quasi-democratic' nations serving their own imperialist interests and not actually acting to uproot 'terrorism' in Greece. We hope that these nations will reconsider and stop this escapade."
With that, the general had to end his press conference to meet with his staff. It was reported to be urgent.

We are deeply saddened by the President's unwillingness to cooperate. It seems perfectly legitimate that the Dutch people should have their choice in creating their own nation or becoming a part of Germany.
We will suggest this: 1 or 2, stay with France; 3, join Germany; 4, 5, or 6 Holland becomes its own nation.
uknemesis May 23, 2002, 01:10 PM Right, I've reworked the deployments of the neutral nations(if someone joins as them before Saturday, they can scratch my deployments and buy their own units, and when I do the weekly additions to the neutrals, they can change those for the week they join, but not previous weeks).
Ignore the bit about the Greek aircraft carrier, as Greece doesn't have one.
Deployments for neutrals will be posted soon.
Oh, and Britain fully supports Greece, MI6 has confirmed that the terrorists were from the Greek colony, but actually trained by another organisation or country, definetly not Greece. Greece had no involvement.
As for the anti-country groups within the country, Greek people have a right to free speech, however, some groups have been found to be attempting to beat up nationals in Greece. Harsh police force has been used to stop them, and all racist groups in Greece are now under arrest, and will be dealt with harshly. Those wanted by other nations will be extradited.
The Interior and Agriculture Ministers are old men who fought for their country in the last few decades of the Great War of the last hundred years. They are entitled to their opinion about the world, but they are peaceful pensioners, nothing more. MI6 also confirms this, that they have had no contact with any known troublemakers, and that they have not acted suspiciously at all.
Greece blames Brazil, Sweden and Italy for troublemaking, but thanks Italy for its withdrawal.
Now, with the naval might of Britain behind it, Greece stands ready to challenge the blockades.

As leader of the Iranian people, I must express my immense relief that the Greek catastrophe was averted before it came to open war. It is regrettable that plans for the attack were allowed to proceed as long as they did, but this is a time to be thankful, not to point fingers.
Nevertheless, this is no excuse to relax our vigilance. Iran and the rest of the free nations of the world must always be ready to stand up to the pressures of foreign imperialism whenever they threaten the right of a sovereign people to govern themselves free from fear of foreign influence or even invasion. This dispute has been thankfully avoided without necessitating armed conflict, but it cannot be guaranteed that all leaders in the future will be as reasonable as President de Atalanta, and we must be prepared to commit troops wherever they're needed to protect those nations that foreign imperialists would seek to subjugate and conquer.
---
The Iranian armies are ordered back to their original positions. Though we cannot be sure that Greece is completely safe and would have liked to commit a police force until it has been established that Greece's borders were at last secure, our armies are needed back home to help smooth over internal friction--our intelligence reports some mild danger from Iraqi nationalists, and investigations continue over possible links between the terrorists indicted by Greece's probe; Iran in no way claims any responsibility for the acts perpetrated by this group, but Greece's crackdown presents valuable counter-terrorism opportunities at home and abroad.

Toasty May 24, 2002, 10:14 PM ARTICLE FROM THE BERLIN ZEITUNG NEWSPAPER:
Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg Dies; National Mourning Day Declared, von Hotzendorf To Be Successor.
By Olaf Heinz-Folkert
It has been a sad, sad day for the German Republic and her people. The senior Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg died today in his sleep, presumably from old age. The chancellor, whome had lead the German republic since its creation in 1919, was said to have seemed healthy and normal before going to bed that night.
The widowed Frau Hindenburg said between her tears, "Germany has lost one of its greatest men. We will all miss our gentle giant of a Chancellor."
Gothart von Hotzenforf, aged 62, the governer of Ostmark and a fellow "Free People's Conservative Party" member was named successor by the Reichstag this morning with a vote of 323 to 177, demonstrating the success of Conservatism in recent years for Germany. His "German Socialist Party" opponent, Rainart Heidelsdt, recieved 34 votes in favor of him when he was put up for election.
Chancellor Gothart von Hotzendorf has been said to be further to the right that the late Chancellor von Hindenburg; his acceptance speech seemed to be one that confirmed Germany's place as a great power of the right-wing. It has put many of the left-wing socialists in fear of retribution and a path that, in the words of Heidelsdt, "could lead to the destruction of all Hindenburg had worked for."
"Today, Germany stands on the brink of a new era; the great Chancellor von Hindenburg lead Germany through its dark years. I shall now carry the torch that his hand had so bodly clasped in the names of humanity, sovreignty, and freedom out of the cave that once was Versailles."
When asked about his stance on the Netherlands crisis, Chancellor von Hotzendorf merely replied that "we shall do whatever it takes to secure that the Dutch have every right a German citizen does, whether they be their own nation or a German one."
It is this writer's opinion that Germany has suffered a great loss of its benevolent titan militarist. However, von Hotzenforf will lead Germany to the greatness she deserves through the forces of conservatism and democracy. He will undoubtedly become one of the great leaders in German history and should be recognized as such.
A funeral march is to be held in a fortnight for the late Chancellor von Hindenburg. The leaders from Greece, Iran, Russia and Japan have been cordially invited to participate with von Hotzendorf. All other leaders are welcome to attend.
wilboman May 25, 2002, 03:00 AM To the new German leader, Gothart von Hotzenforf

The Editor of the Anti-French propanganda Berlin Zeitung is sacked and a new neutral editor is given the job. The sacked Editor must then write France an official apology.
I feel that for Chancellor Hindenburg to base his entire policy on the Netherlands around one news report given by an already proven anti-French propanganda newspaper is ridiculous.
I hope that we can work together and that this arguement can finally be settled.
Yours,
President Phillipe Henry
Pieter Theron May 25, 2002, 05:38 AM I, Jan van Riebeeck, am declaring myself the ruler and King of Britain. I envite all peace-loving nations to sign an accord with Britian to ensure peace in Europe and the rest of the world.
Also: I am purchasing the following to build up my military:
7 tank regiments at 105 gold
7 Infantry regiments at 70 gold
3 Artillery regiments of at 60 gold
3 Paratrooper regiments at 50 gold
1 Transport aircraft wing at 10 gold
1 Aircraft carrier at 50 gold
3 battleships at 75 gold
2 Destroyers at 20 gold
2 submarines at 20 gold
2 transports at 100 gold
Total spent: 497 gold
Also, after my military has been acquired I am sending the 1st Army, composed of 4 Infantry regiments and 4 tank regiments to annex the area of South Africa and to join it to the Kingdom of Britain.
As there is no leader for South Africa, and its residents are in dire need for ruling, I do not expect more troops are needed to conqure the area.

Britain is anxious to have diplomatic relations with your country. Therefore we are sending a diplomatic convoy to your capitol to discuss the possibility of opening an British Embassy there.
Also, we would like to sign an African Peace Accord. If Britain succeeds in annexing Southern Africa, I would like Iran to be the first nation to sign this pack with Britian. This will merely say that Iran will not try to invade British terrain in Africa.
Hope that we will have good relations.
Is it true that you might have a State Visit to South Africa in September. My sources say this. Please reply to notify if this will happen.

Kwansn May 25, 2002, 07:01 AM To: King Jan van Riebeeck I. of Britain
Emperor Kwan-Sn greets you, King Jan van Riebeeck I. and extends his hands in friendship. Nevertheless there is an issue that surely will prevent peace between our empires, namely your planned attack on South Africa, which is a sovereignty. There is no reason for you to attack them, so reconsider. Besides We think your 1st Army will not stand a chance against the combined South African forces. We urge you in the name of peace to recall your forces, otherwise Japan will be forced to declare war upon you.
Yours, Emperor Kwan-Sn
To: The rest of the world
My friends, it seems that yet another crisis has arisen. I need your help to convice Britain that a few lands are not worth to risk another World War.
Yours, Emperor Kwan-Sn
uknemesis May 25, 2002, 07:25 AM I am sorry, Mr. Riebeeck, but you are sadly mistaken if you think one army will crush the South Africans. We are an independent and neutral nation, and although we have not yet elected a new leader unlike most other nations, we can still defend ourselves.
If you try to invade, you will be met with fierce retaliation.
Outgoing President of South Africa
By the way, your sums add up to 560 gold! Also, how can you get 497 gold buying things which end with 5s and 0s?!
And your army needs to be arranged into groups, see how others have done it earlier in the thread.
And welcome to the game! :)

uknemesis May 25, 2002, 07:36 AM RULE CHANGE
Right everyone, you must private message to me your new buys, new deployments and new orders today or tomorrow.
On Wednesday you have the opportunity to change orders and deployments, but not buys, in another PM to me.
Then on that Saturday I shall post any combat reports, and then you can begin to send me the new deployments etc for that week.
Thanks Kwansn, I already have yours for this week.
So for example:
This Sat/Sun, South Africa(which isn't playing yet, but if it did have a player) sends me their latest buys, deployments and orders. They have no attack orders in it.
On Wednesday, they send me a new PM, detailing new orders, with attack orders as they have now gone to war. On Saturday I post the combat reports from this week, and then they begin to send me their latest buys/deployments/orders again, and so on.
Any questions? Please PM me your latest deployments, including the spending for the new 250 gold.
And I've decided that anyone join up until Friday, they can still spend all 750 gold, not have to accept my buys for that nation.

Who on earth has the balls to think he can conquer South Africa just like that anyway?! And the game was just getting fun, too. I'm afraid we'll have to postpone this for a later date, Mischa. The game that is diplomacy takes precedence over the game that is chess..."
Carefully, Romanov lifted the board aside to a small coffee table and stood up, thanking Mischa Gorbachev, his vice president, for a good game, and showed him out.
Time to get diplomatic on the British heinies...'
To the British King Riebeeck
Have you slept through your recent history lessons?
The world, and your country, has been embroiled in devastating war for a hundred years! South Africa, just like any other country in this world, is a free and sovereign modern nation, which has crawled forth from the ruins and ashes to try and piece together a new existence from the remains of the holocaust.
Anyone, I repeat ANYONE who tries to disrupt this peace by attacking another nation, will have me to contend with, and probably also any other country in the civilized world. Just look at what happened to the Venice Pact during the Greek Crisis.
Please leave your threats as just that, a threat, or we will be forced to declare war on you.
P.s: I'm afraid your intelligence is mistaken. It is I, Romanov, who will be accompanying a joint delegation together with five others to South Africa, come autumn.
I hope and pray there is still a free South Africa then too.
To the countries that were on my side during the Greek Crisis
I see with much sadness that a neutral country has once again come under attack due to another country's greed. I hope, indeed know, that you will join me and Japan in condemning this act, and forcing Britain to abandon any pretence of aggression before we all suffer the consequences.
To the nations of the Venice Pact
Although we had our differences over the question about Greece's involvement in the attack on Italy's president, I pray you will aid us in putting pressure on Britain, who, unlike you, is attacking South Africa purely out of greed.
May we cooperate well on this and future issues.
OOC: Uknemesis: I'm probably being really stupid here, but if we PM you these things, do you want us to post our decisions in the thread as well, so that some of us don't pull another "let's gang up on the weak guy in secret" stunt, or how should we do it?
uknemesis May 25, 2002, 10:08 AM All PMs between players that result in a decision must be posted here. Attacks must be as well.
But actual orders and deployments are hidden from now on, only known to me via the PMs, and not revealable to anyone(no Secret Service)
Nemesis
uknemesis May 25, 2002, 11:27 AM Well due to the game getting a bit boring because of no real action, I have decided to include a few situations:
The Egyptian ambassador signed on the dotted line, and the South African President smiled.
It would be a glorious war.
Now, once the buying period is over(finishes tomorrow night, I have three or four people's buying orders now), then I will reveal their plans.
No orders or deployments may be changed after tomorrow night until Wednesday, and then none again until the buying and orders of Sat/Sun.
So if I announce the war on Monday, you can react on Wednesday, and battle results on Saturday, followed by more buying and orders that weekend, and so on.

Pardon me M. Henry, but the Berlin Zeitung is firsty not an anti-French propaganda newspaper, and secondly it is a private business! The paper is run by a private owner, and therefore the German government has no influence over it. Furthermore, any such action as those stated by yourself would be nothing but the worst of infringments on German civil liberties!
We cannot comply to your requests both because it is a vile attack on freedom and because of our incapacity to do so even if it were the policy of the German government.
"I feel that for Chancellor Hindenburg to base his entire policy on the Netherlands around one news report given by an already proven anti-French propanganda newspaper is ridiculous."
Quite frankly, M. President, I am disgusted by this statement so befouling of the good name of Hindenburg in that you not only slandered him so but that you wated until after his death to say such. "The Russian Premier has returned from his state visit to South Africa, where he and the other delegates were met with cheers by the natives for the support in the recent dispute with Great Britain. The state visit is now concluded satisfactorily, despite an assassination attempt made by Tadsjik terrorists. The perpetrators have been caught and will be tried shortly, and the Premier has announced a programme to root out all terrorist groups within his borders and put a stop to their operations. More on this case to follow."
"I thought the South African government seemed strangely indifferent, even cold, towards us. This is odd. One would think that they might be more cordial, given the fact that we helped them in the face of an impending threat..." Romanov knocked back a shot-glass of vodka. "Very odd. And those terrorists? Funny that NKVD has never heard of that particular group before. They can't possibly be training anywhere inside the motherland!"
"Funny you should mention that, sir," Leonid Andronov mused. "Our sources in Africa indicate that they must have had help from inside. I don't know what to make of it, but it seems like Africa may prove to be a problem in the future."
"Hmm. Maybe you are right, director. Well, if they do, we're ready for them!"

It is with deepest regret that I must inform you that I will be missing the funeral ceremonies of Germany's late Chancellor von Hindenburg. Truly he was a great man, and it is a great tragedy indeed for Germany and the world to have lost such a leader. Iran knows the Germans to be a fair and just people and thank them and their leader for their efforts in attempting to keep the world safe from the evils of imperialistic conquest. Unfortunately this is a battle which has no end, and we must remain vigilant to the last; the situation in Africa is becoming more and more tense, and we must keep our guard up for whatever may occur.

From The London Times, Sunday, 26 May 2002-05-26

A bloodless revolution in Britain has resulted in the end of the British Monarchy. Yesterday the British Police and Civil Forces, under command of Prime Minister Hjalmar Mitchell, stormed Winsor Castle and arrested King Van Riebeeck. The rest of the Royal Family were stripped of their titles and escorted from the palace.
Adressing the nation shortly afterwards, Mitchell declared himself president of the Republic of Britain, ending one of the world’s oldest monarchies. Mitchell appointed Herbert Kitchener as his vice-president and Sir Winston Churchill as his Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“I vow to restore the respect the British government had before Van Riebeeck succeeded to the throne”, Mitchell said. The new president also made it clear that Britain has CANCELED its planned “South African campaign” and that Britain will never attack South Africa.
Mitchell will announce the rest of his cabinet ministers on Friday. He said that the new government will consist of a President and Vice-president with a Cabinet and Parliament, as well as a House of Representitives, representing the different provinces.
Mitchell plans an emergency state visit to Egypt, to try to restore peace between the two nations. Minister Churchill will be sent to South Africa to apologise to the South African peo

Hindenburg Funeral March Takes Place in Berlin But Overlying Tones of War Rain On the Parade
By Reiner Wolfcastle
Today in Berlin the final rest for Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg was made. The funeral march, which stretched over 2 miles long, included the Japanese emperor Kwan-Sn and Premier Romanov who rode with Chancellor Gothart von Hotzendorf in the leading black Rolls Royce. The widowed Frau Hindenburg
rode in the hearse.
The whole nation weeps today but not only for their fallen Chancellor. The advent of war on the horizon, as seen by the Egyptian-South African plans against French and German colonies, has been severely hitting on the heads of the German people.
It is sorrowful that the German Chancellor's funeral should be so eclipsed. We hope that in due time, both Hindenburg and the war will be resolved.

My friend the Dutch people have spoken and have decided to remain as a part of France. We are glad that this was settled in a fair and diplomatic way.
Now for the problems in Africa. I feel that co-operation between our two nations is the best way to conquer this problem. Tomorrow I shall hold an emergency cabinet meeting with my Generals and top ministers to decide on any neccessary action.
I hope that together we can prevent this threat from two obviously aggressive nations.

WarlordMatt May 27, 2002, 10:40 AM The skies above the Red Sea were unusually filled with black clouds. An Egyptian merchant on his small steamer noticed this. Only five seconds later four huge Chinese battleships came hurtling over the horizon at top speed, their smokestacks streaming black smoke. The startled merchant ordered his captain to turn the ship around, and he suddenly remembered the Chinese were allied with the enemy Germans. He scowled at the Chinese metal monsters, their huge guns seeming to turn on his tiny steam vessel..........

wilboman May 27, 2002, 01:52 PM Dispatch from the Russian Foreign Department to the paranoid president Mitchell of GB
I've just spoken to my head of the NKVD, and he says that, with all due respect, any claim of Russian espionage toward the Brits is bulls***.
If you take a close look at those microphones you purportedly found, you should notice that they are hopelessly outdated and completely disconnected from any power source or recieving device. This is because they are from the last war!
The KGB had them planted in order to allow the Bolsheviks to monitor the British troop movements, and, since the beginning of democracy in this country, the have been disconnected and allowed to fall into disrepair, as it was considered to risky to attempt to remove them. This would have necessitated the answering of some rather unpleasant questions.
The hope was, of course, that noone would notice them, and that by the time someone did, it would be so long after and they would be so useless it wouldn't matter.
Anyway. That's the explanation for you. If it bugs you that at one point we did sy on you, I'm sorry, but fact is, we don't anymore.
As it is now, all I can do is apologise for the distress and trouble this may have caused for you and your cabinet.

OOC: Unless uknemesis actually posts that a Russian espionage mission has been caught in Britain, it never happened, or, at least, you never found out about it. Therefore you can always accuse someone of espionage, but everyone else will know it is groundless, and if you go to war over such an accusation, you may well find yourself fighting on your own!

uknemesis May 27, 2002, 05:07 PM The Egyptian and Greek Presidents would like to remind the British President that he was not in power when the secret war on Greece was almost declared by Italy. Therefore, they have decided to take action to stop Italy ever trying such an act again, unless too many nations declare it an act of war upon them, so many that America and South Africa's entry into the war couldn't keep it balanced. In that case, Egypt and Greece would cancel the invasion.

Now onto OOC:
Peiter, there is no spying in this game like there was in my last NES, so if you want to accuse someone of spying, go ahead, you just won't have any proof to back it up, as there will be no true game concept of spying.
If you want daily headlines or something like Das is doing in his new NES to keep the game moving, then I will.
Here's an example of them, and todays if you like:
FRANCE WINS THE WORLD CUP, GERMANY ACCUSES THEM OF CHEATING

PIRATES IN THE INDIAN OCEAN, NATIONS BLAME EACH OTHER
A recent rise in piracy in the Indian Ocean has prompted outrage from the nations with Oceanic and South Asian holdings. Many suspect each other of funding the pirates. British shipping is safe currently only due to heavy escorts, but they are increasingly coming under attack. French ships seem to be under attack as well, and have taken to riding in the convoys with British shipping. German ships currently seem to be completely safe.
Japan is using her navy to guard her shipping, and currently has managed to destroy one pirate's haven.
Britain and France accuse Germany of funding the pirates, but the Germans accuse the British and French of staging attacks upon their own shipping to incriminate Germany. France denies this, pointing to evidence that they have lost more ships in the Indian Ocean than anyone else. Japan believes that the ships may be staging out of Spanish holdings, as the Spanish allow all ships entry to their ports.
That okay? And if you start trying to attack Spain, well, we'll leave it until the end of the week to see if Dazer comes back, if not then I will take control of them as a neutral nation.

"The Powers of Europe should have no enclave in our hemisphere. The nations of Canada, the United States, and Brazil represent the American nations, and this hemisphere should be reserved for them."
The President continued, saying that the United States was committed to peace. He said that the only way to ensure that peace in the western hemisphere was to expel the "foreign influence".
The speech continued, outlining the Presiednt's plans for economic reform, and the major slash in governmental departments and functions. These plans are said to decrease the federal budget by some 4 billion dollars, according to the President. Opponents of his plan were quick to criticize, saying the programs he plans to cut would leave millions without governmental aid, from welfare and housing cuts.

PRESIDENT SIGNS MUTUAL PROTECTION PACTS WITH BRAZIL, CANADA, AMERICAN ALLIANCE FORMED.
Toronto, Ontario - President Cain met today with Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada and President (OOC: hope that's your title) Bergero of Brazil to sign the protection pacts creating the American Alliance. The signatories of this alliance are all the states mentioned by President Cain in his controversial speech of last year.

8'TH AIRBORNE REGIMENT DROPS INTO PANAMA TO FIGHT REBELS.
Colon, Panama - Colon, a key rebel stronghold in American Panama today was attacked by the U.S. 8'th Airborne Regiment with support from the USS Constellation from the Golfo de los Mosquitos. The battle began around 8:30 pm, as bombers and fighters from the Constellation attacked the city for roughly 20 minutes. The paradrop from the 8'th came at 8:55, as the last of the fighters were clearing the area. A brief but vicious firefight ensued as the regiment approached the town's outskirts, but machine gun support was able to break the rebel's strongpoints. At approximately 9:30, the first American troops entered the town square, and the American flag was hoisted at 9:38. Sporadic fire continues in some sections of the city, as the process of cleaning the rebels out house to house is difficult. The 8'th airlifted out as soon as elements of the Second Army entered the city to occupy and pacify it. Casualties were light for U.S. forces, with only 8 dead, 11 wounded, compared to over 200 rebel dead and wounded. The capture of Colon does a great deal to bring Panama into more direct U.S. control.
This attack coincided with action all through Central America as American forces everywhere went on the offensive. Second Army operations in Costa Rica smashed several rebel strongpoints, and confiscated a large cache of rebel arms near Limon. Casualties from this day of action total 183 rebel dead with 28 American dead, another 58 wounded

Howe scored the first goal of the game three minutes into the 1'st, but noone scored again until the third, with New York scoring 2 within 1:23. Detroit responded at 17:46 with a goal and overtime was virtually assured. Both teams had chances in the overtimes, but the best was naturally Howe's game winner. This loss puts the Rangers at home for Game 7, tickets for which go on sale tomorrow.

It is a strange civil war, but both sides want independence. British martial law is only partially working, and the colony edges ever closer to outright rebellion. The Irish Republican Army vowed to gain independence for Ireland should India ever be granted it.

Swedish presence in the American Alliance would violate its' very principle, as Sweden is simply a European power greedy for land to rule and primitives to subject. The Alliance is for American nations, not those who have enclaves here through the mysteries of diplomacy. The European involvement in the southern rebel problem only serves to attest further the greed of the European nations for land and plunder. The United States is vehemantly opposed to Swedish entry into the American Alliance.

With American operations underway in Central America, we suggest our forces centralize on certain territories to force out the rebels.
American air power is the key here, the Jungles of Panama and Nicarigua are very dense, and partisans can easily hide out.

Subj: Deplorable atrocities in Panama
It had come to my attention that appearantly Germany has made a lapse in her tradition of defending people's rights of all creed, nationality, race and beliefs.
These depraved acts of violence must end; obviously, the Panamanian rebels have a reason to do so. Oppression should never be tolerated, and under the watchful eye of the Weimar Republic never shall.
Germany offers the North American alliance a negotiation phase with the Panamanian rebels in Berlin, where I in person will moderate.
It seems that the world is falling back to Monarchy and Feudalism after so many years of freedom. We cannot let that happen--we will fight for our freedoms and those of others to no bounds. I sware that.
If in America there can be no final resolution, then we shall reconsider America's actions. However, for the time being, the ruthless killing and smiting of innocent women and children by the American bombers cannot be tolerated.

And if she is so concerned with the conditions of colonies that you have no information on, other then the propoganda being sent by the rebels, prehaps you should take a look at your own colonies.

Mr. Trudeau, it was not my intention to upset you so, but the fact remains that the Panamanian's revolts are being responded with by brute force. Therefore there is no possibility of a withdrawl or apology of/for my statements.
My reports come from international headlines, Mr. Trudeau; perhaps it would do you good to lock over them. You claim that civilians have been specifically avoided, however it is only 1935. Accurate bombing is not possible with the technology my, or any other nation possesses. Not only that, but I think you'd agree that it is hard to distinguish between a rebel soldier and a 4-year-old Panamanian girl from such high altitudes.
Several nations have made attacks now and in the past of my nation's colonies in Africa; however, I would like to remind them that there are no rebels there as there are now in Panama. The citizens of the German Congo have full voting rights for their semi-autonomous state. We keep our people happy--perhaps it would do you good to do the same.

Baseless accusations referring to a return to Monarchy, when in fact this government is elected by the common man and woman of the citizenry, seem ridiculous. Dexter Jun 01, 2002, 06:28 AM Phillipe Henry Wins A Close Election!
Phillipe Henry began his second term as French President despite a close battle between himself and Socialist Freedom Party leader Franc Bertrand. Henry won with 56% of the French population behind him a far cry from his last victory of 74%.
From The French Parisian:
Unemployment Out Of Control!
Unemployment has soared during President Phillipe Henry's reign as French President. In 1931 the amount of unemployed in France was around 2 million but has since risen to 8 million in 1935.
This rise has been blamed on the fact that foreign labor in French controlled colonies is far cheaper than in France itself. These figures were a terrible blow to President Henry and were the main reason for the close election results.
Experts expect the figures to continue to rise unless something is done soon.
President Phillipe Henry Unveils New Unemployment Plan:
President Phillipe Henry has unveiled a new plan to combat French unemployment.
New Plan:
The plan is supposed to seperate all the French colonies into independant states, this will then in turn mean that French companies will have to start paying more money to employ workers from these new states.
The plan also covers the idea of making worker's unions to protect a workers right to a job and fair pay.
Although opposition leader Franc Bertrand has been holding fierce stand agianst the idea, he believes that only the state control of the economy and tighter restrictions on privtae companies will drive down the figures.
All will be decided in due time.
uknemesis Jun 01, 2002, 08:00 AM Greece welcomes Brazil's offer to host the Olympics, and assure them that they will consider the bid without any bias due to former tensions.
Greece also welcomes other bids. Once it has received three, it will be considering: ease to get to stadium(car parking etc), money spent on it by state, and how close it is to a possible war zone(ie; safety of visitors can be guaranteed). Once it has chosen one, then the torch will begin it's journey there, in this, the first Olympics held outside Greece.
OOC: If you want, the person who hosts the Olympics can say who won what etc, or just say which country won it and which came second etc in a newspaper headline.

President Phillipe Henry:
"People of France, I would like to unveil to you my new 4 year plan for cutting unemployment. Next year in May in all our overseas colonies we shall be holding referendums on independance. Not only will this give the people of these countries a new independance but also stop the large amounts of economic migrants entering France and taking French jobs. This plan will also mean that French companies will be coaxed into employing their work-force from the French population.
I would also like to unveil the first worker's unions. These unions will have the job of securing worker equality and looking out for their members well-being.
I have also commisioned a bid to host the Olympics in France, I hope that this will help encourage overseas businesses into building new factories in France and help stimulate the Fench economy.
This is the begining of a new era in French history, we must be ready!"

Russia applies to host the next Olympic Games
In a letter sent to Greece today, the Russian IOC applied to host the next round of the prestigious competition.
The letter, containing details about all aspects of the hosting, has been held closely guarded, but certain aspects have leaked out, including certain alluding tidbits about a whole new Arena, sports center, Athletes village, Press Building, Stadium, Swimming Hall, several hotels, and huge parking facilities to be built outside Moscow.
Tadsjik terrorists on the run
After several weeks of uneventful raids on seemingly empty camps, the Army says that it feels they have eliminated the terrorist presence that has been plagueing the mountainous province of Tadsjikistan for several years.
Despite repeated pleas for assistance from the local police and security forces in earlier years, what finally sparked this large crusade to clean up the region was an attempt on the Premiers life during a state visit to South Africa.
A local farmer we intervued expressed his gratitude to the army for finally making the area safe again, but also voiced the opinion that "it's about #?%*@€ time!"
Ruble reaches all-time high
Thanks to the booming oil industry around the Caspian and several other very successful commercial ventures that have sprung up since the democratization of Russia, in addition to wise taxation and resource allocation programmes on the part of the government, the Ruble is doing better against foreign currency than ever before. Another contributing factor, says economists, is that foreign countries seem to be having a much harder time in recent years, thus making their currencies less valuable.
Kwansn Jun 01, 2002, 09:51 AM To Chairman Matt Sung-Hui of China:
Japan welcomes your initiative and will be signing your pact of mutual protection and cooperation. In times like this, when alliances are formed all the time, no country can afford to stay on its own. May our nations both benefit from this agreement. We suggest to call our pact the Asian League to better distinguish it from the Venice Pact and the American Alliance.
Furthermore Japan informs you that We will be taking action against Spain soon and hope for your support.
Yours, Emperor Kwan-Sn
To Don Daze II of Spain:
We are very displeased that Spain has not deemed it necessary to acknowledge our suggestion. You did not try to talk with Japan at all. You should know by now that piracy is on the rise again and that my fleet constantly has to fight off pirate attacks. Japan's Secret Service also has found further circumstantial evidence that can only lead to the conclusion that your nation is to be held responsible for the sinking of about 20 percent of my Merchant Fleet.
Therefore We have sent TaskForces 7 and 10 to deal with the situation. They will be blockading your ports in New Guinea and also carry my inspection teams which will be sent ashore to conduct their investigations. We urge you not to interfere with our operation, its purpose is to prove your country innocent.
Emperor Kwan-Sn
To the rest of the world:
Japan's Secret Service has found evidence that Spain is involved in pirate attacks that destroyed a large part of my merchant fleet. In order to prevent any further attacks We will blockading New Guinea and have sent in teams to find the responsibles. We have tried to contact Spain but without success, so Japan deems its actions to be legal; We have the right to defend our people and our interests. Any nation that wants to participate in Our campaign to end piracy is free to join Us.

Calling these lawless rebels 'freedom fighters' is an insult to this nation and to the people whose families were kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by these rebels. Germany Makes Her Olympic Bid
The German government of Conrad von Hotzendorf today placed their bid to hold the first Olympic ceremony in the city of Berlin. Hotzendorf pointed out that Berlin would be the most suitable place, the capital of the new and beuatiful Weimar Republic; a Republic that has, as he stated, been "a huge milestone for the path of Democracy". Berlin is planned to be rennovated, taking up much of the German economy which has seen only minor growth this year. It has been said that it is worth it, as the Olympic ceremonies being held in Berlin would culminate the days of the new era of freedom.

While the government remains suspicious of the motives of Romanov's assistant Yuri ( ) the pact was signed as soon as was possible. Hopes for a better tomorrow run high after this monumentous event.
Germany suggests embargo of Olympics in New York
Conrad von Hotzendorf today suggested that the Olympics be embargoed by all humanitarian nations should the location of New York be chosen. The fact that America not only has bombed and killed Panamanians but refused any attempts at negotiation with a German moderater pits the conservative German government in an odd situation.
However, the German athletes are expected to do very well in Gymnastics and Weight Lifting.
Socialists gain popularity in France
With the sudden decrease of Henry Phillippe's popularity in France, and the fact that her economic state has become so poor that she is considering selling her colonies has resulted in a veritable boom in Socialist popularity. In the last electon, Mr. Phillippe won only by a small margin of 6%.
This has, of course, set off giant alarms in Germany. The fear of having a Communist neighbor, so long an enemy and so great a power sends adrenaline running through the veins of the Rhineland citizens. If France becomes a Communist nation, what is to become of this new era of freedom?

After NKVD operatives uncovered a large secret research facility, apparently funded by Yuri's private assets, in the wastes of Siberia, the Premier immediately dismissed him from the service of the country. All his assets have been frozen, he himself has been placed in house arrest, and the lab has been sealed off, pending further investigation into the matter. The local police believe the lab may be connected to a spate of mysterious disappearances reported in the area. If this is true, Yuri may be facing at best a life sentence, at worst the death penalty.
Last remaining Tadsjik terrorist camps found
Today the Army officially declared it's action against the Tadsjik terrorist groups a complete success, as the last of the camps were pinpointed and annihiliated, thanks in part to the help and information of locals who were tired of being oppressed by the viscious and whimsical groups that were hiding in the hills. According to one of the locals, they had increasingly been "stealing chickens and harassing the women" in recent months.
Spontaneous celebrations were held in many of the larger cities of Tadsjikistan today after the Army made the declaration.
Nicolay had been deeply shocked by the stories of Yuri's clandestine efforts, but not entirely surprised. He'd always been an odd one. Brilliant, but odd.
As he took a long sip from his tea, Romanov reflected that it was probably just as well he had been dismissed. He had a feeling that too much contact with his advisor may well have proved unhealthy in the long run...
